Honestly, 300-plus reviews don't lie: This is a 5-star gem all the way.

There is so much going on here. It's much more than a park, although you can do everything you can in a park. It's a place for family reunions, dogs on the beach, hikes through hills and gravel, views of the bridge, water, Alcatraz...I am so happy when I visit this place when I am in SF.

Warning: I fall for this everytime. Just because the bridge seems close, it's farther than it appears. It's probably 2 miles from most points. I made the mistake of walking through Crissy Field on my way to the bridge from Coit Tower on Thanksgiving. Once I walked across the bridge and back and back to where I was staying near Coit, I must have logged 11-12 miles. Can you say sore?

Still it was worth it. We don't have anything like this in Chicago!

The pier is wonderful!!

I learned that you can fish and crab off the pier without license :)    You can't keep the dungeness crab, and just the rock crabs.  They still taste great and  it was fun crabbing!

One caution is tie down your baits cage for crab with multiple ties.. We lost all 3 bait cages as the sea lions were so smart.  They bite down the tie and took the cages.

The restrooms are being remodel, so there are portables outside

My most absolute favorite place to go running.  At least once or twice a week I run in Crissy field.

Not only are there plenty of other hot guys/gals hanging out around here, there are plenty of cuteeeee doggies running around (I WISH I HAD A DOG....)

Plus what better to have your daily jog then next to the beach right next to the bay, with the waves crashing and the Golden Gate to keep you company.  It's even more amazing around sunset.  Only downside is it's not well lit at night and its hard to see (probably to protect the local fauna)

If you get a chance, walk/run to the GG bridge and hit hoppers hands while getting an awesome view of the bridge.

Huge open fields, beaches with dog access, dog watering fountains & every sort of dog to play with. Yes, this is dog heaven.

But if you don't have a dog - Crissy Field has beautiful views and wonderful walking, hiking, bike riding, old Fort Point (which I think is haunted) & bird watching park. A good place for BBQs, sun tanning & kids playing. On a sunny day in SF this might be one of my most favorite places in the city however please remember most days aren't sunny so bring cash so you can buy your self a coffee or a sweatshirt (no ATMS for miles).

Crissy Field reminds me how much I love living in SF.

I want to like Crissy Field, but I haven't actually done anything there that was really fun, except walk out to Fort Point and freeze my fingers and toes off in September.
I enjoyed seeing the families having picnics and I really like the drummer and his guitarist who obviously had no studio to practice in, jamming their hearts out on the grass.
This park also gets an extra star for actually having parking! I mean, I have a car so I don't have to take public transportation to enjoy my weekends.

Oh man, why do I never come here? Beautiful!

People livin' their life...  playing volleyball, bbqing, lovers makin' plans, families playin' in the sand, me saying "aloha" to Mr. Hand.

We walked along the bay and let our feet get splashed by the water. This probably woulda been a good time to cue up an old Chris de burgh jam, maybe even an uptempo version of " Ballroom of Romance." Or even UB40 ?

This part of the city makes me love SF. Get over here and escape from the fast pace of it all. Oh , and you can bring your dog.

BBQ at Crissy Field!  Whoo-hoo.

Folks seem to have arrived earlier this year to stake out a table.  Hubby was trying to claim an unmarked table (no food, items on it) and almost got into it with a couple of people which Jr. Yelper thought was a "hobo" sleeping on top of the picnic table.  Turns out it was a couple of folks trying to claim 4 tables while sleeping on one.  Didn't they know you can't claim multiple tables like that (hog 4?  Come on!) .

It was overcast without being windy.  The sun finally came out and it turned out to be a nice day.  I took a jog along the path and the sculpted planet earths are no longer on display.  All the tables were gone.  Folks are having fun hosting BBQs than traveling out of town.  One group had lovely red table cloths under a nice canopy.  People sure do know how to have fun.

This is one of the best parks I've ever been to.

Last night I ran/jogged/walked my first marathon here (JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge).  It was a 5k (3.5 mile) run.  I had a great time.  Not only did I have a good time getting in shape and in my first marathon but I could not stop looking at the wonderful scenery.  The view of the golden gate bridge was to die for.  Seeing the water glisten as the sun went down was sooooo romantic and a perfect picture from a book.

All the jogger/runners were out with their dogs, children or alone.  Very, very clean and peaceful.

This was my very first time at the park and I loved it.

The houses were HUGE in that neighborhood.  I think I will try and get out here at least once a month.

The only sucky thing was parking ;(  but I'll manage w/that for this perfect place!!!

This is such a beautiful area...I'm lucky that I live so close!

There's tons of free parking right at Crissy Field or you can drive down further and there's a big lot down there.  If you're down at that end, you can watch the fishermen on the pier and step into The Warming Hut for a latte, or take a walk further down to Fort Point and watch the surfers and stand almost directly under the bridge.  There are also picnic areas with BBQs available if you're so inclined.

If you're a runner like I am, you'll love it.  The path is extra wide, the surface is flat, and you get to run on a packed sand/dirt/gravel path, so it's a little easier on your knees.  (Added bonus is that you get to listen to the crunching gravel sound when you run...love that.)  It can be a little windy, but that's a small price to pay for the beautiful surroundings and views of the Golden Gate, Marin, Alcatraz, and East Bay.  You can also hear the water lapping and often hear the foghorns blaring.  Of course, there are no stop signs or lights, so you don't have to worry about getting hit by a car!

Make sure to visit even if you just want to sit and watch the kites and windsurfers.  You won't be disappointed.

Great place to relax and have a picnic, or go for a walk.  You can also just sit down and look out over the Bay.   I have very fond memories of watching the Fourth of July fireworks over the bay from here.  It is amazing!  I miss home...

Lots of people and free parking, so what's not to like?

Today was a really really windy for a friend's going away picnic, birds came to freeload off of us. There were a few tables, so we got one.

Remember to bring a kite, this is the place to fly them. Many people also bike around here too. Swim suit? It's hardly ever sunny. Frisbee for the dogs. Most importantly, BRING A CAMERA!!!!!! Pics of your kids, dog, people, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge...you'll want to remember it all.

I would most definitely come back on a sunny day, but I can't imagine how crowded it would be.

My entire extended family camped out at Crissy Field today. Some of us went crabbing while others hung out with the meat on the grill. This park has so much to offer for all ages. All of my nieces and nephews got to run, scream and jump around -no one seemed to mind, because their kids were doing the same things.

It got a bit cold with the fog rolled in. But the view was amazing. Nothing beats seeing fog roll over the Golden Gate. Will be back to enjoy it again!

I cannot believe that I only discovered this magical place only after I got my dog two years ago. I am embarrassed to say I am from San Francisco and I have never ventured here before!

I think everyone else pretty much summed up how great this place is and I agree 100%.  Any opportunity I get to come to Crissy Field I take.  My dog absolutely loves it here!  Dogs can roam around off leash, no problem.  Keep in mind it gets really busy on sunny days, but that's to be expected.  Although, if you walk further down along the beach there are less people.  There's a also a nice trial to jog on.  And, the view of the Golden Gate Bridge is breathtaking!  If you haven't already gone here get up and go now!

I came here for the first time last week with my dog.  My prior reasoning for not coming here was that a) it's far from where I live - the trek from SOMA is at least 15 minutes, and my dog starts whining every time we're in the car for more than 10 minutes, and b) I don't really like the Marina all that much.

I knocked all those thoughts out on Saturday and decided that, since I needed some personal time after a busy week, my Gizpup and I would wander over and I could let him off-leash to wear him out for the night.

Of course, the drive took longer because it was Saturday evening around 7, and Gizmo started whining and looking out the window anxiously, wiping his snot everywhere.  At long last, we arrived, and I was happy to see that it wasn't crowded, since the sun was about to set.

The Gizpup and I walked around and watched the sunset together (how romantic), and since it was his first time at the beach ever, I was glad the waves weren't overwhelming, since he kept barking at the water.  Overall, it was really peaceful and quiet, and the views were, of course, amazing.  The beach was also much, much cleaner than Ocean Beach.

I'll definitely be coming back here on a regular basis with Gizmo, mostly because he'll be able to run around off-leash and explore, and I'll have a good walking path to de-stress from work.  Love this place!

I am always reminded every time I walk along crissy fields trail with the magnificent view of the golden gate bridge and the cool bay breeze gently blowing against my skin, how fortunate I am to live in the bay area and to live so close to this beautiful city .

The park is extremely well kept. TheTourist spot with a little gift shop is cute with a nice little cafe and decent food. Bike trails as well as walking trails, the beautiful beach to go walking along with benches placed throughout perfect for picnics and to bring your doggies, let them splash in the water and have their fun.

Always pleasant and always beautiful, truly one of my absolute favorite spots to go walking or just sit in the park and engage the incredible views.

Thank you, Crissy Field, for offering your grounds to throw a football around at after work on a beautiful San Francisco day so that now my arm is in throbbing pain and every time I reach to grab a paper from the printer I feel spasms running up to my shoulder.

It was a perfect Sunday. The sun gathered all of its courage to challenge the San Francisco gloom and won. The villagers rejoiced with streaming banners and confetti rained down onto the streets.  Shutters were thrown open and coats were replaced by shorts. Pale limbs reached for the sky begging for color.  Families peeled back the foil on the potato salad and fired up the charcoal grills. Dogs crashed into the water yearning to retrieve the thrown prize for their owners. Lovers spread their blankets and smiled with fingers intertwined.

I sat on a concrete step and took in a deep breath of the salty air spiced with laughter.  I exhaled with a whisper...

"I effing hate this place."

SF you are all a bunch of snobs, but not like us LA snobs. You are worse. You flaunt your city's embrace for friendly interaction, the effective public transit, and venues that combine breathtaking views with a space that resonates to the picnicking families, lapping joggers, and napping couples forming them into a vibrating joyous community. Eff you all. I have a car with over 300hp that  I enjoy sitting in for 2 hours of traffic everyday. And I don't waste time interacting with strangers because they arrogantly ignore me. Jealous? Take that a-holes.

p.s. I'm selling my car and moving north. Can I get a welcome hug? Please?

It doesn't matter if you've lived in SF all your life or if you are a first timer, Crissy Field is a must at least one time in your life! You get the most incredible views of San Francisco along with some of its most beautiful aspects: a panoramic view of the city, Alcatraz (a view as close as you can get on land), the tantalizing bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

I knoow I've been here before, but today was one of the first times I had truly appreciated the immaculate beauty of San Francisco as I experienced it through a bike ride. Crissy Field leads you to other awesome attractions. There are so many great dimensions to this area it's unbelievable. You have East Beach, sailing docks, a rich history around this area including different forts (Fort Mason, Fort Point), several different 'easy' and 'hard' trails, and a park and rec area. I definitely want to incorporate this area into my life more often since I am a Bay Area native.

It was windy as hell and my ears felt like they were about to fall off but well worth the ride!!!

I hate to be repetitious, but can you really give this park anything but 5 stars?  If the free parking isn't reason enough in a city of parking nightmares, the proximity to the golden gate, skyline views of the city, the water, green grass, the beach, and a great running path make this place world class.
I recommend you set up camp on the plentiful grass and have a picnic while your dog runs free.  There is a great cafe called the Warming Hut nearby that serves warm drinks which is crucial, as this park can get rather chilly.  (Sidestory: I once brought an out-of-town friend here to show her the golden gate bridge, but it was so foggy you couldn't even see it.  "It's right above us, I promise!") There are also a lot of "Green" items for sale in the shop, so San Franciscan.  So why are you still on your computer? Get out there now and enjoy the bliss!

The spot along our ride was this vast stretch of land known as Crissy Field.  It was beautiful, very calm and relaxing.  We even stopped and went to touch the water.

The view is even more beautiful when we came up on the hill before crossing over the Golden Gate Bridge.  If I lived here I'd make sure to ride/jog in this area daily!

I wish Houston had something as pretty as this for the backdrop to a run.

I was there for 12 hours.  I got there before 8am and managed to get 2 tables near each other on the west side.  The tables with the grills were taken long before I got there so if you need one, plan to stop by at dawn or maybe the night before.  I was able to get a grill delivered so I didn't have to worry about it.  The weather went from hot and sunny with a clear view of the Golden Gate Bridge on one side and downtown San Francisco on another, to overcast and chilly when the fog rolled in.

The bathrooms were pretty clean and relatively close but as the day went on, the distance felt exponentially greater.   I think we managed to keep the boys from exposing themselves though.  Then we made a human pyramid with me at the top which was dangerous since  I am not the smallest of my friends and the Hamburglar showed us some choreo.

It was a beautiful day spent with almost everyone that matters to me.  Like most people, I have different groups of friends and when they come together, they make me whole and I am reminded of the many reasons they mean so much to me.  Again, I am a very lucky lady in more ways than I could ever count.

What's not to love about Crissy? One of San Francisco's treasures. You can walk, run, bike, even swim?! here. Bring the dog, the kids, a friend or go solo.

Take in breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge on a clear day as well as the Palace of Fine Arts. Grab a cup of cocoa or coffee in the Warming Hut on a more typical chilly foggy day.

If the sun is out you can even sit on a sandy beach area or have a bbq or picnic at one of the picnic tables or on the lawn. Fabulous just being along the Bay, outside.

A decent amount of street parking or you can walk from the Marina/Cow Hollow or even Pac Heights/Fillmore Street and use public transit (line#28 gets you the closest but there is also #43, #24, #22).

Your even close to the Sport's Basement if you need an extra layer while out on your walk or run!

Enjoy!

Crissy Field is such a fun place..my dogs love it here.

Great view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay. Perfect place for a picnic on a sunny day and remember to bring your dogs. Plenty of parking and picnic tables on the grass or you can hang out on the beach.

I do have a dog that is kind of grumpy so I avoid the dog parks normally so I was a bit nervous taking him here...but he did great! There is so much room to run around and so many nice people.

Another reason to love San Francisco!

+a view of the beautiful golden gate bridge
+view of the city in all her glory
+right by the beach where dogs and kids can play
(where can you get all three in the city??)
+great place to take your little lady on a date
+great place to go running
+a wonderful place in general

why didn't I go here before? you might catch me here on random days enjoying a picnic, or walking my puppy-to-be. Crissy fields you are on my top lists of places to spend beautiful summer days in.

From my experience today it is a great place for family fun (did not see any creepos here). Just a lovely mother and daughter having a picnic on the grass, a class of children enjoying a spring field trip, random runners, and cute old couples walking their mini dutchhounds. Ahh.. how I love the clean, friendly, fun places the city has to offer.

I want to give 0 stars so I can be selfish and have Crissy Field all to myself (it was so crowded on Easter Sunday!). But I won't because it just doesn't feel right.... and besides, one 0 star rating among hundreds of 5 star ones probably won't make a difference anyway.

Great views and lovely scenery.  Who can resist a walk or run with the bay by your side and the Golden Gate Bridge on the horizon?   Definitely not I...no sirree!  I'm definitely going to bring my awesome bunny here one day.  Once he gets used to his harness, that is.  :)

This is for sure a dog's playground and a pet owners dream....they can socialize in their respective worlds simultaneously without a care in the world.  So if you know of a little area where my bunny will be safe and allowed to jump and hop around, I'm all ears!

Make sure you have a few $$ and a taste for hot dogs because there's a great little stand by the Warming Hut.  I suggest you sit by the bay, eat your awesome little snack and take in a deep breath of fresh air.  It's fabulous!

Where can you find me on sun drenched afternoons or early morning runs?

You got it!! Here!!

One of the many joys of living in the city is escaping the concrete jungle without really escaping it. Crissy Field is an oasis of sanity that we all so desperately need. I know, some more than others. You will find wind surfers, barbeques, friends having a picnic, dogs playing and a general sincere environment of well-being. It has rescued me on several occasions when I just needed to breathe and get things off my mind. Parking is never an issue. Plenty of it. You can watch the waves from the beach or just take a stroll and smell the ocean. Its much warmer here than Ocean Beach. I don't know why I am wasting so much time writing about it...its time to get down there. I need a run! Just thought I would share the sentiment:)

For my 150th Review, I wanted to write about the place that I consider one of the most beautiful places on earth.  Some people might consider this an over-exaggeration but this place has served as my sanctuary for 3 years.

I found this place while I was going through a difficult time in my life.  I just wanted to run away to a place where I could just be let be.

I drove into Crissy Field's parking lot one day  after work and just sat in my car for hours just staring at the water, the surfers, the sunset.

Then I started walking all the way to foot of Golden Gate Bridge. I was oblivious to anything and anybody, just the beauty of the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge ahead of me.

Then I started running. I've never run in my life before but walking would not do it for me anymore. I ran a quarter mile, then half then I found myself running the 1.5 mile from the parking lot to the foot of the bridge, tapping those handprints on the gate at end of Fort Funston which was the runners' tradition; then back to the parking lot.  Pretty soon I was running 3 miles a day.

On the days when I was most angry, I ran along the ocean almost 5 miles, just going back and forth.  I would sometimes run until it was almost 10 o'  clock at night while getting  concerned phonecalls from my sister and friends for being out so late in the dark.

I felt safe at Crissy Field not just in terms of physical safety but safe from whatever hurted my heart and spirit at the moment.  I just remembered the sunset, the beauty and the sound of my steps on the pavement as I was running. At one point they sounded like rhythm, like I was dancing. I remembered the cold wind on my face contrasted by the cold sweat on my body.  I remember a lone sealion which put up a brief show for me one day and actually made me laugh.

One day just before sunset I saw an old couple--he was in a tuxedo and she was wearing a long white dress. They were at one of the picnic tables toasting their champagne glasses. They were probably in their 80's.  The place was almost empty.  It was just the two of them.  I thought it was so awesome to be able to  witness their moment.

Those twilights at Crissy Field were my most trying moments and when I was most alone.  But those times were also one of my most peaceful.   Those evenings really remained in my memory.

There was a plaque that I would pass by after each run.  It says, "This  is dedicated to those who find this place a beautiful place to dream."

I had to read that everyday.  For me, it signified the completion of a good run, of another day to dream and that tomorrow it might happen.

My dream did happen.  I don't get to go to Crissy Field anymore because of life's complexities.  Life is happier and the past is gone.

But Crissy Field will always be my safe place and sanctuary.

Beautiful. One of the best reasons to live in the city is to partake in the beauty that is Crissy Field. On a warm day you can find adorable families playing in the sand and setting up giant beach umbrellas and tents to shade the kids. There seems to be no shortage of cute toddlers in beach hats making sand castles.  Then around 2pm the families leave to put their kids down for a nap and the 20 somethings show up in groups to dish and recover from their night out. The views of the sail boats and the GG bridge are amazing, and are a great reminder of just how wonderful SF really is.  The water is freezing but the countless dogs happily running about do not seem to mind.*

*This past weekend I was sitting on my towel when a giant yellow lab ran up to the people in front of me, took that special canine stance and let a huge waterfall of diarrhea fall next to this guys beach blanket. The owners came to apologize, although they were laughing through most of the apology. They explained that when dogs swim in the ocean they swallow sea water and that causes diarrhea. They covered the mess with some sand and left. Just something to keep in mind when you are at Crissy Field and all the dogs are running by...  Great views, but watch where you step.

I had one of those moments yesterday. The sun was shining. The weather was warm. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge was awe inspiring. The bay was sparkling.

Surrounded by friends at a BBQ, I thought to myself - am I on vacation? Is this really home? Do I actually get to live here? Could something possibly be this beautiful?

I love, love, love our city.

Do dogs love it here or what?

At least 3 times a month, I get dragged here by the pup to walk here. He loves it. He loves the grassy area and the sand.

I, don't. That sand gets stuck in his ears.

Perfect place to come walk on a beautiful sunny day. Plenty of parking and looking at GGB  late afternoon, you just forget about your problems and enjoy SF's beauty.

Chrissy Field is beautiful.  The paths, the open space, the views...  All in all a wonderful place to go for a run.

But I recently had the most terrible experience here with my dog, that made me think that maybe Chrissy Field isn't the best place for my pup.

The beach here is an off-leash zone.  In my experience this usually means that all humans who come into that zone agree to take on the risk of being around dogs running free.  So my dog is playing with another dog who keeps running up to my pup, barking at her in a playful, come hither sort of way, and then running back to its human.  The problem, of course, is that my dog chases this dog back to its human and then, because she's a spastic lab puppy, runs into the owner.

Apparently this was not okay, because the woman flipped and started screaming at me about how my dog was going to break her knees, was out of control, etc, etc.

So while the woman is screaming at me (to the point where I was about to start crying), my dog notices a women's fitness class doing sprints on the beach, in the middle of the playing dogs.  My dog loooves to run, so she starts running after them, which causes screaming lady to yell more about my out of control dog, which flustered me and made it even more difficult for me to get my dog under control (she wasn't being mean, she was just excitedly chasing the women).  Now I don't know about you, but I wouldn't go for a run in the middle of a dog park and not expect dogs to chase after me.  My dog came when I called her, and she wasn't being mean, but I guess I just assume that excited dogs are part of the dog-park, off-leash experience.  Not so much here.

So the whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth, and while I'd come back to Chrissy Field with humans, I don't think I'd bring a dog back.

I came here at 9 AM last Sunday to do some photography and it was already getting hot. A rarity in San Francisco for this time of year. Since I was here early, parking wasn't a problem.

This is a great place for people to bring their dogs. I was extremely jealous of dogs and their owners playing fetch with each other. Also I had fun watching dogs playing together. I walked along the beach towards the Golden Gate Bridge and it was a perfect day. No fog covering the bridge, just clear and blue skies.

There were a lot of runners too along the trail. Next time, I am running here and hope to catch a sunset.

Beautiful field.  Great view.  Love the wind.  I take friends to this place to show off the Golden Gate Bridge.
