Such a great place to live! It's got everything you would want and more! The property has three free residents events every month. It's been an amazing way to get to know your neighbors.

I would like to thank Berkshire Ninth for an excellent maintenance tech! His name is Herman M. and I can not say enough about how professional, attentive and helpful he has been! In this day where people ghost you on projects, Herman has been responsive and very upfront if he needs additional information, and then follows up with answers!
Thank you Berkshire Ninth for having an employee like Herman! He is an excellent reflection on not only himself but also on your building!

We have lived at Berkshire Nine for 3 years. We have been very happy here. The maintenance staff including Anthony and Herman always respond very quickly to our maintenance requests. The front office staff including Stephanie, Louise and Jake have been very helpful. We throughly enjoy the events organized by Scott and Lori with Apartment Life. We appreciate all who have helped make this apartment complex our home in Durham.

A wonderful apartment community that is close to so much! Groceries, coffee, and places to eat are only a walk away. The office staff are very helpful and make time to help residents. The maintenance team is hard working and complete work orders from residents quickly. The property provides events throughout the month from an Apartment Life team. The events are a great way to meet your neighbors. This is a fantastic place to live!

The location and apartments are lovely, but that was the extent of our positive experience. We had hallway lighting that was broken for months on the 5th floor that required a bit of confrontation with the office staff to get addressed, it was dark and dangerous. The grounds are poorly maintained, with litter a constant issue. Broken bottle, dog feces around the grounds, and overflowing trash rooms on the weekends. We had a constant bug issue from the roof, that was never addressed. There is nothing premium about the B9 other than the location and rent prices.

It's a shame that Emily left the management team. Initially it was a great experience, until you have a problem, that it's nothing but inaction.

Not a tenant, but a visitor to a tenant. The landlord recently acquired parking areas near the Erwin Square area. I was booted recently upon visiting my friend, and was told by after hours security that I should have received a pass by my friend (the friend was unaware if this) and since my car was already booted, I was out of luck. I was charged $150 to get the boot removed. This has nothing to do with having enough parking space for the tenants - this is strictly about making money, and doing it in a shady way. Shady, because those spaces are conveniently located near Erwin Square, and the fine is unnecessarily high.

I moved to Berkshire Nine after having a terrible experience with a cheaper apartment complex across the street. Now that I'm here... I cannot say enough great things about this building and staff.

For me, the experience began with the care and attention that the leasing team took to find the right apartment for me, specifically the help I received from Emily, Sydney, and Ashlee. Thanks to them they helped me find an apartment that fit my budget and lifestyle.

Being a full-time graduate student, I was looking for an apartment that was quiet enough to study, contained a guest friendly floor plan, and located near the action of 9th street. Thanks to this leasing team they were able to recommend a great one bedroom apartment. My apartment looks great with its dark hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, high ceilings, and porch that is connected to the outdoor courtyard pool/grilling area. The gorgeous and serene courtyard feels like an extension of my home whether for grilling dinner or as a location to relax with friends after a long week of class.

When things go wrong, you need to have a competent and responsive maintenance staff, which was the area my former apartment complex struggled. Since I've lived here, the building and landscaping are kept in great shape. Unlike my last place, I have yet to see any dead mice or roaches in the hallways or common areas.
Also, I've been very happy to find that all my maintenance request have been fixed quickly and on the first attempt. Seriously... last week I put a request to have my door lock fixed because it was jamming up, and the very next day it was swiftly repaired by the maintenance team with a new lock and key. No bullshit attempts to salvage the old lock or an attempt to fix it with WD-40. It was replaced, which restored my confidence in my belonging being safe and being able to get in and out of my apartment without issue.

My only complaint is you cannot opt of cable. Its packaged in with your rent.

P.S. - I'm writing this review to hopefully help the next guy or gal avoid the mistake I made of moving into a cheaper apartment complex in an attempt to save a few hundred bucks a month. In the long run, I didn't save anything and would have gladly paid double of what I was trying to save just to live "normally".
I.E: (Hotel stays due to power outages, roaches, loud parties every night, broken gym equipment, terrible customer service, etc.)

In the end, I learned a valuable lesson... You get what you pay for!

From the minute my apartment signed our 11 month lease last august, our experience with Ashlee Hopkins has been incredibly wonderful. I'm so thankful for the attentiveness, flexibility, and patience Ashlee has shown us in hopes of making our experience at Berkshire 9th the best it could be.

She has been extremely helpful and responsive to us throughout the past 11 months, regardless of what issue we had at hand. The sense of security and care Ashlee brought to every interaction was so reassuring and always left me feeling more certain about living at Berkshire 9th.

In short, Ashlee and the staff at Berkshire 9th in general, are what truly made the experience for me. As I prepare to graduate, I have them to thank for making my senior year off campus housing experience more positive than I could've imagined.

Where do I start? My wife and I moved here for 22 months while I was getting my MBA at Duke. Do not be fooled by the fake positive reviews as I did when we were looking for a place to live in Durham (They push people to make those 5-star reviews you are seeing). This is by far the most incompetent, unprofessional building management team we have ever experienced (and we lived in NYC for 6 years prior..). Be prepared for hidden "forgotten" fees that magically appear month to month (please do not sign up for automatic monthly billing), horrible customer service (management never looks to solve a problem and simply denies any issues or becomes argumentative), false promises, fees for trash, ignored emails, ignored calls, inconsistent services (they do not clean the dog park, pick up trash consistently, or perform any of the services or amenities you pay for consistently and fairly). I could go on and on

I caught a man breaking into our car on the top floor of the parking garage at 9 AM on a Saturday morning. I confronted the man and he ran from the scene, prompting me to call the police. I went to the front office where I was told in a simple summary that this was not their problem and this is part of living in Durham. I asked about video cameras and anything else they could do. Nothing. Many other students my year have similar feelings towards B9 and many have had false charges, fees every other day for not bringing in the trash can (which is strange because when they do not collect the trash around 50% of the time, are we entitled to get our monthly trash removal fee back?), stolen wallets and items out of cars, broken or open gates, garage doors not working, and an overall feeling of B9 trying to nickle and dime you at every turn while not living up to the "premium" you pay to live there.

There are so many cheaper, better options in walking distance of B9, I wish I saw a candid review when we were deciding so I hope this can help any incoming students make an educated decision. Also, if you have a dog you might think that B9 is worth the extra cost (as we did) for the dog park. The dog park is never cleaned and disgusting (half the dogs my year ended up getting sick or kennel cough), also you don't need to live at B9 to use it, they let people in from Bmain, S9, and 810 everyday...dont let them fool you. They will also try to lock you into a longer lease and act like the apartments are filling up and/or have a waitlist, this is all a façade! Be smarter than we were, you got into Duke after all.
