Astoria, NY
Considering I live around the corner I should go to Crescent and Vine far more than I do. (The bad part about being close is that I can often convince myself to save the money and go home to drink win) However every time I have been there it has been wonderful. Great beer selection, delicious wines, yummy cheese and meats. Atmosphere is cozy and laidback and during the summer the open window creates a lovely breeze.
I was finally prompted to write after we had yet another wonderful experience last night. Walking home we looked in C & V to see how crowded it is (I tend to be lazy by that point in the evening and want a seat) but since we wanted to keep the evening going we went in even though there weren't any seats available. That wasn't an issue because the bartender Steve magically located two stools within 5 minutes so we could both sit. We split one of the delicious cheese and meat platters (nevermind that we had just come from dinner and dessert). We had already been drinking wine so I went with that but I can't wait to go back to try some of the beers on tap, and maybe even finally go to the jazz on Sunday nights. -

Astoria, Queens, NY
Big fan of this place right off the bat. Nice quiet vibe with dim lighting. Excellent place to go on a date night. I went by recently with my fiance and we split a bottle of wine and a meat/cheese platter. The wine was recommended by our waiter Steve. He was very attentive and had a nice presence throughout our time there.
Same owners as Fatty's cafe right next door which apparently is well received by the locals. Definitely a good spot for 3-4 people or less and you have to be in the mood for a quiet, chill evening. -

Astoria, NY
I was hanging out with a friend one chilly Saturday evening. The sky was black and starless. She had the sudden urge to go out so in a warm haze of amity, I followed her to this place. We made our way along Ditmars Ave past the private homes that all seemed to be as empty as those in the zombiepocalypse. We reached it and saw that it was nearly empty. This caused me to pause. Why is it practically empty on a Saturday?
We went in and ordered (she had the sauvignon blanc and I had the pinot). They have a decent beer selection as well as some cheese and meat platters if the mood strikes.
The light was low, and the music was loud enough to appreciate but not so much so as to drown out a conversation. We were there for about an hour and the place did start to see more and more people. -

Ahh, if Only I lived closer. I live in Brooklyn and actually travel to Astoria to go to this bar, it is that special. They have usually only 7 beers on tap, all either Belgium, German, or American Micro Brews, and all always excellent. The charcuterie they offer alongside the ales are not to be missed, especially the manchego- chorizo combination. The atmosphere is not to be missed either, the times I have been it is always half full with quite music playing in the background. The volume of both patrons and music never gets to loud and I've never been when I couldn't find a seat. If I ever move to Queens, I'd probably move to Astoria just so I could frequent this very cool place.

Nice wine selection. What I like even more is that I was told by the very friendly bartender of how they change their wine selection regularly. Definitely will be back!
Nice for a date or a low key night out with friends. -

Great selection of wine by the glass and beer on tap, always rotating, and always unique. The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful. The crowd is always tastefully merrymaking on good wine and beer in the flickering candlelight. Probably my favorite place to take people.

The ambiance is incredible. It's everything you want in a bar. Great music, friendly bartender, plenty of comfortable seating, quiet enough that you can have a conversation, clean bathroom. That being said, you are going to drop a load of cash to get that. I think I might just buy a bottle of wine next time, drink it at home and pretend I'm at Crescent and Vine.

This place was pretty much just exceptional all around. I've only been here once, but seeing as how I visit my best friend that lives right around the corner fairly frequently, I'm hoping to make it back at least a couple of times.
I loved the dark intimate feel it had, and yes it is quite small inside, but I think that adds to its charm. The bartender was very knowledgeable in all the wine and even the few beers they had on tap. I won't even begin to pretend like I know what I'm talking about when it comes to wine. I simply told him I liked a dry white wine, nothing too sweet, and bam. He picked out a delicious white wine I couldn't get enough of.
The 3 other ladies in my party that evening all got something different. Red wine, mead, and a very hoppy dark beer. So this place has a little bit of everything to satisfy those different tastes.
I kept eyeballing the cheese plates, but couldn't commit to actually ordering one.
Cute and cozy dark interior, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and mellow music. I'll be seeing you again, Crescent & Vine, oh yes, I will be seeing you again. -

I am both happy and sad to report that Friday night was Wade's last night behind the bar at C & V. Happy because he is moving on to do something he really enjoys and sad because it will be next to impossible to fill his shoes. Btw, have had the paninis and meat and cheese plates since my original review and both are fantastic. Still one of the chillest places in Astoria. Even if you aren't a wine drinker, their craft beer selection on tap will rival most others.
Wade you will be missed. Good luck to you buddy.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Finally here.... The 200th review of my Yelp 2010 Year... Gonna take a little yelp break after this one.
I wanted to make a splash but decided to go with an old favorite that I never did review. And since I was just there, it makes sense.... this spot just gives me the nice warm fuzzy feeling like it usually does.
So for disclosure... I know the owner... But really, who doesn't ? DUHHH... Seriously, if you come here once or on the regular....., chances are that you're gonna get an opportunity to chat with Fern and Sue.
So Ray is gone??? oh no.... no worries... new bartender just as good and shockingly guessed the wine that I was going to order... Weirrrd... Tell them what you like in wine or beer and they will make a nice suggestion.... Plenty of choices to satisfy everyone...
Bruschetta was divine. Balsamic glaze and plump tomatoes bursting with flavor on a thin toasted bread. A surprising delicious treat.
Paninis, as simple as they are was just extra good. Ham and cheese was just good with my Dry Riesling...
But most importantly, the place is comfy.... It can get crowded on wknds and when it does I run back to fatty's next door and hang at the bar. I really do enjoy this place on a quiet evening with good company..... -

ASTORIA, NY
Not much to say that hasn't already been said. They have wonderful wine, great beer, and their snack foods are wonderful (the chocolate panini is fantastic). The live jazz band on Sunday nights is always a welcome addition.
Most of all, they're nice, and the place is affordable. Highly recommended. -

I really enjoy coming here for date night. The decor is romantic and quaint and the playlist is great...the bartenders are always informative and make great suggestions when I tell them what I'm in the mood for. They give you your space but make sure your glass is full.
The price of wines by the glass is quite outrageous for Astoria but if you buy a bottle it's a good deal. They also have a good selection of meats & cheeses. I do wish they'd crank up the heat a little as it can get quite chilly in there. -

Astoria, NY
This is definitely one of my favorite bars in Astoria! The bartender (owner also I think) is gracious, and always helpful with guiding menu choices. The pours are generous, and while fairly limited, the food selections are excellent. I'm a big fan of meat and cheese plates, and his is one of the best deals and best quality in Astoria.
The alcohol selection is similarly limited (wine and beer only) but both contain great options. The wines all average $30-$36 per bottle, but again, generous pours and hefty carafes. -

Astoria, NY
My favorite wine bar in Astoria, if not anywhere. Very, VERY good selection of wine & various other intoxicants... the bartender/owner? is a genius, and the place is frequented, but never packed.
The wine prices seem inflated when checking out the menu, but you'll get a second glass worth in a carafe when you order one. The keeps come around often to make sure you leave sated, but never interfere with conversation.
Although not overly decorated, I find C&V to be totally charming; it's dimly lit, the patrons instinctively talk in whispers and the bartender is friendly. The bathroom is also adorable, for what that's worth. I'm not quite a regular, but I'd highly recommend C&V as a great date location or casual hangout in the area. -

Astoria, NY
The staff is crazy knowledgeable, and the wine/craft beer selection is AMAZING. Not to mention the cheese - a beautiful selection, and the bartender is always willing to help you pair your cheese and wine just perfect.
The vibe is dark and intimate - with candles lighting the room. Not so good for groups since it is a small space and can get crowded, but good for a few friends or a date.
Cannot rave about the bartenders enough, they really know their wines and offer tastings if you are indifferent. -

Super laid back vibe in Astoria.
This place is all things I like about a wine bar..
Great wine by the Glass... the Albarino was simply fantastic. As good as I have had. The Torrentes did not disappoint either by the time I made to the reds I was pretty gone... but if the whites were this good it's a safe bet the reds would even be better.
Nice cheese selection.. pretty standard but tasty. Service was spot on and the place made for easy conversation.
Decor was simple and was just really relaaaxxxeeed..
If in your Astoria and want good wine and nice conversation go to Crescent and please start with the Albarino.... -

I've only been here once and the air-conditioning wasn't working very well. It was hot, I was sweaty, but I still had a great time having cider in ice. The atmosphere was relaxed and the people that worked here and the folks that sat at the bar were very friendly. I'll be back and hopefully the a/c will be working better, but regardless, I highly recommend going here for a few.

Woodside, NY
Crescent and Vine is a gem in this relatively dry corner of Ditmars. It's a solid choice to bring some friends in for a drink, whether it's a basic but solid cocktail or a great beer or wine off their well-considered list. If you don't know what to choose, Wade the manager is happy to help you figure it out. In the summer the open front is lovely, and in winter it's cozy until it gets a little crowded. But so it goes; great places like this attract good crowds!
C&V is also one of the few, proud, early adopters of NY Craft Beer Week in Queens. If you're a local or deal-seeker, you may be better off using their year-round deal of a free panini with beer purchase. I believe they serve Abita year round, which wins extra points. -

As a local of Astoria it is my favorite watering hole.
The owners have found a simple rhythm in running there place. I enjoy coming here to wind down listen to good music.
The vibe is excellent The staff is fun and professional and above all the food is consistent.
Make your way out here all my friends have enjoyed it and keep coming back. -

I love this place. It's tiny, dark, and charming. The bartender there is always charming and attentive. Great wine selection, and just a comfortable, laid back vibe. This place was so cute and quaint. I loved it. I felt so hip and cool drinking my wine here, but not in an uptight way. The wine was delicious, the food was tasty and our server was the nicest guy around and very knowledgeable (as he should be) about wine!
Highly recommended. I'll have to go again on a night thats busier and maybe it'll go up to 5 stars! :) -

A comfortable and warm interior with friendly bartenders well-versed in wine but also familiar with the craft beers they're serving and never pretentious, Crescent & Vine is one of my favorite wine bars. The food and cheese selections are also quite good. The clientele is also quite friendly and fun.

A very cozy (read: small) wine bar off the beaten path of Astoria but totally worth a visit. If you have ever been to The Bourgeois Pig, this is Astoria's slightly watered-down version. I don't mean watered-down in a bad way. Truth be told, I enjoyed myself MORE at Crescent and Vine than The Bourgeois Pig.
Why?
The wine list is robust, but impeccably edited. No shenanigans.
The beers on tap are AMAZING and cheap-don't like wine? Order a $6 beer). Young's Double Chocolate Stout, Six Point Sweet Action (or is it Hot Action? I can't remember. Both sound zexy.
The food menu is so extremely priced you'll want to take a cab all the way downtown to The Bourgeois Pig and smack them for overcharging you. $15 gets you a cheese/meat place with EIGHT choices of cheese/meat options + bread + grapes.
Cheeses to choose from include, but are not limited to:
Bleu, Gouda, Gruyere, Romano, Goat, Fresh Mozz, Manchego, etc
Meats to match I forget...but they were all good
Other light fare on the menu: salads, small desserts, panini that looks AWESOME but I was in a cheesy mood.
Very quiet little bar-excellent for a first date. Not great for groups-I think the entire place seats around 25ish. Service is polite and attentive without being intrusive.
Big Fan. Big, Big Fan. Bigger fan the next day after eating my weight in cheese. OINK!Listed in: You are missing out, Dah-lish

Crescent & Vine has been opened for about a week and I couldn't be more excited! It is kinda like an old English pub meeting Astoria punk rock with tin skulls decorating the corners of the pressed tin ceiling.
C & V is a wine bar that serves awesome beers (Young's Chocolate Stout is my fav) and light food and snacks. I have stopped by twice this week for the nutella and banana panini. Cheese and meats plates available as well.
Prices are pretty fair with beers ranging from $5-9 and wine $6-$13. Food is affordable as well. I am coming here every night! -

San Francisco, CA
I am going to try and be nice since this will be probably be my local (to use English parlance), for better or worse, since it is a hop, skip, and a jump from my new digs.
But, I cannot rate this place higher than "meh" based upon my first stop here. Based upon the service, food, and wine, I received, I cannot rate higher.
When I walked in it was early and I was greeted. So far so good. Except that I was called lady. Strike one. The wine list was short and over-priced for what I received. I ordered a basic Spanish red, which was fine but not great. Perhaps I am spoiled by S.N.O.B. in my old 'hood. There, I paid more for the glass but I was treated warmly and got free refills on that same glass.
I also ordered brushetta. C&V apparently thinks that brushetta means: croutons and chopped tomato drenched with balsamic vinagrette dressing. Yeah, NYC, you should know better. Strike 2.
Strike 3? Service. Bartender was okay but practically ignored me and spent the entire time talking to the only other patron about film and things.
Yeah, not so great but I like wine and I'm lazy so I'll probably go back. Not with any enthusiasm. -
Review from Jando S.
This semi-new nightlife spot, courtesy of the owner from Fatty's Cafe is bringing new life to this more quiet section of Ditmars. The bar is dark, intimate, and small but tends to pack a good amount of people during anytime of the night. The wonderful service is always there to accommodate and it essentially fills any void that nearby locals have for good place to catch drinks.
Like any bar, the good stuff can get somewhat pricey. The prices are not outrageous, but its certainly not a bargain for Astoria. Nearby Waltz-Astoria is just a block down, but has the same beers for as much as a $1.50 less. The music can get super loud at night and when it becomes some hardcore indie rock or rap, it loses its essence as a true "wine bar." Hopefully there won't be too many drunkards hanging out in the quiet neighborhood, it would be a shame to see places like this disappear as a result of disturbed neighbors. -
Review from Steve A.
On a quest to find the next spot the night, one of my roommates and I landed at Crescent & Vine. She is a wine fiend and knows all about that life. I on the other hand am content with boxed wine and will drink it as long as it's cold and not red. This is a quiet spot for the grown and sophisticated. All around there were people on dates getting down on their dishes and splitting wine. My roommate was very impressed with the wine list and said that the prices were very reasonable. Jazz was the perfect complement to the dimly lit environment with candles all around. If you are looking for a nice spot for a ladies night or if your a fella looking for an adequate 2nd date spot and your mouthpiece is tight, bring that little lady to Crescent.

Wade and the other staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is good, the wine is better. Totally worth killing a few hours (or perhaps a whole evening) at C&V. -

New York, NY
This is by far my favorite place in the neighborhood. Ray and Wade, the bartenders, are knowledgeable about the wines and beer that they carry. Every so often the menu changes up with new and interesting specials (think: South African wine, Chilean, etc.) Great, great place and because you're served carafes instead of glasses, it's actually reasonably priced.
I would recommend this place for a first date or a 10 year anniversary. Plus, if you live in the neighborhood, you always meet new people in the area!
Opens at 5, but no happy hour specials.Listed in: Astoria, Queens

Review from Michael R.
Hicksville, NY
Right off the bad I want to say I loved this place and that the only reason I can't give this 5 stars is because of the overall selections on hand.
Now that's not to mean they were bad, in fact, for the location and expectations going in, they were amazing. They had my current favorite Spanish red and a Super Tuscan on hand both at absurdly affordable prices. What I mean is that there were only 6 selections of both red, white and port wines, and draft beers. There seemed to be about 7 or 8 in bottle.
When my friend and I got a hand on the menu, we both were startled at the offerings they had. While she was amazed at the beers on tap and said such, (the bartender on last night don't know his name, he was busy talking to a party of three at the other end chimed in telling us they rotate them out often so there is usually something new on tap), I was floored by the reds to choose from.
In particular, the two I mentioned above. Now understand, I fell in love about two years ago with Borsano, a smooth Spanish red, one that I pick up any time I head to the Stew Leonard's Wine Shop in Farmingdale. This my friend picked up for $13 - not a glass, but not a carafe as others had mentioned. I'd say they pour it into what resembles a bud vase, but one with a significant enough volume to provide you with about 2 and a half or 3 glasses of wine, so for $13, it's a good value. I opted instead for the Super Tuscan they had on hand. I'm a huge fan of Super Tuscans, just for the simple fact that A - I love Tuscan wines and B - I love when Tuscan vineyards decided to play around with their usual offerings. The one I ordered, I can't recall the name, set me back $15, an absurd price for a super tuscan. Considering they usually go for that much a glass, getting 2 out of it was a steal.
Now while I loved the wines, the physical space itself was very sweet. The music wasn't too loud, just loud enough to hear it but not be distracted while having a conversation, and dark, but not so dark that you couldn't see. Overall, it was gave off a comfortable ambiance, something my friend and I both enjoyed.
Finally, while we didn't have much interaction with the bartender, as I said he was busy with another party, he seemed to sense when we needed a refill and would get to it before we could.
Overall, this was a great bar in a very quiet location.
Oh, it would also be better if it were closer to the Steinway station, I know it's close to the N/W at Ditmars, but I live in Rego Park and need the R. Not going to stop me from going back, but just be aware that it's a "bit off the path".Listed in: The Places I Go Out, Drinks

My first experience here was with my mom, aunt & sister when they were visiting from Boston, & I can say I was ashamed I couldn't tell them I had been there before.
We went on a rainy evening- it was mellow, dark, cozy & quiet. Not a huge place, but the wine was wonderful & the staff knowledgeable. Perfect place to relax, catch up with friends:) -

They have quite a few craft beers on tap. (I am a craft beer lover)
I had the Stoudt's Scarlet Lady Ale this evening before going next door to Fatty's Cafe for dinner. On my previous visit. I had one of the Troeg's beers who's name escapes me.
The bartender gave me a complimentary plate of olives on both occasions. -

Long Island City, NY
Great service, only beers on tap and wine, so if you're looking for booze, or bottles, or a TV for that matter go elsewhere.
I've been a few times, same two guys both time and they were great. Nice chatty bartender and a bar-back/cook. The place is small, so the two of them cover everything very well.
On one visit, a couple next to us starting playing a video clip and the bartender came over and asked them to shut it off for consideration to the rest of the bar, which was really nice and not something I even expected.
The food menu is limited to meats, cheeses, a soup, and paninis. No full on kitchen, but the food I've had has been all good. Free olives when you sit down.
The tap beer selection is around ten, and all excellent beers. They seem to have at least one Six Point beer on tap which is quickly becoming my favorite brewery. Usually they have at least one or two good IPA's, which I'm a big fan of off the bat.
My wife likes the wine selection, I can't speak for it past the fact that she likes what they have. They give a big pour on the wine and it is a little pricey, but for the amount you get, I think it is pretty reasonable.
The place is pretty dimly lit, sometimes a little hard to read the menu, but since it isn't that long, don't worry too much about it. Nice music playing and no TV's. I take that to be a plus.
Crescent & Vine definitely getting added to one of my local favorites. -

This was a neighborhood favorite of mine when I was an Asti resident. A little off the beaten path, but worth the trip every time. Small and cozy with a good selection and helpful bartenders who will make great suggestions for you based on your tastes. Good beers on tap too.
Great place to bring friends to catch up if you are not up for a raucous evening of partying - that's not to say that you won't get a strong buzz from bottle after bottle of their delicious wine :)

Every time I've been here, the service and food/drinks has been exceptional. The staff can tell you anything you need to know about your wine or beer, and they're great selections. You can tell someone's put thought and work into making this place good. The atmosphere goes along with the wine/beer/food selections-- totally charming and romantic. It's candlelit and swanky but feels relaxed with a few small tables and bar seating. Cozy. It feels more Brooklyn than Queens.
You can get a plate of 3 cheeses for $6, which is a great deal considering how much is on the plate. The wines start at $9, but you get a little carafe so it's about 2 glasses. And everyone gets a free plate of mixed olives (delish!). Definitely worth a little walk from the train. -

I have only been to Astoria a couple of times and more recently to compare the 2 beer gardens. On this occasion I was checking out a friend's new pad. She had been talking about this wine bar not far from her apartment and on this unseasonably cool June night it sounded like a great idea.
We were seated quickly by a very friendly bartender who immediately told us that there were some wine choices not on the menu. We went with a bottle of Campos Reales tempranillo (which he suggested) and upon first sip we were in love. We ordered chorizo and manchego and goat cheese to accompany our new fave wine. The vibe was low key and perfect for the midweek catch up session my friend and I were having. I have to say it felt like it was an extension of my friends living room they do a good job of making you feel right at home here.
Some other bonuses that won me over 1) they provided us with extra bread without us asking 2) they have Young Double Chocolate stout on tap!
I think my friend has found her neighborhood go to spot! and I know I'll be asking to go back next time we hang out in Astoria! -

Astoria, NY
You order a cheese plate and what do you expect? A two inch sliver of three different cheeses with some condiments. When you order a cheese or meat plate here, it is enough for an entire meal. You really get an amazing quantity. The wine selection is excellent, the staff are fantastic. The only downside is that its pretty dark in there, but who cares!
