Yeah, I hate to say it because there are already too many people there already, but there's not a prettier beach around. I have to try the shuttle sometime, because driving up from Cambridge on a Saturday afternoon seriously sucks. I have waited in lines for more than an hour going the last 3 miles to the beach.
But it's totally worth it. And you have to stop by Russell Orchards on your way home. They have home-made pies/cobblers/donuts/ice cream.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's the perfect way to end the day.

Visited here last summer and I have to say, it is a nice clean beach. Got packed during July of course but it is tucked away and with a backdrop of typical old New England. The water is like any in Mass, freezing but there is plenty of room and the fees to enter are reasonable.

Beautiful beach in one of my favorite towns. Impeccably clean, and very spacious. If you are planning on driving in from the city, bring some friends to help pay down the redonkulous price they charge on the weekends. Otherwise, take the commuter rail to downtown Ipswich and ride the shuttle to the beach to save a couple of sheckles. Take some time to check out the Apple Orchard on Argilla Rd. on your way to or from the beach. It has its own stop on the shuttle as well. If you plan on drinking at the beach, bring cups as not to get harassed by the elderly beach patrol tooling around on ATV's. Or just make a rum punch. Or don't be an alcoholic. See what I care. But in all seriousness, you'll need booze to even attempt swimming in the 63 degree water.
