A true friend's work is never done... and sometimes the work of a true friend includes organizing twelve scatterbrained and overworked individuals from four different states to congregate in CT for another friend's birthday. And sometimes a true friend's work includes getting a group rate for the scatterbrained and working out details with a sales manager ahead of time to ensure a smooth group trip. Details like-- the exact hours of the pool, and the need for all of these reserved rooms to be available for a 1pm check-in AND all be near one another.

So sometimes a true friend gets kind of pissed off when she puts in much time, phone calls, and emails to facilitate a smooth trip and upon arriving to the hotel she discovers:
    1) the pool is CLOSED altogether (worth mentioning)?
    2) the rooms are not ready at the agreed time.
    3) the rooms are NOT near one another.

Said friend was SO irritated. Lucky for her, the trip was a smashing success anyway. However, despite the obvious deficits in customer service at this hotel, the rooms were fine (meaning, pretty clean, and had beds and a TV), but kind of small. No mini-fridges in the rooms. Right off of the highway, and next door to a 24 hour gas station mart, which was convenient. I usually don't notice this, but really bad art print. The same one, over and over again. And we were placed near the "Waterbury Hospital Sleep Lab" portion of the hotel... huh?

Sidenote: when originally booking the rooms for our group, they tried to offer me a "discounted" deal. I appreciated the gesture, except that it was significantly more expensive than any of the undiscounted deals I found on the net at their hotel for the same dates. When I politely pointed this out, the woman stammered something about it, and adjusted her original offer. Maybe that's just a business tactic, but if you MUST stay here, I would recommend you book it on any number of travel sites that will be cheaper, and quite frankly, a little easier to deal with.

I recently stayed at this establishment as part of a birthday extravaganza that a friend of mine had painstakingly organized for me and my scatterbrained and overworked friends (hmmm... sounds familiar for some reason). After looking at pictures of the hotel online I had really hyped myself up about how wonderful the night's stay would be here, but I was let down.

As was stated in other reviews, the decor of the hotel seriously dropped off once I walked out of the lobby. It seemed that the same 4 pictures just kept repeating down every corridor, the rooms were cramped, and the lack of a refrigerator made storing snacks a challenge.

The staff at the hotel was not accommodating in any form whatsoever. They refused to place the people in our group anywhere near each other, and the woman that checked us in (I wish I could remember her name, because she was so outrightly rude that I feel as though I'm doing further customers of this hotel a disservice by not reporting her to the hotel chain's corporate office) placed me and a friend at complete opposite ends of the hotel immediately after we both politely requested to be placed in rooms nearby each other. It almost seemed that this move was out of spite, though none of us could understand why. Later in the night we asked another employee if we could use a spare room for our dinner, and not only did they flat out deny us the usage of the room but made a big spectacle of locking the room in front of us.

Another disappointment was the pool situation. My first plan upon arriving at the hotel was to take a few laps in the pool after driving to relax, and then get ready for our activities later on. However, as we arrived, the pool staff(?) placed a sign on the reception desk that they were closing the pool for a "scheduled treatment." Scheduled treatment? Maybe they should have mentioned that to us when we specifically made a point of how we wanted to use the pool when we booked our event at the hotel. At least the hot tub was open, though it was by far the strangest hot tub I've ever been in.

Overall, it was still a wonderful weekend, but this was by far not due to this hotel in any way, shape, or form. I will never stay at this establishment again, knowing that there are other hotels in the area that are far more friendly and accommodating.

I did not sleep at all. Every time the heater came on, it rattled so loud that it woke me up. I finally became sick of this at 2am. At 2am, what options do I have when I can't sleep? Do I lose more sleep trying to get moved to a different room? Would I new room be any better? Either way, I decided to just turn off the heater. I then woke up at 4am because I was absolutely freezing. Unfortunately it wasn't a warm night in Connecticut. So I turned on the heater again to try and warm up and of course couldn't get back to sleep because of all the noise.

Finally I decide to leave. Usually when I check out of a hotel, the front desk personnel will ask how my stay was. Apparently the front desk staff at Crowne Plaza don't ask that question. I informed the front desk personnel that I was unsatisfied with my stay because of the condition of the heater in the room. I was then told that maintenance would look into it. At that point the conversation was over.

I will not be returning to the Crowne Plaza in Southbury, CT again. There are plenty of other hotels in the area where I can be guaranteed a decent night of sleep and deal with friendly front desk staff who care about my stay and want to have a satisfied customer.

I'm not hard to please with hotels.  I don't typically spend much time at a hotel, so location, price, and cleanliness are pretty much the only things that make a difference. This place is more than adequate.

    Some details:

The pool and hot tub are open until 10pm.  I'm always frustrated when a hotel has a pool, and I'm out all day thinking about a dip and I find out the pool closes at 4.  What's the point?  But this was nice, though the bubbles in the hot tub were a little strong.

I also don't like when they clean my room every day.  I know I'm weird, but if I'm only here for two days I think it's a waste. I do need the room to be absolutely cleanwhen I initially arrive though, and it was.  I put the "do not disturb" sign up and my room was left alone, even though my parents room was cleaned every night.  So that was nice for me.

Most importantly, is that the rates are much lower on http://hotwire.com for this place than anywhere else ($85 vs. $179), so look for the three star there.
