7 reviews for Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach
We signed up for their Priority Club and was given 4 free drink tickets for their lounge. Perfect way to start our stay!
I'm pretty sure we got the best room in the house. Room 1100 - top floor, closest to the beach, sunset view side. ;) Nice.
The rooms must have been remodeled because everything was nice and new. Sterile white duvet cover made us feel OK with sitting on the bed. Nice pillows and furniture too. Only 2 small glitches with our room - the shower curtain wasn't wide enough to fit across the shower and the A/C leaked water onto the balcony.
We enjoyed dinner at C Street ($$$) Friday night and had the chance to meet the Exec Chef twice during our stay - great guy. The pool was heated and had an abundance of fresh, clean towels. Even though we had a non-smoking room, smoke did drift in from those hackers on their balconies. And this hotel is a bit on the noisy side with the train coming through at all hours, partiers coming back from downtown Ventura clubs, and the maids. Yep, I said, "Maids." Noisy little crew they are! Seems as though as clean rooms in groups of 3 and yak, yak, yak the whole time. I woke up Saturday morning thinking I was in Mexico.
The elevators are tricky (and slow) - one did go out of service during our visit. (They also don't have service elevators so you'll be riding with the laundry often.) And we couldn't understand why the best view at the top of the hotel on the 12th BayView Floor was being used as a conference room and not as a lounge or restaurant. Seems like that would make this place a better destination.

Going downhill. They charge for parking. Ok. No free breakfast. Ok. AND they are charging for internet now? Cmon! Leave no fee uncharged I guess. Older facility. Elevators seem to malfunction often. Crappy pool.
Good food in the restaurant. Great location near beach and downtown.

Stellar staff, good job guys!
The regular rooms are too small and pretty uncomfortable. The parking lot is in a disconnected parking structure which has many of the levels blocked off. Its puzzling. And inconvenient. The boardwalk area and the downtown were a bit dicey. Homeless and mohawked overage orphans roaming the streets with '40's. It wasn't a "family" town.
On the last nighth there was a prom in the hotel - teenagers with hotel rooms - frightening.
The suites are very nice and worth visitng.
If you want a professional, efficient, courteous staff to help you plan your event, don't have it here.
We had our event here in 2006 and it was not a pleasant experience.
We called a few years later to see if they had changed their ways, but we found after checking around, that they are still the unfriendly, unhelpful, inefficient staff they were in 2006.

Boooo. Yuck. Please, never come here.
What moron thought that guests would enjoy lugging their suitcases across a gated parking lot. A parking lot that hotel guests must pay $10 for the privilege of using. I thought that the near empty lot must have been because it was off-season, but it turns out that other people had just avoided this stink-bomb like the plague.
The small room, packed with ugly, very stained furniture, featured cigarette-burned carpet and peeling wallpaper. Our view of the utility roof lacked any aesthetic appeal. The funky air conditioning unit failed miserably, and our room heated up to 80 by itself around midnight. The restaurant prices were so crazy out of whack that we assumed we had a misprinted menu.
After tossing and turning (who can sleep in a burning hot room?) we got up earlier than usual just to get the hell out.

I had to stay here because I was attending some work conference thing held on-site. This hotel is conveniently located 2 blocks from the rail station - and literally right on the beach. It was a gorgeous view of the pier and . . . that's about it.
The rooms are tiny and stink of cigarette smoke. The furniture is heavily stained. The bathrooms are small and have pedestal sinks with no counter space (i.e. to put one's toiletry bag). There's no sound insulation whatsoever. The restaurants are bad and the service worse. Mediocrity. (2 stars based on the view alone).

I was down this way looking for a place to move to next month, and stayed here because of a local friends recommendation. I got a nice room on the 6th floor with an awesome view right on the beach. The beautiful sunset was to die for. The room had a great bed with a Bose wave machine CD radio with a relaxing CD for the CD player. It was so nice to be at a hotel with a patio so I could have my room service breakfast outside while I watched the surfers in the beach below. Later on I went for a dip in their ocean-side pool and grabbed some lunch at the poolside bar overlooking the joggers on the boardwalk and the fishing pier.
The bathroom has a curved shower curtain rod that gives you the extra room and the shower head is one of those massage flow things.
I was not in the mood to go searching the area for a place to eat as I was tired from a long drive from the Bay Area. I went to their C-Street Bistro restaurant and had the best calamari appetizer of my life, very tender with an Asian fusion mango sauce that was killer. I then had the Sea Bass and again was very impressed at just how exquisite the flavor and texture was. Had a great bottle of local Santa Barbara wine and enjoyed the warm ocean breeze blowing in off the ocean. i will definitely be back
This hotel is very convenient as you can walk to all the cool spots in the Historic section of Ventura downtown. Very easy to get around to shops and restaurants (important for me as my high heels would not have been good for a long trek). I have stayed at other hotels in the area but this one definitely has the best location just south of the fairgrounds, near downtown, and right on the beach. great value for the money.
