DeLand, FL
We stayed here for one night recently and even though there is some renovation going on, it did not interfere with our stay. The room was very clean, but oddly shaped. Comfy beds, nicely appointed. The only bad thing was our toilet seat was broken and my husband didn't want to complain about it, although I was ready to ask for a new room. I did mention it when I dropped off the keys, to make sure that we were not blamed for it. The lobby and the Library Lounge are very upscale looking and the late-night salad my daughter ordered was fresh and delicious. We also ordered a couple of drinks. I thought everything was reasonable. The guy who checked me in went online and matched the price that I saw, which saved us a decent amount. I would definitely stay there again.

I did not stay here, I only ate in the restaurant. Oh this is a sad little place really. They seem to be putting money into the hotel though, the fixtures are new and there was more renovation being done between the garage and lobby.
I still felt this was a 70's hotel that just hasn't been able to catch up. I really regretted my decision to eat there when the waitress took my order. She was distant and uninterested. I was deciding between two meals, one appetizer and one special. I was looking for a recommendation and her response was a chuckle and "well, are you hungry?".
I went with the special but found a vegan restaurant on Yelp while waiting for the food. Looking around, there was a business lunch with a radio sales guy and a potential client (I could tell because he was using his outside voice to try to close the deal). There was another business meal with guys in suits. I don't trust guys in suits - seems like they have to wear suits to look smart.
Anyway, I decided I'd try a few bites, pay the tab and move next door. So, the cavetelli and vegetables was tasty but it was swimming in butter. The vegetables were a bit over done.
Closing my tab so early really sealed the deal for the hostess, she first acted like she wasn't going to like me - now she had a reason. She hardly spoke to me on the way out. -

While driving to the hospital nearby, I decided I would get a room for the night if we needed. The building is very close to the hospital we were visiting and very easy to find. Considering the stressful conditions I wanted to be as close as possible in case of bad news. I stopped in and explained I needed a room, but had no idea how long I would need. They booked my room and handed me my keys in mere moments, and checked the schedule in advance in case I needed to extend my stay. They provided me with the cost and I realized I have never paid so much for a room in my life. I remembered my AAA and they gave me a considerable discount.
The building is a circle, and as such the rooms are not your typical shape. The room was narrow near the entrance and grew wider as you approached the windows. The decor was very masculine, which I liked, but was definitely different from what I have experienced. The bed was very comfortable, probably a 42" TV, and an amazingly comfortable red easy chair.
However, the best experience of the room was the shower. There was no tub, but the shower space was as long as a bathtub would have been. I went to close the door to start the shower and realized the clear glass wall covering half the space did not move. I expected to make a complete mess of the bathroom as I showered, but remarkably nothing of the sort came to pass. The shower was flush with the ceiling, almost raining down. I cannot begin to describe how relaxing!
The next morning my wife ordered a pot of coffee. The coffee in the room only had non-dairy creamer, which contained gluten. The coffee from room service came with dairy creamer which does not have this concern. I figured $6 was what we'd end up paying for a couple cups at the hospital anyway. After 30 minutes, the coffee still was not to the room. My wife called to ask how long it would be - 5 minutes later the coffee was delivered by the manager. As an expression of her apology that the coffee was missed, she delivered it personally and let us know there would be no charge. In addition, she included some pastries and a muffin for our trouble. Not only did they give us the coffee for free, but they also went out of their way to give us something extra to make certain we knew they acknowledged their mistake.
We did not end up staying another night. By the end of the day there was no more concern about needing to make it back to the hospital quickly. But the staff of this hotel really helped make our stay as pleasant as possible. And while I hope to never need to head out to Syracuse for another situation like this, I certainly would stay at the Crown Plaza if the need arose. -

I have to confess, when we were pulling up to this hotel, I told BJ that I wanted to go somewhere else! The exterior looks old and ugly. Plus, they don't have valet, so I fell out of the car after our drive from Cooperstown and dragged my self into the hotel. The lobby made everything so much better!! It's hip and modern, with a large library like bar attached. The gentleman that checked us in was very warm and friendly. Plus, the perks!!! Free parking, free drinks in the bar, and best of all, breakfast buffet was included. What? There must be some mistake! We didn't request all this! We asked for a room with a view, got it. Also, we were offered champagne at check in! We felt like rockstars!
Also, they were nice enough to give advise on local restaurants and even have pre-printed cards on hand with directions to and from.
Our room was awesome, the head board resembled a couch. The light fixtures were ultra-modern, there was a long bench for our suitcases with a huge mirror behind in. Also, the flat screen TV was positioned over a corner unit work desk. Very nice! The bathroom sink didn't have a lot of space, but was a glass sink which is pretty cool. And the shower. Never seen anything like it. It was a glass wall, open on one end to walk into and had a huge rain shower head. Plus, the room was very quiet and we both got a good nights sleep.
The breakfast buffet in Redfield's was also incredible. They had a chef available to make made to order omelets. Very yummy. Also, I have always wanted to try that strange looking Belgium waffle machine. I couldn't quite figure it out, and someone from the staff was there to help me. My waffle was SO good. They also offered nice array of pasties, breads, bagels, english muffins, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, milk, yougurt, cereal, hot cereal, figs, pecans, the list goes on.
Sure glad I didn't let my first impression drive us away! -

Very fancy! It was completely remodeled as a different hotel previous to the Crown Plaza and everything about this place was very nice. The elevator was very cool. There are no buttons inside. You punch in the floor you want to go to on a soft pad screen before you enter the elevator and you step into the elevator and off you go. It talks very politely to you too!
They had an elegant restaurant and a lounge where you can relax, drink and eat too if you do not want to dine in a restaurant. Because I was alone on business travel I opted to eat at the Library Lounge. I had Buffalo Wings and A Hamburger Platter. Both were very delicious. I saw some of the dishes go by for the restaurant, and they were all prepared very nice. It seemed the restaurant would be a great place to dine with a date or with some clients. You should not be disappointed unless someone working is having a bad day. It was a really nice place. There was plenty of parking in a garage and there was a security guard walking through occasionally to check thing out.
It is very easy to get on and off the highway to get here and it was walking distance to a strip of shopping and dining too. This hotel is about two or three blocks from Syracuse University. However, some of the restaurants and stores close in the evening. I suppose because none of the college students have any money to spend, there is no reason to stay open.
The rooms were very fancy. My room had marble floors in the foyer and carpet throughout the rest of the room. The bathroom was all Onyx marble with a very big shower stall encased with big glass panels and a giant shower head. There was no tub ladies! The counter top for the sink was a cool neon blue glass counter top.
I had a very big work station to make a few phone calls and there was a 48-50" large HDTV.
My view of the West side Syracuse was spectacular and I suppose all the views were about the same since we were to high in the sky. -

At first glance I wanted to give this hotel a 2...It's not really cute from the outside, but once I got inside I was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly, the lobby was clean and modern. Our room wasn't ready and they took my cell phone number to call when it was. We just sat in the bar/lounge area and in about 20 minutes they called. That area was just too cute for words!
Our room was snaaaazzzy! The beds kick some heavenly bed ass! That's right! They're better than heavenly beds! The shower was an overhead rain thingy... That was cool, but after we showered it would drip forever! Ugh!
The walls are paper thin so we were awoken early by loud neighbors. They did provide us with complementary shuttle service 2/3 times we requested it. Once to the downtown area and once to the airport.
We landed this room off priceline for $89.99/night so I can't complain! It had clean and comforatable beds, free shuttle service and a restaurant, breakfast bar and fitness center. -

The good - This place was our all time favorite place to have breakfast in Syracuse. The buffet coming in at $16.00 was a great buy here. The food was always plenty and just the right temp. The eggs were amazing as well. They let you have an omelet the way that you like it prepared to.
The bad - Nothing that came to mind and we were here everyday for our week stay in Syracuse coming from LA
Note - Look for the door lady and give her a big hug for me. She was the highlight of coming here and maybe one of the reasons that I would go back. Love ya Sugar Beans!!! -

The hotel itself is fine. The restaurant however needs improvement. Dinner tasted excellent, but the server was very rude at first but eventually opened up. Breakfast was another matter. The server was very forgetful and did not try and correct her mistakes. You could have a warm waffle if you made it yourself at the buffet or a cold one if you ordered from the menu. We tried to send the waffle back, but the server did not see a problem with a cold waffle. In short, love the hotel but try and find another place to eat.

If you are looking for a nice looking hotel in down town Syracuse, the Renaissance has my recommendation. Easy to get to, right off the interstate, beautiful inside, excellent beds, modern amenities include a big flat screen that you can watch TV on or connect up to your computer for a DVD or to do some work - a great big desk space to work at. Really - for any business traveler, I couldn't be happier.
If you can get Government rates - I recommend it as the price can drop precipitiously for all you government contractors out there. :) -

Solid hotel. Clean and upscale. Can't expect more in Syracuse. We had a cocktail hour on one of their function rooms and the view was very nice. It was spacious and floor to ceiling windows.
The room was kind of tight and a bit funny shaped, but it was clean and very nice. Especially after using Priceline, it was quite a bargain for what we go. -

I've stayed at the Renaissance a few times and each time, the beds were comfortable and the TV was nice. It's a nice place but they've increased their prices and tightened up on the discount offers.
Sometimes it'll be faster to take the stairs because I've waited 20 minutes for the elevator before. At least they have a TV playing over the elevator doors while you wait.
Also, don't accept the handicap room because they're not as nice as the other rooms.
Parking is convenient because of the multi-level parking garage. -

The hotel it's self is one of the nicest I've stayed in. But I've consistently had bad service here.

This hotel was very accommodating. Stephanie checked us in with champagne! She was very helpful because parking was tricky with my vehicle due to size. My car was over 7' tall so I wouldn't fit in the parking garage and had a bike rack with 3 bikes on the rear. She found me a parking spot in the alley used for service trucks. This was a great experience.

Easy to get to.... Not a post card hotel, but a safe bet in a city that may not have the more modern mindset.

The rooms here are great. The bed is VERY comfortable and the shower is awesome. I stayed here for 2 weeks after staying at the Doubletree for a week. The Doubletree gets a 0.
Here's the low down on the Renaissance.
pros:
the staff (all of them - bar, front desk, bell hop, etc)
rooms (shower, tv, work area connections)
room rate
lounge
Redfield's for dinner (breakfast here off the menu was BAD)
The Library (bar)
free covered parking
cons:
doesn't feel safe to walk around at night
laundry service (my pants came back smelling awful, at $6.95/pair it was disappointing and the clothes wasn't delivered to my room as promised)
internet connection is only free downstairs ($12.95 in your room and it's not wireless --they provide the ethernet cable) -

Very nice hotel. Doesn't look great from the outside, but has free parking and very modern, clean and spacious rooms. Well designed for business use in the rooms with lots of plugs. Great energy in the lobby, restaurant and bar area. Only downside is that it is tough to get wireless in the rooms. Free and easy in the lobby.

This hotel used to be called "The Marx" and was very upscale. It then started to go downhill, but recently, it was bought by the Marriott chain and things are looking up. Room are spacious....internet is free. I like the a/v panel (a Marriott feature) that I use to plug in a portable DVD player so I can watch movies.
The beds are comfortable and large. Easy sleeping in this hotel. One word of warning...ask for a high floor. If you are too low you'll be hearing road noise from I-81 next to the hotel. Also, no baths...just a shower with a rainshower showerhead. I've done an informal survey and half of the people like that kind of showerhead that kinds of soaks you instead of pelting you. I don't like it as much....so there.
I ate breakfast at Redfield's, the hotel restaurant.I think they lowered prices recently and instituted a buffet that is decent price. You get the buffet plus coffee and juice, lower than if you ordered off the menu. Of course, a colleague ordered off the menu and the waitress forgot to charge him for his grapefruit juice so his meal was cheaper. Aha, but I got oatmeal AND eggs for breakfast.
The lobby bar, with a library-ish decor, is quite nice. I had one of my favorite moments in that bar a few years ago. We were drinking, late, and wanted food. The restaurant was closed, so the bartender gave us some local takout menus. A few minutes later, we were wolfing down chicken parm heroes along with our drinks. Nice touch.
I've stayed in the local Embassy Suites and Hampton Inns and the Renaissance puts them to shame..plus I get Marriott points!
