From "Crazy" to "Yummy", what's next? Yucky buffet? I haven't had much luck with the Asian buffets, but it beats the ones in Sacto. With the anticipation of being Livermore's first buffet restaurant, the restaurant was very busy at opening. With all the hoopla gone, the place is lucky to have to half the parking lot full.
The food is japanese/chinese, with a side of chicken nuggets and pizza. It's not dirty (whew!), but I did get a "belly" (as my daughter would call it) ache once.
I don't hate the restaurant, but I wouldn't dine here for a special occasion. It's tolerance for loud obnoxious kids, such as mine, does make this place somewhat desirable.
I think I just....
Oh god..
Hold my head up..
I may need water..
This place is now called Yummy Buffet, but not so yummy after all...
Food selection and quality have both gone down after the change of ownership.
We went to Yummy twice with the hope of seeing some improvements, but both times ended up very dissapointed.
In addition, of all the times that I drove by, their window curtains/blinds are always down, not allowing you to see what's inside... I wonder why they would do that... maybe they have some kind of "secret ingredient"???
I miss CRAZY Buffet!!
For the price, the food here is decent. Nothing spectacular to write home about, but still worth the try. Would rather eat here than the overrated and overpriced Todai. Believe it or not the best thing about the place is their pizza (thick crust dough..I love it)
The place recently changed it's name to Yummy Buffet, and now there are a bunch of flat panel TV's on the walls. Plus, the pizza is even more yummier. Sadly though, the food quality has dropped somewhat since the name change. Good place to bring out of town guests if you're not in the mood to cook for them.
Yikes!
I've been here 2 times - I believe in second chances.
Not sure why I ever gave it 1 chance.
Just think of the name - does that make you hungry?
So anyway - I paid for a buffet meal each time I visited this location, but, each time I came here, everything looked so unappetizing that I went home hungry - I filled up on very little and ate only what I thought wouldn't make me sick.
Ok so maybe I am a bit picky, but this food is going in to your body after all and believe me - if you read my other reviews - I've been burned by many restaurants and it's taken days to recover from bad food.
I actually never have gotten sick here but I've also eaten portions here that are smaller than a 5 year olds' snack during snack time.
My co-workers loved this place...me, not so much.
It is broken down into several areas:
They make wok food for you...you choose ingredients and sauce. This is the best thing they do..but it is salty and not a fresh as one might think.
Steam table Chinese...lots of fish, fried things, AND pizza and french fries!! go figure? (decidedly not fresh) There is also soup...which just tastes like salt.
Desserts and fruit...frozen yogurt. Now I am a dessert fan...but there is nothing here I would waste my calories on! Sadly fruit is never ripe....
In the words of fellow YELPERS...you are Crazy to go back!
I love the movie "A Christmas Story". One of my favorite scenes was when the family's turkey dinner was gobbled up by the neighbor's dogs on Christmas night and as a result, they had to dine at a Chinese restaurant because that was the only place open. Well, that was us on Christmas night. No, our dinner wasn't gobbled up by the neighbor's dog and we didn't get a fa-ra-ra-ra chorus sang to us. But we did end up dinner-less and of course the only places open on Christmas night are Chinese restaurants. This is how we ended up at Crazy Buffet.
Crazy Buffet is the typical Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet. I don't have high expectations for these type of places. Crazy Buffet had the usual Chinese fare of lo mein, sweet and sour pork, fried rice, and other dishes swimming in grease. They also had a Mongolian grill. The Mongolian grill included a variety of meats, veggies, noddles, and three different sauces to choose from. I chose the Kung Pao sauce. They should rename it "No Pow" sauce because my Mongolian grilled dish had zero flavor. They also had sushi, but I don't touch the sushi at any Chinese buffet. You never know how long it's been sitting there.
The worst part of my dinner was dessert. There was pudding (vanilla, chocolate, and tapioca), jello, fruit, ice cream, and cream puffs. I tried the cream puffs and ice cream. The cream puffs were horrible! It was as hard as a rock. It wasn't hard because it was frozen or anything. The center part had no creaminess or moistness. It was simply dry and hard. It was as if I had bitten into a golf ball. The ice cream was sour. It was as if they used rancid milk to make their ice cream. I was probably better off having the lime green jello.
Crazy Buffet definitely lives up to their name... CRAZY. I'm glad I survived without getting sick!
Pretty decent food, not bad at all. Parking is good as well.
The sushi was better than I thought. Way better tasting than Moonstar and Todai. The hot food was also not at all bad.
The price is very affordable...we spent like 86 bucks for 9 people!
Waiters and waitresses don't speak much...lol!
I've been to the Crazy Buffet in Sunnyvale and did not like it. So I already came here with a closed mind. In fact, I typed out my review the night before.
Unexpectedly my hunger got the best of me right before lunch and I actually looked forward to eating something out of the norm.
I stuck to the "healthier" dishes: green beans, corn, and fish.
I avoided the _no thanks I don't want diarrhea or parasites or msg_dishes: sushi, soup.
I avoided the_I don't want to hit the gym_dishes: french fries, fried chicken, chicken/pork in batter in sweet/sour sauce, basically anything fried.
I did try the sesame balls and got one that had nothing inside! I picked another and this time it had dried, clumpy red beans. One of the worst sesame balls ever.
A plus for them is their large space that's good for large groups. Especially during the work week for nearby companies. And their $6.99 prices. But, I can't help wondering how they make their profit? I don't even want to think about quality issues!
Btw, Ahnah mentioned their kimchi - you taste more of the cabbage, I was really confused, not a taste I'm accustomed to. Yuck.
And let's not forget about their fly problem. I didn't see it on any of the food, just around the tables, but it's still gross!!
Sorry, I tried to open my mind - just a little - but I wasn't really given that opportunity!
Indeed, I was crazy even thinking about trying this place, but since the one in Sunnyvale was decent, I was expecting about the same quality. Boy was I wrong.
Me being a Japanese, I decided to try their sushi. Well, rice was hard after being left out there for so long. Fish was probably not thawed well, so it had no taste. Kalbi and pork chop were very tough, as they were almost like jerky. Their kimchee was too sour, probably too fermented. Hot and sour soup was ordinary. The best dish was Mongolian beef, as it was not too spicy but with some flavor.
Maybe I should've gone there a little later when more people showed up, thus allowing the new food to come out more often. I moved on that same day, so wanted something quick and cheap. Well, taste was definitely cheap. Unless you just want to fill your stomach without ever considering the quality of food being served, don't go there.
Now it's called Kowloon Buffet (new ownership?) and lunch is $6.49. Been there 2x in the last month and it's actually not bad and a great value. Hence 4 stars.

If you're really hungry, it fills you up. Among Chinese buffets it's toward the bottom. Not too many… Read more »
Typical low quality Chinese buffet food. The Chinese engineers who drag me here love this place and can't get enough and would give it 5 stars. Me on the other hand am your typical white guy white guy who cares about the quality of the food over the quantity and give this place a one.
I fly to China a lot for work and it seems to be a Chinese cultural thing in that they just love buffets no matter how bad the food is. I have been told many many times that you have to "Eat more to get your moneys worth" when I eat my one small plate of food and they are on their 4 or 5 plate of piled high.
If your Chinese or some other "nese" you will probably love this place and think you died and went to heaven.
Of all things they got one right, the name Crazy, you've got to be crazy to eat here!
This place is relatively new when compare to Hometown Buffet. And I guess so does the cook, so new that he doesn't even know how to cook! the only thing I enjoy is the sushi, cause it involves no cooking!
Nough said.
The Crab legs are worth the price for dinner alone!
The sushi sucked - but if you buy your sushi from the supermarket then you will love it. ha
The Won Ton Soup was better when you add rice (the way I use to eat when I was a kid)
The Honey Walnut Prawns was too sweet and I can taste mayo! (eww)
The Salted Shrimp was yummy but so messy to eat.
Its your basic all you can eat Chinese American food.
The desserts suck - usually jello and fruit (it being winter - nothing in season) and Soft Serve Ice Milk.
Better to go when busy - the food is made more frequently so it is hotter at those times.
The staff of course if Asian and they are quick to take away used plates and fill drinks. I love that!
Can't go to often because you'll get sick of it.
This is your typical Asian style buffet.. The prices are not something I'd pay for that kind of food, and honestly I don't think anyone even eats there anymore.. When they first opened they were always busy and especially popular with the high school students with late night cravings. Now.. it's like I can hear the crickets chirping while I eat.. Dead as a door nail!
Think it is such a deal, huh? Do not be fooled! Sure, there is a mountain of crab legs...when you have spent the entire meal cracking and digging for a pittance of crab meat, and you realized that your all filled up from the rice in the all-you-can-eat mediocre sushi...is it such a deal? No. It is a rip-off. It sort of has the feel of a bad buffet in Las Vegas. I did give it three times and no, the third time was not a charm.
I was very happy with Crazy Buffet last night when we tried it. They have a great selection, and all the food was very fresh. Each time I went over to the buffet there was lots of steaming hot, very fresh items. Some of the food was just ok, but myself, my daughter and my boyfriend all ate well for about 30 bucks. The California rolls were much better than grocery store (which I wont eat) but not as good as some restaurants I have been to.
Delta :
No Milk (WTF, my daughter was dissapointed)
No sprinkles for the ice cream (My daughters dissapointment as well)
Lots of fried food, more Vegi dishes would make this better.
Desserts sucked
Plus:
Huge Selection
Clean, Nice, New
Attentive Waitstaff
Hot, and fresh foods
This place gets 3 stars because the food is decent, service is good, and the prices are very fair.
It has all my favorite Chinese food dishes including good honey prawns, pot stickers, and chow mein, plus they also have fried shrimp, steamed crab, sushi, and Mongolian BBQ.
The hubby thought I was crazy for trying sushi at a buffet. I didn't get sick or anything but in the future I'll skip the sushi and load up on the other things.
We live around the corner from Crazy buffet so it's a cheap and convenient choice when I don't want to cook dinner but if you have the choice I would recommend New Empire Buffet on Stanley. Read my review - I gave it one extra star.
A buffet with a good number of items. Not many vegetarian choices but if you eat meat, seafood and fish you can try several dishes. For a good price you get a wide selection of food, sushi, Chinese dishes, fish like salmon or sole and even junk food like fries and pizza. Sometimes they have special items like huge crab legs and oysters. Sure, this is not a place where you go for a healthy meal but buffet places are like that, you should know it. I would suggest them to keep tables and seats cleaner, though and try to smile.
Okay, so its cheap. And its bountiful. Buts its a quarter step above fast food, greasy, and very bland. The only thing I really liked was the canned pineapple. Meh.
The unfortunate crux of the buffets that do not rotate their menu is that after a while people get tired of the same old thing, so the traffic dies down, and once the traffic dies down the food quality drops off dramatically, which further impacts the traffic, etc etc
So the food here is really typical of any all you can eat asian place. This is unfortunately compounded by the fact that they have been around for a while, so the food is not so hot and doesn't rotate as much due to fewer people coming to eat.
There are some highlights:
1. All you can eat soft serve ice cream
2. You can Unagi until you explode!
3. Tapioca Pudding
The crab here used to be really good, but since the traffic has cut down the crab is dry and overcooked, I am guessing from sitting under a lamp forever?
If you want to get the best out of this place you really should go during a high traffic time as the food rotates through faster.
I'm not 'crazy' about all you can eat places, but this one wasn't too bad, certainly enjoyed it more than Todai's but not as much as the Moonstar in Daly City.
It's a buffet...blah food that is good when you feel like pigging out.
I was very disappointed with this place! When I ordered hot tea I was given hot water. From their advertising you are led to believe that they have an incredible array of choices, but in reality, they don't.. Mostly Chinese food, not much of it looks or smells appetizing. Definitely not a vegetarian friendly restaurant, with your only non-meat or seafood options being french fries, rice, a very small "salad" bar, and deserts. Pretty much all of the food was nothing to write home about, and for the most part, a waste of money. I would have much rather spent the $12 for dinner at a restaurant with fixed portions of something that actually tasted good.
Great deal for lunch. Food selection is huge! The quality is low, but I guess that is to be expected if you are paying $8. You can always pick the healthier/non-fried items. With so much selection, at least some of them will taste pretty good. The fried rice ball with sweet filling is my favorite.
Let's just say, I am not going to this restaurant anymore.. The building looks nice, but everything else is subpar. Bunch of oily fried foods and the staff was even watching people get shrimp (I thought it was a buffet, why watch)... maybe I hit the wrong time but, after I ate here, my whole family got food poisioning.. hit that toilet like there was no tomorrow. horrible... next time I go to a buffet, it will be in Reno or Vegas
a lot of choices but just not GREAT food. most of the dishes i tried were a bit too salty for my liking (and i love a lot of flavor!) the sushi & desert selection is ready for expansion if you ask me!
i'm giving it 2 stars because i did enjoy the deep fried mushrooms LOL & some eggplant dish i tried. you can't beat how dirt cheap it is for the massive amounts of food you can consume should you choose to ($9 at lunch w/tax & tip & a drink!). if you decide to give it try go when they first begin serving lunch or dinner so you get the freshest dishes. buffets just aren't for everyone and this place wasn't for me.
I went here for my friend's graduation and I have to say this one blows the Crazy Buffet in San Jose out of the water. First of all for LUNCH, they had crab legs, which i never usually see for a lunch, and they had short ribs!! I love crab and short ribs!! What a great combination. I was so stuffed after eating! I've never felt so full from a buffet! I'd drive here compared to any of the buffets in my area.
The food here is very greasy...
The waiter/waitress is in a hurry to clear out the table for the next patrons.
The food is just bland and nasty. I'm not a big fan of buffets to begin with, but I've been here a few different times and I always wonder why I didn't talk my coworkers out of it. Even the desserts are bland and gross.
this is a pretty good deal for a buffet. $7/lunch, i think $12 for dinner + tax/tip. they have standard chinese steam table dishes, plus dungess crab and king crab, oysters cooked and raw, cooked to order noodles, bbq/grill meats, and fresh sushi rolls. i went for lunch once, but i think there are more goodies for dinner, like sashimi. that's the stuff i load up on. the dining room near the food is decent. the back room, for large groups, is kinda dirty. pass on the desserts.
i am giving this place 2 stars because my boyfriend loves it, and he always tries to drag me here. i think men would like the food better then women. the service is good, but the food not so much, it's been sitting out a little to long for me, and i am a vegetarian and there non meat selection sucks, i wish they had a good salad bar, and not just lettuce. please buffet owners cater more towards non mean selections!!!
