I was fortunate enough to be here when Gary Vaynerchuk filmed his 500th episode live.  Let the good times pour!  All of the staff was very friendly and informative about their favorite wines.  There was also an interesting mix of wine aficionados.  I can't wait to go back.

We walked into CrushPad not really knowing what to expect except that it was a free barrel tasting and walked out full of wine, mexican food and chocolate! I had a great time even though I leaned on the sign-up table and down it went :/ and I hadn't even started drinking!

Basically they take you through the entire process of making your very own wine...how rad is that? All the way down to the design of the bottle! If you've got the dough (ranging from $5,700 to $10,900 (or about $19 to $36 per bottle varying on the vineyard you select)) you can create a custom barrel of wine which is 25 cases.

The community crush idea is so awesome you'd think I came up with it! (yes...i went there).

This DIY winery has the best events! The peeps here are so nice. They are currently doing winemaking by the neighborhood. So you can meet your neighbors and make your own wine, all for the price of one bottle of wine that you make: $19! Love it! Love this place. I'm serious. Check this place out.

We just visited Crushpad's open house to check it out.  Thinking about going in on a barrel with some friends, and thought the party sounded like fun!
It was!  The 05 syrah, the pinot, the cab and the chardonnay were beautiful.  I really enjoyed meeting the people behind this business.  Also enjoyed the fabulous taco truck, cooler with the slideshow, and fun and friendly atmosphere...
This is a unique company with a great idea.  My only complaint is that it is rather pricey, but from what I understand, it may just be worth it!

This was the second year we attended the Open House. Last year we drove in from Moss Beach and had to dive in to get small slivers of cheese and bread before the plate evaporated as if locusts had been there (Including us!)
BUT....THIS YEAR it was far more civilized with two taco trucks  (one at the rear door and one on the front sidewalk at the 3rd Street entrance.)  The organizers, wiser from the last year  - where folks brought their palettes and their appetites, this time, as you entered, they gave you an empty wine glass and some food tickets so you could sip and dine at your own leisure and the food distribution  was far more orderly.

      I loved the Barrel Dude { Wine barrel worn by suspenders and nothing else(?) .... }
I did not peek, but I was tempted! I'm sure other girls did!

Oh, and did I mention the wine was, once again, great?

What a great business plan and idea.  Make a trendy wine and savor it for the next 10+ years.  The staff is great and always guides you in the right direction whether you're in the know or a rookie.  Their events are outstanding (especially Mash-up) and I have yet to be disappointed yet.  The wine can be expensive, but it includes all the perks of being involved as much as you want in the process and all the little events.

I've been involved with two wines to date, a 2006 Cab from Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa and 2007 Zin from Grist Vineyard in Dry Creek.  Both are outstanding and continue to get better over time.  Looking forward to making wine for many years to come.

What a fabulous thing to do with a group of friends.  Wine snobs, wanna be wine snobs and the just plain curious are welcome.

The staff is incredible, they never make you feel foolish even if you are the 137th person to ask how long you should lay your rotgut down before it is ready to drink.

Follow their advice and a very drinkable wine is guaranteed.  This is not the place to learn the finer points of oenology, at least not for my group.  But if you want to create a nice wine , with your own label to share with friends and family, this is the place.

We are involved with the 2007 Vayniac Cab Sauv and CrushPad is the real deal!! The experience, the people (Stu and Michael, Thank YOU!!)...everything about this place is top-notch. The Vaynernation is making a 20-barrel lot of Cabernet Sauvignon from 4 different vineyards in Napa and we are all having an AMAZING experience. If you have ever dreamed of being your own winemaker, then this is the place to do it!

A group of us got together to make a barrel of wine - isn't that cool? Plus I've joined a few other groups for a case here and there. Since I'm in the area on a business trip, I took the opportunity to tour the facility.

Lots of fruit coming in right now, more on the way, it's harvest time, and it's chaos. Barely even controlled chaos. And yet I am really impressed with their facility - the whole notion of bringing wine to the people, being able to affordably mass customize via small lots (single barrel!), and involving the average joe in the process ... that's innovative. And a logistical nightmare!

In spite of the chaos, the folks here were nice enough to take the time to give us a tour, show us the various stages, walk us through a few barrel samples. Great stuff.

5 stars ... and I don't even have the wine yet!

Was at Crushpad's happening open house.

Yes, a brilliant idea: bringing wine making to the amature.

Our group that enjoys monthly wine tasting together considered for one minute on a potential vino joint venture, but then the idea of being stuck with 300 bottles that we all had to agree on...didn't fly.

Random thought: something not right about a place where you can plunk down $4K+ for a barrel of wine, hop on the light rail, and stop at 3 public housing projects en route...

Welcome to SF!

The creators of Crushpad couldn't be nicer people... eager and willing to help you create your very own wine.  I had the complete process explained to me by Jon Brill who also gave me and my friend a taste from his own barrel of wine ~ delicious!  It's a fabulous idea for wine enthusiasts looking for a hobby but it does run on the pricey side and I don't know how many enthusiasts have the patience to wait the requisite years... a trip to Sonoma or Napa could yield almost the same experience albeit the ego-boosting personal label.  Still... when I hit it rich (note I said when, not if), I'll be there deliberating over grenache or cabernet sauvignon...

In its unassailable pursuit of perfection, the only thing missing from this unique location is a harem of diminutive women to stomp on grapes barefoot while musing about the French resistance. Crush Pad is the only city-based vineyard specializing in custom winemaking. Pick your fruit, select your taste and character preferences, customize your cork, bottle and label and let them do the rest. With 12 months and $5,000 to spare, you can produce 300 outstanding bottles of your wine---Domaine Moi.

I've made a 2005 Pinot from Russian River and got hooked...I'm onto a 2006 Pinot from Anderson Valley. It's a great way to learn about the process of winemaking firsthand. Everybody there is really helpful from the winemakers to the cellar rats. If you dream of actually selling your own wine as well, they've got a setup for that, too. It would be great if they had a tasting bar for customers to pour their wines and interact w/other wine geeks or newbies alike. Trust me, I'm happy to drink at home, but it's fun to ponder and muse with birds of a feather...

This is the real thing, a successful, complete urban do-it-yourself winery run by ex dot com wine lovers.  Here you make your own high quality wine, and depending on your inclination your involvement can range from fire-and-forget (they'll email you for an executive decision if there is a choice to make) to full winemaker -- you can visit one of their many associated vineyards (many of which are sources for the most famous wines), tell them when and how to pick, invite your friends to sort and crush the grapes, etc.  By the time you're done you or your syndicate have a barrel (about 300 bottles) of first rate wine that runs you 1/2 to 1/3 of the price of equivalent store-bought wine.  Still no bargain though.  If you showed up in Napa Valley with enough money to buy 300 bottles you could do the same without all the effort or the 2-3 year wait.  So it's mainly about the love.  Added bonus: it's a great networking spot if you don't like the yacht club.  You'll meet all kinds of semi-famous people, business leaders, etc.
