The rumors you have heard are true- this is hands down one of the best places to get a hamburger. If I can't whip out my grill and mix my own mean with my spices, I want a Crown Burger.

Now I hate pastrami, but omg, they actually put thick slices of bacon and not flimsy bacon flavored paper on their burgers.

Their fries are a little thick and they cool too fast, but they are decent fries. Their soft serve is very good too...and of course the Utah phenom, fry sauce. Nummy, nummy, nummers.

Being from LA I have been to The Hat and had their pastrami burger.  Nevertheless, I decided to hit up Crown Burger after reading about it in a nytimes food blog and having time to kill before going to the airport.  I got a regular pastrami burger here which was good, but not spectacular.  The pastrami was thick and juicy, that was the best part.  Everything else- the patty, cheese, lettuce, was just ok.  I would come back but I would not wolf down a big burger like that again just before boarding a plane.

Stop looking, stop arguing.  There is no hamburger and fries in Salt Lake City better than Crown Burgers.  I've done them all.  There are worthy adversaries such as Apollo Burger, B+D Burger, and Olympus Burgers, but Crown Burgers makes the superlative booiga.  Anyone who would eat a barf burger from McDonalds, endure the insipid fries from Wendys, or choke down a Carl's Jr. when Crown Burgers is down the street deserves what they get.  As a side note, I personally believe it is sacrilege to eat any burger that has guacamole, barbecue sauce, pineapple, or any other abomination on it.  Stick with the classic bacon cheeseburger loaded with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, kethcup, mustard, and maybe some mayo.  And never eat a burger without french fries (use both ketchup and  fry sauce for alternating dipping).  A burger alone?  A burger with steamed veggies?  A burger with apple slices?  Are you kidding?  If you are gonna do the burger, do the burger right.

This was my first experience with Crown Burger. I wish I had joined the Crown club much earlier.

I went in very late, only about 5 mins before closing, and was met by friendly faces. Even coming in that late, no one seemed to mind, or really care, that they had to prepare one more meal. My order was taken quickly, and my meal was prepared both correctly and with haste.

I got my order to go, and after walking the nearly 10 mins home, my food was still hot and delicious.

I got the bacon cheeseburger combo meal, which comes with fries and a medium drink. The bacon wasn't the crappy little strips you get at the big chain burger joints, but rather was nice thick slices that nearly dwarfed the patty itself. I'm going to try a few other burgers at Crown, but I will definitely be having the bacon cheeseburger again.

The meal I got was $8.00, which at first was intimidating, but after eating the whole thing (only a few fries are left), I realize that $8.63 (with tax) was more than worth the meal I just chowed.

Having moved here from Arizona only months ago, I still find great novelty and delight in the "fry sauce" that is served nearly everywhere here. (It's just thousand island dressing, but it really makes a meal complete.)

Best fast food slash burger place in SLC. Every meatlover's heaven. It's a bit on the pricey side (compared to other fast foods or burgers), but it fills you up physically and emotionally. I go to the one on 33rd and I like how it's always clean. It's decorated too so you don't even remember you're at a fast food place. My hands always smell like burgers for hours afterwards even after intensive hand-scrubbing. I also recommend their gyros. If they are ever open late, I think my hips would be thrice the size they are now.

The only gripe I have about Crown Burger is that they are closed on Sundays, being in Mormon-town. That's when I want it most! I guess that makes them more of a "restaurant" than just a fast food chain...

Welcome brothers and sisters to a burger joint review!!  (that's my burger sermon voice)  I love a good burger and I have tasted some pretty good burgers and some pretty bad burgers (see other reviews of mine if you'd like).

Not too disagree with my yelping brethren and sistren, but I think this place is not  as good as most make it out to be nor is it as poor as some make it out to be.

What should you expect:

THE GOOD-it is a decent burger with good flavor.  It's juicey and has a good tasting bun.  I had the bacon burger as was recommended by a fellow yelper.  It did get all over the place which is what a good burger should do.

The staff is awesome and super nice.  At the end of my meal I was curious to taste their pastrami and asked if I could have a sample.  Well, they definitely gave me more than I was expecting and it was tasty to boot.  It is a little thicker sliced than pastrami "should be" but again it had excellent flavor.

THE SO-SO: The fries are your frozen variety (as was previously mentioned by another burger aficionado).

The actual burger is thinner than I expected.  Don't get me wrong I wasn't expecting a cow in between my buns  (teehee) but I was expecting just a little more (it may be just me).

THE SAD/UGLY: the price was a little more than I expected to pay for an average burger.

I paid a little over 9 bucks for the bacon burger combo (fries, med. soda).

It definitely has potential to be a better burger.

It seems to be an established place here in SLC so if you're from out of town you may want to try it.  If there are better places here you may want to ask.

Mind you, I love love love (that's 3 loves!!) burgers and have had many excellent burgers all around the USA, so I am biased.

I would probably try the other burger joint here in SLC that people recommend before I came back to Crown.  But I will come back to try their pastrami sandwiches.

Crown Burger- a Utah exclusive chain, pretty much locations within 45 miles of SLC.

I saw an article about these-"Palates want more, arteries scream for mercy" or something like that.  Pretty much.

Marvelous when you want a gooky burger.  I don't eat burgers often, but when you're going to have one why not go all out.  They serve up a lean pastrami topped burger with secret sauce as their speciality.  As long as you're at it, go ahead and get the fries with fry sauce (a SLC peculiarity) and a shake.

If you're in the area you've got to try them.  It's like cheesesteak in Philly  or, well you get the idea.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's Utah's only redeeming quality.  They did give us the Osmonds after all.  Right.  But seriously, Utah is a great place to visit if you know where to go:

Moab-funky town with funky vibe.  Tourists passing through to go to Arches and Canyonlands Nat'l park, mecca for mountain bikers, rafters, other outdoor enthusiasts.  Doesn't feel like it's in Utah.

Cedar City-good base to visit Zion.  College vibe mixed with Utah straight laced town.  Shakespeare festival in the summer.

Good for when you need a filling burger.

The crown burger is a staple burger of SLC.  Crown Burger is a locally owned franchise of brothers (from what I hear), including some other local burger joints.  While the burger is something I always get when I am in town, their chicken sandwich is not that bad and their gyros are not the worst in town.
But go inside to eat.  It seems the drive thru is the last on their list of service.
And for the people that figured out the secret of the fry sauce. . .mix mayo and ketchup, then contrast and compare.

I'm not a fan of the pastrami burger but the Bacon Chese Burger is my favorite. Thick well cooked bacon with a freshly cooked beef patty = yum. Also, I can't say enough good about something else that people usually wouldn't think to to try at Crown. They have one of the BEST BLT sandwiches.... ANYWHERE!!!!!

I'm not a big fan of their fries (typical frozen SYSCO fries) but the onions rings are where it's at.

That's a fine burger. Balanced, fresh, meaty, satisfying. The pastrami on the house burger is thick and delicious.

On paper, a burger with both ground beef and pastrami is a cute idea. But a huge pile of pastrami thrown on top of the patty? On the one hand, my Brazilian friend G-Roc loved it. Me, maybe I'm a wuss, but I found it unappetising: that's more red meat than I eat most weeks. The pastrami was tasty, but that just emphasised the tastelessness of the ground beef. Fries were of typical dive quality.

You do have to come here once, because you know, fry sauce.

They have the best french fries on earth. Creamy, crispie, HOT, greasy, salty. And their fry-sauce with pickle pieces and onions... it's orgasmic. I sometimes cheat my vegetarian ways and just get the regular cheeseburger because it is freaken irresistable. The smell of char-broiled beef is intoxicating. The one thing I really hate about this place is almost everyone who works there is boneheaded, so make sure they read the order back to you several times before you pay and if you got your order to go, check your bag to make sure you've got what you ordered. Their onion rings are awesome, as is the baklava. Just stay away from any of the fish items they serve. They're no good and they totally come out of a can, and it's overpriced.

I would die for their regular cheeseburger, a half side of fries and a half side of onion rings with a billion things of fry sauce and a coke. RIGHT NOW. I suppose you can equate eating here to eating at In-N-Out, only they do it better here.

The crown burger with pastrami hit the spot
and the fry sauce...
It's good but I guess I don't get the obsession.
Either way, you can't enjoy Crown Burger without it

While I didn't know this at the time, a Crown Burger is a cheeseburger "crowned" with pastrami.  Equally tempting is their bacon cheese burger combo ($7.60 includes fries and a small drink).  The burger was fantastic and enjoyable to the last bite.  I went from starving to completely satisfied in 10 minutes.  Fries was great as well.  As to the fry sauce?  It tasted like thousand island dressing.

Bottom line:  The decor of the place could use some updating, but the food is great.

Ditto on the best burger in town.  Think pastrami on a cheeze burger sounds weird?

Try it.

You'll never go back to your lame regular burgers again.

Crown Burger is awesome.

I'm not a big fan of pastrami but the burger itself is possibly the best in Utah.  The extensive menu incluces my favorite gyro in Utah plus: Tuna melt, fish fillet, cold turkey sandwich and ribeye steak plate.  Milkshakes are as nature intended:  thick, creamy, natural.  The many drink choices include Orange Bang and Raspberry Zing.  There are six kinds of salad and a garden burger if you want to avoid the grease.

A kids menu features $4-$5 meals that include the marvelous fries.  (Don't forget the fry sauce!)

Some notes:
Crown Burger is open until 10:30 every night except Sunday when it isn't open at all.  : (

The baklava isn't very good.

Soylent Green, I mean Fry Sauce, is Thousand Island Dressing!

Sorry to spoil the secret, and it's not that it's a bad secret, but before you walk two miles like I did to Crown Burger just to find out what the mysterious fry sauce was, you should just know - it's a thickened version of Thousand Island Dressing.  Not that there's anything wrong with this - it's definitely yummy to smother your fries with (and they have great fries), but I thought you should know.

Once upon a time I loved a boy who moved back to Salt Lake City.  He introduced me to Crown Burger during one of my many visits to Utah.  Boy did I love Crown Burger.  I almost loved Crown Burger more than I loved him.  Oh, I could write poetry about fry sauce.  Alas, my reason to visit Salt Lake, and eat Crown Burger, is no longer.  R.I.P.  I can't bring back the man.  Someone FedEx me a Crown Burger for old times sake....

Crown Burger is the best burger in town.  Now before all you Fast Food Nation people freak out, Crown Burger is locally owned by a bunch of greeks (of course)!  Ok, so the food is not locally produced... but it's still the best damned burger in slc.  Now if there were only open on Sunday...

One of the top burger joints in SLC.  You'll get a huge burger piled with pastrami and fries with Utah's own fry sauce. This is definitely not for those with weak hearts.

one of the few (ok there were more than a few) redeeming things about growing up in utah. crown burgers and root beer floats. i'm just surprised no other places serve pastrami over burgers. well, carl's jr has pastrami burgers right now, and i'm stoked about that. but seriously, try crown burgers if you ever find yourself in slc. and if you must, go to hardees for breakfast.
