This place has many mixed reviews.

So today, I got off at San Jose Ave. and went down Guerrero. Yayyy.Parking right in front! My luuuucky day. I needed major studying done for my final. Oh yes I needed to get down to business.

Walked right in. Place was empty. things like that do not distract me to what kind of place this is. The women behind the counter was verrry nice. She gave me my Iced Vanilla Latte, pretty big for $3. yes indeed. Brought it to my table and asked me what i was up to. Than wished me goodluck on my final.

Big Pluses:
Plenty of Plugs
Big Menu: Tea, Coffee, Smoothies, Sandwiches, Salads, Bagels and even Falafel!!!

This place rocks and Iove how it's easy access.

Did you know it's possible to come into a cafe, order your drinks, wait for them and pay for them without being spoken to? Well it's possible at Cup-O-Java.

We wanted to go into a place for an hour or so and read and drink some coffee. We asked if they were open till 6, and the woman simply nodded and looked annoyed as shit. We wouldn't have even noticed that our drinks were ready until we heard her ringing them up on the register with her bitch hands.

As we were drinking our coffee, they started bringing in the tables from outside, so obviously we were ruining their chances of closing early. We felt so awkward that we decided to leave.

The coffee was fine, although it made me feel like I had taken LSD. I won't be back unless it's to stare menacingly at the woman behind the counter from out on on the street.

When you can make your pastries look so good that I buy one,
you are a fabulous cafe.

You know what I mean.  There are those places (*cough* Starbucks *cough*) where their pastries/wraps/breads/sandwiches/whathaveyou look stale, old, are ill-presented, or sometimes even have flies INSIDE the pastry case.  yes, I said INSIDE.  And as you wait to pay for your coffee, you watch the fly try to bang against the glass in order to get out.  Maybe you're even rooting for it.

But to get back to my story.  They had their pastries presented SO well and looking SO fresh and SO yummy, I actually bought one to go along with my LARGE hazelnut latte.  If you can get me to buy a LARGE latte the first time at a new cafe, it is saying ALOT.  I had put my trust in the pastries.

and I wasn't disappointed.  The latte was delicious.  MUCH better than starbucks...and then I quickly got on the freeway and drove to San Mateo.  Cannot beat the location of this place!!

My main goal is to find a good place to work from, hence I rate my establishments based on wifi connectivity, comfort and laptop friendliness followed by everything else...

Pros:
1. Simple, not crowded
2. Plenty of electrical outlets for laptops
3. Accepts credit cards
4. Good wifi connection
5. Full menu, nothing complicated but it has a full compliment of sandwiches, salads and a breakfast menu - all reasobably priced to boot
6. If you were driving around, finding parking in this neighbourhood is pretty good
7. friendly staff

Cons:
1. Not that much seating available

This isn't a fancy place at all... but it has all the elements for a great place to sit down and work  being both quiet and comfortable. This was my find of the day - and after reading some of the other reviews even though I don't want the place to get too crowded I almost wish that there were more customers coming through here for their business. The lady here who was serving was really friendly and that is always a good added touch...

Awesomness, I am so glad i found this on yelp.

I wanted a new, quiet place to go work on my laptop for a few hours in the neighborhood.  There was maybe 1 other person that stayed in there for the three hours I was there, otherwise just me and the owners doing our own things, with a few people dropping in and head out.  i feel bad, like i want them to have more business, but at the same time it was nice having a quiet spot with free wifi and a great menu.  The menu!  its so full!  sandwhiches, coffee, drinks, etc.

I'd give it 5 stars for having lots of outlets, free wifi, and friendly staff, but if I were rating the coffee it'd be a 3. Let's split the diff and say 4/5.

Very easy place to go and work for my fellow laptop-jockeys. It's hole-in-the-wall status ensures vacancy all day long.

I now know why this place is neglected: It blows.

First, the good: Parking is easy, easy, easy. Getting a seat is easy. But getting the chatty, incredibly loud and obnoxious woman behind the counter to quit giving verbal blowjobs and free food to her buddies and to shut the fuck up -- now that's not easy. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm looking for a cafe where I can relax.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Neglected-feeling little cafe in the Outer Mission. I think it may be owned by the same folk who own Peoples in Berkeley -- same menu, even drawn by the same menu artist. Props up for free wifi and plenty of outlets. The place is kinda deserted and not in the greatest area for walk-in traffic. But it's awright for killing time.

I'd like to rate this place higher, because the people are so friendly, but I really can't. It's so convenient, because it's on the street leading up to the 280 on-ramp, but when I'm on my way to work, I always have to remind myself that I should never come here if I'm in a hurry. The word glacial comes to mind when I think of their service.

Add that to the fact that on two occasions so far, they've gotten my order completely wrong whenever I get something to go. It's a drag when you arrive somewhere, open a package, and realize that it's not what you ordered. AND I WAS THE ONLY CUSTOMER IN THIS PLACE!

Oh yeah, and the guy who works there often looks really disoriented. It's rather comical....

This is the worst cafe I've experienced in San Francisco. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I've now been here three times since it's close to my apartment. Each time I've sworn I'm never going back. This time I really won't. First, the service. I've never in my life seen anyone take as long to slice, toast, and put hummus on a bagel in my life. Really. And this has been the case all three times I've been here. Does it really take 10-15 minutes to get a bagel when you're the ONLY customer in the place and you even mention you're in a hurry??!! On the topic of service, the first time we went here, two women were basically screaming (or at least talking aggressively and very loudly) in Spanish behind the counter, making it IMPOSSIBLE to read or hold a conversation there. Now on to the food, all three times I've been there they have left off things that were supposed to be on my "open face bagel sandwich". The second time they acknowledged they were out of ingredients, but this last time I didn't find out until I had taken the bagel to go and opened it up to find they must have "been out of" ingredients again (and conveniently forgot to mention it). Finally, the food itself was NOT tasty. The bagel was not really toasted, the hummus smelled like peanut butter (NOT sure how this is possible!!??) and, as I mentioned, they left veggies out that were supposed to be in there. Needless to say, I won't be back. Now I understand why the place is always empty.

On the days I drive to work, this is where I go for my morning soy latte.  The best thing about their drinks is they are served very hot, which isn't the case for other places I've been for my morning caffeine fix.

The same 3 people are there every time I've gone in - a man who I surmise is the owner and 2 women behind the bar.  They are all very nice, and keep the small talk to a minimum, which is important to me because I am not much into chatting, especially not before my morning cup.

I haven't had much of anything from their menu aside from the occasional bagel, but it does look like a good selection.  I hope they receive more business on a regular basis than what I've seen in the mornings, because it's a nice, clean, spot.

Fabulous food, friendly attentive service, and wise philosophy combine to make each visit to this mom and pop restaurant a delight.  Lugina and Norman are warm and welcoming hosts to all comers, from neighbors to out-of-towners (like my parents from Florida who discovered them a few years ago) to me and my husband and our son.  If we lived closer, we'd be regulars, but we'll keep making the trek across town for that outstanding hummus plate and generous greek salad!  Don't miss this gem!

Based on food only-OMG how have I lived in this hood for 2 years and today was my 1st meal here?

I had a HUGE chicken cesar salad for $6.50. Not drowning in dressing and not stingy w/it either. Chicken was juicy like grandma used to make. Bf got a delish croissant w/fluffy egg. Not the usual rubbery nuked egg like other cafes.

I'm going back soon to try some of the Mediterranean food. This neighborhood has a ton of good food to choose from and this place just shot to the top of the list.
