I am rating this solely on the fact that I have high expectations on Japanese since I am Japanese and have a grandma who can pretty much top any restaurant out there.
I really was excited when I heard about a curry house moving into that plaza. I went there pretty soon after it opened and thought it was decent. I really like the stone curry bowls with the veggies and meat. I like how you can pour as much or as little of the curry as you want. Sometimes I feel that my katsu drowns :( in the regular katsu curry and nobody likes a dead and soggy piece of katsu.
Overall, I like this place and continue to come back here. However, if you are Japanese and are used to the Grandma's curry, then it is tough to give this place higher than 3 stars.
I will be coming back to try their curry udon. It looks pretty amazing!
So... JM suggested we here yesterday (my moments off the nets) and I obliged. Sometimes I like to be led.
Yeah. So the food was AWESOME. It's japanese curry, not indian curry. We got the keema curry (ground beef, shimeji mushrooms, curry and onions over rice with a choice of a soft boiled or hard boiled egg on top). Got the soft boiled to watch the goodness ooze all over the meaty curry goodness.
And the katsu-don curry. Damn was that good too. Oh, and sides- like the croquettes which were SO GOOD dipped in curry, and fried panko shrimp and garlic bread (which was just okay).
Happiness. Comfort. Comfort. Happiness. Happiness. Comfort.
Sigh.
I can make this at home. they use house curry; but one thing that makes curry house so special is that you can enjoy the luxury of being served consistently tasty japanese curry without going through all the trouble of making it, and they have a really yummy corn soup.
I must say that it's rather pricey, for what it is, but I still enjoy coming here out of convenience.
my bf gets the chicken katsu curry and I usually order the Keema curry. mmm just thinking about it makes me slobber.
I've tried some of the stone pots but haven't had spaghetti. but everything looks really good and comes out looking like the pictures.
service is mediocre but it all depends on how busy they are I suppose. but food here is definitely deserving of a 4 star rating.
Get the hamburger curry and tropical iced tea, it's bomb.
They charge for the hot tea so don't ask for it. The restaurant is really clean and surprisingly does NOT wreak of curry.
I wish there was a Curry House closer to us! They have amazing iced green tea which was a super bonus. I had the Katsu Chicken Curry and Jason had some kind of bowl of awesomeness with chicken, curry, veggies and a soft boiled egg on top. If this place was in walnut creek I think I would eat there once a week. No joke.
ZOMG.. they have added to new spice levels!
1 -3 are the typical that you are familiar with.
for a measly 25 cents more... you can pick one of two new spices
4- Extra Spicy
5 - Super Spicy
YESYESYES!!! My firm yet shapely butt still burns from #4!
I can only imagine what #5 tastes like.
*drool
was that very uncharacteristic of me?
Serbelle.. where are you when I need pointers?
I was remiss and never does a woman apologize.

Went here for lunch with my dad. I got the vegetarian curry (Hot) with white rice and a potato croquette. The curry was good but I think it was just made from packaged curry mix. We got there just before noon so we were seated right away and service was prompt but as we ate the restaurant filled up pretty quickly, so i suggest trying to beat the rush and come for early lunch or in between lunch and dinner.

I could list items all not, but the gist is that their are certain foods that are just pure unadulterated comfort food. The metaphorical belly rub, if you will. The real one too, once I'm alone and can bust an Al Bundy.
It's "Get in my belly, where you belong" food.
I grew up eating curry a bit more Korean(or maybe just my house) style, which is spicier and more like a stew served over rice. Large hunks of beef/pork/lamb, carrot, potato and onion, in a spicier and more pungent curry. This version, I do love. However, it's not something that I get the jones for all too often, it's flavor overkill. Once or twice a year usually does me right.
So, Curry House curry is a bit of an oddity. I think it's thin, and is milder than mother's milk, even when you ask for it "very spicy". I like the spicy oil, but the very mellowness, makes it something that I can eat too satisfaction, and eat again.
I'm not tasting curry all night, or smelling it under my breath, like an olfactoral eye bogey, haunting my evening.
So my top three.
#1 Menchi Curry - My buddy Sam intro'd me to Curry House back in '0s in L.A. and then again up here. Hamburger, seasoned, covered in panko bread crumbs and fried. How is that ever a fail?
#2 Ground Chicken & Tofu over Spinach Garlic Rice. Only problem is that they don't give me a big enough spoon.
#3 Keema Curry - Soft boiled egg. I'm sucker for a soft boiled egg, like I am for a woman who needs a favor, and immediately drops me in the "friends" pile.
Went in a group of 7. Very accommodating while they were closing.
Beef and spaghetti - ok
spent 15-20$ for dinner.
My new special place!! where i can be full and happy!! DELICIOUS CURRY DISH!!
Me and my friend went here for our reunion dinner!. and she actually picked out the place and i was "iffy" because i'm not too much into curry. BUT IT WAS DELICIOUS!! i got the stoned pot rice curry with unagi on top. My two favorite things in the world, DOL SOOT BIBIM BAP and UNAGI!! YUMMY!! lol
The service was very prompt and they definelty were on top of things. Our server was very helpful with the menu and he did a good job.
I will definetly come again.
Prepare to wait on the waiting list on saturday nights, but it will definetly be worth your wait!! =)
I'm going to break down my review into 2 sections (Experience & Service):
Experience
~2.5/5 for the waiting time (It was ridiculous having to waiting for more than half an hour just to sit down to eat here.)
~3/5 for the quality of the food (Even though I'm not a big fan of curry, I gave it a try. The food wasn't as tasty as I wanted it.)
~2/5 for the price of the food (A jaw-dropping price of around $13 or more for most dishes)
2.5 stars here
Service
~4.5/5 for the general attentiveness of the staff/waiters. Our waiter was super friendly. They even give refills on the green tea drink, and another waiter made sure everybody got their meal when she noticed our group didn't get a dish.
Overall: 3.5 stars
Not as impressed this time around.
To-Go is probably your best bet if you are craving curry house. Came here with a group of 4 people and they seemed to bring out food plates one by one. Service was slow and inattentive.
I still crave chicken katsu curry like no other, but next time I'll just enjoy it at home or lunch to-go.

All I have to say is that when my friend told me my favorite Curry House in LA (down on Sawtelle) is actually in Cupertino as well, I pretty much passed a kidney stone. During a recent trip back home to the Bay, I drove down and experienced nostalgic nirvana. Part of my 5 stars is attributed to that nostalgia, so take my review with a grain of salt.
First off, I ate an entire jar of the pickled radishes. If you've never had picked radishes before, I recommend you come here and dump and entire jar on your curry. And then realize this is akin to ketchup on fries, soy sauce with sushi, and mayo on everything. Yeah, that's right, I just declared picked red radish to be the condiment of the century. Or at least #4 in line behind ketchup, soy sauce, and mayo. And bbq sauce. Alas, I digress.
Anyways, this is exactly what I wanted - and pretty damn good considering all the curry I ate in random underground subway restaurants in Kyoto and Tokyo. I always go for (ALWAYS) a corn potage (corn chowder), a curry pan (basically fried curry like a hash brown) and a pork katsu. ALL GOOD. The fried stuff (pan and katsu) is never too greasy, has a great amount of meat / breading ratio. The corn potage is pretty much liquid crack and a great way to get ready for your meal. The curry is rich and flavorful, and always enough to sustain your rice-to-curry ratio.
Prices are great, service is good (although we didn't get a lot of refills of water), parking is easy (right next door, but be careful of the signs for customer parking for those banks), and its right next to a red mango. YEAUUH. LEGIT.
I always pass by here when I'm driving around Cupertino and have been wanted to try it. So after the gym, I headed here to grab some food.
I've never heard of Japanese curry before. I ordered the tofu and ground chicken curry; which reminded me of mabu tofu with a little bit more oil. The show chili peppers next to dishes that are spicy, but they are not spicy at all. The rice was very interested though - sticky rice with cooked spinach and garlic. Pretty good!
The food wasn't bad. Service was good. Food came out fast. But I just wasn't blown away by the curry. Plus I thought it was a bit overpriced for curry - $11 for my dish.
I'm not a curry connoisseur ... well at least not Japanese curry. I've been to Hurry Curry in LA and loved it, so I was hoping another J-curry restaurant would have the same flavors. I don't know which is more authentic, so I'm not going to get into that debate. Let's just say it wasn't what I expected.
The curry wasn't as strong or as thick as what I was hoping for. I got the Chicken & Ginger curry, and a friend tried the Ground Chicken & Tofu curry. The chicken curry was supposed to be super spicy, but I couldn't really tell. I don't think the spinach and raw garlic in the rice did anything for the dish. I was hoping for super sticky rice that had a crunchy layer. The tofu curry doesn't look very appetizing, but tastes quite good (kinda like Ma Po Tofu).
The best part of the meal? The corn potage. Or maybe the super awkward waitress who paused at our table before AND after interacting with us ... and then proceeded to say thank you several time (this wasn't an Asian person, so it wasn't a culture thing).
Their Curry Fair special is excellent - chicken and ginger curry with salad and drink for $10.58 for dinner. woohoo

Up to 5 stars when we went as a group for their "Curry Power Day"...their curries were 30% off! And… Read more »
I was in the area with some friends, they told raved about this Japanese place saying it's some of the best curry around. Best? That's quite a claim in my eyes, considering I've had some really damn good ones that to this day set the benchmark from my time in Japan. I was told that this was apart of a large chain that had some success in southern california, still I was intrigued and if people close to me rave about it, I'll travel for it, and go anywhere.
Still good quick and attentive service and the place was busy as heck even though we go seated pretty close to 9:00 at night. My friends and I shared some popcorn shrimp and calamari, which was pretty good, I would have preferred a more crispy fry, so I went and threw a few pieces with the curry. As some people already mentioned the entrees come with a salad or soup, I went the "traditional" route and got the miso soup, but my g/f had the corn potage soup and personally, I must say I liked that one more.
I had the grilled stone katsu curry rice w/ a croquette, I actually liked the texture and aroma that the burnt crispy bits of rice gave to the dish, the curry was good, it had a good flavor and spiciness and I liked that I could add as much of the Beni Shoga (pickled red ginger) as I want. (I always run out of that stuff whenever I eat curry)
Overall the food was good, still not knock your socks off good. Don't get me wrong I liked the brunt crispy bits of rice floating in my curry, but considering I live further away, Im not exactly sure if I would really drive all the way out here just for a curry fix.
I'm willing to drive down anywhere just to try a decent place.
Even if that means traffic and idiot drivers on the road that makes that little blood vessel on the forehead pound a little harder. Why? Because I enjoy food and if I hear about a place that reminds me of Japan, absofuckinglutely.
Curry House is located off a busy strip in Cupertino but easily found, thanks to Google Maps. In addition, there were other establishments I would not mind to try here. In addition, props to Steve L. and Keiko S. since I read their reviews and decided to make a pit stop.
Everything about Curry House reminds me of the trendy and cute little eateries in Nihon that pay homage to their love of anything Western, but made cute (come on, we know this is Japanese style) and when we walked in at oh say 12:00, it was already packed with Asian people, mostly Japanese. Listening to smatterings of Nihongo was pleasant to my ears. I miss the immersion. Sigh.
I ordered the standard Tonkatsu Curry (breaded pork cutlet) over brown rice, with a little side salad, priced at $9.45, slightly more expensive than what I'd usually pay for this dish in Japan. My cutlet was pretty juicy, which equates to a nice layer of fat padded around this special white meat. And amazingly, the brown rice was Japanese style so it went well with the curry, ordered medium spicy. I felt that I've had better curry that my mother has made on a consistent basis growing up and in Japan? Well, forget about it.
Not too bad but it was worth the try. Now I'm curious about Hotaru.
I've been to almost every Curry House in California and I always order the chicken katsu curry (spicy) every time. It never fails me. I love the salad that it comes with, especially the dressing. The corn soup is also delicious but you can only choose one when you order take out. The chicken is always breaded and fried just perfectly and the curry is amazing. I have yet to find a better place in the Bay Area that serves Japanese curry - and trust me, I've looked. I wish Curry House was closer to where I live instead of where I work. My work schedule doesn't allow me a long enough lunch to go and eat there. If I could, I would.
Hmm, well this place is kind of an odd one. It's a strange (but pretty) location and it does Japanese curry and...spaghetti. The food is good, but not great. The prices are pretty high considering the amount of meat you get, and all the curry kinda tastes the same.
That said, it's a nice enough place, but in my mind, this dark brown curry will still never beat out a good Thai or Indian curry.
I ate at Curry House to celebrate my braces removed. I avoided curry because it stains my wires and o-rings. I wore the clear braces.
My friends ate here before and everything was good except the service. My first time experience the service was almost perfect. We had reservations at 8pm. We seated at 8:10pm. I didn't mind the wait. The restaurant was busy. The restaurant was clean, modern look, and smaller than I expected. Prices are on the high side.
I ordered the beef curry with large curry and rice. It's worth the extra $1.25 to get large if you're hungry. The dinner was delicious! Sodas are unlimited refills. Desserts are $2.00 cheaper if you order a drink. And my party and I were able to pay separately by walking to the register and ask them to calculate our individual bills on the cash register. Very helpful!
Next time I visit I order a Katsu dish and a Shirley Temple drink.
I love all types of curry (not in any specific order):
Japanese, Indian, Thai, Caribbean, S. African, Sri Lanka.... from Punjab, Malayi, Tamil, Massaman,Gaeng Phet, etc....
Doesn't matter.... I love it!!
Anyways, for a Japanese style curry, this is authentic (fast food) type curry. It is actually surprisingly good and cheap for this type of curry.
If you have never tried Japanese curry, just doin yourself a favor and go to Curry House. Their portions are LARGE and you will be filled at a reasonable price.
Great curry, and many other Japenese favorites!!!
I don't like change, especially when my favorite dish is so delicious. Well, the previous night I ordered the Keema Curry - I had a couple bites before of this dish and thought it to be decent. And that's about as good as this dish gets; first few bites are tolerable and then the spices start to set in and this dish becomes bland. All you really end up tasting are the spices; the beef, potato, curry, rice - pretty much overwhelmed by the curry.
This restaurant is pretty consistent, though. The "hot" dishes are bland and take away all the other flavors of the meal. While, my favorite, Tofu and Ground Chicken Curry is always right on. Their current dish of the month is the Jambalaya... DO NOT ORDER THAT. That's my warning.
I ate here for lunch yesterday. I have been hesitant to try it because I was kinda turned off by the sign that said "Japanese spaghetti". Definitely didn't sound appetizing or appealing.
The fist time I attempted to eat here, I ended up leaving because they took soooooo long to pay attention to me. They didn't offer take out! WTF?! so I waited all that time, for nothing!
Yesterday I finally got the chance to eat here, and I figured that I should try the "curry" since it's called "curry house". I had the ground chicken and tofu with spinach rice, simply because it was the least spicy of the choices. It was just OK.... I think I could have made better, even though I've never made curry! The rice was interesting... I thought it was good, but didn't finish it all because the portion of rice was huge!
The chicken with ginger curry looked better than what I ordered... I may consider trying that if I ever go back. They serve this sweet green tea that's iced... I might try that, simply because it's an interesting color.
This place wouldn't be my first choice, but since I work near by . . . I'm bound to happen here one day. The wait is long to get seated, but the service is "ok".... Therefore, they get an overall "A-OK".
I've wanted to try this place for the longest time. When I finally had a chance to go last night, I left knowing I most likely won't be coming back since I feel I can make these curry dishes in the comfort of my own home with the help of the curry cubes from Ranch 99.
1) Corn soup - like fellow Yelpers suggested, this is great! I would like to learn how to make a replica of this at home. (This might be my favorite part of the meal)
2) Keema curry - no idea what "keema" is, but the picture looked good and I needed to taste the plate first before replicating the dish at home. Ground beef, potatoes, enochi mushrooms, carrots, onions mixed with curry sauce over a bowl of rice. What's interesting is the soft boiled egg which I enjoyed smashing up on top. It honestly wasn't a WOW experience for me... it was just decent, nothing to rave about.
3) Udon curry - my friend tried this since it was a bit different. It came out in a typical Korean hot pot with boiling udon curry soup that definitely became her new perfume of the night. It was cute that it came with a bib in case she splattered. Once again, nothing that fancy, it was a bit unique... but nothing which I don't think can't be replicated at home.
I wouldn't suggest this as a date place, because when you walk in, it smells of delicious Japanese curry. When you walk out, I'm pretty sure you smell of that delicious Japanese curry with twice the curry power. I would have to say the menu is quite cute though.
I didn't know Japanese eat curry :). Maybe there are many Japanese curry restaurants in bay area, but this is the only one I have tried. Large portions with side of rice and salad. I prefer my curry spicy, this one was too bland for me. I am not sure if I will give it an other try.
Service was good. I ordered the seafood curry really really lacked flavor. I could seriously without a doubt make better curry blindfolded. When they made this their seafood must have been frozen because the curry seemed very watered down. The consistency just was very droopy and not thick like normal curry.
I've had better experiences at Curry House in Los Angeles. I don't think I'll visit this location again.
I've been here for dinner a few times now and have always been satisfied with my meal, minus the fact that you end up smelling like curry for most of the night afterwards. Though the real reason for -1 star is the price. Although it is a little overpriced, the food is pretty good and I don't know a better place for japanese curry.
I usually order the chicken katsu plate because its relatively cheap compared to the other items, though last weekend I was feeling extra hungry so I opted for the sizzling pot. They offer to mix your curry into your veggies/rice for you when they bring it to you, which I always accept because I'm lazy, and sometimes there is a cute waitress ^_^. There's a good amount of amount of rice, my friend ordered the same thing and we both finished all the chicken first with a significant amount of rice left. Though there is plenty of curry to go with it, which very tasty itself and a good amount of spice depending on what level you order. Me and my friend both got medium and I think we really felt it for a few hours after dinner - it was probably low 70s or high 60s outside but it felt like it was 80 degrees. Maybe we're just weak.
They are currently having a promotion on desserts, if you buy a drink you get $2 off desert. I ordered an iced tea and my friend ordered a tropical iced tea - they ended up being the exact same thing, kinda disappointing. Though we did get 1 free refill on all our drinks, which I don't know if they usually do. It may have been because my dish took longer to come out and the manager had to go check on it. If so, that's cool. For dessert I got the custard pudding. Pretty basic stuff I guess - I'm not an expert on puddings. Not bad for $1.75 if I'm remember correctly.
Overall, pretty good food and service. Only complaints are slightly overpriced, and peak dinner hours are sometimes not worth waiting for. I'd definitely find myself back here sometime.
This place is consistent. Service is good, very clean and quick. They are always accomodating here. It's a bit pricey for what it is, but it's pretty good and it's closer than Mitsuwa market.
It's $9-10 for all curries and pastas. They have salads too for $7-9. The curry portion is pretty large and they have beef, chicken and pork. It comes with a side salad, rice and radish. They have the Japanese version of the Korean hotpot, which is ok too.
Would recommend to any curry lover.
That's right, a 2 star on this restaurant. Came here for the first time yesterday with my boys MF and IC. Thank God for the great company to supercede the horrible execution on the food. The menu is nicely decorated with so many choices that we looked for 10 minutes. It reminded me of the curry houses in Hong Kong food courts. ONTO THE REVIEW:
* *Salad: I recommend that you guys get the corn soup instead of the salad. Salad was an odd mix of red flava beans, corn, lettuce, and a slice of tomato. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be healthy.
* *Chicken Gratin: $14.95 Chicken, spinach, and shimeji mushroom with bechamel sauce and cheese. Let me describe why this received 2 stars. It was left in the oven for too long and my chicken was burned. Do you know that the taste of burnt chicken takes away from the other flavors? BURNING CHICKEN is a huge no-no. There was spinach and mushrooms inside, but not enough. They could've put in a few more spinach leaves and mushrooms for proportions. The cheese used was high quality though I must say because it was so elastic. There was also a meat sauce on the bottom. It was pretty big proportions and they had a great idea, just horrible execution.
Maybe 2 stars is harsh? No, I don't believe so, sometimes there is no second chance.
$18 bucks total for this after tax and tip. Think twice before coming. I don't know if I'll come here again.
first time i tried japanese style curry and it won't be the last! WE GOT THE CHICKEN CURRY W/SAUCE & WHITE RICE. those pickle-radishes were delicious! bf and i almost cleaned out the entire jar! their iced, sweetened green tea was so refreshing. corn soup was okay, bf thought it tasted a little bland. service is great. waited probably 20 minutes to get a table since it was so packed. it's cool through, worth the wait!
Mmmm...came in with a hungry tummy and came out satisfied and smelling like curry.
Be aware, that it's Japanese meets Italian? I don't get it, but at least there's an alternative to those who don't dig curry.
I had the Deluxe Fried Shrimp Curry, which consisted of pilaf rice, wrapped in a fried egg and topped with 3 tempura shrimp. The curry that it came with was really good and it there was so much of it! It also comes with either a salad or miso soup. Servings are big and I was only able to eat half of it. You definitely get your money's worth.
My friend had Seafood Gratin, which was a little too cheesy for my liking. My brother had the Chicken and Ginger Curry, which was really good! I think I'll order that the next time. Menus come with nice pictures for each dish. Very helpful!
Not my favorite place to eat. But my coworker and I, had to try this place out, it is right next to work. So this place around lunch time is a haven for mommies and their loud kids. Not fun. The staff gave this little girl a balloon and during my meal I was so afraid she was going to pop the balloon, as she was biting on it. That noise just scares the tar out of me. *POP!* They finally left.
There are some vegetarian options. What I did was mix and match. Had a garden salad, very yummy sesame dressing, miso soup and a side of hot tofu and rice. All of that, yes did fill me up. I did like the design of the restaurant, very modern and clean.
Wow, do they try really hard to be Japanese or what? Too much curry, I'm going to die.. I'm going to smell like Little India..
My friend took me here, actually I wanted to try this place out because I like Japanese curry .. but not to the point I'm going to smell like one..
And you know.. the food is so damn bland! It just taste like imitation poop, and I don't know if you like to eat poop unless you're a crack addict
But if you do .. this shit is the bomb
Try their Keema curry. It is to die for.
Consistent food.
Service can be slow at times, depending on if you hit the lunch rush hour.
Japanese food with a twist of Westernization. Interesting and flavoriful dishes to say the least. I think there's a whole mess of good things to try on the menu. I like it!
Recommendations: Chickenkatsu Curry and their Fruit Punch!
Since trying Muracci's in SF, I've been hooked on Japanese curry. We are in the south bay a lot so I looked and found Curry House. I ordered the chicken katsu curry and it was awesome. If you are looking for some deep fried comfort food, this is the place. This isn't fine dining...it's borderline fast food and I love it like I love Jack in the crack. We've come back a couple of times already and never have been disappointed. Service is quick, friendly. Family friendly restaurant.
Came here for my buddy's birthday last year. Food is good. It was my first experience into Japanese Curry and I was not disappointed. Portions are huge. Like massive. The place takes reservations. Parking can be a little difficult.
Food is good. I had the chicen katsu curry and was pleasantly surprised. Will return here sometime. Great place for groups, we had a huge table and they were very accommodating, and service was good.
glad it has found its way to nor cal from so cal. my favorites are keema curry (with soft boiled egg) and menchi katsu curry. with corn soup.
Good food! Sometimes they make you stand waiting when there are empty tables. Other than that, good spagetti !!
