Location, location, location.  I know that Times Square isn't the real New York and this hotel isn't the coolest or most interesting property in town, but for this trip it worked out just fine.

One block from TKTS (discount theatre tickets) and in the heart of the theatre district. Next door to the Hershey store and across the street from M&M World. My boys were out of their minds with this news. Two blocks from Letterman and three from Rockefeller Center.

And the thing about Times Square is that they've managed to clean it up and turn it into a relatively safe three-ring circus. So I was able to wander around in the wee hours and see quite a bit without venturing too far afield. They were also constantly filming right by my hotel, so I got a healthy dose of (reality) celebrity sightings.

The hotel recently went through a renovation and it shows.  The room was clean and well appointed.  I'm a priority member and upgraded to stay on the upper floors so I could get away from the street noise.  One night about eight cars were trying to recreate the Fast and the Furious on Broadway.  It also meant we had our own lounge and breakfast buffet on the top floor and the views were gorgeous.  I would not normally pay to include breakfast in our stay, but our time was so limited, it ended up working out for the best on this particular trip.

On prior visits to New York, I've stayed in converted apartments, small B&Bs and grand hotels.  This trip was really about cramming in as much as we could in a short amount of time and I thought this hotel was ideal if you are taking the tourist route to seeing NYC.

It has the largest indoor pool in Manhattan, but sadly I didn't get to use it.  A large lounge on the main floor and a 24-hour business center so you can print out your boarding passes for free.  Concierges to help you book shows and all of the staff was helpful.  I realize I sacrificed a little wow factor on this one, but there were enough awe inspiring moments on the trip.  I just needed a clean, comfortable place to sleep.

This review is for the bar only.  Did not stay at this hotel during this trip.

After a late night of photography and a round of drinks at Planet Hollywood (icky...  see http://www.yelp.com/bi... ), it was time for a final drink before heading back to the hotel.  Took a chance on the Crowne Plaza - a place very near to my heart since I have spent over a hundred nights here over the course of the previous three years!!!  For this trip however, we were staying at the New York Hilton on 6th Avenue (separate review later)

The bar was still open - yay!  And my favorite bartenders - Keith, Martin and Kim - were working!  Double Yay!  It was so good to meet up with them again and catch up.  Introduced my friend, scored drinks and spent a relaxed 30 minutes or so sipping our drinks and chatting with some locals and the bartenders.

The Crowne Plaza is located in the heart of TImes Square - on Broadway and is home to the giant Hershey store.
~ 5 stars for location

The bar area is completely remodeled - it's been expanded and now includes a large lounge area with couches and comfortable sitting areas.  Soft lighting and an impressive Single Malt array on the bar wall make for an impressive centerpiece.
~ 4 stars for ambiance

Drink pours are always generous here - as a guest on many occassions, I give the bartenders the highest points for their courtesy, professionalism and attention to detail.  I saw Keith and Martin after nearly a year and they remembered my drink of choice (which I wasn't drinking that evening) - now THAT is impressive.
~ 5 stars for bar staff and service

Didn't try any food this time so no food rating.

For an overall enjoyable experience, with old friends and new ones, for a nice way to finish the evening with an unrushed drink in a classy, elegant experience, I give the Crowne Plaza bar five stars

~ 5 stars overall

Crowne Plaza was a real winner in my book.  We were fortunate to be booked on the 45th floor, so noise was never an issue.  The staff was very helpful and Sarah (front desk) was an angel.  Our room was spacious (for NY) and the bathrooms were generously sized.  The beds were very comfortable with 4 down filled, fluffy, cloud soft pillows.  We've stayed at some very nice hotels in NY and this one ranks highly in my book.

The restaurant and bar were also very accommodating and the staff was very friendly, offering us fine suggestions that were very honest.  Paul (our bartender) was super nice and he secured the last handful of Guinness (I apologize to other Guinness lovers that happend to be there that night).  I had a mussel appetizer that was really good (not great) but very good.  My main course was just a sandwich, but it was a very well made pork sandwich with a toasted bread and oozing some very fine cheese.  I highly recommend it, especially since your right in the middle of Times Square.

Weve stayed at the Crowne Plaza Times Square - New York on several occasions in the last year and the quality of the room and service has been consistently excellent.  In the process of revamping for about a year, the newly redecorated rooms are comfortable, posh and hip.  The views of Times Square and the surrounding downtown area are spectacular, expecially from the upper floors and the corner rooms.  We've had a corner room each time; ask and see if one is available for your stay.

There are several significant and important things about this hotel:  Location, location and location.  We did hail a cab for a few adventures but only because those were events which required my 4 inch heels.  Otherwise, you can walk just about anywhere from this hotel, including Central Park, Broadway and just about every other major NYC attraction.

Crowne Plaza Times Square - New York:  It's all good.

Can't get any better than being in the heart of Time's Square!!!Gorgeous and large hotel. I love the night/city life, so you can just sit and stare out your windows for hours, no joke. Simply breathtaking especially in a spacious room.

One Word.... AMAZING. I stayed at this hotel last year before they renovated, while the location is great, the rooms were a little dated. I returned to spend a weekend in Times Square and from the time I arrived I was impressed by how incredible the hotel is on the inside. From the entrance on Time Square to Front Desk to Bar to Restaurants, it has been refreshed in every imaginable way.

The hotel has a hip, trendy feel with a touch of elegance. The renovated rooms are beautiful, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. I was fortunate enough to enjoy a 40th floor room overlooking Time Square which made the trip that much more memorable.

I will definitely be back to the Crowne Plaza Times Square!

This review is for the bar area only. ***3.5***

One of my classmates had her recession-special birthday get-together at the hotel bar.

It was actually a pretty good space because:

- no one knows that it exists apparently, so we had a huge lounge space with comfortable couches, ample tables to drop our drinks on and mood lighting to make everyone look pretty (or handsome if you're not in touch with your feminine side).

- the drinks were not over-priced and they just happened to be very strong, although there was a lot of ice sometimes. The other weird thing was that they charged you tax. $7.46 for a beer, eh?

- what wasn't so cool was the lack of ventilation or maybe the heater was on psycho mode, because it was getting hot in here and I did want to take off all my clothes. But I refrained and escaped to the bar area multiple times.

Yes, it is in the Time Square Wasteland right next to the Hershey's store, but it's good for low-key party without the hassle of a reservation. I mean, it was Friday night and we were OK to go.

I would definitely recommend this place as a jumping off point for the night.

From the years from 90 - 99, every year in the month of Feburuary - I had the opportunity to stay at this fine hotel for business.  With all expenses paid for .... how can you NOT like this hotel.

At times, I miss my old line of work........ blah...

I really enjoyed the Crowne Plaza. At first I was excited to be staying in Times Square. That lasted about 10 minutes. That place is exhausting!! I also thought it would have been nice to have a room on the street side for views of  "The Square", that lasted about 10 minutes too. I was very pleased with my room up top with views of the river. Apparently they were just beginning renovations on the rooms, starting from the top. So I had one of the newly renovated rooms! It was really nice.

I definitely agree with the folks complaining about the noise from other rooms and the halls. Honestly, when someone knocked on my neighbors door, it totally sounded like the knock was on my door. Weird.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and I thought the rates were pretty reasonable considering it was located in Times Square in New York City. I would totally stay there again if the location were different. I think I got my fix thank you very much!

Couldnt of really asked for more during a 2 night stay from a Sunday through Tuesday trip to see a Monday White Sox at Yankee Stadium game with 2 other buds.

I "won" my stay here by naming my own price on http://priceline.com and got the place for an average of $220 a night (over the 2 nights we stayed).  This was a helluva price as I was booking about 3 days in advance and other hotels in the area were easily in the $400 a night range.  I wasnt necessarily interested in staying in Times Square per say, but it worked out quite nicely.

Check in (checkin' in bud) was scheduled to be at 3pm but we tried at around noon and they said they had a room for us.  It was a corner room on the 39th floor that overlooked Times Square with a king bed.

ROOM LOOKED LIKE IT WAS RENOVATED YESTERDAY.  Everything was brand new with modern fixtures, art, and furniture desgin.  I absolutely loved it.  Bed with a pillow-top mattres, chair with an automan that kind of locked into the chair to make another place for a person to sleep, and an excellent bathroom/shower area.

The only thing that was kind of wierd was that the lobby bar area appeared to be roped off (but completely finished and fancy looking) and no one was in there.  Even though I probably wouldnt have wanted a $20 whiskey pour there, it might've been nice.

Staff was courteous and friendly.  Never heard a sound from people nextdoor or above.  Completely enjoyed my stay here and would be back.

Rooms are poorly maintained.  Walls had touch-up paint that didn't match.  In-room coffee maker didn't work, no water coming out of tub/shower so I had to use the sink to wash my hair and clean up.  Not very enjoyable for the $250+ per night.  When I contacted the desk, I was promised that a manager would call me.  Still hasn't happened.  No attempt to make it right.  There are too many good hotels in NYC...I won't be staying here again nor will I recommend to my friends.

Solid hotel in a central location.

They're currently going through renovations but I barely noticed any inconvenience due to that (we were staying on a renovated floor.)

First, the glamorous -- the location, of course. Rooms are very spacious for Midtown, nicely appointed with very comfy beds, clean bathroom, a complimentary robe, an alarm clock with an iPod hook-up. Gone are the floral patterns and the never-been-washed-before duvets. Nice lounge area downstairs and a business center where the first 20 minutes of internet are free (otherwise, it's $20 per day from the room.) The bar area is cool too -- ask the bartender for "New York Lemonade", yummy :-).

Now, not so hot -- despite the entire room being upgraded, the TV remains the old non-flat screen model, what's up with that? Also, other than the obligatory Bible in the side table and in-room dining menu, there were none of those "What to do in New York" table books that are usual for a hotel (and I was relying on to give me inspiration on what to do around town).  Also, while the bar area is quite nice, the restaurant menu is not impressive except for the price level (but you're not surprised by that, right?)  Finally, remember those free 20 minutes of the internet?  Well, you have to scan your credit card anyway because all prints are for money ($1.50 -- ouch!) and also in case you go over your 20 minutes. I used the system for 18 minutes but got charged $58 -- WTF?  The good news is that the front desk manager called up the internet provider and asked them to reverse the charge which happened a few days later.

Overall, pleasant stay and very small hick-ups along the way. If you see a decent deal being offered, this is definitely the place to be.

purpose of trip: writing with a serious deadline, studying for a standardized test, birthday trip for mother who hasn't been to new york in 15 years.
the crowne plaza in times square served the purpose of my most recent trip nyc perfectly. in other words, in the middle of mainstream nyc eye-exploding-candy, there was little to distract me; but, just enough to give mommy-dearest a taste of typical tourism.
the location is conveniently located within walking distance of everything you could need while on business or pleasure. a subway ride from down the street will get you anywhere else, to sample outside of the many, many over-priced chain restaurants and retail shops in the area.
comfort-wise, the crowne plaza is the crowne plaza: clean and comfortable, at a consistently, considerable cost.

only downsides:
watch for "free local calls", they're not.
also, the "free 20 minutes in the business centre", is actually first 30 minutes/$10, and $1 per minute thereafter. plus $1.50 per/page printing!!
construction! while i was there last week, the building was under construction. i'm not sure for how long. it barely effected our stay there, but just in case...
wonky elevators
mom said the t.v. and the channels available were crappy.

awesome:
"free breakfast" - usually free breakfasts are sub-standard, here they most certainly are NOT. even though it was served buffet-style, the items were fresh, plentiful, healthful, and high-quality. the coffee was excellent as well.
gym facilities - i didn't have a chance to take a chance to peek inside, but the brochure mentioned a 50m pool. pretty awesome for pool snobs :)

This plaza was pretty cool!  I had the view of the whole new york strip!  Unfortunately, I have one word for the staff.  SMILE!  None of the employees cracked a smile at all.  I remember asking for help, and really didn't get the help I needed.

The only reason why I gave it four stars, was because of the hotel interior  and exterior.  BEAUTIFUL, especially during the night lights.  The atmosphere of the room was so damn comfy, I didn't want to leave.

Though the staff wasn't as nice to me...I still enjoyed my stay here.

I have never stayed at the Ritz, The Plaza or some of the other high end places so I didn't rate this 5 stars, but for me its as good as it gets. INCREDIBLE VIEWS, great location, great staff. Noise from something, probably the elevator was the only drawback. We did not try the bar or restaurant but I cannot believe they were not top notch. I was a little puzzled over the apparent lack of security. It is very possible that they are so good as to be unobtrusive but I didn't see anything to stop someone from entering the hotel and visiting whatever floor they wanted to

Hummmm.... This was an interesting hotel my friends and I ventured to new york for new years eve. The lobby, staff, restaurants and bar were beautiful. When we entered the room that was a whole different story. I don't know if they over booked and put us on a floor where we could hear everything. My friend swore she heard the people in the room over us peeing. If that weren't bad enough, there were wet stains on the wall....ewwwwwwwww. The room would of been ok minus the ewww factor.  If I really had to maybe I would stay here again.......but  I would first check out the room.

This is the one Crowne Plaza I have actually enjoyed out of the three I have been to. Sad. However, this one is quite nice, the service is great, but the internet is a freaking rip off ($15 for a day, no hourly option). Also, the beds are just not that comfy. Give me the Heavenly Bed (I love you, Westin).

We had some fun in this not-so-great hotel for sure. New York in general was a damn good time. But I couldn't sleep the entire time I was there because I heard EVERYTHING from the hallway and the room next door. And kids running around with horns! BAH!! The beds were really nice though, oddly enough. Nice photos of the place online of course... Oh and customer service here is awesome. We had to carry our own luggage to the room, after tipping the guy. Although you can get a great deal on a knock off Louis Vuitton right outside the hotel!

Fantastic location, everything was neat and clean and modern enough. The staff was very nice and friendly and the hotel is pretty secure since it's on a very busy corner.  no minibar or little fridge, but i really didn't need it.  Overall, I loved it, plus I got a great rate.  I would definitely stay here again.

A good hotel in a great location.  The rooms are pretty spacious for a big city hotel and nicely appointed (at least on the concierge floor).  The views are incredible.  The hotel restaurants are better than you would expect.  The staff, however, could use some instruction on hospitality.  I know this is New York but seriously.  The hotel strikes a good value price point, especially considering it's location.
