    I Love Them :]

i have 2 aussies and foster golden retrievers, i got a golden retriever in bad condition lastnight and was told he has no fleas. today i found two so i called Critter Clippers hoping their is an opening (because i dont want my other dogs to get  them also) and they are able to cut out the mats that the previous owners neglected to do.

i brought my aussie their once and was very glad of the outcome of her. Everyone in there were very nice and really know how to treat animals.

lets hope the outcome of the golden retriever can help get him into a loving forever home :]

I needed to find a place that would groom my Main Coon, and there are very few places that do that without putting them under. My cat is a youngster so I wasn't sure how she was going to respond to the grooming process.

The place is a little tricky to find in the shopping center. The groomer came out in the waiting room with me and did a consultation on what look we were going for since it was my cat's first time there. I ended up going just for a shaved down look to make her look like a short haired kitty.

I stayed the whole time to watch and see how my cat would respond. While I waited in the comfy gift shop area lots of repeat customers came in with their dogs and one with their cat to get it's nails trimmed.
Overall the customers seemed happy with their service and the workers were all very polite and looked genuinely happy to see the dogs.

Unfortunately my cat's hair cut (no wash) cost in the three figures because they need two people, one to hold one to cut. I was given a warning when I made the appointment so it was not a surprise. Luckily my cat takes  good care of herself I just wanted her and my vacuum to have some relief in the summer. I would make another appointment for my kitty next year.

    NEVER AGAIN

After I brought my Pomeranian here the last time, he was yelping when I barely touched him from having been in so much pain after getting groomed at Critter Clipper.  After that, I decided it was the last time I would bring my dog here.  My Pomeranian has a super thick coat that gets heavily matted.  When I picked up my dog, she apparently saved it all in a plastic bag and showed it to me with a look of disgust on her face.  I've been to other groomers since then that can get the mattes out in a gentle and humane way that doesn't leave my dog traumatized every time he goes to the groomers.

Not only that, they are very expensive.  For the $100+ that they charge, I would think that they should not only give your dog a great cut, but know how to deal with dogs.   Not to mention Rosemary nicked my dog one time, and then denied it.  Since then, I've taken my dog to see Lisa at A Dog's Life in Palo Alto, and my dog comes back looking amazing and happy EVERY time.  Plus, they only charge $65 and she hand cuts his thick fur each time and completely demattes him without leaving him in pain.

    ----------------

In response to your comment, Linda, yes, this is the reason I refuse to bring my dog back to see Rosemary.  My dog was in so much pain after I brought him to your grooming salon that I decided I would never bring him back again!

For those that are marking this review as funny, you can go F yourself for marking a review about a dog suffering as funny.  You are clearly an a-hole or more than likely the owners/workers at this crummy, overpriced and overrated establishment.

    Was this review …?

I drove by this place last night and saw a "People on Yelp love us" sticker and nearly wrecked my car. Not this person on Yelp!

After moving here from Sac 5 years ago, we were looking for a new groomer. We stumbled on this place after doing some grocery shopping nearby, so we gave it a shot.

First, the staff was very rude and was critical about the way we hadn't been brushing our dog (let's save comments like that after we're established customers, please).

Then, the grooming itself was the worst grooming our dog has had to this day. Keep in mind, we now get him groomed at Petco, which is "below" our standards for him, but a particular groomer at a particular Petco came recommended, so we gave it a shot. Haven't had a bad experience with them yet. However, this "upscale" groomer gave us the ugliest cut we've seen. We were too embarrassed to say anything when we picked him up.

Then, if that's not enough, they cut him. A pretty bad gash, too. The only time in his 6 year old life he's been cut by a groomer. He always behaves at the groomer, so it wasn't like it was him moving that did it. The groomer even admitted he behaved very well. She just cut him. Accidents happen, but don't criticize how we brush and keep our dog and then do something we or no other groomer has ever done to him.

And then, as if none of that isn't enough, they charged us $85 for a small poodle. UNREAL. By far, the most expensive grooming we've ever paid for. And we went to an "upscale" groomer in Sacramento. This is double what the place in Sac charged. And double what we pay now.

I'll never be back to this place, I'll never recommend it, and I'll never understand why they have that Yelp sticker on their door.

Great groomers.  After a long search, I finally found a knowledgeable and experience groomer.

They are pricey, but worth the money because they take the time to brush out my dog.

The facility is clean and I will definitely come back.

This is the place to take your pets! I own two dogs, Berlin and Capone and they both love going to Critter Clippers. The atmosphere is great, I can tell that the staff truly cares for each animal. The dogs are put into a kennel while waiting to be groomed or picked up. My Cavapoo, Capone is always cut really well and looks great!

This place is expensive & you need to book appointments in advance.

After over a year of searching for a non-vet groomer, I found a great one.

My Scottish Fold won't let me come near him with a brush and his long hair is an issue. He's a wonderful loving cat, except when it comes to grooming; that's when the fighter in him comes out.  I've found the groomers at the vets go directly to conscious sedation when he gets out of hand, but that adds tons of cost, risk to the animal, and time. I know that good groomers understand cats and work WITH them, instead of trying to force them to conform.

Anyway, the owner and I had numerous emails in order to accommodate my odd schedule. She has a great cat groomer, but she's not there all the time. I took in Chim Chim, met the owner and then the actual groomer came out and went over every detail of the process and actually came up with a better "look." (I'd always just done a "lion cut," but her idea was a little less severe).

Two hours later he was ready. He looks amazing, smells amazing (not like perfume) and even my other cat is less hostile (since he smells different) than in the past. Unlike other groomers, she was very comfortable holding and carrying Chim Chim. It showed me how well she "gelled" with my cat, who is traditionally, very difficult for strangers to interact with.

At $135, it's pricey, but worth every dime. Considering he gets groomed every 6 months, $135 is nothing! The vet grooming sometimes debacle often topped $300 with all the anesthesia and equipment, etc.

    I highly recommend Critter Clippers!

I'm a cat owner, and this review is for cat owners only.  The dogs getting groomed here looked perfectly happy.  However, I didn't see any other cats there, and I think there's a reason for it.

We have a long-haired cat that we wanted to get shaved.  We'd had a successful experience at the PetCo on El Camino (which I recommend!!!), but Critter Clipper was getting better reviews on Yelp, so we thought we'd try it....

    My Experience:

When I called to make the appointment, the receptionist suggested 11am.  But by the time the groomer called us to say that they were having some trouble grooming our cat, it was after 2pm.  What was he doing for three hours?  Apparently, sitting in his carrying case, in a cubbyhole, in a room full of barking dogs.  And you're surprised that the cat is irritated and hard to groom?!  Hell, *I* would be irritated and hard to groom after three hours of that.  Anyway, at 3pm I'm there to pick up my un-groomed cat, who at this point has soiled himself and is now growling and hissing and raging in his carrying case (I've *never* seen him like this in 5 years of owning him).

Then the groomer starts repeating over and over that I should've made an appointment for the end of the day, because that's when most of the dogs are gone.  Really, it's *my* responsibility to know this?  Why doesn't the receptionist know this?  The groomer says "Well, next time..."

The worst part about this is that that evening our cat had urinary blockage for this first time in his life.  We had to take him to the emergency room and he was hospitalized for three days.  The vet asserts that this was a coincidental co-occurrence, and not stress-induced.  I'm not about to blame a grooming business for a $1,500 vet bill and three days of kitty suffering, but...

Now keep in mind I am a newbie to the dog grooming scene, so knowing what's a good price is not the basis of this review.

This past holiday season, I decided Bessie could use a good bath to wash out all the everyday grit and grime her coat had been accumulating since we adopted her in November. Based on Critter Clipper's reviews, my boyfriend and I coordinated a drop off/pick up one two combo to get Bessie an appointment for a grooming session mid-week late afternoon.

The results: Critter Clipper does a great job grooming my dog. Bessie's coat is fairly short, and so her visit only costs us $54, compared to some of the higher end prices I've noted for other lengths of fur on their website, but their quality of work is noticeable. Her coat was impressively soft and she smelled very clean, not to mention, she didn't seem stressed out or anxious to leave when I came to pick her up.

Bonuses: Critter Clipper has squeezed me in last minute on a weekend for a grooming session without any of the nasty 'ugh-what-do-you-want' attitude and on a separate occasion, took her out for a walk when I was unable to come immediately after work  to retrieve her.

I like the work that they do, and it appears that Bessie has no complaints either. We shall be continuing our visits, in hopes that the fantastic service we've been receiving keeps on comin'.

This morning I looked at my mini Schnauzer and realized things were getting a tad bit out of control- her leg hair was very long, scraggly and matted, her eyebrows were wild and her coat was getting so long that her hair was looking way curlier than it's supposed to look on a schnauzer. On top of that she smelled bad and had dried food stuck on her beard that I just couldn't get out. To sum it up, she was a MESS.

I called every place I could find on Yelp in Fremont, Newark, Union City, Milpitas, Hayward, San Leandro, Castro Valley and San Jose but they were all booked solid. I had no idea it was so hard to make a last minute appointment at a pet grooming place, since this is the first time I've owned a dog! Critter Clipper was the last place on my list of places to call before giving up, and it just so happened that they were able to make space in their busy schedule for my puppy.

Yes, Mountain View is pretty far away from Fremont but the results made it totally worth it. Juno, our puppy, walked out of there looking beautiful! The way they cut her hair really accentuated her breed and she looked like a cute little showdog when we came to pick her up. They did a great job! I was very pleased.

Everyone that works there is really nice and one can immediately tell that everyone there loves dogs upon walking through the door. They all seemed very happy to be there (so did all the dogs!) and the environment was very upbeat and positive.

I definitely recommend Critter Clipper. They are a little bit pricier than other places I've looked into but it is 100% worth it.

The staff is terrific and take great care of our dog.  We have a Coton du Tulear that requires a lot of maintenance and we have worked out a very good schedule with the folks at critter clippers that is affordable.

Our dog is rather shy but is always very happy both going to and being picked up from critter clippers - they take great care of him.

I have and will again recommend them to anyone.

I don't have anything for comparison but I was really pleased with this place and the groomers.

The facility looks great - small, clean and bright.  There were two grooming tables and about four dogs there when I dropped Ada off.  All the dogs seemed comfortable (no barking or nervousness).

The groomers and staff were very friendly and thorough.  Before I left we agreed on the look of her new 'do and all the treatments Ada would be getting. (We decided to skip toothbrushing because her puppy teeth are all loose and falling out.)

They said it would take 3-4 hours but Ada was done in about 2.5.  When I picked her up she was gorgeous, happy, and tired. (I was particularly impressed by what a thorough job they did plucking her inner ear hair.)

I highly recommend!  After a long search since we moved back to area we found Critter Clipper.

We are happy with Juliya who grooms our two Coton De Tulears. She is knowledgeable, calm, and loves our dogs.  Linda, the owner is very professional and cares for our canine kids too.

The salon is very clean, bright and has a calming, peaceful atmosphere.  Linda maintains her appointments well.

One of our dogs who is not fond of grooming with other groomers we have used,  when we brought her in today, she went prancing into the grooming area happy to be there.

I agree with the other reviews that it is pricey compared to other groomers but it's worth our peace of mind to know that our dogs are handled properly during the 4 hours that they are there.  When we pick up our dogs they do not look stressed.  And we notice the same thing with the other dog clients going to Critter Clipper.

I took my Maine Coon cat here for the first time today and glad I did.

Everything about it was a positive experience.  I called them on Friday and they were able to take me in the next day.  Everyone there is SUPER friendly, especially Rosemary who is the lady who grooms cats.  The place is clean, and I love the fact that everything is out in the open, so you can see the grooming being done.

I explained all my concerns to Rosemary, and when we picked our kitty up, she made sure everything was to our liking.  He was slightly damp, which could have been sweat from being a little nervous, so she gladly took him back and dried and combed him some more.  She also invited us back there so we can be with him.  I thought that was cool :-)

Ziggy smells and looks great.  Will definitely go back!

Took off a star for being a little pricey.

    One Word. . . Ahhhhh. . mazing!!!
I left my last groomers because my dog was always upset coming and going as well as the fact that they never had anything nice to say about him.  They berated me about his matts--i mean thats what they get paid for so what's the need?. . . anyways. . this place is wonderful!!!! The ladies were nice! My baby was soooo happy . . very comfortable there!  His haircut is beyond cute!!! I looooove this place and would go back in a heartbeat.  Price was a little high, but it is worth it for a happy pup!!! Thanks for treating my lil one sooo good.  I really appreciate it!

Very nice people, they do good work, I have 2 very happy & good-looking dogs - what more can one ask for? Not sure why the mean-spirited comments from a couple other Yelpers? I've tried several local pet grooming places and this pet grooming business is excellent. Yes, it's expensive, but I felt they great delivered value for the cost. I especially appreciated that the dogs are in kennels you can see from the front desk - rather than hidden in a back room where you can't see them. The animals can watch what is going on in the grooming room while they wait their turns, and they all seemed very content - even the few kitty cats I see once in a while.

I was referred to the Critter Clipper by my sister.  She had her Siamese groomed there a couple of months ago and she looks great.

So I decided to bring my Maine Coon in.  When I got there we heard some barking dogs, but that went under control fast by the staff.  They knew they had to calm the dogs down for my cat to be groomed.  We went into the room and the grooming job was done in less than 30 mins.  She knew exactly what she was doing and we were out of there in a short period.  My  cat seem to love her new do, and I love it because it helps with the allergies. I definitely will bring her back again for another grooming job when her hair grows back out.

We took the dog to this "spa" - decent looking and good location. The dog went in all cute and came out looking like an ugly rat - they were so lazy to use the scissors and just used clipper 0. And in the name of cleaning the anal glands they irritated it so bad, the dog which never scooted has started scooting and is on meds now. Put simply waste of a good 100 bucks - take it elsewhere!

One of only two groomers I have ever encountered that can do a good comb out of my dog (I comb regularly as well but big dog + double coat = a lot of combing). For double coated breeds, I've found that most places just brush the top coat, which can actually be harmful if they bathe the dog, which causes the undercoat to mat, preventing the skin from drying completely. I would drive out of my way to take my dog here because it's just that good.

I just got my two yorkies back from Critter Clippers and I couldn't be happier! They did an amazing job with both of them and the price was totally reasonable!

I brought them here after the little girl was butchered at the Petsmart groomer. They rubbed her raw in two spots and then didn't cut her head because she was biting and still charged me full price. I would bite too if someone was hurting me!

Critter Clippers had no problems with her at all. Not a single bite! Both dogs are happy as can be! This will the groomer I go to and recommend as long as I live in the Penninsula!

I took my dog to Critter Clipper today and couldn't have been happier.  (I had tried to get him in at The Barking Lot, but since they never returned my calls, I took him to Critter Clipper).

I called this past Saturday to see if I could make an appointment for my dog, and I really figured it would be after the holidays before they would be able to get him him.  They put him on the waiting list in case they had any cancellations, but they called me right back and said they just had a cancellation and could get me in on Tuesday (today).

His appointment was for 3:00 and he was ready for pick up by 6:00.  The staff at Critter Clipper were all incredibly nice.

The groomer did an excellent job with him and I was very pleased with how he looked.  He didn't seem traumatized or anything.  I felt like the charge to have him groomed there was reasonable.

    I highly recommend Critter Clipper!

I took my dogs there in January 2009 and I was very pleased. They are expensive and it's very difficult to get an appointment but definately worth the wait and the price.

I've been to several places in Mountain View including Pet Smart, PetCo, and Heidi's. These places have disappointed me on more than one occasion. PetSmart hires amateur groomers who are just plain mean and rude. PetCo always delivers my pets with either a cut or a rash and Heidi's was just plain weird.

After a full day at CritterClipper's, my dogs came out looking fabulous. The haircut was perfect. Their nails were cut perfectly and they even expressed the anal glands which most other places don't do. More importantly, I was pretty happy with the people there. My dogs were happy too.

Yes, there are cheaper places but I've learned my lesson. Never again will I take my places to box stores for grooming. I will pay the extra cost for the peace of mind.

Also, for those that can't afford the high cost on a regular basis, I recommend Petfood Express self-wash on a bi-weekly basis ($15) and CC once every few months. This seems to work well for me.

i've had my dog groomed at many places now, of course with petsmart being the worst by far. after that, i decided to suck it up and just pay more for a better haircut and overall experience for my dog.

anyone who knows me knows that my dog is excessively sweet and friendly with licks for everyone. everyone loves my dog. he is extremely passive and sweet. never bit anyone. when i first got my dog, at home baths were a piece of cake. after petsmart, he began to be terrified of at home baths. also, my dog would try everything that he could to run away from the petsmart grooming area. he would start shaking when he was led behind the counter.

when i tried critter clipper, wow. excellent. my dog loves loves loves going over to this groomer. he's always happy to be led behind the counter. the female boss is super nice and she seems so experienced with dogs. their front staff is absolutely wonderful. I wish their staff would teach everyone in the whole world how to treat customers like they do! one time, the front desk girl told me that she had alot of fun playing with my dog. yay! she played with him! he loves to socialize and play. it seems to me that i'm paying for grooming and day care service. jeez! lol. excellent. its a little pricey at $90, but i only go a couple times a year. its a bit much for me, but its well worth it.

Once again, Linda and the folks at Critter Clipper are amazing! I asked for Linda to order some of the fantastic organic doggy shampoo products for me to use on my Italian greyhounds (sensitive skinned girls!) With 5 days, Linda had my product for me and was so helpful! What a great place! What wonderful people! Thank you!

I have a 10 month old golden doodle who is a very challenging dog to groom (she's white and she can be fussy).  They did a great job.  Definitely expensive, so expect that, but very kind and courteous staff, very knowledgeable.  They did a great job with my dog.  I think it's worth the extra money.  Hard to get an appointment though -- better to call a couple of weeks in advance.

Our matted cat had to be shaved.  Critter Clipper's staff treated our kitty so lovingly, and what could have been a traumatic event, wasn't!  He didn't need to be sedated, as he would have been if we'd gone with a vet.  Our cat is so active now that his mats are gone, and I know if the need arrises for another shave, we'll be back.  They were fast, efficient, caring, and accommodating.  They were also upfront in giving me a price range, and though it was a bit more than I'd hoped, their estimate was right on.

Linda (the owner) groomed my standard poodle, Jack,  for 11 of his 12 years.  She's the best.  I trusted her and Jack absolutely loved her!  I recommend her to every pet owner I know.

My two Tibetan spaniels had never been professionally groomed, since their breed isn't supposed to be clipped. We've always taken them to have their nails done, tho. When our favorite groomer moved away, I searched Yelp for a recommendation for a new groomer. I decided on Critter Clipper since it was so close to our house. I called and was able to get my boys in that afternoon for their "pawticures." While I was waiting, another customer came to pick up her dog, a GSD, and she said, 'OMG! He looks like he lost 50 pounds!" It was because the groomer had done such a good job of getting out the loose undercoat.

My Bono's coat is thick enough for three dogs, and I wondered what he would look like with his loose undercoat gone. I made an appt. for the following Saturday. His appointment was at 1:00 and he was ready to be picked up by 3:30. I couldn't believe how much loose fur they were able to take off him! I wasn't there to see how they dried him, but almost a week later, his coat is still shiny and clean. His tail is so full and so beautiful! I'll definitely be taking him back next time he needs it.

BTW, Kevin was Bono's groomer. My boys loved him and I did, too. His love for animals is so obvious, and that's more important than anything else, AFAIC.

    Thanks, Kevin and Critter Clipper!

We love Critter Clipper. Everybody, and i do mean everybody is extremely nice and very professional. They make you feel like it's a small town business that cares about your pet. We have been taking our beloved pitbull there now for almost 9 mo's and could not be happier!

Great, professional place to take your pet to get clipped and clean. In the past, Kevin did a great job with my dog, Ally. Most recently Maria and Pam helped me out with getting a satisfactory grooming experience.

I tried this place out based on a recommendation from a co-workers since they had their shih tzu coming here for a years so I decided to try them out.  The groomer did a good job with my shih tzu, as good as the Pet Smart in Mountain View or San Jose but they charge double the price.  I had both my dogs groomed and the total came out to be $200 without tip.  This place does a great job but not affordable for me since I groom my dogs about every 8-10 weeks.

My doggie looked good when I picked him up, but not any better than when I take him to the cheaper groomers.  Slightly expensive...

I love Critter Clipper! I have a Jack Russell and I am very particular about how she is taken care of. The staff at CC is great. My dog received the best of care and she looked great! They are friendly and caring and I would recommend them to anyone who cares about their pet. I am thrilled to have found them.
