I went in here yesterday to purchase a wedding gift. I knew what I wanted walking in and had a fairly easy time locating everything. The store was very clean and organized. Once I found almost all I wanted I got in line and another cashier came up and asked if I was ready and said they could help me at another register. They also helped me locate the one item I could not find as well as take the items off the register that I was purchasing! They then careful wrapped and boxed up my purchases making my life a lot easier. Great store!
I wasn't a fan of Crate and Barrel. I'd been in once or twice, bought a picture frame as a gift and left.
At the urging of my MOH I registered online for a few things, but swore anyone could get the stuff cheaper at Target.
I. was. wrong.
The silverware we received is utterly genious. The spoons are like little ladels. When eating cereal, I actually get milk with my Cheerios!
http://www.crateandbar...
With the gift certificate we received I actually found an orange peeler! My mom had one when I was young and I hadn't seen one since. It makes it much more easier to peel than trying with my crappy nails.
They also had a hard boiled egg timer. Who knew? I just boiled the crap out of them til they cracked! Now I can cook them right and actually color them for Easter! Yipee!

I am aesthetically challenged and the series of apartments that I inhabited during my college days (when funds were not so free-flowing - not that it is *that* free-flowing now but financial condition sure has improved, albeit a little) contained mismatched pieces sourced from Ikea, hand-me-downs from departing seniors, or secondhand furniture shops.
So when I finally bought the condo, I did not trust my own creative judgment and simply went to Crate & Barrel to purchase bedroom set with matching side tables, mirror and drawers, living room set with plasma TV stand, dining room set with matching buffet *AND* study room set with matching bookcase.
Despite risking my condo looking like something out of the C&B catalog, the results are pleasing to the eyes and wallet.

Very cute stuff! The furniture is so very modern and good quality. The kitchenware on the first floor is also very nice.
My fave CB ever.
It's big, it's beautiful, it's brightly lit, it's 2 packed-to-the-gills stories, it's 5 minutes from my house, AND it has a wonderful bathroom.
Others that write about it being inspiring are true. However, I get SO inspired when I go in there that I typically have fits of ADD, resulting in buying hardly anything that seems inspiring because I can't make any sort of decision on what I want to actually get!
So...I just hang around in the kitchen section. Because buying a $5 cake tester is so much less committment than a $50 vase.
On my latest visit, I found the absolute cutest ever pink and white cupcake liners. They are limited for spring, so I got THREE containers. Hoard much? Not me!! Plus I know how fast these pretties can go poof.
Staff here is always super friendly, no matter how busy, and it's the perfect place to kill 30 minutes if you are waiting for a friend at Santana.
Now if I could just walk in with a PLAN and walk out with exactly what I hoped to get...it would be a miracle. Someday. Until then I will just continue to scour the catalogs...walk in with a fabulous idea...and then end up haunting the kitchen section.

I love you Crate and Barrel. Yeah Im one those urbanites who like things simple and have no sense of decorating adventure outside of the CB, PB, RH and Ballard Design catalogs I get.
I wish had the money to hire someone to give me a little more creativity, I have great taste, I just dont have the fortitude to travel all over god's green earth to get the perfect non matching bedroom furniture or perfect black chandelier.
We registered here for our wedding and it was great. The staff were super nice and my husband loved the fact that he could have cocktails while I ran around the store - hungover and green - with that little handheld registry thingy.
I just picked up a very cool, although way uncomfortable on the barefoot, sisal rug. As long as my dogs dont destroy it all should be well.
My favorite time to go is on a Monday. It is peaceful and quiet and I can peruse with no stupid people to bother me.....oh the stupid people.
Yeah you were out in full force on Sunday. Seriously, there is a reason not to shop retail on the weekends. The SP had their children babysat by the escalator as they stared endlessly at a candleholder while I had to dodge past Chucky to get upstairs. I really wanted to see that troll have his fingers sucked in by the escalator. ugh. The SP were also aimlessly standing around in the middle of aisles, I guess they were foreign because the taunting tone of me saying excuse me fell on deaf ears. The SP also decided it would be fun to stroll through the heavily packed store at a snails pace while they took up the only walkway possible to get around - seriously people the common sense meter no longer exists.......I feel so much better now
I still love you CB......but only on Mondays

Sarah F. is so right on about CB being a great inspiration! Whenever I walk into this store, I'm planning my future home. Most of the items I want are beyond reach for me, right now. But they have a bunch of reasonably priced items, which I think is great for people with budgets, like me. When I do shop at CB, it's usually at the one in PA, just because it's more convenient for me. I think the customer service at this place is better, though.

I really want to like this store. I lust over their emails and catalogs I get in the mail, but when I go in here I always feel like I can't exactly find anything to buy, so I more use this store as "great inspiration".
Crate and Barrel does have a very nice selection of cookware and their wine and champagne glasses are very modestly priced.
The furniture or throw pillows they had never did it for me but I will definitely be back again.

As a cornerstone of the posh Santana Row strip, I expected more.
We got some stuff here for our wedding. As busy people, it took us a while to get around to returning it. One item we got a whopping $4 credit for because it was past the 30 days or whatever limit from the time of the wedding. Is that fair? A vase now isn't worth even half the cost of a vase 2 months ago?
And what about the 10% registry completion program? It's been 9 months and we never got the card. If they have stipulations on how to qualify, they sure didn't put that in the print on their website, I checked.
Whatever, we took our $4 credit. Unfortunately, there isn't much stylistically at C&B that appeals to us. I'm not taking anything off their rating for that, though.
We ordered a large item, the one thing we found there. Debbie took the order over the phone. Great! I was concerned with the size of the boxes, though, and she wasn't able to provide the dimensions.
Our order came in a week later and we got the call for pickup. Cool! This time, they had the box dimensions in the system and read them to me. I had these dimensions verified by two different employees.
Unfortunately, the dimensions were WRONG. One of them read 80.5 inches instead of 8.5 inches. We were panicking, calling friends, trying to find someone to help us get this gigantor 7 foot box home, as we had no reason to expect our product in a refrigerator. On a third call, we happened to get an associate who said she fit the box into her small car, so we tried. Yea...8.5 inches, not 80. They need to get that corrected.
We went to pick our item up and they ask for the receipt. They load stuff into the car....and can't find the receipt to return to us. Eric was very nice about trying to find it and coming up with a replacement, although it took a bit of waiting.
We take our island home and start building. One of the bolts had NO threading, and was bent. Now we have to wait another week to get a replacement bolt to build the thing. I know things happen...but on a $500 item it'd be nice to get quality the first time around.
Products I have no interest in, inaccurate information, poor return policies, and no discount as advertised in their completion program. Boo!

This is pretty much like any other Crate & Barrel I've been to, except larger! This is a two story location.
Overall, Crate & Barrel is reasonably priced for home items. I'm not as big a fan of their furniture, which I think is sometimes not well designed and / or way overpriced.
We like this place and we were going to do our registry here, but the lady we spoke to told us about their registry policy, which completely turned us away. She claimed that any items we returned (if someone didn't include a gift receipt) would be refunded in the original form of payment, which mean someone would get a credit back if they used a credit card to pay. I confirmed three times we wouldn't get a store credit. I took off one star for either bad customer service or a really bad registry policy.
The employees that work at this Crate & Barrel are so helpful. They helped me find all sorts of things that I was buying for a friend's wedding registry. Rang them all up, sorted and packed them all and did it all with a huge smile. I felt good about spending my money there today.
OMG! I need I swear it I need store credit at this Crate and Barrel. Hell I need a bigger apartment but I have a patio to furnish and I want some table linens and I found some silk Japanese laterns floral design there and they have a clean bathroom and yes the sales people are stuck up but that way you know you are Crate and Barrel. I never in my life wanted more stuff that is couldn't possibly fit into my apartment. Though I am suddenly attracted to sectionals and curio cabinets when I am in the store...this is bad. very bad, but oohh so good! Retail Therapy works!

Why is it so difficult to buy a comforter?? Duvet? ARGH!! Anyways... cute stuff... the older staff folks are competent and can help you with anything..some of the teenagers not so much... I love the two floors.... Found my bedding :-)....
UPDATE
found my bedding on line at CrateandBarrel.com!!
So minus one star for the girl at the register lying to me "the comforter only comes in king size.." BULLSH#$!!!! Yesterday I got my Full/Queen size COMFORTER and duvet, and some cute pillow covers, shams if you will via UPS...I am ordering on line from now on.... or going to another location. I would rather pay for shipping and handling than deal with the teenagers/early twenties people that work there.

We've purchased our furniture from the 2nd floor. Karen helped and assisted us in our selection process for our sofa. She was wonderful and took the time to help me select a matching rug and other items. Great customer service.
Sofa - great couldn't be happier, but it took 2 deliveries for us to get our sectional. Karen and the management worked with us and apologized for the delay.
Desk/Hutch/Credenza - great pieces and quality
Book shelves - not so happy, the quality is poor/average at most, some shelves were not smooth, and snags the dust cloth.
Parking does suck at Santa Row, so go early.
As usual, Crate and Barrel is hard to stay away from. Excellent prices...all the goodies for your home. Expensive furniture pricing though.
It is difficult to find staff to help you out at this location, and it may be better to go to the Stanford location so you don't have to deal with Santana Row parking.
The USS Goodship Crate and Barrel stands out like a Picassoesque cubist QE2 on "lovely" Stevens Creek Blvd...but I still love this store. I've bought most of my furniture and kitchen ware here. When I walk in this place, I get that warm, fuzzy feeling I used to get as a kid walking into my favorite toy store.

Everytime I step inside this store, I just want to open my arms wide and yell, "I'll take it all!" I always, ALWAYS, tell myself, "I'm just here to look, resist temptation, just LOOK, and then walk away". Nope, can't! I always find something here to furnish my kitchen, or bathroom with. And of course, when I got married, I set up a registry here! Oh and speaking of that, when my fiancee (husband now) and I started getting wedding presents we got a beautiful glass cake dome from a family friend. It came broken, not Crate and Barrel's fault, but I was so upset :( Anyways, we kept the broken glassware in it's black and white box and the next day we brought it back to the Santana Row location (even though our friends bought it from the Stanford location) We simply showed and explained what happened, and without any question, were immediately presented with another cake dome nestled cozily in better packaging. Couldn't have been happier!
They have a lot of staff at this place but you can't really find anyone to help you out. The store is so big that its probably impossible for them to have people to cover all the different areas. Crate and Barrel has a neat wedding registry program. You can sign up online or in the store. They send you inserts for your wedding invitations after you sign up. When you get to the store all you need to do is request a scanner, they take you license in exchange for the scanner. You drag you fiancee around the store and proceed to pick out things that you need. Its kind of fun scanning all the stuff. They have a great return policy too. For everything you have a gift receipt for, you can get cash back. Woo hooo
This particular store is very large, it has two levels. The bottom level contains all the accessories and kitchenware. While the up stairs section has a lot of furniture. They seem to be more helpful upstairs than below. We were immediately approached by an employee when we got up to the top level.

I love walking into this store! They have everything I'd want in my house! I plan to have my wedding registry here just like everyone else. =P I am most interested in their wide selection of kitchenware in various designs and styles. There's something here for every kind of personality. The staff is usually helpful. I've come into the store many times to purchase stuff off of friend's wedding registry and I didn't realize how simple it is to locate and purchase those items at the store. The location of the store is great. It really stands out being on Stevens Creek Blvd with tall glass windows.
*UPDATE* 1/28/08
Yesterday, we had gone to their wedding registry event. It was on a Sunday from 9-11 am before the store was open to the public. They gave us a scanner and quickly walked us through on how to register for items. They had demos of some products as well as hor d'oeuvres and drinks. It was nice to be able to take our time in looking at everything. I think it was very convenient for all couples. All the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Once we were done scanning, we created our registry at one of their stations and entered all our info. It read all the items off the scanner and uploaded to our registry. It even let us print it out. Talk about easy! At the end, they gave us a gift...heart shaped glass container. That was a nice ending. We enjoyed our time there.
Cool hideaway, second floor, balcony facing Santana Row, you can peek into the unit across the street or watch cars enter SR. They've got their outdoor seating setup on this balcony, chill, relax, pack a picnic... until the staff kicks you out. Just tell them you're thinking of buying it, but wanted to test things out ;-)

This 2-storied Crate & Barrel has almost as much stuff as its flagship store in San Francisco. The selections are great, but naturally, expensive. However, during sale-time, you can pick up excellent bargains if you're early. What I've noticed about Crate & Barrel is that generally, they won't have a sale until after some holiday -- for instance, after Christmas, their sale was incredible! Picked up some super bargains during that time. On top of the household decorative items and kitchen stuff, the 2nd floor has outdoor items as well as furniture.
This is one huge C&B. It's a pleasant place to browse, and is close to all the tasty Santana Row eateries. There are tons of housewares, kitchen items, and home decorating accents. This is a great place to find a gift for someone you don't know terribly well...
I love this store.
I come in here sometimes to just stare and dream and picture what the perfect home can look like and then I have to wake myself up because I just can't afford that shit right now.
I definitely love this store for its design elements, the great furniture and good customer service. My daughter has the habit of going through the kitchen utensils as if she's going to be buying them and the associates don't; seem to mind much. I acutally bought my kitchen utensils from here and they were the C&B brand, not too bad.
They were metal handles with plastic as the ummm spoon or spatula part. Whatever thats called....It was only $5 each. SCORE!!!
The other place we registered, very simple process. They also hold closed doors events for couples which was very cool. Champagne, snacks (who doesn't like champagne and snacks?) and a cool atmosphere to introduce you to the process.
Nice selections of plates and flatware, nice bar glasses as well. Not a huge fan of their wine glasses, they seem a little flimsy.
Returns were really easy, we arrived with a bunch of boxes and had a flock of people descended on us to help. We were in and out in like 10 minutes with $600 with of returns/exchanges. Great service!
This has to be my absolute favorite home store. I frequent this place so much and rave about it so much, I actually have friends who come over to dinner and flip my plates over to see if its from C&B. Funny friends.
I personally think their prices are reasonable because of the high quality of their stuff. Two Christmas's ago, I made the greatest discovery at C&B. I was doing the after x-mas thing at Valley Fair and Santana Row when I chanced upon a growing line outside C&B. This musta been like 8:15am. So I asked one of the peeps in line what they were waiting for. She told me they were all waiting for C&B to open because they have the best after x-mas sale. So like a lemming, I followed the crowd and lined up not knowing what to expect. I gotta say, when the doors opened, people were rushing in as if C&B were giving out $100 bills. All their x-mas stuff was on sale. I found myself grabbing stuff that I didn't even need or want. The thrill of the chase was what I was after. Needless to say, I scored some serious mixing bowls, ceramics, utensils, mugs, casserole dishes, etc for half the price. The only downside to this was that I was limited by what I could haul around in the sea of people. So now, I have "Shop at C&B" on my calendar entry of 12/26.
This past Christmas, I lined up outside C&B on the morning of 12/26. Apparently, this is an annual pastime for C&B enthusiasts because I saw many familiar faces in line. I overheard the funniest conversation while in line. This one person had brought along two others to help her snatch and grab for deals and they were mapping out their strategy before the doors opened.
See you at C&B.

I love to walk through this place and envision my dream home! This place is amazing with tons of great furniture, handy kitchen gadgets, and almost everything to stock & decorate your entire home. Yes, it can be pricey, but it's quality.. So if you have the money, I think it's definitely worth the buy. Also, as a previous Yelper mentioned, keep a look out for their sales! They can be a huge bargain.
I almost always include Crate and Barrel in my walk around Santana Row.
Bottomless Pit! There isn't one time that I acutally walk out of this store without new purchases. It seems that I always need a new mug, or beer glass, or even fake flowers. This place completely brainwashes you, and you completely forget that whatever you're getting also completely belongs in 10,000 other households in America. One completely nation, one complete crate & barreled.
