I've never really had Dulce de leche before. The closest thing was Vietnamese Coffee, thus when I saw it on the menu here, I was intrigued. If all Dulce de leche is this good, then I'm a fan of the product.
Walking into this place, it seemed out of place. I was visiting some friends, so I'm not that familiar with Lincoln Park, but my impression of it was a lot of bars, a lot of American style cafes, and a lot of American food. But walking into this place was a nice change of pace, especially on the blustery winter evening I was in.
It's warm and serves warm drinks, what else would you want?
Their crepes were awesome. After a lot of walking around, it really hit the spot. This also seems like a great place to relax and study, if needed. The atmosphere is cozy and peaceful.
The service was also great. Our waitress was really friendly and answered all of my touristy questions. As an outsider with a fresh opinion, I'd say this place rocks.
That's right, it takes Algerians to do a crepe that rocks! Those French had a good idea but didn't know how to take it to the next level.
The place was empty when I went here so I wasn't so sure about it when I first sat down. After looking at the menu I was amazed at the ingredients that you can choose from to put in crepes. I'm a savory crepe fan so seeing things like spicy sausage, feta, spinach and walnuts was a plus for me. They also have a great selection of sweet crepes as well if you're looking for something to kill that sugar craving. Ended up ordering two crepes and a couple coffees that added up to $25 and for the size of the crepes this was a great deal. The service was extremely friendly and quick. We were in and out in under 30 minutes. I'll be going back again soon, this is currently my favorite crepe place in Chicago.
I have been craving for crepes or pancakes for almost two years since I came to Chicago. I used to buy Russian pancakes in my hometown and missed it a lot. But recently I found this cafe (Crepe & Coffee Palace on Clark) which turned out to be Algerian. Algerian crapes are very similar to Russian, big and thin, filled with different stuffing... chicken, salmon, ham or cheese. When I cook pancakes myself I add more butter so it gets tastier and less dry. But honestly I am in a mood to bake pancakes twice a year :)
After a crepe with chicken I was still hungry... then, I ordered one more with chicken and cream cheese, after this I realized that it was too much for me :) There was no sour cream that I do like with pancakes , so I had to use ranch dressing instead. They also have a lot of exotic things like tea in a tiny teapot served with mint leaves, Algerian coffee.
I like this place, even though I had to wait half an hour for each crepe. Not sure if it's cheap or expansive, rather something in the middle. $120 for 5 people including tips, we ordered two crepes per person, soup and a drink.... one crepe is around $8.
This is a really cool Algerian Cafe. They have great coffee and some pretty decent crepes. It has a neat decor with maps and art from the region. Great place to head after a meal in Lincoln Park. Definitely need to give this place a whirl, I mean it's only going to cost you a few bucks to enjoy their amazing coffee!
This place is really great! the crepes aren't outrageously overpriced and most of the stuff comes with soup. I think they have a place in Andersonville as well?
Go to Crepe Bistro, buy some crepes, bring them here, and have the coffee. Definitely good coffee.
The crepes here are delicious. I went savory and my friend went sweet. Both were phenomenal.
We also asked for some recommendations from our waitress and the two suggestions she gave were right on.
I've been eating here for some time and it recently occurred to me that I haven't written a review for this place. I like the crepes as I think the ingredients are fresh and healthy and tastes so good!!
I can't remember the names, but I always have crepes with fruits and nuts and relish it!!
I love this place:-) the crepes are cheap, delicious and fresh and the service is great. Very friendly and quick.
I also recommend the mint tea..goes great with the crepes!
Even though I had to endure a truly harrowing experience in trying to find this little place (Ummm yeah I walked ten blocks in the opposite direction in the freezing cold). The food was just awesome. Its BYOB which is helloo amazing. Friends, the crepes here are just to die for. I had the Chicago crepe and added chicken. Oh my was it delicious with sun dried tomatoes. Oooh I loved it. And then my group and I were feeling kinda saucy and ordered dessert. The dessert crepes are to die for. We ordered two and shared with the group which was an awesome idea. I cannot wait to go back!
After reading the reviews on Yelp, we decided to give this place a shot. Here are our conclusions.
1) Service was so incredibly slow even though there were only 4 tables in used.
2) The repetitive music drove us a little nuts.
3) Overpriced for the quality of crepes.
Definitely would not be heading back there. The coffee was okay though.
I live a couple of blocks away and after walking by this place many times finally decided to give it a try. I've been there on three different occassions and had a great experience each time. I am a big fan of the savory crepes. On my first visit the waitress suggested that I add spicy sausage to my crepe, which I did and it was delicious. I love turkish coffee (it's very strong and thick) and they do a nice job with it here. Last time I was here I had a sweet crepe, which was delicious also. The waitstaff if very nice and attentive (it's been slow every time I went in here) and the prices are fair for what you get. I wouldn't go with a group of more than maybe 6 people- it is a small space.
I feel like I've stepped into another world every time I visit, I love it. This is a great breakfast/brunch/lunch place.
A nice place for a nice afternoon date.
Enjoyed the Icon... (the first choice on the savory menu). Good, have had better - have had worse.
Service was 'beige.'
Great crepes and good wine pricey selection.
All around great service .......
Food was awesome...........
Would recommend this place......
Ate here for lunch today...Loved it!
I will write more later...
We went there for a Saturday breakfast and was excited by the decor. See, from my past experiences, the places that appear somewhat questionable serve the most delicious dishes. We sat down for some rooibos tea and our pleasant server was patient with our utter indecision. We took forever to order, but she didn't seem to mind one bit. I made my own spin on the Greek crepe and it was great. I had them make mine with egg whites and spinach and they did a great job. The olives were Greek-style but had a chutney-inspired flavor. We also ordered a crepe nutella, which I highly recommend. Brought back memories of living in France and anytime that a creperie can bring back those memories, it's a good thing.
This place is one of my favorites in Chicago. I used to go all the time when I went to DePaul (it's only a few blocks from campus) and now I try to eat there at least once a month. I went there for lunch today and was so pleased I just had to finally Yelp about it.
The service is great...I've never noticed any considerable slowness, but I guess I've never been in a hurry there. The owner and other employees are incredibly friendly and seem really happy that you're there.
The food is the real draw though, both the savory and the sweet crepes are great. Everything is vegetarian with the option to add meat and comes with a choice of chicken or sweet potato soup, which is amazing, and I generally hate sweet potato. And don't miss the pistachio and cashew baklava for dessert!
The decor of the place is really cool too, it's an Algerian-Parisian crepe place, so the feel is sorta like the Algerian district in Paris. It's definitely something you don't see too often on this side of the Atlantic. If you're ever in the area, be sure to stop by. If you're not, it's worth the trip.
Note: I think the place is actually called Icosium Kafe but the sign outside says Crepe & Coffee Palace. There is also a location by the same owners in Andersonville.
DISCLAIMER: I went here before they switched the manager and so I'm used to better, it went downhill after he left.
Pros: - tasty
-fresh
- allow you to build your own and the lentil soup before the crepe is good
Cons: -a little pricey (not too bad)
-small
- every time I've gone here after the old manager left there has been some problem with the bill, once they charged my friend's credit card twice and refused to admit their mistake, another time they added $10 to our bill mysteriously I did boycott the place for a year but it is delicious so I decided to go back but not often
A real gem. Crepes are good, but the house soup is out of this world.
I've been here for a year now, but their was this one week i came 3 times and i live downtown, so it's a bike ride away. BUT it's so good, and there's nothing like it downtown..food and price wise that I can keep coming back for more!!!
I love their savory crepes..Tasty!
their sweet crepes are DDDDelicious!
Dont let the decor scare you away, cuz i promise wall art doesn't do the crepes justice!
I really like the crepes here. They are pricey (for crepes. Still inexpensive for dinner in general), but because they are so full of filling and you get a free soup with every savory crepe, I feel like I definitely get my money's worth. The food is a lot better than the other two crepe places down the block.
Sometimes service edges on being slow, but it's always nice. I used to work down the block and came in to get a mint tea to soothe hideous laryngitis I had developed. The counter staff was so nice and sympathetic that they gave me a soup for free with my tea and told me to feel better soon! So nice. :D
The only thing that is a bit weird, and someone will have to correct me on this if I am wrong, but I don't think they have a restroom. If they do, it's gotta be super hidden, because it's a tiny space and I haven't seen one.
Get the Marrakesh crepe, it is very good! The Greek crepe is so-so. I wasn't impressed with the olives. The dessert crepes are also very good.
My absolute favorite crepe place in chicago! Yes, i've tried la creperie and the other place on clark and the other one on broadway. None of them come close to this algerian crepe house. Anyone can make a decent nutella crepe, but what makes this place special is a lot more interesting fillings and the ability to make your own crepes by combining them in any way you want. My favorites are labella and perla (both sweet ) and palace for the savory. On top of the crepe, nothing beats the wonderful mint tea you get here (and no, the mint is fresh, not part of the tea bag :)
We had two savory crepes and two sweet crepes. The savories were the smoked salmon with nuts and the night special. They were ok, but I really enjoyed the sweet crepes. The sweet ones came with lots of filling with fruits and chocolate, and they were full to the brim. I would come back for the sweet ones only.
Come for the food, not the service.
The food here remains solid, the sweet crepes are what keep me coming back. I love the Crepe Aziz (strawberry, kiwi and Nutella) with dark chocolate instead of Nutella. The fruit is fresh, the crepe perfectly done and the presentation artful.
The only major downer about coming here is that service is painfully slow. The staff is always extremely friendly, but very inattentive. I came in today at an off time so the place wasn't crowded, but I still had to wait over 10 minutes for someone to come by and take my order. My food was ready quickly and perfect as always, but when I finished I sat with my finished plate in front of me for another 10 while servers and staff passed by regularly. I've grown accustomed to leaving the tip on the table and going up to the register to pay, rather that seeing how long it will take for someone to leave the check.
Bottom line: Awesome food (4.5 stars), inattentive, yet friendly service (2 stars). Don't stop in if you're in a hurry.
TIP: It's BYOB, maybe a few drinks will help you forget the slow service.

I'm usually not into crepes at all but my friend really wanted some while in town so we found this place on yelp. It's a cute little, quaint place.. I had the dulce de leche crepes with vanila ice cream.. SO GOOD. I finished mine before my friend's.. oops! She had the one with nutella and strawberries and kiwi's, and our plates were served with a cute little umbrella. Aww. Yum, dulce de leche..
So so yummy!
The crepes are ginormous and there are tons to choose from. The ingredients are fresh and delicious and the combos unique.
The Palace crepe is amazing, with fresh bell peppers, tomatoes, goat cheese, nuts and spinach. Also, don't miss the Chicago Crepe.
If you want something sweet, the Crepe Amar will definitely fulfill your sugar craving. Nothing better than fresh fruit and chocolate :)
These crepes reminded me of when I had my first savory crepe in Paris. This place is wonderful. I like the style - very cozy and mediterranean. A friend and I ordered the Crepe Marrakech which is toasted Almonds, Rasins, baby Spinach, caramelized onions, fresh mint, cream cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and tapenade with chicken. The toppings were so delicious and the crepe itself was presented nicely. Later on, we both split a nutella filled crepe. I opted to add bananas to it to remind me of the street crepes on Champs-Eleysees.
Mint tea goes well with the entire meal. Get it!
This is one of my favorite crepe places! Very delicious.... both the sweet and savory crepes. I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. It's a small place, but very cozy and they have great service. I definitely will keep coming back here for more!
Sunday AM visit to Crepe & Coffee Palace was a treat. I was promised a cool place and yummy interesting food by a female friend....it delivered.
Warning, the bathroom is in the kitchen....which kinda weirded me out for a place in the US. Elsewhere in the world, pas de probleme....
The turkish coffee was brill. The custom-made crepe was outstanding. The soup was tasty and interesting - with the spice paste served seperately. The place is small and cozy with a really friendly staff.
Given the location and the fact that they cook near the front of the resto, I would *LOVE* to see this place open a window to the street and sell crepes Parisian style to passers by, wrapped in wax paper, à emporter. I'd certainly be a regular, for a nutella banana crepe while walking my dog in the evening.
I love this place! The crepes are made to perfection! They have a great selection of both sweet and savory crepes, so it's great for any meal. My favorite is the Crepe Amar with fresh strawberries and Nutella (mmmm, Nutella). You can also make your own crepe based on a huge selection of ingredients. The coffee is also fantastic (and comes in a cute mug). The ambiance is really chill (although it can get crowded) and the staff is friendly and hippy-ish.
Really cute, funky place! The crepes are good! The employees are very helpful and even helped describe certain ingredients and brought some out for us to try before deciding on a crepe that contained the mystery ingredient. They also added whipped cream and ice cream once for free just to be nice. Kind of pricey but a cute hole-in-the wall.
I was happy with my experience here for a few reasons:
1. It's a short, three-block walk from the Fullerton station.
2. They have delicious teas like the mint tea with honey.
3. It's Muslim-owned and they have halal turkey and Algerian sausange (yum).
4. The portions are very filling cuz everything comes with soup.
5. The dessert crepes are delish!
However, what confuses me about the whole thing is that there are two places with almost identical names. According to yelp, Coffee and Crepes is at 2433 N. Clark (which is correct, cuz I was there last week) and Icosium Cafe is at 5200 N. Clark.
But, on Google Maps, the street locations are reversed for the two, which totally threw me off. What gives?
I don't know...I wasn't feeling it. Meet a group for brunch and it just didn't really do anything for me. I'd try it again, but next time have a sweet crepe.
I ordered the Crepa di Roma with veggie soup. The soup was a pureed veggie, it was nice, but lacked salt and any depth of flavor. My crepe had spinach, basil, tomatoes, mozzerella, capers and a vineagrette of some type. The crepe was a little thick and chewier than I would have liked. The sweet crepes looked more delicate.
It's a cute place, and I wanted to like it, so I'll give it another try. Same owners as the place up in Andersonville, I'll compare/contrast.
This place is just adorable! It's very tiny, but cozy. It definitely looks like a cafe you might see in Europe.
I love the variety of crepes and ingredients that they offer, and if none of the crepes that they offer on the menu sounds appealing, you can customize your own crepe... and trust me, they offer a large variety of fresh ingredients and veggies. In addition, all of the crepes can be made into a salad, as well.
I'm a big fan of savory crepes, but their dessert crepes are to die for! In my opinion, anything with nutella is a winner.
The staff members are also extremely friendly. Overall a great place I strongly suggest.
i like savory crepes... but the crepes i grew up on are japanese crepes that is more like ihop, with ketchup, mayo and burger patty and such...
the crepes here are more gourmet and different from your normal mayo and ketchup.. its definitely flavorful with creative pairings of different ingredients you dont usually see... every bite is mouthful of goodness... just a bit pricey.
the place i rather small but with cozy, nice ambiance.. service was rather slow the day i ate.. but its an overall nice place
Eh. I was really looking forward to trying this place after passing by it for years and years, as I am a crepe FIEND, but unfortunately it was a bit of a letdown.
Service was friendly, but slow.
I had the chicken cilantro soup, which definitely had the potential to be absolutely delicious. Only it was barely lukewarm. I am not one to send anything back unless it's completely inedible, so I dealt with it.
Crepes arrived - I had the Chicago crepe. Which was cold. Maybe it's supposed to be that way, but I was expecting at least the crepe itself to be warm, as if it were made fresh and not pulled out of a refrigerator.
Dessert was the banana/nutella crepe. Again, cold!
I'll eat here again just to make sure this wasn't a bad day for them, but for now I'll have to stick with the "meh" rating.
I love this place so much I have been coming here for a good three years. It's very out of the way for me but well worth it. I have pretty much tried everything on the menue but I love the Icosium crepe (cheka chuka) and Marrakesh from the savory section (The only crepe I don't like is the Chicago crepe). And almost everything from the sweet section is good I usually make my own (dulce de leche with almonds any nothing else yumyum!) As for drinks the dulce de leche and mint tea are amazzzzzzzing
I recently became obsessed with this place....and came twice in one week. The nutella and banana crepe is good, as well as the icosium (savory) which has goat cheese, carmelized onions, peppers, and i think pine nuts. With all sweet crepes you get a scoop of ice cream, and the pistachio was delicious (and im not a huge fan of pistachio ice cream).
The dulce de leche coffee is DELICIOUS. This would be a dangerous place for my waistline if i loved close by! Also, its a good place to have lunch before visiting the Zoo or the Conservatory!
I have been to creperies in several cities like Seattle, San Francisco, New York, Toronto and other places in Chicago but none can hold a candle to this little creperie, sandwiched between an active garage entrance. The front is definitely eye catching; I almost didn't try the place because from the outside the look can either be interpreted as "charming" or "ghetto thrifty", and given the crap restaurants around this area I was leaning to the latter. Luckily I took the plunge. The inside atmosphere is great, and got to love the middle east pop music too.
The crepe layer is perfect here. The sweet crepes are second to none: great nutella and fresh fruits. A key ingredient to the sweet crepes, however, is the two scoops of ice cream. I think I would have to take it down a half-star without the ice cream haha. The savory crepes are good too but don't tend to have fillings with any striking flavors. Coffee is excellent but the Turkish coffee is almost like eating moistened coffee power haha.
If I ever visit Chicago in the future, there are only three restaurants that I'd need to visit: Ruths Chris, Pho Tank and this creperie.
