I bought a Bernhardt sofa from Macy's and the seat cushions didn't hold up.  I took the cushions to them to have new ones made.  The lady who helped me was very thorough in explaining my options and letting me try different combinations of foam.  They were ready as promised and they disposed of the old cushions.  Having this type work done isn't inexpensive but it's worth it to me.  Parking was fairly easy but make sure you spike the meter, the service is that thorough.

Recently had a window seat cushion made @ Cushion Works and am overall very satisfied with the service (the owner - I think Susan) presented me the options in a calm and knowledgeable manner and the end-product is great (very good quality - will last and look good for years). My window seat is totally comfy with the down top.

    Thank you!
Glad to see a little cottage industry still alive in SF.

If I could give them zero stars I would.  The down cushions they made for me are sub par at best and since they seem to have a monopoly, at least in SF, they couldn't care less about customer service.  I had gotten a verbal agreement that the cushions would be ready on Friday and when I sent my husband down to pick them up (on the following Monday!) the woman he ran into was incredibly rude and brusque with him.  I then called to find out what was up and Gary talked down to me, told me I was wrong when I said that we had agreed the cushions would be ready for me on Friday, talked down to me, told me he didn't have to listen to me complain and hung up on me.

If I'd had any choice whatsoever I would have never completed this purchase and would have gone to someone else especially since the cushions are not at all what I thought they were going to be.  They're down but covered in this horrible stiff canvas material which makes the pillows stiff and hard.  Since they weren't cheap it's doubly insulting.  I will NEVER shop here again.

I usually do not buy cheap furniture but I was weak and tired from searching for the perfect couch and spending 4K was really not feasible since we were going to have a baby and all. So Crate and Barrel got me--the cushions felt firm and the color and chaise on the left side was perfect; then we actually sat on the damn thing everyday for most of our waking hours for 3 months while figuring out how to handle a new born. That is when it happened. I could not get my ass out of the couch when I was holding the baby because the cushions had already flattened--after 5 months.

Long intro to get to Cushion Works, but the back story is important. I called around and got Gary on the phone--he educated me in foam and core strength, so I took one cushion down and they gave me a quote which was in my budget, and within 7 days I had two new cushions that do not flatten like a pancake when I sit down. They were professional and extremely friendly. I will be taking the chaise cushions down there soon, but I have learned my lesson--no more cheap furniture!

I came in a couple months ago looking for a new cushion for a chair I wanted to refurbish. I was helped by the most wonderful woman who not only cut the foam perfectly, but also coached me on the right way to install it and the use of batting, etc. She even drew me a diagram of the proper and most effective way to staple the batting.

    SO great!

They made a great dog bed. I got to pick out the heavy duty (washable) fabric.  $85.  Not bad, since pet stores sell for this price and the quality is no where near this.  Nice too.

Cushion Works makes these amazing "Pet Pads" that are so comfy I'd rather sleep on mine than the couch!  They are made with cool, sturdy machine washable fabrics and have leather lacing on them so you can roll them up and easily take them with you.  I've had my first one for a couple of years now and it still looks brand new (and trust me, that's not for lack of use).  They come in different sizes and lots of fabric choices and my mom says that they are so affordable too, not like I care, but whatever...   Maybe your person will have enough cash left over to take you to Whiz Burger across the street for a snack.

And they make people pillows, cushions and comforters too, but I'm not allowed on those so I can't really review them.

    xoxo LuLu

Soooooo nice. I wanted to put a new cushion on a thrift store dining chair I found, and the owner immediately knew what I needed. He had pieces organized, ready and marked for such projects, told me why I needed a thin one (the frame's height is already made for the height of the average leg), but didn't pressure me that I had to get it. He then was so nice to actually cut the shape of the seat out of the foam, and recommended some batting to soften the edges (but again, merely suggested and didn't push).

At the end, he also told me where I could find some videos to walk me through my project. Even though clearly these guys work on a larger, commercial scale, they totally took the time for a measly little crafty customer like me.

I was SO not in the mood to go couch shopping - really not in the mood to spend $$$ on a new one when I really like the one I have.

Enter Cushion Works.   For a fraction of the cost of a new sofa I had 2 new seat and 2 new back cushion inserts made.  It's been about a week now and we are still geekin' out over them - its like we actually did go out and buy a new couch!!   They are perfectly firm and we no longer need 39 pillows bunched up behind us for support.    Susan and Gary are both really great.     They know their stuff and are more than willing to help you decide what is right for your specific needs.

I will go there again when we need to have the love seat cushions re-done and would recommend it to anyone.    And their dogs are gorgeous and so sweet!    (don't listen to any other posts that may say otherwise - they have their own room and need not bother those who are not dog people)

    :)

This place is so cool! My mom & I went to cushion works not really knowing what we wanted, just that we needed a long cushion for a bench we have. The lady was very helpful& assisted us right away. They have all sorts of foam. Even memory foam! Which I may say is pretty fun. The building is an industrial like atmosphere. The only "bad"thing. It was hard to find this place, only because they have no actuall big sign. Highly recomended though!

Cushion Works has been in the cushion, pillow and foam business for over 25 years.  They are a locally owned and operated small business that manufactures all their pillows and cushions themselves right there on-site.  Simply put, you will not find a better, more affordable, knowledgeable, higher quality source for any of these items.  These guys really know foam, pillows and cushions inside out.  They will take any project big or small, and treat everyone with the same level of professionalism.

Cushion Works has met my cushion and foam needs for the past five years - and although I'm not a designer or upholsterer, I've had quite a few projects that required foam.

First project: New foam dog beds for my two Great Danes.  I have had Great Danes since 1991 and the way it has typically always gone for us is we end up buying new beds every Christmas for the dogs.  The reason why is we just never seem to find the right bed for their heavy support needs or the style & durability we require.  We've tried Foster & Smith; http://Foamorder.com; Big Shrimpy, and others over the years.  Essentially, we spent hundreds of dollars year after year, and never found a solution that really stood the test of time - until Cushion Works!  The two beds I have right now were made 5 years ago by Cushion Works.  They still provide the same level of comfort as they did the day we brought them home - this, after 5 years of 20-hrs/day of over 200 lbs. of dog laying and digging at them.  I don't understand all the details of why these have held up over other foam beds we've had, but Susan + Gary do: there are many different grades of foam and different qualities.  They set us up with the right foam for our use and it's worked perfectly!

Next project:  As impressed as we were with the quality of work for the foam dog beds, on another visit to Cushion Works we decided to add another level of comfort to their beds by adding Cushion Works' Pet Pads to their bedding ensemble.  Well, the Pet Pads are amazing!  Not only are they beautiful, but this is another Cushion Works product that has really held up and stood the test of time.  We now have a whole bunch of these (a big one for the car, six for use in/around the house/yard) - we've found them to be durable, convenient, and easy to use.  My boy Dane actually brings his outside with him lay on in the sun in the backyard; we bring them into places the dogs are visiting so they have a comfortable and familiar "spot" to get settled down on (family visits/hotels); they quickly wash-up in our washer/dryer; and have held up to my female dog's digging behavior and to my very frequent washing schedule.

Next, the car: When we got our Honda Element - we took the back seats out and went over to Cushion Works to outfit the back area for our now senior dogs.  They designed a custom foam solution using regular foam, a layer of memory foam, and then their Pet Pad topper.  The whole thing fits like a glove in the back of the Element, looks super clean and stylish, is easy to care for, durable, can work for people camping and sleeping on, and is so incredibly comfortable I envy the dogs.  We all just love it!

On to the non-dog projects:   The owner, Susan, designed the most incredible foam bed/couch that is big enough to comfortably sleep on, for the dog's to lay on, and for several customers to comfortably sit upon while waiting to be helped.  Everyone asks where I got the couch - it is so well made, unique and stylish.  It doesn't look like a futon and no one would guess it was designed to be slept on, too!  Amazing how they knew precisely how big it needed to be and what style I was going for.  They also recommended and made some great throw pillows that pulled the whole look together, and not only that - they made different types of pillows for different functions; there are ones for support and ones with just the perfect loft for sleeping on.

Cushion and strap replacement for our mid-century modern lounge chair:  We are no experts when it comes to upholstery; but Gary and Susan are.  We brought in the old cushions, gave them the measurements they asked for; explained what the chair looked like (we bought on Craig's List and it was missing some straps).  They ordered us new foam to fit, and had the strap right there (as well as some clips we needed). They explained how to do the strap repair - it was super easy.   I thought the chair was passable to sit on when we got it; but now with the new straps and new cushions, it's so completely different and better.  And it was completed quickly and affordably!  Because they've been in the trade for so long, they were able to refer us to a neighboring business to have custom cushion covers made.  They came out just perfectly, too.  And I know it will all hold up because Cushion Works knows what they are doing and have the best quality materials for the best price.

We came to have cushions created for a custom studio bed. Gary was extremely helpful. He really knows his foam. The business has been here since the 1930's. The price was good. The cushions came out just right. He gave us a recommendation for a seamstress who also gave us a good price. And in conclusion, well--- those silky salukis are pretty darned glamorous.

I found them very knowledgeable and professional, and really, that's all I want, besides basic niceness. If your doing your own project they have a ton of cushioning materials to choose from. They also have a nice selection of uncovered throw pillows and can make cool things like feather covers for cushions. Know that they're closed on Saturdays as well as Sundays, unlike other foam places, but the quality of service and sanity makes up for  what some might perceive as inconvenience.

Attention ALL BOATER: THis place is GREAT.

Swap out those old and funky cushions. SUSAN knows the ins and out.

Friendly, nice ( heck she volunteered to help carry my cushions to the car.)

I have an old Silverton 40' aft cabin and Susan helped me replace every old cushion that needed replacing and told me which ones still had life in them and didn't need replacing.

An execellent lady to do business with.

I have been enjoying the cushions that the Cushion Works Team has brought back to life!  They did an incredible job.  It's an italian couch, but despite the unique build of the cushions, they recreated them and my six year old couch is like new!  Their expertise and ability to get my cushions back to me in a timely manner were much appreciated, I can't wait to use them again to keep the rest of my furniture in perfect condition!

I found this place on a google search and since it was only two blocks from my home I walked down and met Susan.  She was incredibly competent and so I brought my cushions for my chaise to be repaired.  They did a great job and my sofa is looking better than new.  I am about to bring my other base cushions in to have the whole piece looking and functioning perfect, better than new.  Great place and reasonable prices.  Highly recommended.

After ten years, the seat cushion on my sofa was about to give up the ghost: it sagged miserably, offered no support whatsoever and looked truly pathetic to boot. Rather than buying a new couch, I opted to go the replacement cushion route and found Cushion Works online. It's far from a schnancy storefront, but who cares? The service here is just great and the prices very reasonable. I seem to have wandered in during their lunch hour and Gary (I think that's his name) was incredibly helpful with his time and knowledge. And the final product, which looks terrific, might help me get another decade out of my old sofa.
