1 whole chicken, just chicken, costs 10.58, super pollo is 11.45(14.50 with 2 sides)
they are both yummy, but 1 costs less :)

I used to go this chicken place daily when I was in high school, but frankly the attitude of one of the cashiers turned me off so much that now I drive the extra 15 minutes to Falls Church. That's why the Arlington location is getting 3 stars alone.
Otherwise, the food here is great. I like their Latino chicken breast sandwich with the hot sauce (nicknamed "crack sauce" by friends and family). The Latino has pickled onions on it which is what makes it different from the standard sandwich. It's delicious. The yuca here is great. And the rotisserie chicken, by itself, is also wonderful.
Now and days, I will go there and buy a big tub of the "crack" sauce and use it to dress up my own sandwiches at home. It's especially great around thanksgiving time with leftovers.
Price is right! Chicken was great but not the best ever. Yucca was phenomenal! All in all a great spot.
My wife and I ate at El Pollo Rico for several years before discovering Crisp & Juicy. While both serve Peruvian chicken there are apparent differences in taste and Crisp & Juicy offers a few more menu options such as plantains, yucca and rice and beans.
Don't expect to eat in the same area where you order -- save it for customers waiting for their order (and it is worth the wait). The chicken is certainly juicy and has a great flavor. The rice and beans are very tasty: spicy and well-cooked (to me there is nothing worse than undercooked black beans).
Get the orange sauce and add it to the rice & beans - but not too much as the sauces are very salty. The sauce also enhances the taste of the chicken.
You get a good amount of food for the price: chicken, rice & beans, salad and a roll.
If you want a good, quick chicken meal that will fill you up then this is the place. Pricing is very reasonable.
OMG good. I've gone there after 8pm some days and they have run OUT of chicken it's that good. And cheap. The chicken is juicy; he skin is crispy and tasty. Their plaintains are to die for. Perfectly cooked. The rice is delish and their sauce is good. This is a great spot to pick up a lot of food for a little amount of money.
I've been to other Crisp & Juicy locations which are better than this one. The restaurant tends to be a little dirty although it looks like they recently painted and redid parts of it.
As for the food, the chicken is tender and juicy and overall pretty good. I'm not a big fan of either the yellow or the pink sauces as they seem like mostly mayonnaise with a few spices mixed in. The yuca is pretty good here although not as good as some other Peruvian restaurants in the area.
The restaurant just feels crowded and cold. Oh, and the silverware they have totally suck. The knives, which at a chicken place should be sturdy, are the most flimsy knives I've ever seen... Because of that, I just downgraded my rating to 2 stars. If they replace the knives, they get an extra star!!

Crisp and Juicy should consider continuing the trend of (literally) naming their restaurant as adjectives of their food. I vote for changing their name to "Totally Tasty".
I recently broke my short stint as a vegetarian- going without eating anything that was previously alive/ moo'ed/ clucked is highly overrated! Luckily, I live near a Crisp and Juicy so I decided to give it a whirl. And it's a good thing I did!
Portions at C & J are sizeable-- I had the quarter chicken with yuca. SO GOOD. No false advertisement here: my meal was indeed crisp and juicy. The yucas that day were golden, delicious and fresh. I will gladly burn my tongue on some yucas from Crisp and Juicy again any day! It was served with a yellow sauce... to this day, it's still a mystery to me what that sauce was (perhaps a mayo based sauce? or a light garlic sauce?). What I can say is that it complements their yucas like butter does bread.
The chicken was perfectly seasoned-- although I can see how it may be a bit salty for some palettes. The meat itself was cooked to perfection and for just the right amount of time too, as it was of fall-off-the-bone tender proportions. To add, the meal came with a bread roll, a small portion of slaw and a salad, which I think just about covers all of the food groups, all in one meal.
C & J was an overall delight and all for a recession- friendly price tag of under $10.

Criso and Juicy slots in firmly between Super Pollo and El Pollo Rico. It's not as good as the former, but better than the latter. I got the combination platter, which comes with a quarter chicken, piece of chorizo, a bit of steak, fries, and cole slaw. The chicken got the juicy part right, but not so much the crisp, which is fine; it was still tasty. The chorizo was very good, but the steak was, as expected, very well-done, and wasn't all that great. The fries were enjoyable, as was the slaw. Not the best I've had, but far from the worst. It comes with some sort of pink sauce that's kind of like the yellow served at the other places only a bit spicier. All of this cost $11 and change with tax, which is pretty good. A quarter chicken plate is a bit more expensive than the other places, though. There's also lots of sides available, although I don't think you can substitute with the platters.
All in all, I enjoyed the meal and would like to come back, but parking is very limited, so that makes it a bit tough. Seating is also similarly limited, so it's best for carryout.

Finally, I've completed the Arlington peruvian chicken trifecta. The main event - pollo a la brasa - was good at Crisp & Juicy, though the overall experience was not the best available. If it was closer to home I'd probably make it part of the regular rotation but since its out of the way for me, I will be sticking to Super Pollo and the occasional El Pollo Rico. Besides location, here's why:
-The sides. Rice and beans, meh. Edible, not bad, but definitely not craveable. Yuca, also mediocre. Side salad, fine but nothing that couldn't have come out of a plastic bag from Dole.
-The sauce. Sorry, but I'm a lover of the traditional green hot sauce and mayo mix-it-yourself duo and this runny, oddly-hued (a shade of peach?) stuff just didn't do it for me. Its definitely not the right flavor to accompany the chicken and it wasn't even all that good dipped with the so-so yuca.
and most importantly...
-The wait. While SP and EPR have an endless supply of hot birds waiting to be chopped into quarters and dropped into styrofoam before you can say "tengo hombre", for some reason I waited 10 minutes or more for my carry-out order to be bagged up and handed over. Not cool.

I've been coming to C&J ever since it opened - at least a hundred visits by now - and am rarely disappointed. Our standard order is a medio pollo para llevar, and they range from outstanding (if fresh out of the rotisserie) to still-better-than-okay (if they've been holding it in a warming oven). The staff is always friendly, and always enloy it when haole customers try to order in Spanish.
Used to be they cooked the chickens over nothing but real lump charcoal (not vile "briquettes"), but they switched to a combination gas/charcoal roto a few years back and I must say, I'm not sure I can tell much difference.
The thing with C&J is, go as early as you can if you like your pollo fresh off the spit. They seem to shut it down about an hour before closing time, which comes pretty early in the winter (8-ish), but later in the summer. Maybe they'll extend their hours now that Starbucks is drawing an evening crowd to Lee Heights.
Why not five stars? Can't be sure of pollo right off the spit, sides are only average, interior is just a little on the grubby side.
I do wish the jefe would visit Five Guys and copy their fries. (Lordy, if C&J could do yuca like Five Guys does fries, C&J would have lines around the block.)
And they started taking credit cards earlier this year! Huzzay!

I know I gave Super Pollo 4 stars, and this place doesn't have as many sides, but I still like it a lot. Frankly it's probably really hard to screw up Peruvian chicken, and this place doesn't. The chicken is crisp AND juicy AND delicious. So far so good. Also the sandwiches are out of sight!
They have a few more sides than El Pollo Rico, but it cost extra for yucca fries...WTF? Also I'm a condiment kind of guy, and their sauces taste better than most, love that mayo sauce and the jalepeno sauce!

No where else in the country have I encountered so many pollo a la brasa places. Sorry other cities!!!
My boyfriend said it best: that he used to consider yuca a poor man's french fry. but when done well, it's even better and crisp and juicy is the place to change his mind.
It's cheap, doesn't have a chain feel and has great parking. Plus they have really authentic alfajores. I really have no complaints about this place, I guess it's just a 4 because it's not distinctive from any of the other pollo a la brasa places.

I have been a little disappointed 3 of the last 4 times I have been here. One time the chicken wasn't juicy and the last time it wasn't crisp -- and even a little undercooked....the yuca is usually good but also is subject to some good days and bad. I still think this place is decent but not the jewel I once thought.......

Maybe I came here too late (7pm-ish). My chicken wasn't that juicy...it was a little dried like it was overcooked just a little bit. But I like the favor on the chicken skin!!!
I would like to give this a try another time, maybe it will be juicer if I come earlier?
I still say El Pollo Rico in Arlington has the best chicken at ALL time of the day.

It's often juicier than it is crisp, but still damn good chicken and over say 15 visits over the years here I have never had a bad one. The owner confirmed to me that they brine the chicken, which makes a huge difference here.
I personally prefer the rub/chicken at El Pollo Rico - Arlington (the price and the long line of Latinos should tell you something about EPR), but the variety and quality of the sides at Crisp/Juicy give you something you can't get at EPR. Check out the simple rice/beans and the fried yucca.
I don't usually like fried plantains, but these are done very well.
Leave room for the alfajore or at least take one home and woof it down later.
If you're traveling along Route 7 west of Falls Church/29 intersection, check out that outpost. Still a walkup counter but plenty o' seating. They also offer interesting alternative sandwiches not offered in Arlington.

I discovered the joys of Peruvian Chicken about 18 months ago. I couldn't believe that chicken that tastes that good had been out there waiting for me, and it took me so long to try it. Better late than never, right?
Since those heady days of Peruvian discovery, I've been known to frequent many of the local chicken places and have enjoyed most of them, including Crisp & Juicy in Arlington.
When thinking about how I should welcome the weekend, I decided that a trip to Crisp & Juicy (followed by dessert at Pastries by Randolph - right down the block) would fit the bill.
The Food - Crisp & Juicy prepares perfectly cooked and seasoned Peruvian Chicken. I ordered mine with a side of Fries and an Inca Cola. When asked if I wanted the hot sauce (served in a plastic ramekin-esque container on the side), I indicated that I definitely did want the hot sauce. The hot sauce has a very subtle red pepper flavor, and really isn't all that "hot". The fries were good, but not great. The Inca Cola, which I've seen in Latin American grocery stores all over DC, (and really has nothing to do with the restuarant) had a surprising and pleasant bubble gum flavor - give it try if you haven't already. Overall, the food was quite good. I'm confident that most of the items on the menu are pretty good, but suspect the burger isn't anything spectacular - best to stick with the chicken I think.
The Atmosphere - Crisp & Juicy is a neat little corner spot with indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is basically the minimum to keep you out of the rain and cold. Don't expect to be swept away by a cozy interior. If weather permits, grab a table outside and watch the pedestrian traffic on this busy little strip of Lee Hwy. You're not here for the atmosphere, just the chicken. Still, it's nice to have the option of relaxing outside with your lunch or dinner.
The Prices - I thought the prices were average. I've received a little more bang for the buck in some other Peruvian Chicken places, but I thought the 8.50 I paid was pretty consistent for this type of place.
4 stars - I probably waited no more than 2 minutes for my order, good location with street parking and parking lot options, great chicken and decent fries, outdoor seating options. I deducted a star for being middle-of-the-road on value and the fries. Overall, a positive experience that I would repeat if in the neighborhood.

Both Crisp and Juicy despite what earlier reviews have stated: all of those people are liars. I love Crisp and Juicy so much that I would use my body as a flame blanket to put out any grease fires brought on by their delicious rotisserie chicken.
Ok, that may be a bit of hyperbole, but really, this place is great if your looking a no frills, cheap, healthy, Styrofoam covered meal.
Some people talk about how great the sauce is here... meh, it's mayo with hot sauce which is still good, but worthy of 6 stars.
Big chicken meal: 7 bucks.
Unlimited plastic cutlery: Free

Strip mall gem. Arlington has plenty of them.
Most people (that I notice while waiting in line) seem to come here for the rotisserie chicken. I've seen people purchase SEVERAL at a time (along with more sides than you can shake a stick at - did I just say that?). Me - I'm the odd (wo)man out. I come here for the Cuban Chicken Sandwich with extra sauce and cheese with sides of coleslaw, plantains (w/ sour cream) and rice & beans. PIGLETTA.
There is a side area that seems like you are outdoors with tables and chairs to eat-in. I usually take mine home. I like the ambiance more.

C&J is a pretty solid entry to the Peruvian chicken scene. I'm most partial to Chicken on the Run in Bethesda, but since we moved to Arlington, I've had to find a new "go to." I'd say C&J is right up there. The chicken is nice and spicy, and yes, it is both crispy and juicy. The choice of sides looked good. The yuca was ok...it was a bit overdone and dry but the rice and beans were very good. Crisp and Juicy does one thing very well- their sauce. It might have rivalled any that I have tried thus far. Not ready to anoint it my "go to" yet but I did like it better than Pollo Rico.

Hands down, Crisp & Juicy is the best rotisserie chicken I have had in all my years. It is so juicy that it nearly falls off the bone yet the skin still retains its' crispiness, hence the name. The light seasoning they put on the bird prior to throwing it into the rotisserie is perfect on the poultry. My mouth starts watering even thinking about this place since I haven't been there since I moved to Chicago 2.5 years ago.
My typical order here is a quarter chicken dark, with a couple little cups of mild sauce and a side of fried Yucca and I proceed to dip both pieces of chicken and the yucca into the delectable sauce. As I recall, that was about $4.75 with a drink. Their prices are amazingly low even for a whole chicken! This Peruvian rotisserie is the most succulent chicken you will ever sink your teeth into. Leave your computer and proceed to Crisp & Juicy post-haste.

Best chicken out there.
There are three things we miss since moving to DC from SF Peninsula - great Mexican (Mexican, not Tex-Mex!) food, great Sushi and hopping over the hill to the Pacific!
Crisp and Juicy is something we don't have in SF - and it's close to our heart. Susan is there right now grabbing a couple of the scrumptious chickens!

MMMMMM Chicken!
The chicken really is crisp and juicy. ALWAYS upgrade to Yucca fries and get plenty of sauce. You will be burping the delicious garlic fumes for the rest of the day, but it is defiantly worth it. The only reason that there are not 5 stars is that the service was a bit unfriendly. The food is great and fast, so just go here instead of any fast food in the area.
This place is great, and as a bonus it is right down the street from MU so when you are bored with the caf its an easy walk to some seriously delicious food. It saved me during exams!

Sure, the chicken at this place is more expensive than Pollo Rico's, but I personally think it tastes slightly better too. I also believe that peruvian chicken will never be a mind-blowing experience no matter how they season it (unless they stuff it w/ E or something). What really sets Crisp and Juicy apart from the rest for me is their pink sauce. It's a terrific complement to the chicken or the yucca. Or a burger, ribs, veggies, or fish for that matter. Seriously, the stuff goes great on everything. I understand that a few other people have actually complained about the pink sauce, but it's creamy spiciness (not unlike the spicy mayo at sushi places) really adds a lot of kick and flavor to an already tasty/juicy (and crisp) chicken. I REALLY love taking the awesome chicken skin, rolling it up into a crispy, fatty cigar and consuming it with lots of sexy sauce on it. Go try this sauce and then tell me I'm crazy...

i can't believe i haven't written about crisp&juicy yet! actually, i can't believe that i haven't BEEN there in months. i've been craving it a LOT lately but somehow it's eluded me.
i usually get it for take out and share with a friend - that way, we can get the "family dinner" that's perfect for two - comes with a good amt of chicken and yucca fries, with the tangy sauce. in fact, the sides and the sauces are some of the best reasons for coming b/c they just complete the meal that much more. but don't worry, it's the best darn rotisserie chicken you'll ever have.
for some reason, i've always been told that one must go to the location in arlington off rt 29, NOT the one on rt 7 in falls church (though that is the closest to me). now i haven't risked the falls church one yet so i can't make a comparison, but when it comes to good food, might as well stick with what you know is a sure bet.

This is the original Crisp and Juicy which is pretty cool. It all started right here and spread across the river into MD. I like the plantains and the yuca and the rice. The chicken is not as name implies. It sure is juicy, but I don't see where they get off calling it crisp. If it just came off the grill it would be crisp. But since they put it on the spit roaster and then put it in a microwave or something to keep it warm it gets to be not so crisp anymore. I usually have to put it in the oven when I get home just so it can live up to its name.

Yet another place I find overrated. My chicken was soggy and I wasn't a fan of the sides I got. Gay friends recommended this establishment and since they always clued us onto winners, figured Crisp and Juicy would be another. Nope. First loss.

My friend told me about Crisp & Juicy shortly after I moved to Arlington. I made a huge mistake by waiting until almost a year later to actually try it. The chicken is moist and flavored throughout (unlike some rotisserie chickens that are bland unless you're eating the skin). The yucca fries are a tasty side. My favorite part, however, is the garlic sauce. They have mild, medium, and hot sauces. Don't waste your time with the mild sauce, it's just too bland. I never buy higher than medium salsa and the hot sauce is not too spicy at all. I often mix and match the medium and hot sauces when they ask which one I want. I recommend getting the chicken and sides a la carte. The small combo meals come with salad (mainly just iceberg lettuce) and a roll, and you don't want to waste valuable stomach space filling up on those instead of the chicken. Also, if there's a line (frequently to or out the door), don't be discouraged--I've always been out in 10 minutes.
I moved from Northern Virginia to California nearly 5 years ago, and I STILL have serious cravings for Crisp & Juicy chicken "with 2 yellow & 2 orange". If I could figure out a way to get them shipped to me in San Diego, you bet I would! There must be blow in that sauce cause those chickens are ADDICTIVE!!!!! I have never visited DC without making a pilgrimage to C&J.
