Two star for the food and four star for Sara the owner. She really take care of her customer even though she's the only person running this dive. Don't expect any food after 5PM unless you've called ahead of time. The food is Fiji-Indian and it's nothing to write home about.

Hole in the wall indeed! [whatever that means]

I could never find great places to eat on my own. Good thing I have a friend that barely works and randomly clicks at stuff in the Webster-Net (tm).

I pretty much loved every dish we got from this place. A definite "I'm close enough; I have to eat there" kind of place. [WHAT?]

Go to this place! NOW!

Mmmmm mmmm mmmm....!!!
The first time I went here was probably 3 years ago - my ex and I wanted to eat at Pakwan which was next door but it was closed... so we decided to eat there. I loved it, but I was never around that area since we broke up... until I moved to Castro Valley.

Then I noticed it as one of the highest rated restaurants in my area on Yelp, and I suddenly had a craving. I must have driven by three times, but it was closed each time.

Then yesterday it was finally open - Saras said she had to go to Fiji for a funeral. She remembered me, which completely boggled my mind.. I hadn't been there in three years! She served us tomato chutney, some pea curry type thing, and some spicy green beans.... oh my gosh I was in heaven. She makes all of her bread to order as well, so that was awesome. I left completely stuffed, and it was only $13 for the two of us!!! She is very modest about her tips... and if you give her too much she will say "that's too much!" - but she definitely deserved it.

I ate a vegetarian meal yesterday, but she said on fridays she has seafood... which I MUST try since I don't eat any other meat.

I would give the food 4 stars because it is awesome but not the best I've ever had... but for the price and for how personable Saras is, I just had to join the 5-star bandwagon.

I tried it second time. And this time we were in luck. Saras was preparing some fried fish and also cooking was some gravy chicken. And she had some dry masala chicken ready. I was ecstatic; :)  Now how many times does that happen, when you go there without ordering  ahead and you get everything :)

So I just hoarded everything. The masala chicken was very spicy. yumm. Fried fish medium spicy and tasty. I still don't like that the curry chicken has so much oil. The vegs were beans and cauliflower-potato mix curry. Tasty.
I would like to taste some more variety  of vegetables. I know, I am so picky.
I  now ALWAYS CALL before I go there and would recommend it for others too.

$7 curry lamb with rice and veggie, heaven on earth!

Sara's so nice and cool. Although I tried to play it out by not asking for the menu and just said "what do you have today?" But she knew I'm a noob! She said "I go easy on the curry." while she's loading the box up with chunks and chunks of lamb, rice and lots of curry! And boy they smell so GOOD! When she hand the box over to me she said "Carry." and gesture me to use both hands to hold it so it won't tip over, which I did, I carry it out to my car like my precious with both hands.

For some reason the traffic home just feel unbearably slow. Traffic light at every intersection! It's killing me! I just want to get home and dive into that box! 15 minutes later, which felt like eternity, I open the box and dig in.

WOW! My sensory system kicked into hyper-drive! The last time I had curry like this was in New Dehli when my friend took me out to a local hole in the wall place! OMIG

Fijian style curry is close to Indian style but they packs a punch. So for those of you already find that Indian curry a bit too spicy, be warned. I've no problem since I love spicy food. The curry sauce is so smooth, reminds me of Vietnamese curry (sweet) which you can drink it like a soup, there's no grit of spice but just flavor. The lamb was cooked to perfection, great texture, infused with flavor, but not over powered by the curry that you don't taste the lamb. Long grain rice with curry sauce, spicy and sweet. And the vegetable? If I'll have to give up meat and became vegetarian, Sara's veggie might do it. By the time I'm done with it, nothings left, I scooped out the few dapples of curry sauce and finger leaking them clean. =p

I'm planning my schedules to fit Sara in-between my classes up the hill so I'll be back for lunch, three times a week! Oh too bad, you live far away huh!

================================================== ======
2nd take

Came back on a Tuesday. I was going to eat here before I go to class but tables was taken so it's a take out order.

Saras greeted me with a big smile. And loaded me up with my order, curry beef. Side dishes, a simple zucchini sweet onion salad and coconut milk curry eggplant.

As expected the curry beef is just wonderful. However, there's a little problem with the egg plant, not that I don't like egg plant, I hate egg plant! BUT, I ate them all! Yeah, it was that good! =p

Five stars despite having to clean our own table and get our own drinks. The food is THAT GOOD! Curry Corner is what every hole in the wall should be; Food first, and nothing else matters. To rate any hole in the wall on things like atmosphere, cleanliness, or attentiveness and customer service of the staff is nonsensical.  I love that the woman who owns it only seems to stay open when she finds it convenient and serves whatever she feels like that day. The fact that she's successful despite these things is a great testament to how good this place is.I have a new favorite restaurant in the east bay.

Okay yelpers, you have led me to one of the oddest places I've eaten in Hayward.  I've lived here for most of my life, so I've seen some crazy loop-dee-loo stuff.

This is a hole in the wall of a hole in the wall.  About the size of a small motor home, it hosts only two tables with three seats each.  And don't get me started about the parking lots.  Jeeez, it appears like it went through an air raid.  There are wooden boards to drive over because of gaps in the pavement.  Some of the speed bumps have been stripped yet the road hasn't been repaired.  The neighboring businesses also look like they're teetering on the edge of oblivion.

You can spot Curry Corner by it's colorful sign and "yelped" window.  The door is propped open for entrance.

When I came there, the main chef and store owner was talking to her customers/friends/family/whatever the hell they are.  One of them was this elderly man who says absolutely nothing and stares into the abyss.  The two other middle-aged men were talking rapidly.

I just stood there waiting in confusion as minutes rolled by.  I was so mesmerized by this commotion, and lack of customer hospitality, that my mind went blank.  Should I sit down?  Interrupt the conversation?  Leave?

Finally the lady politely asked me,
"Do you know what you want?"
"Ummm, do you have a menu?"
"Your first time here?"
"Yeah"
"Do you want the special of the day?"
"Uh, sure" (Do I have a choice??).

The lady continued to talk to the men as she scooped food onto my dish.  She came to the counter and handed me a shiny tin plate the size of a hubcap.  I felt like i was supposed to toss this thing at the Olympic games.  Or maybe it was a trophy from Wimbledon.

A compartmentalized prison-style plate with four grooves, three for side dishes and one for the entree.  The plate is about 17-inches in diameter.

The amount of food is staggering.  The day's special included cauliflower mixed with eggs, eggplant, some kind of tomato salad that looks like a chunky salsa, and an entree of white rice covered in wet spicy chicken stew.  It's all steaming hot and comes with plastic utensils.

I dug right in because it smelled great.  The food is really tasty, moist, and satisfying.  If you don't enjoy spicy food, steer well clear of this place!  I like my spicy food but this bordered on ridiculous.  I had to grad a canned Sprite from the fridge to simmer the heat down.  The majority of the heat came from the chicken's sauce.  Everything else that I ate cooled the sauce down, but it still wasn't enough.

"Too hot for you?"
"Just a tad."
"I made it with fresh chillies, no side effects."
"Thanks?"

I think my favorite dish was the cauliflower.  Everything was fresh and tastes really good.

"Bring your plate here."
"Huh? Okay."
"This is dry chicken."

She added three pieces of dry curry chicken to my plate.  Wow, she's generous.  I preferred this chicken to the wet version.  It's flavor is more saturated and less spicy.  She even gave me an additional scoop of white rice to help with the heat.  It took me a good amount of time to get through the food.  It felt like I was at a friend's or relatives, so I just had to finish everything on my plate.

As I was eating, more and more friends came in.  She was constantly busy talking and cooking.  When I was finally ready to pay I handed her my twenty dollar bill.  She stated that it was $7, but then looked worried and asked if I had change.  Since I didn't she went to her purse!  She scrounged through it and recovered $12.  I didn't mind paying a dollar more because of the insane portions.

I left the place unbelievably full.  It felt like the aftermath of Thanksgiving.  I felt like either rolling down a hillside or sleeping it off.
___

You should visit this place for the food or sheer novelty of the experience.  What a find.

Additional Note: Overhearing a conversation, it sounds like she's going to retire soon and close up shop.

Saras remembers my brother who used to frequent this spot weekly while he went to Cal State Hayward (Pre all this CSU East Bay Crap).

She catered my bro's graduation party and the food was flavorful, plentiful and even BETTER the next day! True home cooking.

I LOVED spicy food cooked by Saras! She got the best goat curry (if she has it)! Also, she is always nice and price her food low so I always feels bad and ended up giving her more. She deserves it tho bec no one can make hot curry like she does!

We went here for dinner last night just on the spur of the moment. We were really hungry and I had read reviews about this place earlier on Yelp. I must agree with all the other reviews before mine. This place is really good!

We arrived 30 minutes before she closed so she didn't have too much food left but the taro curry we had was delicious! She even gave us half off.

Coming here felt like I was coming home to my mom's cooking. We will definitely be back in the future. Can't wait to try her other dishes!

Dining here was an experience! I just came here with some friends and sat down.. No menu... You just sit there and Saras hands you a variety of Curry dishes.. Everything is made from scratch so you might have to wait a while( but well worth it ) We feasted on Lamb, Cod, Chicken, Veggies, Rice, Roti... All these dishes were off the chain and pretty spicy.. I think I drank like three 7ups..

I agree with all the other reviewers who said this food was da bomb, but I only had a taste.  My family and I arrived after 6p (closing time) and Saras said she had no more food left.  Because we were only visiting in Hayward, Saras felt sorry for us and scraped up the dregs of lamb curry, fresh pea curry and other stuff, from her pots and gave it to us.  Gosh, it was good and SPICY!  I wish Hayward was closer to home.  As Arnold would say, "I'll be back!"

There's really not much I can say which hasn't been already said in the other reviews. Food and service were excellent.

Call in and ask for her daily special so you don't have to wait long. I did a walk-in and had to wait about 15 minutes because there were quite a few people ahead of me. I didn't mind waiting because: A) Sara was very nice and let me try food as I waited B) there was a really cute girl eating at one of the two tables.

Service is unlike anywhere else in the Bay Area. She's a genuinely pleasant person (not being nice for a tip or good review) and seems to love what she does. The place has a very comfortable, "home-y" feeling.

$7 bucks for lots of home cooked Fijian/Indian food.

I've grown up exposed to the deliciousness of home-cooked Indian food since I met my best friend when we were 6. So I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to curried delights.
I came here for the first time yesterday with my friend for her birthday breakfast (at noon) and it was amazing.
Saras is one of the nicest ladies I've ever met, I felt like I was sitting with an Auntie being spoiled with the best food in Hayward.
Lots of great vegetarian options and if you call ahead or go in a little bit early she'll make sure she can accommodate your dietary needs.
I'm gonna definitely try to visit once a week, it was the best breakfast I've had in awhile!

Mmm...Mmm...GOOD!!!  I'm drooling just thinking about it, even though it has been about a month since I had first tried this place.  This one of a kind environment is your window to the true definition of what authentic Fijian cuisine should be, without having to buy a $3,000 roundtrip ticket to the islands.  And not to mention, Saras is such a sweetheart!  She is amazing in the kitchen as she is solely there on her own with no cook line in sight.

You do not have to worry about wasting your time in debating what to order on the menu because there isn't one.  Saras cooks whatever she feels like that day and with the freshest ingredients ship to her from around the world on a daily.  Each dish is so DELICIOSO and I am not exaggerating one bit.  There's a lot of her love blended in with each recipe she cooks, as she shares her stories with us about her native land and the traditional ways in making the dishes.  I thought it was cute when she expressed her joy and love for her "fried little fishie" snacks.

Curry Corner and Saras is definitely a must, if you love good eats!  She will not only fill your tummies three times over, but will expose you to a culture you never knew of, without having to take a cultural anthropology class ;0)

From the moment we walked in the door, Saras greeted us w/ a big smile, and knew who we were right away, and was expecting us. (Apparently towards the end of the day, she tends to run out of food, so always call ahead of time to make sure). Also, you should know that she does not have a "set menu" so be prepared to eat whatever she has on hand. She usually tends to the vegetarians as well, so don't let that hinder you from checking her out. What she cooks changes on a daily basis too, everything from fish & crab, to goatmeat!

The restaurant is small...almost like you're going over to your aunt's house for a home-cooked meal. We ended up just standing there and having a great conversation w/ her as she was making us some fresh roti (from scratch!!).  We arrived around 5pm, and was her last customers of the day (she usually closes @ 6pm), so she hooked us up w/ a huge portion of what was left of her chicken curry (which was sooo tender, it literally peeled off the bones),  some delicious dahl (that included fresh veggies & different types of lentils/beans, along w/ spices & bailey leaves, blended to perfection in a flavorful soup), another bean & potato dish, topped off w/ her home made chili chutney and of course rice. All for $15!! We gave her a $10 tip (just bc that was all i had left  in my purse). We walked away w/ enough food to last us 2 days!

It is called "Curry Corner Takeaway" but don't expect to just arrive, grab your order, and leave. We had our order to go, but ended up staying for like an hour, because we were so wrapped up in conversation, and was so intrigued w/ Saras' genuine hospitality and love for cooking. SOO SOOO personable. She told us stories about her grown kids, and about her adventures in Fiji...it was like visiting your beloved auntie you haven't seen in ages, that loves to tell stories, and FEED you!

I'm ecstatic that i don't have to drive all the way to berkeley or oakland anymore to get my indian/fijian food fix =)

What a totally awesome experience.  I think I just gained another auntie and one that cooks up a storm!  This was actually my fourth attempt at checking out this place and Saras was finally there and open.  It was totally worth the drive/s.  The chicken biryani is to die for and so is the hand made roti.  We'll definitely be back next week for the fish head curry.

Minor gripe: when a place gets great reviews, it's starts to attract the lower belly of yelpers.  These are people that just have to go to any place that warrants five stars just to prove otherwise.  Seriously people, if you don't like spicy food, why the heck are you eating here?  That's almost as ridiculous as people reviewing places they don't actually eat at.  "the place was empty so I didn't walk in... 1 star!".  That's ridiculous folks.  You don't need a gazillion reviews to prove you have a life.

Curry Corner is a great place for a home-cooked meal of unique, fresh curries with piping hot rotis made to order.  The place is a true cramped hole in the wall with two tables and four chairs.  Sara's kitchen takes up most of the space.  The tables aren't so clean, so I wouldn't take someone here who really cares about that.  Plus the shopping center looks scary and dilapidated.  Sara mentioned that she would like to move to a nicer area of Hayward (and she's working on a cookbook).

Sitting inside Curry Corner is like sitting in Sara's kitchen. The food kept on coming and it's clear she really cares about satisfying her customers.  You won't leave hungry.  She asked me if I wanted more rotis several times and said I could have more rice too.  I ate way too much and as I prepared to leave, Sara wanted to know if I wanted more food for the road.

There is no menu.  Ask what she has that day.  She varies what she cooks depending on her delivery schedule, what's in season, etc.  I chose lamb curry because it's the spiciest and the $7 plate came with long grain rice (from the rice cooker, it was fine but not noteworthy), sour eggplant salad, yellow eggplant curry, dahl (not made out of lentils but 4 different legumes), crispy apple & carrot salad, lamb curry, and freshly made rotis.  I could see the dough balls in her tiny kitchen.

The curries are very good and each one has distinct spices (her own spice mixes).  The rotis were warm and chewy and not oily.  The lamb curry was oily and the chunks of lamb were dry but the flavor was yummy.  It was spicy but not very spicy even after I added the chilis she gave me.  Watch out for the bones.

Some of the curries were lukewarm, unfortunately.  I think they would have been better served piping hot even if it means sticking them longer in the microwave (or maybe they weren't supposed to be hot - I dunno).  4.5 stars - the meat should  be more tender and the curries should be hotter (as in warmer).

Cash only.

When we first got in, the owner was very friendly when greeting us.

"Every Saturdays about this time you 'young orientals' come for the first time. Heard my place from Yelp?"

Without even hearing the first part we said yes and were just looking around to see the menu. Like other people mentioned no menu just special of the day or whatever she gets from the market the same morning.

The rice was really good, not dried and vegetables were tasty. She gave us 3 different kinds of meat, lamb, chicken, beef. Everything was really good.

She let us sample fried fish.
It was really good. She said she cooks it more on weekdays for lunch.

It came out to about $8 per person. Not great for sit in but if there's a seat try dining in cuz you never know what other goodies you might get to sample.

I came here with Ed C. and Jason R. after hearing about Saras and her amazing homestyle Fijian cooking. Oh man, she totally EXCEEDED the hype.

When we got there, she just started cooking without asking us what we wanted. Saras knows that Ed and Jason would eat anything, especially anything she cooks up. About fifteen minutes later, she served up seven dishes. We didn't even have enough room on the table for everything! We had some fried fish that was flown in from Fiji, some crab she had set aside for us, chicken marsala, roti, tomato chutney, eggplant curry, chicken curry and rice. Everything was packed with so much flavor and absolutely DELICIOUS.

Saras is the nicest lady, too. You can tell she cooks for the love of cooking and doesn't try to rip her customers off by overcharging them.

This was such a good find. Thank you Yelp - you've done it again!

THANK YOU YELP!

I feel like a total a-hole for not discovering this place earlier in life.  I pride myself in knowing where all the best hole in the wall places to eat around my neighborhood are.  Shit on me for thinking I knew them all!

I went there for the first time today with Jason R.  Saras is friggin' awesome.  She totally knew that Jason R. and I were Curry Corner Virgins.  She looked at us as we stared aimlessly around the place and said, "First time?"  We were caught in the act.  She then asked, "What brought you here?  Yelp?"  Damn!!!  Were we that transparent???  I think it was when Jason R. asked for a menu that she knew we were total n00bs.

Lemme explain this to you...  You do not come the Curry Corner to eat, you come here to get fed.  Saras makes everything from scratch daily.  Whatever she feels like cooking that day, she cooks.  All natural ingredients.  (All this info we found out today as she sits and chats with you while you are eating.)  All curry, all the time.  She had curry chicken, goat, and salmon today.  Sides were potato curry, eggplant curry, roti (from scratch), rice, and green mango chutney.  We got a bit of everything she had.  OMG!  Sooooooo good.  The curry is to die for.  Sooooooooo much flavor, soooooooo many spices.  Its like a coup d'etat of the tongue with every bite.

The place was full of regulars as well.  First name basis between Saras and them.  They just walk in and she serves them food.  They don't need to say a word, they just believe.  We also met Curry Corner's very first customer ever today.  Saras said that the lady was the first person to eat there when she first opened on January 14th, 2001.  That's a faithful dedicated customer base.

After our super delicious and super filling meal, we were confused about how much to pay.  We asked Saras and she said, "$17".   HUH?  Are you serious???  No way!!!  We ate enough to feed an elephant with a case of the munchies and it only cost $17???  This is outrageous.  We ended up giving her $30.  The meal and experience was worth $100, so we feel like we still got a deal.

Curry Corner and Saras's cooking is not a meal but an experience.  The only regret I have is not discovering this place earlier.  Thank you again Yelp.

Let me start off by saying that I don't think that Indian food is my favorite cuisine. With that said, I came here based on Yelp reviews. The bf and I went on a Saturday afternoon because we wanted to try something new. This is located in a kind of ghetto "shopping lot," and the actual place was a lot smaller than I imagined. But, we aren't picky people; as long as the food's good, we don't mind ghetto surroundings.

I think the con to coming in the afternoon past the lunch hour was that the food wasn't hot. We tried a little bit of everything, which ended up being way too much food. Everything was good, but honestly, I don't think Indian food is our thing.

The three stars are for the service, the food (if we were to like Indian food), and the price.

I love it here so much.
It takes me back to my love of Daun Pisang style cuisine, licking the goodness off of your fingers. You simply can't go wrong here.
Be prepared for an unusual experience, it's not like a usual restaurant, don't expect a menu.
Be a little zen about the experience, the wait can be long, but it is always worth it.
I hesitate to draw too much attention to the place, lest anything go wrong, but her food is simply some of the best around.

I completely agree with all other Yelpers on this review.

My first time, I chose chicken (passed on the goat), and brought home vegetarian for the cute boy I married (going on 2 decades now!).

WOW, WOW, WOW.  I almost shed tears the dal was so good.  And I don't think I will ever be able to eat someone else's eggplant dish, ever, not even my own.

I expected to find Saras Rao a wonderful person, I expected good food.  The real thing surpassed all expectations.  The best part?  No stomach explosions a few hours later.

I actually drove all the way over the Raja Indian Cuisine on West Winton, parked in their lot, and then said, "forget it, I'm going to try Curr y Corner Takeaway today."

I'm so, so, sorry, Raja.  I don't know that I will be back for a very long time.

Mrs. Rao, you are the sum total of everything I like about food and the people who feed me.

I will be back again and again.  Fish fry, here I come!

I would give this 4.5 stars if possible. I just love stopping here to pick up lunch to take back to the office. Saras is very friendly and is a great cook of her native Fujian cusine. She takes a personal interest in your likes and dislikes and serves you what she thinks you'll enjoy. She often adds extras, above and beyond what you've ordered. I really like the lamb and fish curry dishes. My only real objection is the bones in the lamb curry. The amount varies but sometimes it can be annoying as you pick through the bones to find the meat, other times it's more  meat than bones. You also get a huge serving of rice to soak up those tasty juices. Guaranteed you'll never go away hungry or dissatisfied. It's comfort food all the way.

I have to agree with everyone else, the food was excellent. Hmm, there is no menu and when I walked in she was working on a big order for someone else. She was frying fish. Smelled great. After letting her know that this was my first time, asking what she recommended, she presented me with a small piece of fish to taste, then advised she didn't have anymore. I think she is tad evil. The fish was awesome, nice and crispy, perfectly seasoned, fresh out of the grease. I ended up with some sort of egg rice, lamb curry and chicken curry, veggies and 2 roti. I don't really like roti, a tad doughy. It was great and I had leftovers for a few days. Nice savory curry's. It ran me 10 bucks. Totally worth it. The schedule can be a little annoying, I called everyday for a week before I was able to have her say she would be around when I could swing by.

For all you yelpers out there that happen to see this place as #1 in the Hayward area and haven't gone yet, make sure the next place you go is here.  It's trully a place where the food, atmosphere, and people can only be experienced.  My buddy Ed C. and I have been talking about going to this place for the longest time, and finally did today.

Right when we walked in, the woman running the place, Saras, was like, "First time here huh?  I could tell."  There's no menu.  She constantly switches things up so everything is always fresh.  We ordered the goat, chicken, and salmon.  All was exceptionally flavorful.  She also hooked us up with some kind of soup and vegetables which were also just as good.  And the chutney was probably the best I've had... ever.

She seemed to know everyone who was there.  A lady walked in after we were already seated, and without even ordering, she some how had a big bowl of something.  I was like how the hell did she do that.  Come to find out that she was the first customer ever and at that point, it all made sense to me.  Apparently Saras opened up shop on January 14th, 2001, so the anniversary is coming up.  I think I'll show up that day.

We even got a history lesson while eating.  At one point, I filled up my jailhouse cafeteria style tray with more food, already stuffed, and just force fed myself.  So I was sittig back, thinking I was done, when Ed goes, "Pick one. Pick one. Pick one."  There was a piece of salmon and chicken left. I was totally done, but just grabbed the chicken anyways.

Both meals came out to be only $17.50, but the experience was so great, we ended up giving her extra.

Quit reading and go!!!

Like most people probably, I found this place on Yelp. I went in for lunch on a Saturday and there was already 3 other people in there. The place does look a bit run down and dirty but Saras was very welcoming and friendly. From the moment I walked into the door, she some how knew it was my first time there. I waited a while and watched her cook up some fresh roti, ordered Lamb Curry to go. While waiting, she was talking about her cookbook, her children, how she got her roti pan, and just random things ... it was refreshing from other places where you just order, get served, and eat.

Anyway, back to the food. She filled half the to-go container with rice... then Lamb Curry. Then she filled another container with potatoes, then another container with sauce. Then she rolled up one of those fresh roti's I just saw her made. All to go! Holy, I think I'm set for lunch and dinner! As soon as I got home, I dug in and as other yelpers have written, the food is great! I like spicy food so this was perfect for me. Definitely a place to visit on a weekly basis.

I tried both the chicken curry & fish curry. They are really, really good. I will try the goat next. I think they only offer it on tuesdays. The rice is perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice. The sides were also very good. Roti, very good. Definitely 5 star worthy.

WARNING: the servings here are big, so skip breakfast.

I went here on Saturday!

The lady was really nice and asked me how I found her place and I told her Yelp!

I got 3 boxes, one for me, one for my boyfriend, and one for my boyfriend's cousin.

I got a chicken one..wow it was so good and I loved the fact that it wasn't that spicy..well I ate some sort of green pepper and that almost killed me.

I also tried the boyfriend's lamb one. Wow, meat falling off the bone, tender! I loved that one!

The apple slices were wow..I've never tried anything like that before! Juicy apple and then the spiciness hits you.  What an experience!

The lady also gave me some of her fish and I tried it. Kind of spicy for me though! I can't really take spice if you've noticed already!

Also tried the eggplant curry.  I think I like that more than the potatoes and peas..maybe.

YUMILICIOUS!

The hubby found this place browsing Yelp awhile ago but we had not gotten around to heading out there because it seemed so out of the way. We finally decided to suck it up and took the drive out there for lunch. First, let me say THANK YOU to all the Yelpsters who helped my hubby find Curry Corner. I will forever be in your debt because the food is DAMN GOOD. No joke!

I really like Indian food and was super intrigued that Curry Corner is a Fijian Indian place. We showed up about 1220p on a Friday and couldn't tell from the Yelp reviews if there would be seating. After driving around (warning- Google maps had the streets kind of wrong so be careful with figuring out how to get there) for a bit, we found the hole-in-the wall. (From Fremont, it' s just easier to take Mission going North than to get on the 880.) The feel is really "your friend's mama's kitchen" with makeshift shelves overflowing with spices, veggies, and mysterious containers.

The woman (I can't remember her name - sorry!) proudly does it all. She cooks, takes orders, packs your food, answers questions, answers the phone, talks to other customers, tells you stories about her family, and through it all, she remains a friendly, warm and smiling face. This place has real charm because while you are talking to the woman, you realize that she is doing this out of love of cooking. You can't beat that kind of genuineness in this day and age of generic chain-restaurants at every strip mall.

We wanted to try a little bit of everything so we got two kinds of chicken curry, some veggies, a soupy kind of bean stew, a bok choy and potato dish, some pickled bittermelon, chutney, and some roti she made while we chatted with us. We ordered for three people and paid about $22. Woah!

Everything was fantastic. My faves were the bittermelon (reminds me of a childhood dish my grandfather used to make), the veggies and the bok choy and potato dishes. The chutney was fantastic and so was the chutney.

I highly recommend this place to everyone. The food is great and for you novices, the woman will answer all your questions about Indian food. Just don't expect a lot of ambiance. Remember it's yo friends' mama's kitchen!

The food was just OK. Portion was a little on the skimpy side as well. It doesn't seem to be open the hours it specifies, its just open when its open, and closed when it wants to close.

A word of warning to Curry Corner newbies:

CASH ONLY, EXACT CHANGE ($7 for a meal, never bought a drink there) PREFERRED.

Every time I go there she hooks it up with filling portions.  A meal would usually consist of one or two kinds of vegetables, curry, rice and fresh roti.  If you're a vegetarian; you are in luck, I think her vegetable dishes are out of this world.

I will seriously eat anything she cooks.  I'll even eat her goat curry, and I hate goat.  But when she makes it, the goat tastes less gamey.
