The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful always.
I always get a Philadelphia roll and a tuna avocado roll and I'm delighted with how good it tastes every time.
Ehh.... their food was ok.
I passed by here and it seemed pretty popular so stopped in.
Had their thai version of roti. Tasted like a regular roti canai with a slight spicy kick to it.The dish came with a little bowl of sugar, which I didn't understand why it was there... and neither did the waitress when I asked her about it.The roti itself wasn't special. The sauce was tasty and the chicken in it was cooked unbelievably good (I've never had a piece of chicken cooked so well!) The chicken was tasty and not dry at all. The potato in it.. well it was kinda undercooked....
I had their Roll Combo with an Eel Avocado Roll, Tuno Avocado and Spicy Salmon as an entree. Spicy Salmon I give a double thumbs up - excellent job with that! The other two..... not so much. The eel avocodao roll was pretty sweet tasting, but not thoroughly deboned since I had a chunk of bone in mine! The tuno avocado roll tasted quite bitter... which is very strange... I think if I ever decide to come back, I'll have to try some other rolls.
My friend had their pineapple fried rice, served in a HUGE pinapple as a bowl. It was quite tasty, but in my opinion, it's quite hard to mess up any kind of friend rice.
The decor looks quite sleek and comfortable, the wait staff is quite nice and the food didn't take too long to come out. It wasn't amazing to me, but then again maybe I should have tried a different roll.
Good Sushi, great service, nice decor, and BYOB, so 4 stars it is.
The Volcano Roll was fabulous- spicy and filling, the lobster tempura roll was solid, but nothing to blow your mind- both were $10 each.
I'd go back because it's around the corner from my place, and definitely solid, but I still feel like there's better sushi out there.
Now closed. Kinda sad. Maybe I should have gone there more than once. (LONG LIVE HIBINO!!!!!)

Very cute, casual sushi place. Good presentation, fresh fish, hearty udon soup. Totally better than… Read more »
Just received the WORST news.... closed. Where else can I get such friendly service & such fresh & delicious sushi in the hood??!! RIP Cube 63, you'll be missed.
Its not mind blowing sushi but everything was fresh and tasty. I tried a few basic rolls and it hit the spot cause I didn't want to spend a lot of money but I wanted sushi. It wasn't crowded and the place is cozy. I'll be going back for sure for a quick sushi craving. My only complaint was that they didn't have any inexpensive sake, everything was really pricey.
My friends and I decided to try Cube63 late on a Thursday night. It was about 10 pm, and there were only two other tables in the restaurant. The service was VERY attentive - our water glasses never came near the halfway empty mark.
We all ordered our usual sushi things. Miso soup, edamame. My friends ordered rolls. There's an interesting roll topped with rare steak. When she asked me if she should order that special, I warned that oftentimes when sushi goes too far astray from its intended simplistic form, it could turn out not as great as it sounds on the menu. Duly warned, she ordered the roll anyway and then ended up removing the steak bits from the rest of the rolls.
Alone, the steak tasted great. I ended up adding it to my Chirashi plate. I usually order the Chirashi when I go to a new place, so I can try to get a sense of the quality of their fish. This Chirashi was great! The portion is small. You only get the sea bass, red tuna, salmon, mackerel, and one piece of shrimp. Still, the quality met the bar, and it was satisfying.
People may say the prices are a bit steep. Actually, the prices are the same as other sushi places, but it's the portions that are smaller.
I'd come here again, but maybe for special-er occasion than "just in the mood for sushi." For that, I'd just hop over to Shinjuku (three minutes from my apt). And for romantic dates, I'd go to Ki Sushi. Cube63 falls in between. Don't hype it up, and it satisfies.
Goal of the evening was to gather for a friends visit from out of town, drink some wine and enjoy good food. Cue in 6 of his college buddies plus my 2 other friends and we decided that a BYOB sushi place would be the perfect place to start. BYOB in our eyes also means that every person is required to bring a bottle. Good thing Cube 63 offered this(BYOB here =champagne and wine only) with wine openers at our beckon call and a wait staff that kept muttering under their breaths that we were party animals. I hope you see where this is going.
Rather then ask for personal orders we decided on a "Chef Special" aka---bring out what you can for $40 a person and we'll go from there. Miso soup was delicious. A fresh sampling of sushi and sashimi. (About 12 pieces) Another sampling of rolls plus all of the wine = stuffed tummy for Kristin. BUT IT WAS SO GOOD.
Surprisingly the staff handled our large (and LOUD) crowd that went through all of the bottles of wine like it was water. Everything we asked for we got including extra rolls for the hungry boys.(Wasn't me this time I swear) Champagne opening for the celebratory toast (I don't know who we think we are) and a final game of someone's going to cover the check. (I'm not going to discuss this one further)
Great for large groups although we DID show up at 9 on a rainy Friday. If it was mid week and the same crowd, it could be a bit different but they were very accommodating AND take reservations---they also don't mind if you show up 30 minutes late to your reservation. Or, so I've heard. (Oops)
Either way, the important thing is the sushi and the sushi was great. Fresh. Good sized and brought out with great service. Will definitely be coming back but will probably stick to a smaller crowd and less bottles.
The sushi was excellent, and I highly recommend trying the Tako Balls for an appetizer.
If you want to sit outside don't wear a mini shirt cause you might be sitting crosslegged!
They did not mind us bringing our own wine, so there was more money to spend on food!
This place is not bad and very easy on the wallet esp the lunch menu. I had no problems with the quality of fish which seemed fresh. Maybe Sandra C has a weak stomach. The waitress was very attentive and the restaurant is very tastefully designed. I had the roll combio with a spicy tuna roll and yellow tail roll. My friend had the tonkatsu which was vey tasty as well.
***Update 6/10/07***
Over the last couple weeks Cube has been having some really damn good fish. In fact, the otoro has been among the best I've had. It's sick. I would say the fish has moved to 4/5 stars.
-----------------
The food alone might be a bit shy of four stars, but the overall experience is certainly worth it. It looks like a random goofy fusion place from the outside, but once you sit down it is a great place to eat. The staff is _extremely_ friendly, the set-up is comfortable, and the prices are reasonable.
The lunch specials are fantastic and it is always empty, so you can talk to the staff and feel like an insider or something. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar.
As for the fish... it is more like a 3.5/5. Some of the items are excellent, e.g. amaebi, but others don't quite get there. The biggest disappointment is always the otoro. It is tasty, of course, but never seems to deliver the velvet texture or depth of flavor that otoro should have. If you stick to the "normal" items you will be fine.
Highly recommended.
I had an underwhelming meal here, and have since avoided it in favor of Ki. Cube 63 is an obvious step up from the all-you-can-eat type places in the neighborhood, but not my first choice.
Cube 63's Brooklyn location is a great find. Good sushi, fantastic decor, and a garden dining area in the back. And, unlike the Manhattan location, it's got plenty of space. No longer BYOB.
I've been meaning to check this place out for a while... I finally went last night and was surprised by the nice newly renovated backyard, great spacious seating area for larger parties if you don't mind taking off your shoes and sitting Indian style - although there is regular seating as well. I am really picky about the freshness of my sushi and while the presentation of the food was fine it wasn't the freshest. It's a fine alternative if you are tired of the other sushi places in the hood.
I'm resistant to restaurants that have numbers in their name. I'm not sure why. Maybe the mid 90's music scene killed the concept for me. Kerosene 454 and Die 116 led to things like Matchbox 20 and Blink 182. It doesn't make sense, and I realize this. Well, I will no longer make assumptions now that I've tried the Udon here. I ordered the seafood Udon and it came with a healthy dose of crab, shrimp, scallops, and I believe, fish cakes. It was tasty and I felt a little bad that I keep walking past this place. Though I was amazed that the former toy store that inhabited the space didn't have nearly the space burrowed out of this seemingly small location. It was very comfortable and relaxed and the back is way more chill than the pod chairs up front would indicate. The fish itself might not get the love the Udon did. The tuna wasn't as amazingly fresh as I've had. I'd give it a 3.5 for the fish and a solid 4 for the Udon.
