Having ordered lunch here a dozen times, I feel I can now safely give the Crown Cafe five stars.
The owners/staff are awesome; they are always very nice, friendly, and attentive. For food, I generally stick to the great, well-spiced, chicken kebab dishes, but everything else I've tried has been good as well.
In glowingly positive reviews, I generally try to mention something that could use improving, but saying, "Their chicken kebab wraps are so full of delicious chicken that you have to use a fork!" seems pretty forced.
In any case, you owe it to yourself to stop by! -

I have to update.. almost 2 years later and I still visit AT LEAST once a week. The restaurant has since changed hands to a LOVELY family who always say hi, remember my "regular" and are just NICE. I highly recommend either the ham, egg, and cheese on an english muffin or sausage, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. I also get iced tea... LOVE IT. I can walk in and out in around 5 minutes with made to order breakfast and drink and all for under $6. Love this place more than words can tell!

Crown Cafe is a great example of a local diner. The staff is super friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is rather no-nonsense, but still relaxing and comfortable. I think the owner grilled my muffin for me actually :)
I go in here for a muffin every once in a while and am always delighted by the perfectly sized, fluffy muffins (grilled, for the extra butter, real 'diner' experience) for LESS than $2! Today I got a french toast muffin and it's quite yummy.
I also noticed their greek/gyro/sandwich menu and am definitely going to be trying one of those soon. -

really nice owner, lots of people from my work frequent this shop and have gotten to be 'regulars.'
The coffee is always really good, the crown special sub is amazing!!!! bbq chicken, bacon and melty American cheese...how can you go wrong?
also, a perk of this place is the egg lemon soup, which they call chicken and rice. tastes just like my Greek family's old recipie!
love this place! -

I give them an extra star because you just want to love the family that runs this place! They are so sweet! The owner (grandpa?) does the cooking and it is usually the grandson (?) serving. You want to keep coming back just for them!
The food is very solid. They always make it exactly as you requested. They are attentive, and it is cheap.
The only minus is the atmosphere, I don't know why because it is perfectly clean and fine. There is just something about it that is kind of blah.
There is always an open table, and parking on the street. So, in summary, give it a try and help a nice locally owned, solid joint succeed! -

This place used to be "Why Not" then it was "Peter's Kitchen" and now it is "Crown Cafe". It has changed names 3 times and owners 4 times in the 3 years I have been going here (it's near my work).
By far my favorite of all the owners were the original guy from Why Not but Denise from Peter's kitchen was a doll. We loved her. Needless to say we were sad to see her go and were a bit skeptical of the new owners at Crown Cafe.
The food is good. But, in their first few months, the've had a few kinks to work out. Service is really slow and orders are wrong sometimes. My co-workers and I had kind of boycotted the new place out of frustration.
Today i gave them another chance. I just had a falafel wrap and it was delicious! Wheat pita with crispy falafel, tzatziki, hot peppers, lettuce, tomato (and I had them add pickles).
It still took a while to get it, but the guy who made it (the owner) was very nice, as usual. And, the girl who took the order and wrang it up was a huge improvement over some of their other cashiers that obviously didn't make the cut.
I'm glad they are improving. The boycott is over!Listed in: Lunch Places Near Work

Used to be Peter's Kitchen, now it's the Crown Cafe, but whatever you call it, it's pretty good. Serving breakfast and lunch they've got a small variety of standards (pancakes, eggs, standard side orders) along with bakery items either to dine in or to go. Points for the young lady working the counter who asked whether I'd like my muffin grilled or not - at most places they wouldn't bother to ask that. Chef at the grill is one of the family members and, although service isn't the fastest in the world, it's accurate and the food is satisfying.
Neither the food nor the decor is anything to write home about. Both are about as plain as plain gets. However, this is a little restaurant, not a culinary theme park or five-star fine dining establishment. It's pretty good and that's why I like it. No complaints. -

We popped in here for breakfast around 8:45am on Saturday morning. My boyfriend's over-medium eggs were ACTUALLY cooked over-medium, which pretty much never happens. His bacon was also properly cooked, not burnt to a crisp or limp and soggy. My breakfast burrito was tasty, and large enough that I only made it through half. We'll be back!

Aw, it was so nice to find a place to get a Coke and breakfast before my interview across the street! It was very inexpensive, good food, and the service was excellent. This isn't anything fancy.
I was glad to find it. -

I really expected more out of this place, with the "People Love Us On Yelp" sticker in the window. I was left to wonder why. My hubby and I were going to hit the Spot Cafe before doing a little grocery shopping but we were starving and the Spot looked jam packed so we settled for this place. Try something new, he says. I'm sure it'll be great, he says. Meh...not so much.
We walked in and there were tables available. That should have been the first red flag. 10:30am on a Saturday morning when everything else has a line out the door and this place had seating available. Hmmm...
Upon our arrival I noticed a family of 4. It looked like they had just finished their meal, emptyish cups and glasses and a settled look about them, like they had been there a while. We ordered our food and drinks. Everything came out pretty quickly. I didn't feel like I waited long. We began to eat and the waitress (who was clueless on an epic level) went up to the family of four and said, "Can I get you anything else?"
The woman said, "Our food, we're starving."
These people had empty glasses when we walked in and they still didn't have their food and we were already well into our breakfasts. I also noticed that when the food came out one of the meals was wrong. The woman in the family of four got up twice to help herself to things that she needed but the clueless waitress was not bringing to her. Wow.
Then in a act of true unprofessionalism, the owner (I assume) was giving the waitress a good talking to in the open service area in front if the patrons. He wasn't yelling but it was still pretty uncomfortable.
As far as our food was concerned it was mediocre at best. My eggs were overcooked and the homefries were charcoalesqe. I appreciate crispy homefries but there were just flat out burned to a crisp. The hubby's breakfast was fine. Edible but not great.
I gave it two stars because my iced tea was good, hubby's iced coffee was delicious and the food wasn't bad, it's just that there is SO much better to be had in that area. We won't be going back. I'll wait in line in the rain at the Spot Cafe before I subject myself to that again.Listed in: Breakfast!

I often have breakfast or lunch here on weekends. Omelets and breakfast sandwiches are just right, the coffee is good, and the pancakes are the best in Watertown, which has no shortage of breakfast places serving them. There are some unusual twists, such as an omelet with Armenian sausage.
For lunch, I'm particularly fond of the chicken kebab rollup, with perfectly grilled chicken and a tasty middle-eastern sauce. The falafel is also quite good, and Crown Cafe is one of the few places nearby where I can get a falafel fix on Sunday.
The owner and family are simply impossible not to like, putting the crowning touch on the cafe. -

This is the second time I have been here. The first time was for a coffee & bagel which was good, but the service was iffy the girl behind the counter had some catching up to do with a old friend instead of paying attention to guest . The second time the service was great but my eggs were over cooked not sure if that is some kind of deliquesce in watertown. Also this is the first cafe I have been to that dose not have a restroom.

This place serves food quickly. The meals are decent but not superb - pretty standard cafe fare. It's a solid place to eat a quick lunch, but if you're looking for stupendously good food, keep looking.

I've been here twice for breakfast & once for lunch. The pancakes are OUTSTANDING! Thin & delicious & you can order one, two, or three, based on your appetite. I like their coffee & the service is quick and friendly.
I had a felafel sandwich this Sunday. That's right: felafel on a Sunday--most places that serve such things are closed Sundays. Anyway, it was a nice felafel sandwich. It had a little bit of hummus (not so much as to be overly messy) and some nice pickled peppers instead of pickled turnips & hot sauce.
It's hardly ever crowded, although it's good enough that it should be. You should try it! -
