Review from G S.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a total cake fiend. So much so that 50 Cent probably should have said, "I love you like G.S. loves cake".
That said, I happened upon Crumbs of Paris during my search for my daughter's birthday cake last year. I had tried to contact my first two choices, but the first didn't do sculptured cakes, and the second didn't have the decency to even respond to my email. Then I found Crumbs of Paris and was I ever-so-glad I did. I emailed back and forth with Fernando, the owner, and he was so quick and polite and willing to work with my ideas. When I went into the store to finally submit the official order, I worked with Gigi and she was just as nice as Fernando. We were in and out in a matter of minutes. The following week, I went to pick up the cake and it was even better than I had imagined. It looked great and tasted fantastic! All of the guests LOVED it!
A year later and it's time for another birthday cake. Foolishly, I decided to try the vendor who ignored me last year, only to be ignored again this year (if you search my reviews, you can read more about that). That clearly did not work out, so I decided to go with COP again. This year, my idea is even more wacky, but so far the staff has been so great to work with! The party isn't for a few weeks, so I'll have to update my review for taste. But I'm sure it will be just as good. -

YUM.
The cakes here are not the cheapest on the planet, but they're not rediculous either. I have only had birthday cakes from here. I highly recommend trying their hazelnut carrot cake. It was absolutely delicious. -

I called the day before a bachelorette party and ordered a cake with an upright penis standing on it. Not only did the girl not laugh at me, but she also took my order, didn't charge me for the last minute rush, offered to get it delivered to me the next day rather than me rushing to East County to pick it up, priced it out, charged my card and thanked me for the business, and all within 4 minutes.
I've had better cakes: this was kinda tall (ie. lots of cake). Also since I didn't give direction about decor, they did a really plain decor on it. (I've seen them do nicer cakes). In addition, it was $70 for the cake, a little more than I wanted to pay, but they only do a minimum size for the cakes with special things on it, like the penis. But the penis was on it, and that was the most important part.
They took my frantic last minute hysteria, calmed me down and took care of my problem and made me look like a rock star.
THANK YOU CRUMBS OF PARIS! -

I knew I loved this place but decided to get a small bday cake for my good friends bday this past week! I normally tend to gravitate toward anything chocolate or carrot cake but they decided on the Biscuit de Savoie cake instead. Cake soaked with passion fruit with bananas, kiwi and strawberry in the middle! holy crap it was good! got the buttercream frosting.....Word!
Small round cake that feeds 6-8 will run you $25...square version is $30. well worth it!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I recently purchased a cake for my boyfriends birthday in the shape of a guitar. When I picked it up it was alot smaller then I expected and fed no where near the 30 people it was suppose to. Thank God I waited to serve the cake until half the party had cleared out for the night. It was a nice theme cake, but looked slapped together and there were alot of smudges in the frosting and design work. The cake itself was very delicious but for the $85.00 I paid for it, I would have gone somewhere else.

We got our wedding cake here. The cake was beautiful and tasted great but it was delivered an hour late. We planned our wedding from the east coast so it was a little difficult. We did the cake tastings early but it took many many reminder phone calls and about four months before they actually sent our contract. We had a very hard time getting our calls or emails returned and every time we called they never seemed to have our information. Made me a little nervous. The only thing they did efficiently was cash the check. The service was terrible but the product and the price were great. I would not recommend them to anyone.

I might change this rating AFTER the wedding, but I am appalled with them at this time. We made an appt. for a cake tasting in January. I went back today (June 27th) to give them a color swatch for the icing. THEY HAD NOTHING ABOUT MY ORDER IN THEIR BOOKS! The lady from January hadn't written down the flavors we wanted, the shape, anything!I was understandably upset, and the SAME lady was rude to me and made me feel as if it were my fault. Thank goodness for Ashley at the front desk; she's the ONLY reason they kept my business.
UPDATE: My wedding cake turned out wonderfully. It was decorated exactly the way I asked and many guests complimented the flavor. Once again, Ashley at the front desk made sure my order (the second time) was taken accurately. The older woman: rude and irresponsible. Watch out if she is the one helping you! -

good cake for a good price.
after all the other costs that came w/ the wedding, i couldn't stomach the idea of paying more than a few dollars for a slice of cake per guest (we had just a shade under 200). CoP provided has a decent variety of flavors and designs.
our experience w/ them for our wedding was almost perfect. being the indecisive bride i was, i stopped in there a month before the wedding and asked to make one simple change to the cake (to remove the squiggly lines in the design). well, the person who helped me merely put an "X" through one side of the cake sketch and assured me the bakers would know what that means. well, the cake was beautiful, but it still had the squiggly lines on it.
they recreate the cake top for you for free on your one year anniversary which is great bc our top layer didn't last even until our honeymoon :p the idea of freezing it and then breaking it out a full year later to "celebrate" didn't quite appeal to us.
i would recommend them. they aren't the fanciest, but it tasted good (and really, don't you remember the cake at weddings only when it takes BAD?) and it didn't break the bank by any means. -

I've had their cake twice now -- once at a wedding, and again this past weekend at a baby shower. OMG the taste was DELICIOUS and the design was SO CUTE! A bit too much frosting for my taste, but the cake itself was divine. Looking forward to using them for my baby shower!!

These guys did our wedding cake and it was super awesome! So helpful, great suggestions for it. One of the great things they do for your first anniversary is give you a lovely little cake in whatever flavor you want...wahoo! No more saving the cake and it never tastes the same! They're terrific!

Hey they did my wedding cake in 2004. It tasted great but wasn't decorated at all. I think it sucks they skipped out with people's money though. Sue the bastards there has to be a record on file on who own the business and sue them. Or call Turko from KUSI it ain't right!!!

So the Crumbs of Paris website says they are relocating, but yelpers say they're closed...? I hope this is not the case! Crumbs has done the groom's cakes for myself and two friends' weddings. Their flavors are not especially gourmet and the storefront is a tiny little shop in El Cajon- but they are total experts at creating fabulous themed cakes. They customized the groom's cake for my wedding, which was poker themed and truely a work of art. It looked whimsical and fabulous, I have friends who are still raving about it. The cake inside was fresh (they custom baked an oreo cake and filling) and the outside was rolled fondant (to accomadate the decorations). Prices were unbelievably reasonable and they delivered on time (our venue was across town in Del Mar). I would not necessarily recommend them for a wedding cake as their cakes are not very gourmet or refined, but they are total experts at creating themed cakes.

Sure, the cake is wonderful, but how much does that matter if the bakery is unreliable? we ordered our wedding cake from CoP a year ago- they delivered it 2 hours early when no one was around to turn on the air-conditioning, they left it sitting in the sun, and without the cake stand I spent lots of $$ to rent (despite the fact that the girl called me 5 times to confirm that I really wanted to rent the cake stand). Today I went to pick up our free anniversary cake, only to find the placed closed for lunch- something you think they should've mentioned when they asked what time I wanted to pick up the cake and I told them noon!! Sitting in my car for an hour wasn't an option, so now I am stuck with no anniversary cake and just a faint memory of how yummy the cake was at the wedding.

Crumbs of Paris made our wedding cake and it was AMAZING!! All my guest complimented on how it was the best cake they had ever had! Very moist with alot of flavor. I highly recommend the pistachio!! And at our 1 year anniversary, we get another cake (top) FREE!!
