as usual the unlucky family made plans to get away for a few days at the last possible minute. (the night before) and since things are never simple in our entropy filled household, we added our lovely dog to the list of would be guests. we chose this place because:
a) they are "pet friendly."
b) they accept points (priority club) and this gave us 2 free nights.
my first thought was resort, reshmort. snort. the rooms were acceptable, but actually i think your everyday holiday inn express has nicer rooms.
the good: great views of everything including the fourth of july fireworks!
-the staff is very helpful and accommodating.
-the indoor pool is nice, the lobby and great room are attractive.
-it's a short walk to the hustle and bustle of main street and mirror lake.
the bad:
it's pet friendly but not pet logical. who left that little bag of dog poop on a ledge? that would be me. (i won't blame it on the seamonkeys) yes the first time i walked teddy i circled the grounds looking for a trash receptacle. after a long search, i found one in the back next to the laundry room. the 2nd time that rubbish bin was nowhere to be found, which naturally produced a dilemma. woe is me! the quandaries life presents! so i gift wrapped it and put it on the ledge. well you get the picture.
-the walk from town to the hotel is a steep climb uphill.
the very very ugly:
-no 24 hour coffee available in the lobby. and the typical 2 packages of inferior java, one decaf, no tea, did not do the trick alas. also why do most hotels, including this one, give you 2 measly packets of sucrose?
i'm not diabetic for goodness sake! stop this sugar rationing please!
(they do give you coupons to get free coffee or tea-but i found this to be a bit of a nuisance)
We stayed in the Tower Suite in the new wing of the hotel in Feb. 2007. All five of us plus a 2-year old...and there was still plenty of room for more! Our suite had 1 bedroom with a huge tub and toilet, 1 bathroom, a huge livingroom with a queen size sofabed, queen size murphy bed, fireplace and a flat screen tv, a full kitchen, and a dining table. We were able to see the Olympic ski jump from our livingroom! The hotel also has an indoor pool, a beautiful Great Room, and it's about 15 mins away from Whiteface.
This place is cozy and clean but it's a bit pricey and my cousin made the accomodations so I don't know what the customer service is like. Ask for a room in the new wing and check for deals online especially ones that include lift tickets! Our stay came out to about $200 a person for 2 nights (without lift tickets).
