Bitey and I got trapped in the basement of crazy gideons for like TEN minutes when I went to exchange some of my beloved substandard merchandise. It's not that we were actually being held against our will, it's just that returns are handled in the basement and we were down there when the power went out. It was a harrowing experience. I got the impression that this happens a lot there. They shouldn't buy their wiring from themselves, it seems to be backfiring.
I'm really into crap, and Daniel's comment that crazy gideon's is like the 99-cent store of electronics is dead on... only nothing costs 99-cents and everything sucks.
I give it 5 stars because I find Crazy Gideon's highly amusing... Just don't go there to buy anything. -

I was pursuing the area and got excited when i stumbled upon Crazy Gideon's because I grew up with his commercials. But how is this place still in business? Everything was outdated, looked like they were lifted equipment, and there was a thick film of grime blanketing everything.
And please be aware that they have a poorly partitioned section for adult DVDs. Really old (from the early 90's?), bland, low-production titles.
Staff seemed creepily friendly and was inadvertently offensive. -

This place is like the .99 cent store of electronics. Yes just like the commercial states, "they stock them deep and sell em cheap".
If your looking for a 10 year old 20" t.v for $30 this is the place to go. Nothing cutting edge here, pretty much close out material that other stores dump out. Crazy Gideons makes its money by flipping product. They purchase close outs and sell it to the public. The salvage yard of home electronics. -

Everything they say about Crazy Gideon's is true. The classic commercials, the junky, dirty, outdated merchandise. But I have another to add: ethnic stereotyping! I happened to wander into Crazy Gideon's while on a stroll around Traction Ave., and as soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the man behind the counter with, "China?"
As in, "Are you from China?" Except he didn't actually say it in a complete sentence. Just, "China?" When I didn't respond, he repeated himself. Then, met with further silence, he tried, "Japan?"

There's no way to avert your eyes the first time you see a Crazy Gideon ad. It's the textbook execution of the ad with the salesman raving his prices are so low, he must have early onset dementia. Without blinking, Gideon hurls surprisingly lightweight electronics to the unyielding asphalt. With spittle collecting in the corners of his mouth, and a steely glare, he rants that he's "CRAAAAAZY" to sell his crap for such low prices. Gideon ain't crazy, but you are if you walk out of this place sporting a 1978 wood cabinet TV from Shmagnovox.
I used to work in this area, so for months I'd glance at the "Going out of business" signs plastered on the iron gate in front of the store. Later I found out the sign said, with the middle word in a small script font, they were going out "for" business. Haha. Assholes.
Whatever -- this place sucks. Enjoy the commercials, have a look around the place, but don't expect to find any deals. If you're there anyway, grab a strong coffee or a Jolt Cola at Groundwork across the street, and browse some art supplies in the Sci Arc store. -

I heard so much hype about this place but sadly, it didn't live up to its reputation. Maybe it was my fault for going in there with such high hopes but I seriously thought that I could at least find one piece of electronic equipment that I wouldn't regret blowing a hundred dollars for. I did see a tv stand that was selling for like $60 that I would have bought if I knew the dimensions of my TV, etc. Otherwise, the place is full of junk. If you know what you want, go there and see if you have it, but it's not a place where you go roaming around to check out the new stuff.

I don't recommend that anyone actually make a purchase at CG's, for the same reasons everyone else has mentioned. But it IS worth a visit for the bizarre stock, the nutty staff, and the entertainment value. It's not just the dirty, out-of-date electronics that litter the place (MiniDisk players???) They also offer porn, specifically a few bins of obscure, cheap porn dvds kept under a canopy to the left of the entrance. It's almost as good as an afternoon at St.Vincent De Paul's thrift warehouse.

I visited the store back in 2004 and the first thing I noticed was the salesman. He looked like a homeless person, long dirty hair, probably hadn't showered in a month. He wore a dark green tuxedo with a purple tie and an orange top hat. Something from the circus. The smell was horrible.
It was like a trip back in time. The TV's on display were close to ten years old.
We didn't stick around.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Love the commercials, but this place is NOT Crazy Eddie's of NYC. I actually bought a telephone once at Crazy Eddie's back in the 80s and I think a Sony Walkman...you know, with the cassettes. Uncannily, the funny thing is the merchandise at CG's is really quite retro and in fact kinda dirty, like it was stored in the basement of my uncle's house, so the over-all effect is like being transported back to the 80s minus the big hair and the shoulder pads. Add cigarette-smoking Israelis and cat pee and you get the picture.

I don't care what you say about the "store", or their "products". What really matters to me are the commercials on TV, and they're worth 5 stars alone! Keep it up Crazy Gideon!

My thoughts of this place is not my cup of tea! They sell nothing but closeout bankrupt junk! I wouldn't be surprise if the stuff they sell was the result of a trailer hijacking! Be very skeptical what they will try to sell you! I'd avoid this place totally! And from what I heard, Crazy Gigeon is going out of business and is going to convert his building into some type of housing.
