Dr. Cudahy has the qualities I need in a doctor - she's fast, sarcastic and likes to medicate.  Medicate in a good way, though.

I still don't know how to pronounce her name, but that's not the point..  I like to go to the doctor.  I'm not a hypochondriac, but I think doctor visits are fun.  You get to talk about yourself.  Who doesn't love that?

Dr. Cudahy keeps my ass in check.  I need a doctor that will tell me exactly what I need to do.  I like a little dominance.

And I must say that I found her through Yelp.  Good job, Yelpers!

I'm coming from Midway - orange line, distance is pretty far but I don't mind distance much. Beautiful structured building.

Okay let's get down to business. I read all of these great reviews and thought I'd have an outstanding experience but it was just "meh." I came to see her because I needed to get a check-up for my nursing class.

I can think of several things I disliked.

When the Dr. proceeded to enter, she knocked and entered 1-2 seconds afterward. As a nursing student, I was taught to pause for several seconds and wait for a response before entering.
(I was undressing!)

Secondly, when examining the boobage, I felt uncomfortable when she peered down twice at my belly piercing, slightly awkward.

Thirdly, when filling out my immunization information, she either forgot or missed recording my TB shot. I came back to her office a 2nd time after I had blood withdrawn down the hall, and pointed it out - nurse filled it in. (I realize people make mistakes, but my immunization records were right in front of her, c'mon now.)

When speaking to her, she asked me to repeat things in a way that made me feel as though I spoke to softly or I didn't make any sense.
I spoke up pretty loud and clear.

I was in the room for about 10-20 minutes, not enough to get to know a patient I don't think. -shrug-

Don't get me wrong, the Dr. was very nice as were the nurses, but, meh. I'm gonna try to get with Dr. Maria Reyes or Dr. Suh.

Thanks everyone.

SO.
After a month and 2 weeks of waiting, I get my test results.  Sort of.

How did I pull off this miracle?  I ended up having to call every 2 hours, from the time they opened until they closed.  Psychobitch tactic?  Probably.  But that's just absurd.

Cherry on top of the cake is that they "lost" 4 of my tests.  Lost them.  Not in the computer.

Sure are on the bill I got from their 3rd party lab.  So that's pretty rad.

Please, ladies, go somewhere else.

Thanks to Yelpers, I narrowed down my choices for a new physician and made an appointment with Dr. Cudahy.  (You can request an appointment online!  I received my second choice of day and first choice of time, yay!

The good Doctor is kind, patient, easy to talk to, and definitely not condescending.  She has a sense of humor, too.  She was on time, thorough, asked the appropriate questions, did a good-enough physical for my needs, AND performed the yearly female exam.  What a blessing to have found a GP, allergist, and ob/gyn all in one!

Office is in a glass-fronted building on Halsted and the lab for blood work is conveniently just down the hall.  (Wish it were just a little closer to the el... )

The only negative would be that her assistant was less than pleasant and did not smile once, but I didn't have to deal with her for long and it would not stop me from going back.  I felt comfortable with Dr. Cudahy and, based upon my first visit, would recommend her highly.

She is great. She has treated me in and out of the hospital. I left Chicago for a while, but when I came back I requested her again. She is nice, easy going and very professional.
I'm sad that I am now leaving Chicago again and won't have her as my primary.

Dr. Cudahy is a dream come true. She is both my mother's and my primary care physician.

Dr. Cudahy became my physician around the time when I was having full blown panic attacks. She was incredibly understanding and sympathetic and made me feel a lot less crazy than I felt.

My mom had just moved to Chicago and didn't have a primary care doctor but was exhibiting some erratic behavior and was having trouble with her memor. I brought my mother in to see Dr. Cudahy, who concluded that she was likely experiencing the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. Dr. C referred us to the nurologists at Northwestern - telling us that she believed in sending patients to the best resources in the city - she rattled off the resources that exist for cancer patients and heart problems and promised me that Northwestern was the place for alzheimer's care.

Later, my mother had some back related problems - with a herniated disk and after initially taking her to an emergency room in the west 'burbs, I called Dr. C and she walked me through getting my mom into Masonic so that she could personally check up on her.

Since then, we both have annual check-ups with Dr. Cudahy and both my mother and I are huge fans. My mom gets excited about her doctor's appointments, and I'm just relieved to be going to someone who I trust so much.

Not to mention she's insanely smart, down to earth, and a wonderful (and empathetic) human being. WE LOVE HER!!!

I've been shopping around for a primary care physician for awhile, and am pleased to have finally found Dr. Cudahy.  Her location in East Lakeview is great, such that in the event that I need to hobble to the doctor from my house on a sick day, I can do so without significant effort.  The facility is nice, and is associated with a highly ranked hospital, and her office is one door down from the lab facility.

Even better, Dr. Cudahy is an internist, which therefore means I don't need to go to an additional lady doctor, which is great since I'm not having a baby anytime soon and really don't need an OB.  She is comfortably chatty, and was interested in both my medical history and my personal history/mental health, and made me feel quite relaxed and trusting.  What I found important was that she was non-judgmental - I hate having to brace myself for a reprimand when you're answering such questions as "how much do you drink on a given night" and "are you sexually active," but she was very open and understanding.

Oh!  Lastly, Illinois Masonic has a pretty good website, so you can see her profile online, as well as book your appointment through a web app.  The people in their scheduling department were also quite kind and accommodating, and were able to get me an appointment post-working hours!

I found Dr. Cudahy through Yelp, and I'm really glad I did. She told me everything I needed to know and explained medical terms and medicines in a way anyone could understand.  She gave me options and we discussed my health in a way that made me feel like I had a say in how we went forward. Dr. Cudahy explained what blood work she was ordering and why they were important. That's a big deal to since I'll have to shell out $125 for the tests since I'm uninsured (a 'self-pay patient'). At least I'll fork it over knowing what I'm paying for and why it is essential. The appointment cost me $120 plus the cost of tests. Overall, I recommend Dr. Cudahy.
