I really don't want to write an update for CFLB. The truth is I want this place to be my little secret, so the classes stay small, but really this box is too great not to tell everyone about.
As someone who was new to crossfit I loved their {ON-RAMP} program that I started in October, since then they have made some changes, so that anyone can join anytime. Which is really convenient for those who have busy schedules and had problems committing to the {ON-RAMP} schedule.
Since I join I've seen definition where I wasn't able to before, and while I haven't mastered my dead hangs, I am getting there!
One of the best things about this gym, is the people. They have an active {CFLB PALEO GROUP} on Facebook, where everyone shares recipes, activities and encourages each other to stay committed to their health. Although I haven't met a many of the members I interact with on FB, I've instantly felt as though I had a community of people who are their supporting me.
If you're tired of the gym routine or interested in crossfit, this is the place to be!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I am happy to say I've found a home here at CFLB.
I grew up in the LBC and now am only 15min away from this box. Why I never knew of this place is beyond my comprehension. I wish what I know now I knew then. :))
I've joined crossfit in May and have some foundation but can always improve on a lot more.
With a few classes I've attended so far at CFLB, I'm proud to say that I've committed myself to a year of unlimited-classes membership. I have been very impressed with Gina and Carlos and their patience for answering my 10-million questions (I'm sure with others too once I get to meet everyone). But most importantly, I'm extremely impressed with the initial friendliness from the members and camaraderie among everyone. For instance, everyone helps out, even to put away the weights/bars/equipments. I was not expecting this on my first day. I'm used to putting away my own equipments.
Secondly, the box is very spacious, clean, and organized. The classes are offered in different times a day so are flexible to everyone's schedule. What I appreciate is the systematic approach to each class (regardless of levels) with warming up together as a class and obviously experiencing the WOD together.
What I've learned is that most crossfitters share common goals and are serious about their WODs/learning to do the unimaginable tasks/etc. So people come to the box for one main purpose- to do a WOD. Socializing among members are noted before or after class and not during to avoid interruption or distractions (hence I appreciate the 'red line'). This is one of the most important factors to me- I'd like to experience and accomplish a wod successful (or not) with others' support; but if others just come and sit around to talk and be loud/distracting (other than cheering on) during an ongoing class (which Ive observed outside of CFLB) then it becomes a hindering factor and compromises one's learning experience.
Everyone needs to find the box that fits his/her niche. And I'm happy I've finally found it at CFLB. I'm looking forward to all of my classes (maybe not all the WODs)... I've returned to my roots- the LBC :) -

I had the luxury to spend the CF games weekend with CFLB !! Very welcoming tight-knit community. I met several members, trainers and the owner's: Gina and Chad. These few short days with CFLB were enough to see the camaraderie and develop meaningful friendships. Everyone is quickly welcomed and CFLB is much more than a gym. It is a perfect example of Crossfit's primary objective: to have fun and create a long-standing community. The strongest boxes workout together and play together. Gina and Chad took this box over fairly recent but yet they have already outgrown their location.
It is apparent that CFLB puts their members first. Gina is constantly dedicating her time into developing challenges to motivate members, update the website and is an all-around compassionate person.
If I lived near Long Beach this would be my gym!!! -

Love, love the support and encouragement that owners, Chad Cross and Gina Caywood, and their coaches give to me everyday that I'm there.
It's a fantastic and very supportive community that I'm so happy to be a part of in my journey to elite fitness.
You rock, CrossFit Long Beach! -

I've belonged to many gyms in my past, especially as a former spin, aerobics and current yoga instructor. Crossfit Long Beach is by far the BEST gym and most supportive community fitness environment I have ever had the privilege to be a apart of in my life.
If you are looking for not only a change in your work outs but a lifestyle change filled with amazing charity event opportunities, strength building beyond what you've ever experienced and an extra dose of awesome THIS is your new gym.
Forget all your pre-conceived notions of Crossfit-if you have any particularly scary tall tales-leave them at the warehouse door. Seriously. The owners, Chad and Gina pay special mind to all the tenets of fitness-particularly flexibility and mobility in your everyday life. You will always feel safe, encouraged and challenged simultaneously in all Crossfit WOD's (work out of day). No excuses!
An added bonus is the awesome people who make up the CFLB community. The coaches, the fellow members-it's the real deal. Authentic, inspiring people wishing to live their lives to its Rx capacity.
Are you ready to join me?
Thanks CFLB! -

If I could give six stars, I would ;) Crossfit Long Beach is a gym unlike any other. Every single person from the coaches your teammates makes you feel at home from the second you step into the gym- they encourage you, the make you laugh, and most of all they help you get to where you want to go. From my technique, to diet, all aspects of Crossfit Long Beach help you do everything you've always wanted to do.
Since I've been here I've done things I NEVER thought I could do and expect more of the same in the future. The number don't lie- I could onyl do 5 pullups in one sitting.... now I can do 15 straight and 100 in workout. I was only able to deadlift 135 lbs when i started and now am up to 345 lbs..... And speaking of numbers- I've also seen many of my teammates drop the lbs and gain tons of strength.
Crossfit Long Beach has become such an integral part of my week that if I don't go my body misses being sore..... in a good way ;)
Thank you, Crossfit Long Beach. Me love you long time. -

So, yea....This was our first experience with CrossFit. We've done P90X, personal training, marathons, etc etc. The intro class workout was a great sign of what's to come and I'm tottaly pumped to start. The problem is that they are doing away with On-Ramp (which is a good thing), but beginners cant get in until January now. I was a little disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm in terms of trying to get people signed up and motivated to begin. So we just left.
So I guess we either have to wait or find another one of the CrossFit gyms in town.Comment from Chad C. of CrossFit Long Beach 12/5/2011

I've been to a few different Crossfit gyms and met a lot of great people. I must say Crossfit Long Beach has some of the friendliest trainers and members of any gym.
The trainers are patient and very encouraging. They are always on the lookout to make sure you're doing each of the workouts properly.
There is an environment of friendly competition within the members of the gym. Everyone is working out hard enough to make sure you push yourself to the next level, but always ready to cheer you on or help you through the workouts.
Crossfit Long Beach accepts you as you are and will work with you to help you reach your goals. Highly recommended. Come on Saturdays for a free workout and see if you like it. -

If you are looking to join a gym and have been told about Crossfit Long Beach and are here looking for recommendations, I can tell you one definite thing: every member of this gym will tell you that it is worth every penny.
I have been a member of Crossfit Long Beach for 3 months now and I now cannot imagine my life without Crossfit or Crossfit Long Beach.
But, before joining Crossfit Long Beach, you must understand first of all, what Crossfit is. Crossfit is not a workout; it is a culture. The athletes that contribute their sweat to this gym have health and fitness on the forefront of their minds. Crossfit is not about how we look, but, what we as athletes can do as a whole. How we look is a result of Crossfit and not the end-result.
With that said, fitness is what will bring you to this gym, but the personality and togetherness that our members have is what will keep you coming back. Everyone makes everyone feel at home and as part of a family. When another member finds success, we all revel in the success with them. The coaching is nurturing and never judgmental. No one ever makes you feel less than you are. If anything, every member of Crossfit Long Beach cheers for you and wants nothing more than to see you succeed.
That, for me is what keeps me coming back to this gym. The camaraderie, the light-competition among members and the feeling of belonging to an elite group of people.
This gym is not for the feint of heart or for those who don't take their fitness seriously. But, if you are up to the challenges and want to be apart of great group of fit and healthy people, Crossfit Long Beach is for you. -

If you are looking for a gym that makes you feel at home from day one this is the place!
My wife and I joined Cross Fit Long Beach in April 2011 (completed On-Ramp). We are completely hooked and look forward to our daily WOD. Carlos (go lower on that squat, Robin!) Cueva, Julia (come up in one piece, Robin!) Delgado, Wendy (that looks a little better, Robin!) Hormann were my coaches for On Ramp and were very helpful, friendly and made sure you were completing all your exercises correctly to avoid injuries. I don't mean to scare anyone but let me tell you that you have no idea what soreness is until you join Cross Fit Long Beach LOL. What is great is that you find yourself loving the soreness and looking forward to next Day's workout. You learn to push yourself harder than ever before and they help you to realize that you are capable of completing any workout that is put up on the whiteboard. As noted by Fernando in a prior review, this is not just a workout but a culture. I have also been able to Join the Olympic Lifting class a couple of times and that has been very beneficial to getting comfortable with lifting. Chad (your using a girls bar, Robin!) Cross, Gina (looking good, Robin!) Caywood and Landon (don't look at me when I talk to you, Robin!) Prairie are my Oly coaches and definitely make you feel comfortable in class regardless of your lifting skill level.
If this is not enough to convince you to join Cross Fit Long Beach maybe this will help. Since I joined Cross Fit Long Beach I have dropped 27lbs and lost 3 inches from my waist and all that was in 3 months. I feel great and can't wait for what's to come. Maybe even six pack abs!! Thank you to all the Cross Fit Long Beach Coaches and all Cross Fit Long Beach Members for being so supportive. -

I have been training at Crossfit Long beach for two months now and can honestly say that I feel that I am getting into the best shape of my life.
I have been working out in some form or another for the last twenty plus years. I was a Marine many years ago and am actually in better shape at 40, in the last two months, than I was then. This is no exaggeration.
I actually have a purpose to my training. On my own I sometimes felt like I was on an aimless quest for fitness. I now have a roadmap to help me attain something that had been so illusive before. I am well on my way to actual fitness.
I enjoy many things about this place. The trainers ,Chad, Gina and Mike, are knowledgeable, down to earth, friendly and concerned that I not only get fit, but also that I am safe in the process. They are right there to assist, teach and or correct a movement.
I also enjoy the healthy competition in this gym. I happen to thrive on that.
I enjoy the group of people that I have gotten to know. I am always getting supported and encouraged as I train. This place has a small town feel because you get to know and train along side the people that you have met. At larger gyms I have often felt like a stranger.
There is a place for everyone here. Every workout is scalable to your fitness level. I have worked out next to seniors and young wipper snappers. Each one of us gets a great workout. I love that. You are never too old to get in the best shape of your life. You will be pushed to do things that you would never have believed yourself capable of.
Now get off the couch and get in shape! -

This place is awesome.
As a caveat, some of the workouts are straight up brutal...
Since I've started working out here I am basically always sore... in places that I didn't know I could be sore... sometimes it hurts to walk or sit down, but in a good way...
Chad is a great instructor, he's very patient.
I wish I didn't have to work I would go here everyday. -

I've been working out there since May 09. It's a perfect fit to my busy schedule, and helps keep me in the best shape of my life (at age 36).
I've been practicing martial arts for over ten years, and have always found new ways to keep myself in shape. In early 2009, I developed a nasty case of pneumonia, and wasn't able to train for 10 weeks. Previously I had been very consistant with working out, and felt I was in great shape, but after the bought I wasn't sure I'd ever get back into top shape again.
I heard about crossfit from a co-worker of mine, and we decided to check Crossfit Long Beach out, in hopes of shocking my system back into shape. It has worked.
Chad Cross is a great instructor. He not only teaches proper technique, but has pushed me into pushing myself to new levels of fitness. The best thing about Crossfit Long Beach is the way the students help each other out. Everyone is there to push themselves, and also help you push yourself. There is a no quit attitude in Crossfit Long Beach. I really appreciate that, because I know I would not push myself as hard as they get me to push myself. Each time I go, sore or not, I end up leaving exhausted and telling everyone and anyone who'll listen to what I had to do that night, or the day before.
I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into good shape and wanting to feel good. It's definitely worth it! -

This place is SIC...in a good way.
There are two programs running at this facility: 1) a "Cross Fit" Fitness program and 2) a Martial Arts program.
The Cross Fit program incorporates different exercises within a one hour time frame. The class is usually separated between the beginners and advanced students. Travis, the instructor and owner, will plan a circuit training course for the session which will emphasize a particular set of muscles. I thought it a bit odd that Travis would name his courses after women. For example, he'll put up "Diana or some name" on the board and that will mean that you need to do 25 sit ups, 10 chin ups 10 burpies, and 20 push ups. However odd I may think this part is, this is still an awesome program. They also offer a Kettlebells class.
In regards to the martial arts, Travis is one of the most experienced, well rounded instructors in the area. You can tell he's a good teacher because he would rather have you go slow and get the technique right than punch your heart out but do it wrong. There are several different martial arts classes available: Kickboxing levels 1 & 2, Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu, MMA and 3 different styles of Kali ( Mainstream, Atienza and Sayoc) Atienza and Sayoc are more intense styles of Kali incorporating knives and swords. You sorta need a permission slip to join these last two classes
Some of these students are hard core. Not only are they in great shape but they can kick some major ass. Most of the students are guys but there is a scattering of women. It's inspiring to watch these guys do their thing.Listed in: My Neighborhood

This is the place to go if you want to pay for a hellish workout and to see results. Good people train here at all athletic levels.
Travis, Alfredo, Chad, Drew and Mike are various levels of masochists. I've never done so many squats, burpees, wall balls, pull ups, box jumps, situps, pushups, did I mention squats? in my life.
They offer a free class and a free one-on-one session to get you started. Best investment I've ever made.

LOVE these guys! The workouts are tough, but they make them really fun, and I'm challenged at my own level.
I didn't have much experience with olympic weightlifting before I came, and Chad really took the time to make sure I had good form to avoid injury. I never knew I could climb a rope or do a real pull-up before CrossFit! -

I've been a member here since the backyard days.
The instructor's here are some of the best you'll find in southern CA. No Bull.
It's transitioned into Crossfit Long Beach mainly, and I can't wait to get all sweaty and hypoxic while Travis chuckles maniacally at my wobbly quads.
It's also the only place to get Sayoc and Atienza Kali in LA County. Apart from a training group in the OC, Integrated is the only place you'll get it in southern California.
I can't speak highly enough of the level of professionalism, fun, and awesomeness that exists between the walls there. You will go, and it will be good. -

I'm not sure what else I could add to what the others have written. By no means are they exaggerating. The workouts are brutal but crossfit shows how far you can push yourself. I've been working out off and on my entire life and I can honestly say I've never gotten a better workout.
The great thing about CrossFit is that if you have confidence issues the workouts will help build your confidence. If you're cocky and overally confident and think you're in great shape, it will bring you back down to earth.
As for Chad and Gina, they are great. Very knowledgable, patient and really get the most out of you. Plus everyone that comes in for a workout is fantastic. Everyone WANTS to be there and everyone helps motivate each other. Its a very positive atmosphere. -

Just started working out here. They adhere to the main Crossfit WOD's and the instructor Chad Cross knows how to change it to fit any level of fitness your in. One more thing, Chad and staff will teach you the right way on a technical level to perform the exercises and workouts. They also have a on-ramp program that will ramp you up to begin performing the normal workouts.

I had been pretty much sedentary for six years before coming here. And I admit, at first it was tough-going. Very tough-going. But the trainers were so encouraging and spent a lot of time helping me build up my strength and stamina, that I started seeing results surprisingly quickly.
In less than two months I was wearing a favorite dress I hadn't been able to squeeze into since my first pregnancy. And not even sucking in my gut! The first day of class, I couldn't run a measly 200 m without suffering a wheezing attack. Now I can run (okay, briskly jog) 800 m without too much trouble. I can do a pull up and climb a rope, which I haven't done since I was like eight years old. Forgot how much fun that was! My husband's a little scared of me now, but I think he secretly likes the idea of having a wife who can deadlift more than him.
But enough about me. The coaches at CrossFit Long Beach are the best thing about the place. They're just incredibly nice people and really know what they're doing. I look forward to each and every workout, even knowing that I will suffer through it and quite possibly even puke (which I'm proud to say I haven't done yet).
I'm so glad I decided to finally get off my keister and come here. This is the best I've felt in years; honestly, since I can remember. -

I'm probably just reiterating everything that has already been said, but Crossfit Long Beach is great and it keeps getting better. Currently, working out here 3-4 times a week, is the only time in my life I've ever looked forward to exercising. You never have to wait for equipment, you don't have to figure out what workout to do and wonder whether or not its effective, you always have knowledgeable trainers available, all workouts can be scored to track your progress, and the workouts are constantly changing to keep things interesting. At a glance the price tag looks high, until you realize you are getting small group training sessions up to 6 days a week and thus its a steal.
In short, come visit if you want to have a great time and meet great people all the while suffering through the hardest, most effective workouts of your life. And this applies to people of all ages, shapes, and fitness levels. -

CrossFit is Superman's Wheaties! And their mascot is a puking clown.
Don't be intimidated by the workouts, that's usually the advanced level. Workouts are scaled down to accommodate any level of fitness. Don't worry if you cant do a push-up or pull-up - you have the rest of your life to get there. After 5 weeks I have lost 18 lbs, have more energy everyday and have gained motivation and mental toughness.
CFLB is a friendly environment with really good camaraderie, Chad and Gina are not only great instructors but great people too. Chad (Cross) puts the Cross in CrossFit!
So join the free class on Saturday and take a sip of the Kool-Aid -

This place is amazing. First of all, I do not like working out. Yet somehow these guys put me through the most grueling and intense workouts I have ever been through and I want to come back and I am excited to do it! In fact, I sit through an hour of traffic just to go to this particular Crossfit because everyone is super nice and it is a very encouraging group of people that you become close to very fast. I started a month and a half ago and have seen my performance and strength improve drastically and I can do a kipping pullup! Chad is very nice and helpful and his wife Gina is amazing. She really helps out in a unique way. Check this place out. You will be so happy you did.
