Big Val sent me to the Cup N Saucer, and I was very happy with it. The restaurant is located in a strip mall on Blossom Hill and Kooser - the one that used to be anchored by Mervyn's.

I've had the Eggs Benedict, they were pretty good - though the drown them in Hollandaise.  I like Hollandaise, but this is a bit excessive.  And I've had it a few times, so they are consistent with pouring it on.  But my favorite item at Cup N Saucer is the Apricot Bread French Toast. Sweet and delicious!  You barely even need a touch of syrup because the fresh apricots already make the dish so sweet.

If you live nearby, definitely worth checking out. A solid 3.5 star rating.

I've been to Cup and Saucer twice for breakfast and have been satisfied with the quality and portions on both occasions.  On my last visit, I ordered the chicken fried steak.  This is one of those easy dishes that isn't always executed well.  The steak itself was crunchy, juicy and had good flavor.  The sawdust (sausage) gravy had good sausage flavor, but was a bit too thick.  Just a tad less flour or more milk and it would have been perfect.  This dish comes with 3 eggs, an order of Cup and Saucer's excellent crispy potatoes and a bread selection.  I recommend getting the biscuit, which is the best vehicle for sopping up that gravy.  Plus, they do something I've never seen with the standard buttermilk biscuit: they split one, butter it and then griddle it on the flattop.  Very nice.

One of these days I'll try their lunch offerings.  The breakfast items are solid.

My wife and I have dined at this establishment over 100 times, so yeah, we like it very much.  The only thing preventing me from giving it a full five stars (I'd actually give this place 4.5 stars, if that were an option) is that their dinner menu is only good, but not great.  They very frequently have lamb chops as a special, which are delicious (but a little skimpy).  I can't really recommend the pasta.

What this place does VERY well, however, is breakfast.  And fortunately, they serve breakfast whenever they are open (I just had an omelette there at seven, earlier this evening, in fact).  They have a very large breakfast menu, with numerous omelette and "scramble" selections, as well as various concoctions pertaining to pancakes, waffles, and french toast.  They also serve breakfast quesadillas, which are delicious (probably about as good as any you'll get at a non-Mexican joint), but not quite as large as I would have liked (please keep in mind that I'm a big, tall, overweight fellow, who probably eats heartier than you do), biscuits & gravy, and they have a delicious selection of items "From the Bakery," that one can get instead of toast or an English muffin, such as cornbread, and the truly scrumptious carrot-walnut-bread.  Additionally, they have a good array of breakfast ala carte items, including linguica.  In addition to "Our Great Breakfast Potatoes," they also have standardized, frozen hash browns.  You want the former.

About half the times I go there, I order as follows:  A Build-Your-Own-Omelette, with cheddar, ham, and garlic on the inside, with mozzarella melted onto the top of it.  Breakfast potatoes well-done ("crispy"), and I constantly switch off between the cornbread, and the carrot-walnut-bread (my wife sometimes gets the raspberry coffee cake - mind you, this is included in the price, and is served in lieu of toast, so its a pretty sweet option to have available).

The waitresses do a good job, are friendly, and as a general rule, pretty easy on the eyes.  It seems like they always have the same, heavy-set Mexican dude doing bus duty.  He's real nice, too, but I don't think he speaks much English.

This place has been there forever, and the Mervyn's they're located right next door to (at Kooser and Blossom Hill Road) is out of business, so now is a pretty good time to stop in (that is, if you like to support non-corporate owned establishments like this, and frankly, you should like to).  Although they still seem pretty darn busy during their peak hours.

The food also comes very fast.  Most people consider that a plus; I know I do.  And I once ordered a screwdriver there, and was pleasantly surprised at how strong they made it.

Kids eat free on Mondays, and Monday night (after 4 pm, I think) is also when they serve their truly delicious French Onion Soup.  Chili is available at all times, in addition to their soup-of-the-day.  Their Lemon Cake is awesome, as is their Chocolate Cake.  They also have these two, similar dessert concoctions (as well as several others I haven't tried) that consist of ice cream on top of either a brownie, or a sort of large slab of chocolate-chip cookie.  I'd be hard-pressed to say which is better.  And they offer Pumpkin Pie in the autumn.

Oh, and they have a large room in the back (probably the old smoking section, when such things were still allowed here in California), which can be set aside for various meetings.  Several local clubs & associations utilize it, and I've also seen private parties being held back there.  They seat people in the back room during the weekend, breakfast rush, however.

One last thing:  The review posted previous to mine included a strong recommendation in favour of their onion rings.  I had never tried them before, but my wife and I shared an order of them with our dinner a few hours ago, based on her praise for them, and she was right.  They are very, very good!

One word- BREAKFAST.
This is the cousin (or should I say brother) to the Los Gatos Diner. The owners are related and it shows in the quality (and quantity) of the food. The potatoes are great at both places, the L.G Diner uses turmeric and herbs while The Cup keeps it simple, both are devouringly (yeah I made that up) delicious. My husband and I have been coming here for years...pre-marriage and now with our kids. Raul the owner is a really nice guy and welcomes his customers with a smile and a handshake for the regulars. My favorite waitress is Maryjane, she has worked here for as long as I can remember and Tracy is really sweet too. This is a place where everybody knows your name and the food is welcoming too.

Cup and Saucer has the best onion rings. They are unusually large (makes you wonder if they've been grown in steroids), battered in savory batter that magically doesn't dry out the rings when they're fried, and are super crispy. I can eat a plate of these and call it a meal.

Their sandwiches are mediocre and so is their service, but I would come here just for the onion rings.

Have some curiously strong mints on hand after you eat the onion rings, else you're guaranteed to have monster breath and no one will want to be close to you for the next few hours.

Definitely not a "go to" place.  It's a fall back kind of place.  I go here often and I am always disappointed somehow.

The menu is large and varied.  It's clean, the staff is pleasant, and it's in a convenient location for me.

Not much more to say...it's just a place to go to because it's close.

I go here because it is close and convenient.  The food is usually good and the service is a mixed bag.  The wait is usually long but I still go in the name of breakfast!  Let it be known that I LOVE breakfast.  Sometimes I just wait too long to eat and if we don't have anything in the house I will have to get to the nearest diner (except we don't go to the Baker's Square within walking distance...ICK) so that my angry stomach stops yelling at me and moodiness subsides.

I do like the fact that the omelets here are very large and fluffy...but I'm not a fan of the oil/butter that puddles in the crevices of the eggs.  I've tried their pancakes, hash browns, biscuits w/gravy and other standard items that are all pretty good and typical.  I can't recall ever having exceptional service here.  Long waits and generally decent service with some bad ones mixed in there.

Like I said...the food is o-kay, the service is unreliable and the parking can sometimes be a pain.  I still go here but I actually preferred City Diner even though it hadn't been remodeled since 1950.  (I believe it moved to accommodate the mondo Whole Foods that is going up in that parking lot.)

Cup N Saucer is worth a visit but if I haven't hit cranky-starving-mode and can endure a longer drive I will.

Lets seeeeee.....specials...specials.... what do they got?

Looks like they have "John Adams Omelette" served with Sausage and cheese....that sounds...meh

They have the "Thanksgiving Turkey omellette" that has turkey in it...alright, what else?

Or how about the "Pilgrim pancake special" served with berries?..Hrm, not today

No where on the whiteboard with the specials do i see the "Rape and pillage of the native american omellette" or the "small pox and chlamydia outbreak sunrise smoothie"....DISAPPOINTING!!

I went here the other day and ordered a 2 egg breakfast with corn beef hash and toast.  My eggs were meh... your typical scrambled eggs.
My corn beef hashed look like Alpo brand dog food...so it was delicious (have you ever had corned beef hash that didnt look like canned dog food? if you have....it wasnt real corned beef hash and it probably sucked)
And then there was this strange brick of potatoes that they called "hash browns"...uhm sure. whatever....

And then there was my toast......  I feel that in a breakfast ensemble such as the 2 egg, meat & potato, the toast is the corner stone that brings it all together... I got my wheat toast with butter.  But suprisingly they managed to mess that one up.  My toast looked good at first glimpse, but when i grabbed my slice and flipped it over so the buttered side was facing up, it was burnt to a crisp....those sneaky chefs burned my toast and put the burnt side bottom down thinking no one would ever find out..... or maybe i ordered my toast cajun style. but i dont recall doing that, so i chalk it up to the chefs trying to pull a fast one on old slant eyes over here.

shame on you!

Oh my god.  This used to be MY SPOT when I lived in San Jose.  I still go here when I visit my parents once a month, and it's obvious that the quality of the food has gone down in the shitter.
The souffle omelettes are terrible.  I made the mistake of ordering the crab cake benedict, and I literally had two bites.  It was so disgusting.  The only good thing about this place is the staff, who still remember me and bring out my sides of ranch and mayo with my fries.

Cup and Saucer, what happened to you?!?!

Had breakfast for lunch here today.  I ordered a ham and cheese omelette, which came with potatoes and your choice from "The Bakery" (I picked a biscuit).  Overall, I'd say it was a fairly decent breakfast, though the potatoes were a little bit tough, the biscuit was kind of dry, and while there was a TON of cheese on top of my omelette, there was none inside.  It would have tasted better if there were cheese inside.

My friend got the gorgonzola scramble, which was REALLY yummy.  I was jealous.

You really can't beat the price here!!  It was 20 bucks for both of our meals.

I am really sad to write this edit, because for many years Cup 'n Saucer has been outstanding, but in hopes that the owners follow Yelp reviews I feel like it needs to be said.

We came in mid-day on a Saturday around 2 pm and both food and service were absolutely awful.  First the waitress forgot about us for about 25 minutes. She gave us menus and left. I was ready to leave but my husband wouldn't let me.  Then the food came. My steak salad had about 5 tiny bites of steak on it, white lettuce, a bit of gorgonzola, over-ripe apple for the grand total of $10.75. My husband ordered his usual omlet and while the eggs were good, his potatoes were microwaved and stale.  We were both extremely disapponted.

I am not sure what happened.  I hope the owners just took a day off since nobody from the usual staff was there, but it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.

We'll come back in hopes that this was just a fluke, but if it was our first time we would have never stepped foot in the place again.

Basically, I love the food. I've never had bad food here. Bad service? Sure. They used to have older waitresses that were really awesome and great servers. In the past.. I don't know? 6 months? they've hired teenaged/20 something girls. The girls are cute, and sometimes you'll get a bubbly nice one. Other times, you'll get a girl who could care less about refilling your drink or taking your order. The service is hit and miss.
but the food? spot on.
I loveeeeeee the potatoes. some people say a breakfast place/diner is just the same as any other breakfast place/diner, I disagree. Cup N Saucer's food is way better than coco's/dennys and almost up to par with Bill's (ALMOST ;).

i'm all about supporting local businesses, so cup n saucer seems to fit that description, being the mom/ pop joint that it is, instead of say... getting breakfast food at ihop or dennys.  while their service wasn't particularly stellar, their tijuana souffle omelet was of decent proportion, and the last time i went here i tried 'the scramble' which was literally eggs scrambled with potatoes and lots and lots of bacon [.5 stars for more bacon, hooray!!], but they didn't remember that i didn't want sour cream [so... -.5 for not paying attention!].

i'm a little weirded out by the muffins they serve here though.  when i took a bite, it seemed to me that there's chunks of what tasted and looked like butter [like it wasn't incorporated well into the batter or something].

ps. sometimes it weirds me out being the only asians sitting in the diner, but maybe that's just me.

My mom, sister and I had a great breakfast here last weekend. I was a little nervous because our last Yelp breakfast trip was unsuccessful - but this place turned out to be a really good find!

Surprisingly enough, at 10AM on a Saturday there was no wait for a table. I think we must have just hit a sweet-spot in the day though because within about 10 minutes there was a crowd forming and for the rest of the time we were there we saw a lot of people waiting for a table. I almost felt bad savoring the food and taking our time with our meal... *almost*.

The apricot French Toast is AMAZING if you have a sweet tooth. I added banana to mine for an extra bit of fruity deliciousness. The baby sister had it straight up and it was great either way. The side of bacon we split was crispy and warm - not overly greasy like some smaller diners tend to do their bacon. The Mom had some egg scramble thing smothered in guacamole and sour cream that she just loved. We all split a piece of the great carrot walnut cake and enjoyed that with our never-empty cups of coffee. Yes, yes, I know, I didn't need the extra carbs in that cake after the french toast, but after having it at Los Gatos Cafe I knew it was good and wanted some more! (As people have said, these places must be affiliated because they have nearly identical menus).

The only con was that the orange juice wasn't that great - but seriously, that isn't much of a con is it?

We had no problem with the servers, even though they were definitely younger as other people have mentioned. All were super friendly, attentive and all-around provided a great breakfast experience. We will surely be back!

Went there Sunday afternoon with my g/f...first with the food....

--I had the philly steak sandwich with peppers, onions on white roll..it obviously comes with cheese but I don't like cheese ironically but it was still pretty tasty...for 9.50, you definitely get your money's worth..the portion was pretty big so make sure you bring your appetite for this meal..I got a side of onion rings with it...they were average but nothing to complain about

--it was a bit difficult to eat initially b/c the ingredients were falling off the bread..but i'd rather have too much steak than not enough...it also came with a pickle, which was a huge disappointment...it was squishy and plain nasty...but it's just one aspect of the order so no big deal

--my g/f ordered the daily special called the Artichoke potato scramble with pesto..she said it was yummy..big portion once again...came with choice of bread..she got a bran muffin of some sort..very warm and tasty

--overall pros: cleanliness, attentive friendly staff..good sized portions..definitely get your money's worth

cons: not many I can think of...I didn't like the pickle that came with my meal but that's just a small deduction

--conclusion: nice casual spot for any time of day meal..I would definitely recommend this place

If you're looking for an awesome breakfast place, eat here.  I've had lunch and dinner there too, and found those to be "so so" but breakfast is The Thing!  Coffee pots on the table, great service, huge servings, and no pressure to get you to leave when you're done - even though there is often a line of people waiting their turn on weekend mornings!

I used to go here all the time with my now-husband and kids when he was visiting us (he used to live down in southern California), but since he moved up, we're more likely to stay home.  Well, that and we're a bit more careful about the budget these days - eating out is a privilege not a right.  Of course, now I'm wanting to go again this weekend just 'coz I'm thinking about it.  Heh.

BTW, the Belgian waffles (with bananas, strawberries, whipped cream, and powdered sugar) are To Die For, especially when strawberries are in season!

Mmmmmm ... strawberries!

This place is good.
Good for breakfast, and pretty good for lunch or dinner.
It's your typical American food/diner joint with all of the standards.
The breakfast omelettes and quesadillas are good, but the two-egg breakfast is the best deal.
You may have to wait to get a seat on a weekend morning, but it won't be as long as the wait at the local IHOP and the food is much better.
The service is OK. Yes, most of the young waitresses are cute but sometimes seem apathetic and aloof.
Overall a good experience.

I really love this place! It has all of the elements a place like this should have. Hole-in-the-wall, you can't tell nothin' from the outside. Except when you finally check it out and discover what you have been missing all along.

I love everything about this place. Lazy Sunday morning......go in and sign yourself in. Choose "inside, outside, or either" and then go do the same to wait. It's busy on weekends.

Lots of people watching to be had at this typical suburban strip mall. I prefer to wait outside if the wind doesn't kill me.

For eating - outside is my first choice, followed by either then inside. I love their outdoor patio. Nice little tables with those standing heaters in case the weather is not perfect that day. Sits across from a jewelry store (bling!), although not much left in windows depending on when you are there. And then of course, quintessential parking lot view. I love it! Inside can get you a comfy booth. They have since added on and put in a new room. I have never sat in there though.

Food - I would imagine everything is good here. I've had some of this and that and it's all good. Large, homemade style portions and yes, gimme that coffeecake puhleeze as soon as you can! YUMMY! I often settle on the Spinach Gorgonzola Scramble. It's 3 eggs loaded with gorgonzola, spinach and mushrooms; way more than I can eat, and comes with the house yummy potatoes. Bring it on!

Or, I might get one of the terrific french toast, pancake or waffle offerings of the day with fresh fruit of the season, or maybe a fill it yourself omelet; too many great choices!

Oh yes, and they leave a carafe of coffee at your table so you can sit and laze and stuff yourself and not have to wait for them to keep checking on your coffee. Not that the service is bad, because just the opposite -

The other thing I love here- Great Service with a Smile! Friendly servers and what must be (I'm assuming) the owner, always at the podium. Another plus for me; this is a family owned business that has been in the community a long time.

Anyway, breakfast here is a treat! I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Okay, first note:  Very clean!  Our waitress was also very efficient.  She was attentive without being obtrusive.

DH ordered the meat omelet and said it was good.  He did follow up his comment by making it clear that for him, omelet's are safe.

I ordered Eggs Benedict.  The eggs were nicely poached.  The Canadian Bacon was very thick sliced and had a very strong, almost imitation flavor smoke to it.  It overpowered, so I pulled that out.  The English muffins were a bit off.  It seemed that the butter/margarine/cooking oil on the muffins was old.  All this was covered in Hollandaise sauce.

Again, I must ask the question of breakfast places:  Is it truly that hard to make and hold a Hollandaise from scratch?  IMHO, it really isn't that hard and it delivers a superior sauce (see my review of Los Gatos cafe for Blender Hollandaise 1-2-3.  Yummy!)

Their promoted great potatoes were just potatoes.  Cubes of grilled potatoes.  Very little or no seasoning and no inclusions like onions.  A bit boring IMHO.

All in all, if we were in the area again and there was no other places in the area we want to try, I think we might go back, but we wouldn't go out of our way.

I love this little hole-in-the-wall.

We go there a few times a month. We actually drive 10 minutes on the freeway to go there. It's worth going out of our way.

I have always found the service very good. Most of the waitresses are younger, slightly "alternative" looking, which I find cool. They always have a nice word to say and are very agreeable whenever I forget to ask to have my sandwich grilled (which I've done a few times - sorry girls!). They make going there a better experience than going to say, a Denny's or something. Service makes all the difference to me.

We mainly sit inside, but once in a while, we sit outside, and both are fine. Our waitress has never forgotten about us either way.

The bathrooms aren't too bad. I would like to see them a little cleaner, but I am a clean freak. The decor in there is nice. They have two separate unisex bathrooms that are wheelchair friendly.

Now the food -

The portions are large for the price. The price is reasonable.

Breakfasts are nummy. I usually get the french toast and my guy gets either the build-your-own omlet or one of the eggs on top of potatoes things. They are both good. For lunch, I get the turkey and basil sandwich, but I get it grilled. Yum. I get the french fries and they are good, especially if I ask for them to be done extra crispy.

I am always too full to try their fresh-baked desserts, but someday I will get around to it.

One thing that is nice and unusual for booth-type seating. There is actually plenty of room between you and the table. And if you sit on the right side (if you turn left when you walk in), the tables are not bolted and you can move them to make more or less room on each side.

The only negative thing I can say is that all of their chicken breast dishes are a bit too peppery for me. You can see the pepper on the breast and when I asked if I could order it without pepper, I was told they came that way. Ah well, you can't have everything.

This place is down the street from my parents' house and next to the Mervyn's at Princeton Plaza.  They have indoor and outdoor seating, although I'd recommend the indoor seating since it's harder to forget about you if you're inside the building.

The food's ok, we've gone for breakfast mostly, they're not the quickest or the best deal in town, but hey, if it's a block from your house, you might want to check it out.

Good breakfast joint, but leave the other meals alone.  Great omlette menu with other great breakfasts are available.  A family favorite is the copenhagen, which are three crepes rolled and filled with a raspberry cream-ish sauce thing and then covered with that, powdered sugar and slivered almonds.  Good stuff.

It's family friendly and a cute little hole in the wall, but it's nothing special.  It beats the Cardinal, by far, in terms of quality (their raspberry coffee cake is pretty darn good), but the quantity isn't as much and the environment is a tad bland.

Try it for yourself.  It's not bad.

We had dinner here last night, and it was not a pleasant experience.

The waitress apparently had six friends visiting in a booth, and was very annoyed if she had to break away from them to wait on anyone else.  She had to come back twice to make sure she had our order correct.  I suppose we were fortunate that she didn't spill food on us, as she did to another customer.

The kitchen is very, very slow.  The food was unremarkably bland, with nothing to recommend a return visit.

This is about my 4th visit here, and now they have reached a low point where they deserve a One Star rating.  I'm outta here for good !!

After a big party at my former apartment in San Jose, my buddy who stayed the night woke us all up at around 11AM (reasonable time... I guess) to get "breakfast".  I was still REALLY tired but I the roommates said I HAD to go there.  They finally got me off my bed and we headed out, bed hair and all.

It felt like the longest drive in the world but we finally got into the small parking lot.  It looked pretty busy so I was still complaining about them waking me up for food.  It actually didn't take as long as I thought to get seated and we all ordered omelettes.

OH MAN THE MUFFINS ARE GOOD... or whatever they were.  OMELETTES? WHERE?  All I ate there was big gigantic food plate.  I was so full.  The whole time we were there... the four or five of us (can't remember) were mumbling with our mouths full "oh man, so good..." "can't stop eating..."

I still wonder why I never went back.  Maybe it's because I keep thinking it's really far away.

One of the few decent breakfast places in South San Jose. The omelettes and scrambles are really good and you can get them with Hobees-syle coffeecake. The outside seating is nice. The restaurant gets 3.5 stars for the food and the remainder of the 4th star for being a decent restaurant in South San Jose.

However, it really isn't worth a special trip to come here unless you are in the area. Hobees is much better and if it is closer to you, by all means go there instead.

This place is a nice little joint to bring family and friends to. The atmosphere and the staff make it very comfortable. The food is pretty good. My brother (a self labeled Eggs Benedict connoisseur) loves theirs, although he normally substitutes bacon for the traditional Canadian bacon.

They have a delicious carrot cake loaf that comes with lunch and dinner entrees.

The wait is never too long unless maybe you go on a weekend morning but if its in season you can put your name on the waiting list and head over to the Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings.

I love the omelets and the salads are normally pretty good. I have a friend who really likes their French Toast Sandwich (not actually a sandwich). I haven't had their lunch fare.

We have been eating here for about 9 years.
I love this place. We ate here BK ( before kids) and still come ( AK) after kids.
Inside and outside seating.
The waitresses are great ...Bridget is our fav!!!
The kid menu is great. They always have amazing specials. not to mention hands down the best hollandaise( no damn lemon taste to it)

Another plus- DOG friendly( when sitting outside).

Plus when you order breakfast...the crumb cake or muffin that you get served with breakfast ( they are so good!)

Great BREAKFAST place. The is a weekly stop for me and my husband.

It is a typical dinner, same servers for years, same buss boys for years. They are all friendly and they deal with the morning rush very well. The wait can be 2min to 45min. People will wait this long for breakfast....crazy.

We love it and think that is beats any other place in the area.

I've been going to this place for a long time. They recently got remodeled and I can't say I like it too much. The new seats are not very comfortable and the waitresses are not that friendly as they used to be. The breakfast still kicks ass. Omlettes and pancakes are always good, my favorite being the flank steak breakfast.

Very small and easily over looked, but it is a great find. I went here with my girlfriend because she had been here before. I was very surprised with the variety of food on the menu. We were there for breakfast, so I didn't look at much else. The service was good and the food was very good as well.

Just had lunch at this place.  There aren't too many Mom & Pop coffee shop type restaurants left anymore so it was good to find the Cup N Saucer.    I had the soup, salad and a sandwich with fries, all were good ol' American style - nothing fancy but good fresh ingredients prepared well.  The salad even came with chilled plate and fork.   The waitress didn't seem to be having a good day but she soldiered through just fine.  I'll bet breakfast is good here.
