I will give this place a 3 star rating as the food here is only so-so, about average just like any other buffet around town.
The crab legs is the only thing worth coming, but even that is not so fresh!
For the price this place is quite ok and not bad at all. Be careful of the sushi/sashimi, I seen them defrosting the tuna and salmon on the dirty floor! Sashimi shouldn't be touched @ a Chinese buffet anyways, haha.
The slices are not evenly cut and look a bit sloppy!
Service here is ok but it seems like all the servers are not so happy and show it on their face.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Oct 14, 2007
We drove by this place on the way to the Miramar air show this weekend and decided to give it a try for dinner. Not being familiar with the area, we were a little skeptical and not expecting much, especially when we saw the $13.99 price tag as we walked in.
Well, we were pleasantly surprised. One thing for certain, it's good value. For a mere $14, you get shrimp in different preparations, snow crab, dungeness crab, sushi and sashimi, and even shark's fin soup (ok, who knows how much actual sharks fin is in there). There's even purportely lobster. While we saw a tray with bits of lobster shell, we never once saw any lobster served. The food tasted good, not great, but what do you expect at a buffet.
Overall a pleasant surprise. May consider this as a dinner option next time on the way back from SD.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jen R.San Diego, CA241442313Jan 21, 2008
When I came here for the first time with a group of 20 friends, my husband and I were pretty impressed at how clean the place was as well as the amount of food they were serving.
The service was prompt and they were always refilling our drinks. We went there again with our family and they seemed to have liked it. The food is definitely not greasy and nasty like other food I've seen at other buffets. It's reasonable especially when they serve a ton of crab legs! You can order pho from the guy preparing it behind the counter. You have 5 choices of the different soups they serve. It's not bad at all. Try it once if you're in the area!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Albert W.Bellevue, WA728758952Mar 16, 2008
Our intrepid hero walked in at noon on a weekend, expecting a less-than-sane buffet, and was not disappointed. For starters, they didn't even have the price for the buffet labeled correctly on their sign (it's $13.99 instead of $11.99 as the sign at the front would have you believe). Then, after he was seated with his companion, they set down plates, a fork, a knife... and... "Hey, where's the chopsticks?" Two Asian people walk into an Eastern cuisine buffet and they don't automatically give you chopsticks? Thumbs down. Crazy in the bad way.
Our hero's sidekick had been to the buffet before and recommended the seafood. There were definitely some great choices:
- Fried frog legs (Yum! Tastes like chicken, but less boney)
- Cold crab legs
- Hot crab legs
- Baked crab meat
- Sea cucumber
- Chocolate clam
- Cold oysters
- Baked oysters
- Seaweed salad (it's prepackaged, but it still tastes good)
- Sashimi (not really a "great" choice, but an acceptable choice as it's not inedible and hey... all you can eat)
Items in the buffet that were subpar included:
- Basically anything that had chicken in it (satay, fried, General Tso's, etc.)
- Potstickers
- Fried spring rolls
- Fruit (not quite sure on the freshness, but at least the pineapple was okay)
- Sushi (there's something not right with the rice)
- The desserts (selection was pretty poor)
- Noodles and rice (you didn't come here to fill up on this... did you?)
PROS:
- Pretty wide selection of items
- All day dinner on weekends
- A really cheap lunch buffet on weekdays
CONS:
- They don't serve juice, only pop
- Anything set away from the main buffet area (sushi, dessert) is pretty bad
- The washroom is really freaky. Neon green lighting and a sharps disposal bin for used needles??? Do people shoot up in here or what?Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Keith W.San Diego, CA3426032Jul 1, 2009
This is one of the worst buffets in San Diego. The selection is not that great. The entire place with its decor and fake trees looks tacky.
When I came here I immediately was thinking "Typical Nasty-Looking Buffet."
And I was hoping the food would make up for its poor appearance ...
... Nope. The food wasn't that good either. I really do not ever plan on coming back here ever again.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Calvin D.Corona, CA9925425Oct 28, 2008
I'm usually against buffets but we went here last weekend for a friends birthday... $14 all day for sunday... not bad compared to other places... and you get a free meal on ur birthday too! (not sure if its an official thing, maybe they just gave the birthday girl a free meal because we had a party of 10?)
Anyways... the food here was OK... just OK... nothing special... always a plus when a buffet has my favorties, like sushi, seaweed salad, coconut shrimp, and lobster legs!
The best part was the variety of fruits and desserts!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Hans M.San Diego, CA2118414Jun 29, 2007
Well, Crazy Buffet is newer. They just open like 6 months ago. It has Sashimi & other regular buffet dishes. The wait staffs are nicer, the plates are cleaner. All these because it's new, just like East Buffet 3 years ago.
It's a bit more expensive than your usual Chinese buffet, but less than Onami & others.
Like all buffet venues, they will go downhill at some point. So go there while you can.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Johnny N.Glendale, CA303705May 13, 2008
Wow, some people were really harsh about this place. I'm use to Asian Buffet restaurants in LA where it's not as clean.
About this place: large open clean space, tons of parking, great food selection. They offer many things not offered at other asian buffets like coconut shrimp and a wider variety of sushi. It's not Grade A sushi of course but it's still good ENOUGH. The prices are very fair and yes the waitresses do take a little while to fill up your water. The meat and fruits seemed pretty good and CLEAN. I found no bugs crawling on the strawberries and the meat didn't seem like yesterday's leftovers being reheated and recycled.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oh So Fresh B.San Diego, CA1681Jan 27, 2008
Crazy buffet? so not something to go crazy over.
Not the best buffet to go to. The sushi is dry and most of the food is way too salty. Service is Mediocre.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 28, 2007
For $7.30 lunch its an unbelievable deal for really good green beans, noodles and fried rice, u know its good cuz it was filled with Asians like me there. The sushi looked like no one was eating much of it so I declined to try it, their red bean bun was dry inside unfortunately, their fried dumpling was OK though. Will definately go back whenever in the area though!
