this place isn't as good as crawdaddy in San jose, but the customer service is great! Today my aunt and cousins ordered 1lb of mild boiled shrimp and let me tell you it had no flavor!  We wanted to try the medium hot boiled shrimp so we ordered 2 lbs of that and again... No flavor well just a tad bit spicy then the mild , but still it wasn't all that great.

My cousins ordered the cod fish and fries.. Omg let me tell you the fries tasted like they just came out of the damn freezer and the Cod had no damn flavor try to imagine yourself drinking corn oil and fried bread crumbs! GROSS! I don't recommend this place at all! Reason why I gave it 2 stars is... They serve alcohol and they have great customer service!  So good luck trying this place!

In comparison to the other 2 crawfish restaurants I've dined in San Jose; I'd say that Crawdaddy King is my favorite.

The ambiance is cute, they have polaroids of customers eating cf on their walls, and the décor is very fitting for a crawfish restaurant- they also bump the music.

Let's talk about sauce; their sauce is bomb.. AND they have another variation; called the TWIST or something of that sort. Some spots make their sauce too spicy; to the point where blood rushes to your eyes, nose and mouth / your face turns pink. When I eat at Crawdaddy King, I don't need to worry about my make-up.. It's spicy, but it's a manageable spice that you can eat. My friends complained when we ate at the other spots, they were about to throw out their cf because it was inedible!

CK does a good job at cleaning their crawfish! When we went to the spots in San Jose, we tasted dirt, we saw dirt.. and that was just NASTY! I know they are called mud-bugs, but don't take it literally people.

Corn... If I pay $.50 I want a good hunk of corn, not a dinky end piece.. Thanks for always hookin it up Crawdaddy King.

Trust- it'll turn into a habit.

Came here for some crawfish and crawfish is what we got!

I think we ordered 6-8 lbs between four guys. We tried the beyond fire and the Cajun with garlic butter. I would have to say the beyond fire was pretty good. My tongue was on FIYYAAAHHHHHHH!!! We also ordered a couple baskets of fries which complimented the spiciness quite well. These things had some super juice cause when I cracked open one it straight SKEETED on me ... but luckily they give you an awesome bib so my shirt was alright. I think I got a little too excited more than halfway through because while I was cracking another one open it slipped out of my hand and was in midair for a split second. Again, the bib saved me with its super cool pocket/pouch on the bottom of the bib. The crawfish really did land in there! It was so awesome! We topped off our meal with coconut ice cream which was BIZZOMB! Highly recommend that to finish your meal to cool off that hot tongue.

Really fun experience and I would encourage large groups to come here for a good time.

This place use to be one of my favorite places to get Crawfish.  But now its oneof my least favorites.  To be successful in the restaurant business the food has to be consistent.  There has to be a new cook back there because it is so not the same!   Its so unfortunate that the flavoring got lost in the shuffle because there is nothing cajun about this place.  I give it about 6 more months before it closes down.  I noticed everybody that takes over this place doesn't stay in business for long!

For those of you who are clearly uneducated (j/k), and don't know what crawfish look like, your initial reaction will most likely be, "Aww cute, they look like baby lobsters! "  Cause yes they really do, and yes they are pretty darn cute.  But besides aesthetics, and besides the novelty of eating with your hands with bibs tied around your neck, I personally don't enjoy eating crawfish as much as most people do.  Why, you ask?  Because it's too much work for such little of a reward.

I don't know about you, but I don't think I should have to work for my food.  That's probably why I don't really enjoy eating crab or lobster, unless someone else is nice enough and will crack the shells to get the meat out for me.

I think I'm going to have to agree with Justin G. on this one, and recommend you order the shrimp along with maybe a pound or two of crawfish.  I'm not even going to lie, I probably ate 5-6 shrimp along with half a pound of crawfish, but they were really just that good.  I also recommend that you order all the seafood to be seasoned to Medium.  My cousin who can't handle much spice ordered Mild, and it was rather bland.

As far as service goes, it was great and the waitresses were all attentive and courteous.  We came on a busy Saturday night and the kitchen seemed to be somewhat backed up.  However, the waitresses repeatedly came by to let us know our food was coming right up.  I really appreciate that fact because I hate it when it feels like they've forgotten about you.

Oh, and one more thing.  Since you never really feel too full after eating seafood, there's always room for dessert at Crawdad King.  I suggest the fried banana, it was just sweet enough to hit the spot.  Yea you know, your yummy food spot.

Minus 1 Star for ruining my manicure while trying to crack open crawdad shells.  But I have to admit, it was kind of worth it :)

Great place to have a drink and to just hang out.  If you don't know how to crack open a crawdad, they will demonstrate it for you!  .....that was hot.  uhhmm....honey if you are reading this....I meant the crawdads were hot.  $2.50 for domestic beer, $3.00 for imported.  Personally, I hate cracking open seafood and getting all messy.  We had a huge bag of crawdads and a clam platter which we ate with our hands and all we were given were 6 napkins....lol.  It's all good, food was good but I ordered something a bit too spicey for my taste.  I'd go back for more.

Oh my Gawd, this place Rox. We ordered about 5-lbs (about $54)  of Crawfish to go. We asked for extra Garlic, and we got extra Garlic times a Billion! We spent nearly a full hour just cracking those suckers up and nibbling/eating away. They were so good, so succulent and sweet. This place is worth it.

Went there with my fiance's family and got 4 pounds of crawdads. We did half of the medium spicy and then tried some new spiced mixture they were offering.

The food was not bad, the service was mediocre. It seems like a bunch of kids/young adults working there trying to figure out what's going on.  In their defense though., I think our waitress must have been new.  She didn't even know the beers we were ordering she kept asking us over and over the beer orders.

Finally, after her asking us several times what fat tire was, we just spelled it out for her.  There weren't a lot of beers on the menus.  There were only a handful of domestics and a handful of imported.  Hopefully after a few days, she'll learn the menu.

It was funny too, we ordered an additional 2 pounds and then she cleared our table while we were waiting.  Actually, a young girl who seemed like possibly an owner or manager came over to clear our table, but we told her we ordered another 2 pounds so she said oh okay and cleaned up a little but left our plates.

A few minutes later our waitress came over and started clearing all our plates and stuff.

We thought maybe they were just going to give us new plates, etc, but just in case we told her, "We ordered 2 more pounds."  She looked at us and said, "Oh really? I'll just bring you guys new plates then" since she already had all our stuff piled in stacks.

My fiance and I giggled to each other because she was the one who took our order of the additional 2 pounds and when we told her we ordered 2 more pounds of crawdads it was like a surprise to her.

It would be one thing if it was really busy and there were a lot of tables, but there were only us and another table in there.  But we're generally always nice.  I waited tables before and I know it sucks sometimes, especially when you're new.

Overall, I wasn't super impressed by this place.  They have some beer specials for happy hour. I think the beers are only $1.50, which could be potentially pretty cool.

I think too if you were there with a bunch of  friends just kicking it and not really caring about the food, the service or whatever, but just looking for somewhere to hang out, it seems like an cool place. They have a little bar with a tv.  It looks like there were a few regular customers just chilling there and talking to the girls working.

Otherwise, as far as the service and the overall atmosphere of this place, it's mediocre.  Overall, I'd go back but only for their 1.50 beer happy hour.

Are they really the King?

I don't think so.  The crawdad were BIG but lacks flavoring.  They have two types of broth, original and Cajun twist.  Original is the garlic butter while Cajun twist has a little sour taste to it.  I prefer the original.

I say it lacks flavoring because they don't give you enough broth!  I hate sucking on the crawdad when it's dry.  That takes the fun and flavoring away.  The medium spice was not as spicy as other places "medium".

Price for crawdad was your typical price of about 10 per lb.  The shrimp was tasty but for some reason they served it on a plate and the 1lb i ordered didn't look 1 lb.

Overall, 3 stars for decent food and better than average wait staff.

After being sucked into "Boiling Crab" now SJ Crawdads and thinking that all crawfish joints were that way, Crawdad King really opened my eyes that there is better.

I was glad to see that they had a vast variety of seafood, southern food and many regulars such as fries and all at a reasonable price. I am a big fan of the jambalaya so my only knock on Crawdad King was that for $5 they could have given more but none the less they had it, so i was ready to pay for the premium. Speaking of premium, their beer selection and prices were great. They charged $2 for domestic and $3 for imported. They also served MGD which was great because it truly is the best of the cheap beers. Oh and they serve other drinks like soju etc...

Ok on to the food, the crawdads were good but they could have used more sauce, although i'm more of a shrimp fan and like most places I order with caution, so I ordered mild but it really wasnt too tasty. After having ordered it I wished i ordered hot, but I guess that'll be for next time. I'm still amazed of the food selection but was also glad to see some sports program on, they had a bulls vs pistons game yesterday but I'm hoping that they stay true to their home team that when the warriors are playing thats the only thing they'll show.

The restaurant itself was very clean and the small bar was kinda cool for having a quick meal with a buddy. The restroom was out of soap but i think they might have forgotten to refill the dispenser, so i snuck in the womens and stole some of theirs. Our server was nice and very helpful, she was also informative about their competitors. I would definitely reccomend this to everyone that enjoys seafood.

"Just suck on everything and eat as much as you can" was the advice of one of the waitresses.  Sure thing since I agreed to the special (i don't know if it was just the night or all the time), which was buy 4lbs and get the 5th for free.  I had just flew in earlier and i chose this place as dinner thanks for a friend to pick me up from SJC.  From the first statement, you can deduce that I don't really eat crawdads.

It was a cold night, and I thought I was wuss because I was the only one wearing a jacket in the restaurant and even petite girls where eating in their short sleeves.  After we start digging into our 5lbs of medium spicy crawdads with corn, I soon realize that the spices build up and eating these suckers (get it? we had to suck on them) is a bit of a job so everybody wasn't cold due to the effort they were exerting to eat the crawdads and the spices from the food.  I wasn't a wuss, I just hadn't started eating yet.

5lbs was too much for 2 people, not so much full, just too tiring to eat it all.  But we both had more than our fair share, and we still had over a pound left over, maybe 2.  I dunno.. there was still a lot.  I recommend getting a couple of orders of corn or something else, as well, cause it's a good  break from sucking and peeling shells.  But it all tasted good, and even brought the left overs to my parents who enjoyed them as well.

They had a tv playing sports, and I can totally see this place as a good time eating, drinking, and watching sports.  Only thing is that they were playing boy band music for a while.. but they seemed nice enough that if you ask very nicely, they might put on the sound of the game instead.

The service here is definitely positive. Our waitresses were attentive, friendly, and informative. However, I found their crawdads to be a little on the small side. They were also out of cola and oysters... that was a little disappointing since I LOVE my crawdads with cola. Prices were good, $9.99/lb and we went during happy hr, so $2/imported beer.

3stars because I bought 2lbs to-go for my bf... to our disappointment, the portions seemed to be on the shady side. My bf complained that it was barely 1.5lbs.

The best part about after a night of eating crawfish is smelling it on your fingers for the next day and drooling at the thought of your visit. We gradually worked up to the Spicy crawfish but didn't get a chance to try their spiciest (Spicy Beyond Fire). The seasoning is hella bomb, and I love their fries.

The waitress and service were both fantastic. My glass of water practically refilled itself magically every time I took a sip (expect to drink a lot of water here). This place would definitely be a great place to watch a game while having beers and great food with your buddies.

I'm definitely going back soon to try all the other seafood they have.

EDIT:  Just tried their dessert. Wow. Rich fluffy coconut ice cream on fried bananas. Need I say more?

Crawfish = A+ fresh, none dead and the spices were good ( I asked about where they get their crawfish and they said they order them direct from Louisiana, and if not, from Sacramento. If they don't have fresh live crawfish from either place, they just close up shop and don't serve crawfish at all - NIce)

Shrimp = A  - Tastey, none mushy, but served on a plate - huh?

Service= Awesome+

It was kind of dead when we came in, only two tables being occupied including ours so the ladies there were very nice and attentive.  We had a great time eating our messy food, and they came by to fill up our water but otherwise left us alone to enjoy.  We also ordered the coleslaw which was nice and crisp as well as the Cajun fries which were yummy and hot.

We had a 18month old with us so when she was done with her food, mainly ketchup and fries, she was getting fussy so one of the waitress we had came over and said she can play with the baby until we were done.  Definate plus for us and them because they earned a nice tip.  We'll be coming back!

Oh forgot, we also had the PEI (prince elbert Isand) mussels and corn  too and they were good!

Edited note:  I forgot to mention they didn't make us were those stupid bibs which was cool, but I did get crawdad juices on my tshirt so be forewarned! :)

They were so nice to keep the shop open even after closing hours. Our waitress was really nice to chat to. She provided some information about their food items that helped with our order.  We ordered a pound of the garlic, lime seasoning and 2lbs of the original Louisiana seasoning, all HOT. I prefer the original but it was much more spicy to the point of red, swollen lips. Crawfish are so addicting I could easily eat 2 lbs to myself.

I have to disagree with people here, just because you don't like crawfish doesn't mean the restaurant is bad. I ate at a lot of places in the South, and this place is one of the most authentic you can get in terms of Cajun cooking.

OMG! When they say HOT, they mean FLAMIN Hot!!! My lips were burning, eyes.. tearing, and my nose was running (gross.. I know). I've eaten a lot of crawfish in the past, and have occasionally cook them at home. This place REALLY knows their SPICE! And the best part of it all, Is how the spice did not interfere with their flavoring. CRAWDAD KING IS FLAMIN HOT!!

btw.. for you folks out their that can't stand the heat.. just ask for mild/medium or something.. haha..weak!!

Really cute joint and a great place to kick it on sports night.

I found this place while I was driving home from work and since i've been addicted to seafood boil ever since i've had it in texas i couldn't pass it up.

With all the seafood/crab boil places i've tried, texas is still #1 in flavor with authentic cajun/creole seasoning; LA is different...served with totally diffferent sauces; my #3 would be this place.  The sauce that they cook the crawdad in could be a lil bit thicker.  They totally need more condiments like honey mustard, bbq sauce, and hot sauce.

Overall, i would come back again.  The prices are reasonable, service is really nice, and atmosphere is friendly

first heard of this place through my cousin because one of the owners was my cousin's relative.

I gotta say, it come pretty close to what i expected.

The service is great every time i'm there. The waitress would pratically put on the apron for you even though I find that a little awkward.

when in season, the crawfish was huge and they have improved their seasoning over time. I really enjoy their cajun fries too.

although some times it tend to get a little rowdy and loud there because they serve alcohol and you can assume what alcohol may do to some people or what some people do with the excuse of having alcohol.

UPDATE: I've been eating up a lot of crawdads the last couple of years, finding spot after spot. Crawdad King is a solid place if you love crawfish, but I've found a place that I like closer to home, so I've been frequenting it. I think the only changes I'd make to Crawdad King is extra broth (to pour out and then dip into on the side)... oh and fresh whole garlic cloves... that's about it. All in all, solid place. :)

Most of the places serving up crawdads cajun style are Asian run. It doesn't mean they aren't good, it just means they are just a little different than what you'd get in new orleans? I'll find out as I'm heading over there this February for Mardi Gras :)

The hush puppies were "ok." The crab and shrimp were decent. The crawdads were yummy. I've been to a few other places that serve up these crawdads and I would say Crawdad King does it better than the rest of them (from what I've seen so far).

I enjoy spice and I enjoy seafood, so needless to say, I enjoyed Crawdad King.

Of course it is not a place where you walk in hungry and walk out full (unless you eat a whole lot of other stuff -- like their jumbalaya or gumbo or w/e else they serve). Of course it is not a fancy place (you get pretty messy and eat with your hands and wear cheesy bibs, but trust me- you'll want the bibs to protect your clothes. Their cajun fries are pretty good (fries with cajun seasoning) and you can order up some sausage (will be thrown in the plastic bags to pick up the spice) to go with it. The corn is so- so, and only b/c it's usually overcooked.

I've had the jambalaya here too. It's "so so" as well.

My usual? A Palmer to drink, Cajun Fries to start and Crawdads w/ sausages to follow me through.

Ok, crawfish are not my thing. I would've only realized this after trying it. I paid $10 for a bag of shells?! The meat that you actually get out of one of these things is the size of your big toe nail. C'mon!!! All that peeling and nothing. The hush puppies were disappointing although I only have CreoLa's to compare and that's not a fair comparison. They lacked flavor and were dry. The corn was was overboiled with that rubbery texture and they just threw it in the crawfish bag to get that "cajun" flavor. After going here, I noticed there are quite a few crawfish places popping up in the Southbay, all Asian owned (usually Vietnamese). I probably won't go to any since I didn't enjoy my first experience, unless I get something other than the crawfish.

Crawdad King! HA... more like crawdad princess. I am so disappointed in this place. I went to this place with a friend and the 1st thing we ordered was 1pound of the shrimp. OMG!!! the shrimp were served on a plate not in bag so the shrimp can drown in the juices and seasoning. The shrimp were very bland for my taste. we also ordered 1 pound of the crawdad's. These were so small that it almost made me cry.  If you want some real southern seafood boil place, go to Crawdaddy's in San Jose. My friend and I actually went there after Crawdad King because Crawdad King didn't satisfy our hunger. If you like under average food Crawdad King is your place, but for me, i'll go to Crawdaddy's for the real stuff..

I saw this place coming from work. At first, I thought it was just a typical all-american fast food type of place. I came through the door and was helped by one of the servers, great hospitality and service here. I was pretty confused when looking at the menu, because I'm not very familiar with cajun southern food. The server told me that their specialties is cajun style crawfish, and that I can choose the level of spice, Also, I can add additional sausages and corn. I must say, I was a bit hesitant, but since I am a seafood lover.. I went for it.. 2 pound of crawfish, medium, extra garlic and butter (Make sure you ask for cajun twist! It's full of flavor!), 12 piece of sausages, and one order of corn. It came out in a steam bag, so I thought that was weird.. but, WOW.. I'm very surprised of how something so tiny could be packed with tuns of flavor.  I also tried the PEI mussel, sauteed with garlic/ butter and wine.. ummmm.. DELICIOUS!!

I'm definitely taking my friends here!!

not gonna lie...the food is mediocre, but what you're paying for is the ambiance.  my first impression was how hip this place is being patronized primarily by 20-somethings glancing up occasionally from the table at the store's three lcd tv's.  the music selection isn't the best, but that's just opinion.  the waitresses were great and literally all over the floor.  whatever you need, ask any of the staff (not just your server) and they're willing to do what they can.  we got a bottle of soju, albeit un-refrigerated, on top of the beers (reasonably priced, btw) and our server brought out a pitcher of ice so we could chill it!  very nice.  yes, the amount of food you get out of the shellfish isn't exactly overwhelming...but it's shellfish so don't expect something comparable to a 12 oz. new york strip. honestly a good time with friends getting a buzz going and getting messy with some good food.  i love to bbq and this place felt like a chill out backyard bbq...without the cooking or cleanup.

We ordered the crawdads both hot and flaming hot.  We loved the flaming hot.  The sauce was lip tingling spicy for the hot but it did not soak into the crawdad so the flavor was not as intense as it could have been and that's why we needed to up it a notch.  We ordered 2 pounds but we question if it was truly that or with the side of corn weighed in as well.

The corn that sat in the "hot" (not fire) sauce just hit the spot in its degree of spicyness.  I would not order the corn again bcs it was a clear rip off.  1 "corn" is only 1/4th of a corn cob.

Earlier this year, I tried this restaurant out. I didn't like the flavor here because it was mostly powder and not liquidy. I felt I was just eating something that was all salty and spiced up .. and it needed much watering down and perfecting to do.

I had New Castle which was the only highlight.

It was pretty average. I'm not sure how it's doing now.. but from my personal experience.. it was average.

5 hush puppies is hardly what I consider an order but whatever, they were ok.  Everything else was just ok as well.  Nothing really special.  Their boils are somewhat flavorful but far from Cajun.  What was kind of annoying was that we ordered a 1lb of crab boil and the waitress brings out a 2lb crab and says here.  I thought i just ordered 1lb?  There is no disclaimer that they will give you a whole crab and charge you for whatever it weighs.  The crab was a far from a boil as well as it tasted more like an Asian style sauce mixture.  Overall its a decent place to hang with some buddies and pick at finger type foods but thats about it.  Lately i've been seen many of these "cajun" type places opening but most seems to be asian people trying to imitate it.

I passed by this place the other night and it seemed like a fun atmosphere.  There were groups of people having beers, hanging out, with three plasma tvs in the background.  They have a lot of fried foods - oysters, calamari, prawns, clams - and then they specialize in boiled crawdads, crabs, and shrimps.

I got the jambalaya to go and this time there were only two people at a table.  (It was early.)  Some cool indie music was playing on the speakers.  The jambalaya was mushy - not a bad thing - and pretty spicy.  I didn't mind the taste, but there seriously needs to be more substance - more sausage and shrimp!  One tiny shrimp shouldn't even be listed on the menu (uh, unless you're allergic, but then you wouldn't be coming to this place.)

While it looks like a fun place to hang out and the right intentions are there to create an authentic seafood/southern joint (looks vietnamese owned?), I'll probably pass.

*Bonus:  For you HAPPY HOUR lovers, 50% off on beer M-F 4-6pm.

I don't really consider this place a place where you come in and eat a nice meal and walk out full. It's more like play food. It's best if you come with a group of friends. The first time I came here, I was with my boyfriend and we met up with our friends. We all decided to try it out because none of us have ever eaten there before. The crawdads are pretty spicy if you got "hot." The corn is alright, they just boil it up and throw it in the bag of crawdads. Overall, it's a pretty chill place and fun environment. I do agree, the place is to small.

Went to eat Crawdads for the 1st time here, and got what I was asking for. Hot & Spicy crawdads and shrimp for $1 cheaper than Boiling Crab. This place is perfect for "fun eating" eating with a group of friends. 1 Major flaw is that this place is too small, it tends to get crowded on the weekends. Other than that go there and eat eat Eat!

Recent Visit:  The crawdad's are still reallly good! I enjoy this place a lot.. I've tried the other places and I'm not quite into their sauce.. I think its a bit too greasy for my flavor.. but some people may like it like that.. if you do.. you can always ask for extra garlic butter... but again.. its just not something that i'm into.. The last time I went.. they have this new dish.. i think its called the Pae mussles... either way.. it was good!!!! I would come back for some more the next time I visit... And I just saw a flyer that they're having a FEBRUARY SPECIAL!!!  I believe they're doing happy hour prices for Saturday!! and of course they also have a valentines speical.. buy 4lb get 1 free... :)  I don't think I'll be able to make it for valentines.. but I'll definitely come check out the saturday special! I guess until next time.. I'll keep you posted.

1st visit: I love crawfish and I haven't found a restaurant that makes it just the way I like it... and now I have~!!!  The crawdad is AMAZING... I LOVE the spices!!  I live in Stockton and I would drive over an hour to come have these crawdads!  They don't have anything like this in stockton!!

The atmosphere is lively & fun.  I went with a group of my friends and they all enjoyed the experience.  They played pleasant music and there are 3 flat screen tv's for all you sports lovers out there!!  The place is a bit small, but I felt like it was a very comfortable & cozy environment.

The best part was.. I got my PICTURE on the wall!!  They take polaroid pictures of first timer's and I was able to personalize my picture!

Overall, the place might need some minor improvements, but I LOVED the crawdad's and my friends and I had a whole lot of fun!! I recommend the restaurant as I belive it is a cool hangout spot and if you're craving crawfish this is the place to go!!

Went there for lunch.  I was expecting more Cajun offerings, but the only Cajun-esque menu items were boiled crawdads, hush puppies, and jambalaya.  I asked for the jambalaya, but was told it wasn't ready yet.  The prices are high, the service is mediocre, but the food was reasonably tasty.  Overall I'd go back if I was fiending for crawdads, but not otherwise.  I was disappointed.

crawdads?  you mean those things we used to fish out of the neighborhood pond when we were little?  you can eat those things?!

the idea of this restaurant is great.  a neighborhood restaurant to kick back a few, watch sports, and eat a lot of seafood.  too bad it's located in a strip mall in the midst of a residential housing development.

the food was average.  we ordered the sampler platter (fried oysters, fish, and shrimp), two different styles of crawdads, corn, and cajun fries.  the crawdad styles were barely discernable from each other and altho not offending, both were quite bland.  the cajun fries were the best part of the meal.  they came out piping hot and full o' flavor!  i probably wouldn't make the effort to return just for good french fries tho....

Nice little place.  The crawfish wasn't cooked very well, but if you like crowds and just a casual place to have a bunch of friends, this is the place to be.
