I am updating my reviews mainly because the owner is kind enough to apologize about the inconvenience that caused us in the past months (I was upset because they were not accepting credit card for quite a long time). I was pretty impressed since not that many owners give apologies to their customers.

Anyway, I have to say Crawdaddy is still my favorite restaurant when it comes to crawfish; believe me, I have dined in every single crawfish restaurants in the Bay-Area/Sacramento areas. A lot of people compare Crawdaddy to Boiling Crab; yes, I admit that Boiling Crab's ShiBang Sauce has lots of flavor, but to me, it's way too much stuffs mixed together. I always get a few pimples right after I have dined at Boiling Crab.

The best thing is, I can always trust on the freshness of the crawfish; I have never found any frozen crawdad in their bags; not to mention their shrimps are super yummy as well.

Why not 5 stars? Umm... I do think that their customer service can be improved a little bit more.

came here for dinner on a friday night with a big group. come early peeps or else you will have to wait to be seated! we came at 6:30 and i thought that was a pretty good time since it was still somewhat empty. it got busier around 7pm and by the time we left there was a looooooong line.

i was hesitant to come here at first because of my previous experience but it was going to be a free dinner, so WHY NOT? =)

i shared the hot 1 lb shrimp and the crab, also hot (the smallest crab they had that night was 2.25lb. $14 for 1lb). we also had gumbo (WHY NOT?) and cajun fries. but all together our group had 8 lb shrimps, 1 order of the crab, 3 sweet potato fries, 2 cajun fries, 2 chicken strips, some corns and gumbo.

highlights: SHRIMP AND CRAB! so good!! make sure you get it in hot because your mouth will burn until they are numb but that's why it's hecka delicious. they give pepper and lime so you can dip your shrimpies in there so it's not as hot. love it! The cajun and the sweet potato fries were so-so. i didn't try any of the chicken strips but i'm assuming it's also average. the gumbo was gross (good thing i didn't pay haha) really, folks, the crab was DELICIOUS!!!!!!! very fresh and the meat was huge and soft. It was so good. mm mm mmm! The shrimps was pretty big in size too! love sucking the head haha do not get the crawfish as there are no meat in that.

service was pretty good. we accidentally ordered another crab when we wanted shrimp and the girl was nice enough to cancel it, even though our order came out already.

*IMPORTANT* one thing that everyone needs to be on the look out for is YOUR BILL. again, they over charged us. 2 extra lbs of shrimps got in there and even though our waiter cancelled our crab order, she didn't take it off the bill. so be careful folks! make sure you check your bill. happened twice to me!

all in all, i had a great time. it was pretty delicious. but mainly because i didn't have to pay haha or else i would be $200+ poorer.

OMG - soooooooo good. Not the same as crawfish from the south, these are a bit different, but every bit as good.  they're cooked in bag with yummy buttery spicy sauce. drool. i like spicy food, but found even the medium pretty effing hot. i go mild always.  say what you will; i like heat, don't like to be tortured. So sad it's all the way in san jose when i'm all the way down in santa cruz. i would love to see a capitola location on the esplanade: perfect place for crawfish.

The little waitress was so cute - when i told her my hubs & i missed crawfish since moving from texas, she was utterly confused.  it's owned by a vietnamese family and the daughter was unaware that crawfish were not solely a vietnamese treat.  such a funny conversation.  love it here.  go. be happy. treat your taste buds.

I 'm not a huge fan of crawfish. But my GF love this place because they always have the freshest crawfish In SAN JOSE (Showing my love). I am no expert, but when you open the head and you see the yellow fat dripping - that is when you know is FRESH!!.

Down to the rating. I don't give 5 stars unless you reach to the point where you can cook as good as the Chef at Gary Danko or French Laundry. To earn 4 stars - you must be spectacular and memorable. So by me giving 3 stars - you are pretty good. HOWEVER!!! - This joint recently changes their payment policy. - NO Credit Card. WTF!!

You usually can't walk out this place without spending over $70, so is hard to have a lot cash sitting around, and the place is in South San Jose; caring cash is just DANGEROUS!!!

The food is great here - you will leave all butter up and smelling like you swam in a pool of hot garlic butter - and your GF will be dieing to give you a big fat french kiss .  Their shrimps are pretty good too - never over cook. and their sweet potatoes fries are pretty amazing - you won't notice a single drop of oil in every bite; don't know how they cook'em but they are mighty tasty.

The service at this place are pretty good at times. Just may need to halla if you need refills.

So BOSS, don't make me drive across town to BofA to get  cash and take the risk of being mugged at the ATM.  It's very inconvenient!!! - I may have to go to Boiling Crab! You Dig!

    Love, love, love Crawdaddys!

My faaaaavorite place in SJ to get cajun style shrimp.
I'm not big on eating crawdaddys myself, but I am a big shrimp fan.

I've had Boiling Crab and Crawdaddys, and I'll pick Crawdaddys all the time.

When they give you a pound of shrimp, it feels like much more than a pound. You get so much shrimp, you can barley finish the whole pound. I also love the way they season their shrimp. I always get 'Mild w/a Kick' because there sauce is waaaaay spicier than you think. Mild with a kick can already kick my butt, and I loove spicy stuff.

Service is always great, and I also love that the place doesn't get suuper busy like their rival. But don't get me wrong, go here on a weekend for dinner or on a game night, and there is a little wait.

I usually like to order togo here, and they always get my order done and ready in about 10 minutes. And they give you everything that you need to eat at home without getting your kitchen table dirty. You can even ask for a piece of butcher paper to lay on your table for easy clean up! :)

    Tip:
CASH only here, so don't forget to hit up the ATM before hand.

I consider this place just as good as Boiling Crab, but with better and friendly service.

The gentleman that owns the place will come up and talk to you to see how the food is. He will tell you stories about how he could have franchised the place and how he has frequent offers to sell. He is very kind and nice.

There are the familiar seafood items on the menu. Oysters, crawfish, crab, shrimp, etc. Their menu is a little bit smaller than boiling crab, but only when it comes to flavors you can choose to have the food cooked in. To me that's not a big deal since it all starts tasting the same after a while.

I love the cajun fries and the shrimp. I'm always happy with what I order and satisfied when I walk out.

i always get 1 lb of shrimp with the cajun sauce and a side of fried catfish with fries. it's delicious! the catfish is probably frozen but it tastes really fresh and the salt and pepper definitely brings out the flavor. it is super crispy and yummy!

great crawfish restaurant, sauce is more watery but i like it. Crawfish is always fresh never frozen, delicious worth all the work for that little piece of meat. their gumbo is really good too! i wish the king crab legs was in their sauce, its just steamed and they give you butter.

quick tip: they have deals sometimes (all the same sauce)

I ate here last night around 5:30pm, no line, no wait, they seated us (three guys) right away. Crawdaddy serves with paperplates, plastic forks, and lime/salt/pepper for dipping. We each had a full crab w/ corn and sausage, and then split a 1lbs. shrimp and 1lbs. crawfish bag. The nice thing about medium size shrimp and crawfish here is you are doing work to get the shell off for a decent size bite. i would have liked little metal forks to pull the crab neat out (they only had plastic forks), bt not a huge deal.

There are flat screens on the wall and fish tanks for decoration. It was easy to find parking here and would definitely come back again.

Eh.. Not impressed. But this place is totally clean and the decor is not trashy. Probably why i gave them 2 stars.

Their quality of craw fish isnt great either. I'm sorry, im all about supporting local restaurant owners, but something needs to change.

I tried their crawfish, shrimp, crabs, and gumbo. I was definitely not satisfied. Maybe i caught them on a bad night?

Lets just say, if i did hit their bad night, their quality and consistency needs to be improved.

Boiling crab was a hot ass mess so we figured crawdaddy with it's 25 minute wait was worth a try and it certainly wasn't bad. We just had big bags of shrimp which were supposed to be hot but were really medium if anything along with some decent fried catfish.

The funniest thing about this place is they blast techno, house, and pop mashups through the speakers which is totally the weirdest thing to just pig out on shellfish to. The decor is also like a weird little new orleans diarama so the whole thing just ends up being pretty surreal.

First Impression: Having this place be in the "ghetto" side of SJ, I was really iffy only because it's surroundings. But then I realized it's those kind of places that turn out to be a big bang. The first time trying this place I thought 'it's my first time eating seafood plain without any rice (because I'm Filipino and we tend to eat EVERYTHING with rice) and it was out of my comfort zone. Having trying it opened my taste buds in a whole different realm and fell in love!! I noticed that the workers seemed to change overtime, because the first time here was this waiter who thought she really was the "shit" just because she worked here?! Like come on, no offense but there's nothing to really brag working at a restaurant unless it's a 5 star place... Anyways, I ate here last week and the workers were really tentative to your needs and friendly!! I was impressed, talk about an upgrade!

Last Impression: I wouldn't consider myself a regular just yet but when I am craving for some seafood, I go straight here. I do have a ish that I do want to point out, the last time I was here they said they ran out of "crawfish"?! I was like 'ahem, like really, are you serious?!? Like what's this place called again??' but that didn't stop me because their flavors are on point and I wouldn't want to drive all the way to Capitol to Boiling Crab and have my name on the waiting list for 5 hours!! All in all this place is YUMMM!!

Check out my photos I posted!

I'd give them one star based on the food alone, but I thought the owner was pretty G, so I decided to give him an extra star for that.

I came here on Wednesday night because both of the Boiling Crabs had a 2.5 hour wait. I give Crawdaddy a ring and ask them how long the wait is. The person on the phone tells me 20 minutes. Okay. We drive over there, put our names on the list and I asked again how long the wait is. Again I was told 20 minutes. We literally waited at least an hour for seating. I understand that you cannot control how long people stay at their tables, but I would think you would be honest as to how long the wait really is or give me a better estimate. Everyone in there kept complaining about how long the wait was because they were given poor estimates of the wait time.

By now, I'm starving and when I'm starving, everything tastes better than it really is. Well, why was my crawfish and shrimp bland? Like seriously, bland as hell. Like another reviewer wrote, the shrimp came out super fast... so I'm guessing they just have the sauce boiling and they quickly throw in the cooked shrimp and put it in a bag? The garlic is even super raw. Ahhhhh, I was SO disappointed.

The gumbo, eh. I've definitely tasted better.

The fries were the best part of our meal. I mean, they're fries so it's nothing really to rave about.

I would never come here again. I'm sorry. I really wanted to love this place because I love supporting small local businesses, but the crawfish was just horrible. For those who want to support small local crawfish businesses, I would recommend Rockin' Crawfish in Oakland. Way better tasting.

On a tuesday night during xmas break when both boiling crabs had over 1.5 hour wait times, our group of four was able to be seated immediately at seven fifteen at CD.

Wait staff very young but friendly.  Moments after ordering, food arrived!  Good start, but goes down hill from there...

Crawdads were microscopic. Didnt know it was legal to buy and sell that size.  Must have purchased discounted variety, so small that you needed right angle forceps to extract what little tail meat existed.

Corn was still frozen, and the kernels were beat to hell.

    Catfish batter too salty.

    Sweet potato fries soggy.

When the check came, I axed for change to appropriately apportion the tip.  The owner gave me a look like,"you cheapass!"

$82 for two kids two adults.

    Will probably not return.

I really wish I could like Crawdaddy's but even if the wait is 2 hours for Boiling Crab, I'm not budging.

After having the Shabang from BC, Crawdaddy's garlic sauce does not compare the slightest bit! It was too bland for my liking.

The last time I came here, the owner's dad was videotaping customers eating! Seriously?! I have no words.

Their sauce for the craw fish and shrimp tasted kind of diluted and bland compared to Boiling Crab. The craw fish was so tiny!! I guess it's not their season? There were lots of garlic inside the bag, which is yummy! The workers are pretty friendly. I thought it was kind of weird that they used the phone to take the menu because it looks kind of unprofessional.

Overall, it was alright. I don't think I would go here again.

The family and I love coming here. This was the first crawfish restaurant I visited at the beginning of the craze here in the South Bay. I've always loved this place, but the gf always wanted to go to Boiling Crab. Like me, her parents weren't too keen at waiting an hour to sit down and have a somewhat decent meal there. So, as an alternative she suggested Crawdaddy.

We came here and the gf was all praises of this place. So were her parents.

    In comparison:
    - Seafood, less greasy...thankfully, no more hives...
    - Seafood is tender and juicy
    - Lightly seasoned, in my opinion, which doesn't mask the true flavor of the seafood.
    - Service is friendly and attentive
    - Less chaotic
    - Usually no line
    - Fast service
    - Great fried food, not greasy at all

All in all, this is my preferred crawfish joint in the South Bay.

Came here to grab some cajun to go on the way home from The Happy Hollow Park and zoo across the street on Senter road. Parking is so tight that they have to have someone stand out with a folded sign to let people know its Crawdaddy parking only. The asian restaurants celebrating Chinese new year with dragons and walmart doesnt help either. The place is clean, not to big not too small, all the tables except a few were empty. It wasnt really dinner time or lunch time though. I ordered the lb of fire shrimp with a corn and sausage mini put into the hot sauce. The fire sauce is so hot my tongue was burning so I needed chocolate candy and cold milk. Shrimps still have head and beedy old eyes and antennas on, you have to rip them off, I didnt mind. Eating is messy so dont wear your favorite team jersey or white t shirt, wear a bide or dinner napkin to save yourself. The shrimp was awesome, tender falovrful, the butter and garlic are amazing, I can wait to try more stuff like oysters crab and crawdads. I always have a craving for cajun, wish there was more spots in Fremont, there is Rays in newark only... The people taking orders polite and helpful and pretty I may add. That defintely helps!=) Takeout menu and business cards are helpful. Be ready for traffic and tight parking lots too.

Delish! It's pretty cheap if you're buying for 2 or more people. Only spent 20 bucks here on a pound of crawfish, cajun fries, and butterfly shrimp! My boyfriend never had crawfish before, but when I took him here he really liked it. I would say this is actually 2.5 but since this isn't possible, I'll round up. I heard about this place from a couple of friends and gave it a tried with a friend.

Comparable to Boiling Crab? NO EFFING WAY. How? It's simply not that great. Went there once, never again. Why? For that amount of money, I rather just wait a while longer and eat at boiling crab. The atmosphere isn't that great either. Service was not good. I had the waved down the waitress several time and it would take them forever to get what I needed. Oh, speaking of the waitresses, I felt like they hired underage girls that likes to wear clothes that are a little too tight. Made me feel like I was in a tamer vietnamese coffee house.

Coming back? NAHHHHH. I suggest you go to boiling crab and spend a little more time waiting. It's worth it.

    - Ordered 3lbs togo and there was no salt/pepper along with lemons. Idk if i'm suppose to remind them but i thought they actually came along with the order.

    - The garlic is a bit tooo nasty for me here. I love garlic but it seems as if they soaked it in the sauce for a bit tooo long where it just becomes disgusting to eat. I really prefer just biting it in a bite size :X

    - Their fries are a bit on the thicker side.. no cajun seasoning at all.. i reccomend dipping it with ketchup for flavor LOL

    - Their crawfish sauce is alllll the way on the bottom, so you'd have to scoop it with a cup to get more sauce!!

    One word = SALTY!!!

Why the hell was everything so damn salty (was it just the 1 night I went?)

    What did we order:

Boiled Crawfish - Not a huge fan of crawfish.  There's nothing wrong with the taste, I just think it's a lot of work for little reward.

King Crab Legs - these were pretty damn good (I LOVE CRAB!) but again, definitely on the salty side.

Deep Fried Catfish - these were some of the best fried catfish I've ever had but again, it was a little too salty.

Raw Oysters - same as any other.  When they served them they weren't very cold so I had to have them sit on the ice for a while.

Sweet Potato Fries - I gotta admit, some of the best sweet potato fries ever!!!

Service was good and we didn't have to wait very long.  I definitely would give Crawdaddy another shot in hopes of less salty food.

If you're like me and don't really care for crawfish, burden not your heart because Crawdaddy's other specialty is SHRIMP and boy do they do it well.  You'll just have to wait for it.

    Before I ate:
Anyone who has ever been to Crawdaddy before is accustomed to waiting for tables and unless you're one of the lucky few who beat the dinner time rush, you'll probably be waiting an average of 30-45 min. (hint: it's worth it).  Space is a bit tight so claustrophobes might want to stay away.  All the waitresses are pretty cute. Just saying-- you wanted observations, yes?  The menu includes boiled Crawfish and boiled Shrimp which you can order different levels of spiciness: Mild (wimp), Medium, Hot, and Fire (beware).  The menu also includes Crawdaddy Shrimp, sweet potato fries, cajun fries, Chicken Tenders (I will lose respect for you if you order this).

    What I ordered:
When you order boiled Crawfish or Shrimp you must order by the pound so my table ordered 2lbs of Shrimp at Medium heat and 1 lbs. of Shrimp at Mild heat as a precaution.  We also ordered Crawdaddy Shrimp and Sweet Potato Fries.

    After I ate:
I love everything I ate so I'll start with the best.  The Crawdaddy Shrimp...Oh My God [ cue in: Chandler Bing's voice].  Crawdaddy Shrimp is deep, deep fried Shrimp that you could and should eat from the head to the tail-- just be careful because the head could be a little pokey.  It's hard to describe how much I love eating this shrimp.  It's seasoned just right and has an incredibly satisfying crunch.

The boiled shrimp is served in a bath of a spicy, garlicky, and buttery sauce in a plastic bag.  The shrimp comes complete with its shell so it requires a tiny bit of work to eat but I promise you its worth it.  Further, when you order your Spicy-ness, Medium is pretty spicy so if you can't handle spice you should order the Mild version.  However, this presents a dilemma because our Mild Shrimp was pretty dull and I ended up dipping it in the Medium sauce.

Finally, the sweet potato fries.  They weren't overwhelming great and even slightly soggy.  The sweetness of this dish is an excellent contrast to the spicy, savory Shrimp dishes.  I'd still order them in the future.

Other impressions: Whew. Don't plan to go out clubbing after eating at Craw Daddy.  You'll smell like garlic for the next 12-24 hrs.  And you could try in vain to scrub like hell and douse your hands in handsantizer ever 15 minutes, but you'll fail.  Wash the necessary amount and be on your way.

Overall: "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" I come here often and have not yet been disappointed.  Enjoy!

The wait at Crawdaddy is way better than Boiling Crab and I think I will return for that reason.
Sweet potato fries are really good. Crabs are excellent, also really like the shrimp. I don't really know how to eat craw fish and I thought they were too small to eat anyway.
In general, this place has really good value and service. Will definitely go back again.

My friend and I had their crawfish in Fire which is the highest spice level . The name says it all . The crawfish was spicy but it was a different kind of spicy compared to other places . The spicy here is fire spicy ... I guess they weren't kidding about the name of the spice level after all . My lips were burning from the spiciness after eating the crawfish . Their crawfish is pretty fresh ... I just wish their sauce was a little more flavorful . Their oysters were really good ... they were really fresh smooth . I don't know what else there was about the oysters , but I really enjoyed them . Their cajun fries are okay ... it's just some regular fries with some seasoning sprinkled on top . I didn't expect much from their gumbo but it was actually really good . I really liked the soup base of the gumbo ... it was very flavorful and had an adequate amount of spicy-ness to it . I was really disappointed that they didn't have clams on their menu . I thought it was kind of nice how the staff took our orders with their Iphones instead of with pen and paper ... it's more efficient and environmentally friendly . My favorite place to go for crawfish is still Craw Station in San Francisco . Craw Station's sauce has more of a kick to it .

Personally, I like this place better than Boiling Crab. BC lines are too outrageous, while the longest wait at Crawdaddys was only five minutes.

Server is good, food is good (personally i like the fried catfish a lot). My only gripe is that the sauce is a bit too hot for me.

Another reason why this place is better than BC, is that BC charges for water! Even if it's something cheap like 25 cents, water (or the water cup they supposedly say is the reason of the charge) is dumb.

I really like this place a lot.  Like most people, I came here after a terribly long line at Boiling Crab and to my surprise, me and my girlfriend like this  place even more.  Little to no wait times and incredible food, we get the hottest sauce and man oh man is it hot (which I love).

Service is great, only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is the order in which the food comes out.  Maybe I am just too used to the way BC does it but if all the food came out at or around the same time, I'd like it more but at least it cuts down on the wait time.  Overall great though, definitely worth a try..however I'm becoming a regular lol.

I don't care for crawfish so going here never crossed my mind. However, my sister recommended this place and said they have really good shrimp so we decided to give it a try.

THE SHRIMP IS DELICIOUS. Butter....garlic...goodness. *SLURP SLURP* Really, suck the head, that's the best part. (Get your mind out of the gutter)

The fries were good too, well seasoned, and can easily fill you up if you're still hungry after all the seafood :)

When I went here It was so crowed and I felt like everyone was staring at me and I didn't even have my mouth full yet. The food is really good and the restaurant is nice but it would be smart to call your order in or take your food to go. The parking is shared with other businesses so parking may be tight but overall the food makes up for the inconveniences. I like the fries, catfish, and the garlic gumbo shrimp but unless you order hot hot shrimp they all taste the same to me.

Boiling Crab may have an advantage in decor and ambiance, but they lack beyond forgiveness in consistency and quality control in the size of crawfish. I mean, really?? A crawfish the size of a knuckle? Just dead weight!! Just sayin'.. lol.

Crawdaddy earns a well deserve 5 star. The consistency in flavor, sauce and crawfish size is on point. Service is great. I always leave satisfied. Their fried catfish is fried HUGE goodness. Comes in big long sticks. Like catfish machetes. You can have a sword fight with these things. Lol. Garlic butter shrimps are bomb too though. 1 lbs is more than enough for 2.

I love that at Crawdaddy you can get the burning heat from the spicy level but can still taste the big fireworks of the cajun spices. Beer, shrimp and crawdads. How much better does it get??

This place is awesome.  Really enjoyed everything from the food to the service.  The waiter there showed us the ropes to make are dinning experience perfect.  I will be back often.  The only reason I can't get it a 5 star is because it's a little pricy. Also my husband doesn't really get full.
