While I will let others speak of the food and restaurant, I came in for a quick drink and was fascinated by the ambiance.

To compliment the friendly services are  hours of viewing and reading the walls of the bar.  Now, if you have zero interest in boxing, you will be bored.  However, if the topic of boxing interests you somewhat, then it is worth the trip to this farthest part of western Queens.  The primary sources of history lining the walls will bring the boxing fan back to the golden ages of the sport.

Enjoy your beer and stay for a few rounds.

Came here on a Friday night after work for a nice dinner to help combat a stressful day. The view of NYC is fantastic, but I don't go to restaurants for the views.

The food was awesome -- we ordered crab stuffed mushrooms to start, cooked perfectly and with an interesting remoulade sauce. For dinner, we split the Baltimore platter and the shellfish steamer. The Baltimore platter was fried shrimp, fried fish (fish & chips style), stuffed crab, crab cake and fries. everything was cooked well, and nothing was overly fried. All the seafood tasted fresh and of good quality. The steamer was mussels, clams, shrimp, sausage, corn & potatoes -- all was good, but my feeling was that they should have listed that the shrimp were eat & peel (I HATE PEELING SHRIMP!!!), and also the mussels were a bit small. Not bad tasting, just teeny tiny. The clams, on the other hand, were huge!

We split the bread pudding for dessert -- holy crap. So rich and filling! Service was great too -- very attentive.

I'd definitely come back to try some more things on the menu! Really good quality seafood :)

As for the views, this place sits right on the river with unobstructed views of Manhattan. Views like that from the Manhattan side would cost you big time. I went one Saturday afternoon for lunch. The clam chowder was disappointing; Tasted like something I would open out of a can at home with no seasoning. The crab and shrimp salad wasn't much better; Too much iceberg lettuce, shrimp looked like they had been precooked and thawed to serve (resulting in a tough texture). The toast was hard and cold. My glass of Malbec was warm and tasted like it had been sitting around in an open bottle (stale).

I understand the river is teeming with Striped Sea Bass (there is a fishing pier right behind the restaurant and the fishermen back there were pulling in some nice catch!) so I might revisit for the nighttime view and some fresh striped bass!  I hope to add more stars on my next visit. Service was decent. It was early in the day and I sat in the bar area so it wasn't very busy. I will give me another chance next time I have visitors from out of town.

So, it was my first evening out with this amazing (looking and otherwise) girl I had just met 16 hours earlier. Being it had been an unexpected day of releasing much pent-up energy since the wee hours of meeting in the morn (blame it on the full moon,) it was good to get out and get some fresh air and much needed rejuvenation of good food. So we crossed the GWB to dip our toes into Edgewater for a spot she enjoys, yet I had never been.

There seemed to be a good number of people waiting for seating, but for some reason we didn't have to wait at all. Maybe it was because it was just the two of us. Maybe it was because we looked so good together...and tired...and in need of nourishing replenishment...

We were seated upstairs right next to the window (which I highly recommend.) After taking pictures of the view, and each other (I know, I know, but what do you want? It was the wrap up to our first date,) we ordered a couple glasses of wine, and decided on what to eat:

    Appetizer:
crab & shrimp stuffed mushrooms, baked with parmesan in a white wine sauce. (bangin!)

    Her Entree: "Shrimp Madrid"
sauteed shrimp with asparagus, tomatoes and spinach in a garlic butter, tossed with angel hair pasta. (pretty tasty.)

    My Entree: "Snapper Milanese"
parmesan crusted snapper topped with jumbo lump crab in lemon butter sauce, served with asparagus and a tasty vegetable/rice combination. (bigiddy-bangin! word is bond, son!)

The bread they had brought out beforehand was excellent as well. or maybe it was our famishedness...

It's just now dawning on me that we didn't get dessert. WTF? I ALWAYS get dessert! I was stuffed though. We both were. And really, the service was pretty slow. And we were ready to get out of there, nahmean? Dessert was waiting at the crib...

The view is one of the most valuable assets this place has in terms of ambiance. It was even a ~*~dark and stormy night~*~ and everyone was commenting on how cool the lightning looked.

Not sure what other Yelpers are talking about with food coming to the tables cold or inattentive waiters. We had a party of seven and everyone's food was fresh. The only thing, though, it took so long for the people who ordered the steamers to eat because of opening the crab and peeling shrimp compared to the people who ordered knife-and-fork dishes. I recommend that everyone in the party coordinates what they want when they order, otherwise you might have a bunch of bored people sitting around talking while others (...like myself) voraciously attempt to quickly finish their pots of shellfish.

Besides the entrees, I loved the oysters from the raw bar. Considering how large our party was, I'd say that the food came out at a reasonable pace. They have a full bar, too, and the wine selection is pretty good. The whole place is clean, down to the bathrooms. If you're with one other person, I'd imagine it feels pretty intimate. The dim lights and the view make for a slightly upscale, but not overly pompous atmosphere. Coupled with a great selection of quality seafood, I'd say you're in for a solid experience.

Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc, a dozen Blue Point oysters, Crab House Feast, King Crab add-on, finished off with a chocolate truffle cake. The lady and I called it a night after that. Good seafood dinner as always. No bib though? Moist towelettes for our hands? Smile and genuine hospitality from our server? Tsk tsk. Hence, the 3 stars.

Quite an excellent view from almost every seat in the house, including the bar. While the food is nothing exceptional, it's hardly poor fare. My personal fave & recommendation for lunch: the fried seafood platter. It's deliciously unhealthy and artery clogging.

The place isn't known for their prompt service, but it's friendly & attentive enough, all my orders have always come out correctly. Waiting to get seated tends to be a problem, but if you have reservations your patience won't run out.

While the location & outdoor scene is ideal, the restaurant itself is much more casual than it would probably care to admit. It's like an Applebee's for seafood, nothing special or outstanding, but hits the spot when you need it.

Started the night with mango sangria which was good - not too weak nor strong. Our server was nice but was MIA half the time (and forgot our order of salad).

They bring out sourdough bread which was nothing noteworthy.
They're located right on the water so that alone sets a nice atmosphere. The restaurant itself is very simple and casual.

    Appetizers:
    1) Calamari: Meh. I've had better.
    2) Spring rolls were okay.

    Entrees:
    1) Maryland Crab Vegetable Soup: it was good but rather small for the price.
    2) 1/2 dozen East Coast Oysters. One was blue point which is an oyster I like, and I forgot what the other one was. You can't mess up this order too much?
    3) Lobster tail: overcooked

Overall was a mediocre experience. I would come here for their Crab House Feast - a big bucket of seafood. I've had it in the past, and it's fun to eat with a friend if you're in the mood for seafood.

    Such a disappointment.

Service was extremely slow. I didn't have enough confidence in the place to actually order seafood, and I'm glad that I didn't. I tried someone else's Calamari appetizer. The squid tasted fishy and was so overcooked that it was dry and shriveled. On the same platter, were various deep fried fruits and vegetables. What I thought was a fried yellow squash turned out to be a fried slice of lemon complete with the seeds and rind. : /

My meal was the Southwest Chicken Sandwich; grilled chicken, avocado and bacon on a ciabatta roll. It tasted fine, however when it was served to me, I was informed that the prep cook forgot to put lettuce and tomato on the sandwich. The same explanation was also given to another patron at our table who ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich. Not a big deal but it didn't help improve my impression of the place.

When we arrived early for our 6:00 PM reservation we were told that we could not sit at our table until our entire party was there.  Even though I asked to be seated so that we could order appetizers and drinks, I was told it was company policy.  So my wife, my elderly mother, and I waited for almost half an hour until my son and his wife arrived.

The dining experience itself was mediocre.  The food wasn't bad, albeit overpriced, but the service was awful.  I can live with the waiter mixing up orders and putting the wrong plates in front of everyone.  But what really started irritating people was that empty plates and glasses started to pile up on our table and no one seemed to be making any attempt to clear them.  In fact, the waiter brought the dessert tray over to our table even before he cleared the table or bothered to wipe up the crumbs from our bread.  When I asked him why the bus boys weren't clearing the table, he told me they don't do that.   I'm not sure what they do.

As I said the food was fine.  We're not a particularly picky family.  The five of us all had five different meals, and no one complained about the presentations or the taste.  But there's more to dining than the food.

Location is pretty important I guess. This place is right across the city, just a river away. When you dine here at night, the views are gorgeous (especially during the summertime).

Obviously, by all the other reviews you can tell that it's not the best seafood/crab house out there but it's worth a try. The service isn't too great and the food is just alright but HEY you got a pretty view going on!!!

Make sure to check the weather before you make reservations. It's not worth going at all if it's foggy out because it defeats your whole purpose of dining here! Enjoy

This place was disappointing! I live in the area and had been looking to stop by for some time. I recently went for an impromptu dinner and was thoroughly unimpressed.

To start, while the service is very genuine and friendly, it's not great. The wait for everything takes a while. I went on a weeknight, and there weren't too many parties there, however, service was simply slow. It took forever to get some water.

They start you off with a loaf of bread and butter which was delicious -  until we cut through to the center and realized that the bread was still frozen inside. I don't think I've ever experienced that before. We kindly told the waitress about the bread and she was apologetic, but we didn't ask for another loaf.

We ordered a steak and the Snapper Milanese (topped with jumbo lump crab and a lemon butter sauce). Both were tasteless to mediocre. The steak was bland and rubbery. We first tried it without any sauce but was unimpressed with the meat that we decided to douse it in A1. The snapper was heavily breaded for fish. I asked for the butter sauce on the side, but they forgot to bring it out, and I didn't want to wait around for it so I just ate it. The fish was very bland and soggy, with way too much breading. The sides were bland as well...

Overall, nothing stood out. Oh, except the fish tacos! Those were pretty good - I do recommend the fish tacos, and I would probably stick to just apps and drinks if I ever revisit this place again.

Came here with a date and was impressed by the views. Unfortunately it was too cold to sit outside but I was happy with our window seat.

The drinks were good and pretty potent. I opted for fried shrimp and fries which I crave once in a blue moon so it was nothing of a culinary stand out but it satisfied my craving.

My date had... well who cares because we are not seeing each other any more.

It is best to try to get to this place a little later in the evening to miss the crowds and the wait.

I had past this place a dozen times and didn't think much of it.  Based on the reviews I wasn't expecting much either.  But I am a totally sucker fro any outdoor outside dining area.  Bonus that this one is right on the water with a NYC view.

The food isn't really anything but if you go for soup, crabs and drinks you are golden.

Had dinner with a group of friends one weekend. The wait for a table was significant despite reservations. Food was very good, the views are fabulous. The service however.....not attentive, we had to ask several times for things. Good food & ambiance are important, service is equally as important & if it's not good, it just makes the evening a bit of an unpleasant experience. Prices were fairly reasonable. Hope to give it another chance & have a better experience.

The best part about this place is the location and view. Good spot to enjoy some clams/oysters on the outdoor deck with some drinks enjoying the view.

You could also bring a fishing pole with you and after enjoying some food/drinks on the deck cast your line out off the pier. Its a good fishing spot!

Amazing view of NYC! I cannot wait to come back during the summer.

Drinks were delicious yet weak. Also, they did not have a drinks menu, just a wine list, which was a bummer.

The waiter we had was amazing and attentive. He was genuinely friendly and warm.

I personally had the Blue Pointe oysters (recommendation of the waiter) and it was delicious and the description they had on the menu was perfect.
For the main course, I had lemon sole stuffed with crab meat. The sole was a bit dry but the crab meat was great.
The key lime pie dessert was tangy yet soft. The whipped cream they used was great.

Downfall of the restaurant, the atmosphere sadly thanks to the guests that were there. All I heard was crying babies, people cracking crab legs like they were in a race to see who can crack more and the sucking of the meat OUT of the crab legs.
Throughout my meal, all I heard was, "WAHHHH (crack) SLLLURRRRP WAAAAAH (crack) SLLLLLUUUURRRRP" -- really killed it.

This restaurant definitely has great views of the city and is a popular spot, as is evidenced by the always full parking lot.  The bar is also a big hit for the locals, at one point, myself included.  So, my review is primarily for the happy hour, which I was surprised to see ran from noon to 7PM.  That's a lot of drinking time!  My friend and I were big fans of the Bloody Mary (garnished with shrimp) and the half priced martinis (I was in such a green appletini phase back then!).  I think they were $2.75 or $3.00 ... talk about VALUE!.

The bar food was very good and super economical:  chicken wings, clams rockefeller, shrimp cocktail and the like were all very tasty.  I think all bar specials during happy hour were $2.99 for each portion (6).    They also feature an AYCE seafood bar with king crab legs, shrimp, various other seafood ... but I have never tried it.  I have had the crabcakes which were average.

All in all, the Crab House can be a good value and I have heard from friends, that this is a good place for kids.  Don't come here looking for extraordinary seafood as this is a chain after all.  But then again, I don't like Legal Seafood either and many people swear by that chain.

We waited for 15 min for indoor seating when there were many open tables for lunch.  The food was only average and overpriced.  The atmosphere would have been better without the people fishing and drinking beer on the dock around the restaurant.

Bf and I went for a walk outside after lunch and the dock was dirty with the fishermen's litter.  It's hard to imagine that the Crab House allows its surrounding dock to stoop to such a level.

We won't be back again.... Sorry!

I've always liked going here when I was younger for a nice big crab dinner and great view of the bridge and Manhattan... While that's been replaced by other places for me now, I stopped by the Crab House before a movie to check out their happy hour, and was really well impressed.

All appetizers are half off, as are the drinks. That means beers for $3, flavored martinis for $4, well drinks for $4. It was all a really great deal.

The food was pretty good - calamari was standard, the crab dip was nice and a generous portion, the coconut shrimp was tasty though there were only 4, and the oysters on the halfshell were the only disappointment in that they were way too salty and tasted as if maybe they weren't cleaned with the utmost of care.

Overall, I got a couple of drinks and stuffed with food for $20, so that is enough for a good review and a return visit from me.

A platter which sounded good on the menu was disappointing: gritty stuffed crab, greasy, floppy battered fish, funky tasting shrimp (tasted like they were fried in really dirty oil), and a fishcake which combined all the unpleasant qualities of the previous items (to recap: gritty, greasy, floppy, and funky-tasting). The dungeness crab was nothing special, the bread was sourdough at its chewiest (seemed like another 10 mins baking time may have helped), and two small glasses of different unpleasant wines were over $7 each.

In its partial defense, we did visit the Crab House at 3pm on a Saturday, and were one of three groups in the large space. Still, if you can't keep food standards up all day, don't stay open all day. The view of Manhattan would be amazing on a clear day. Service was attentive, if a little creepy. Wouldn't go again.

The first impulse to eat at the Crab House was based soley on the amazing view of the city and the GWB. At dusk and after, this is a unique and absolutely beautiful view of the city and the twinkling reflecting lights on the Hudson river.

The waitstaff was very personable and attentive. The food was good. I was hoping our meals would live up to the rest of the ambiance/ view and blow us away but it just gets a good. The salad was a basic iceberg with a few tomotoes on it. and the italian dresing was Ken's maybe?  My seafood dish with capers was tasty. For a great location and view, I would abolutely recommend.

I also agree with one of the reviewers about their sourdough bread that it is under-'baked' because it was chewy.
My family who had the Mango Sangria said they've had better sangria elsewhere before.  They were a bit disappointed considering our server said that it is their popular Sangria.
Their Salad bar doesn't really look appetizing and is very limited and they charge $14 (all you can eat) for it.
For 6 people, the bill totaled to $190 (including tip).

I am taking back a star (possibly a star and a half) on this establishment after a night of the most awful service ever.

Don't get me wrong, food is still good. But with such poor service, I am thinking that it's not even worth sucking it up for the sake of good food.

Waitress pretty much disappeared for the entire night after slamming down 2 flattest beer in the history along with the menu. We ended up ordering through the bus boy who was nice enough. We got no bread, again NO seafood cracker and seafood fork with the order of crabs. I am quite puzzled. Doesn't the management train their servers anymore on what utensils to bring out??? She took orders from people that were seated after us and refused to look in our direction all night. Then she had the balls to come by to drop off the check and collect money, NO apologies, NO explanation, NOTHING.

Rudest hostess also told us upon arriving, wait would 1-1/2 hour since we didn't make reservations. I checked their website, it doesn't say reservation is a must. We made the reservation the first time we went a month ago but we noticed a lot of walk-ins. Then we noticed they seated the group of people that came in right before us who were told of the same wait time was taken in about 15-20 minutes after we decided to sit at the bar area.

We would have gotten a better service at Red Lobster. I am quite disappointed and I doubt that we will be going back unless management contacts me with some apologies and re-hires servers, which I highly doubt will happen, after all, it's a chain restaurant.

I have to be honest, I was really surprised when my wife and I walked into this place this past Friday night at around 7:30 and there was no wait. The restaurant actually had quite a bit of empty tables. Anyhow, the seafood does look quite fresh and the staff is very friendly. We mentioned to our waiter that my wife had to go back to work and out time was limited, and he had our entrees out pretty quick. My crab cake and shrimp scampi special with orzo and asparagus was on the small side but was quite tasty. My wife's Shrimp Madrid was also solid. The prices are a little on the high side but it is to be expected in Edgewater. This place might not blow you away but I think some of the reviewers are being a little hard on it.

Two stars for the food, drinks and service. Additional star for the view and outside back deck seating.  The restaurant is situated at the Edgewater Commons on the Hudson Riverwalk.  This makes it an uberpopular spot for drinks and dining when the good weather is upon us.

Wait for a table here is lengthy. Bonus that you can wait outside and enjoy the view and the company of your friends. Don't bother to wait inside the bar unless you are very, very thirsty and very, very patient. The bar area seems smaller than it is because it is packed with couples of various ages and lots of families with little kids in tow as well as great aunt Millie.

Sadly, the restaurant itself is corporate shite. The oysters on the half shell were adequate but of farm raised cloned quality. The portions are healthy but not overly large which is a good thing since this also is food with no inherent chi. We didn't bother to stay for dessert.

I would have actually given 3.5 stars if it were possible here at Yelp. This is a pretty decent restaurant with an outdoors area. The food is well prepared, although it is somewhat pricey (expect around $80-90 for two). The waiting time can be unreal. The most I've ever waited was well over 40 minutes, which was ridiculous considering the number of available tables outside. This place has a grew view of the NYC skyline, if you're looking for a place with such a view.

Most importantly, this is the place to be for top-notch, well prepared seafood of all kinds, regardless of if you're getting the signature crab, calamari or any of your other favorites (I've always been partial to good old fried cod). Portions are large: if you're getting an appetizer and then a main course, you most likely will not be able to finish it all. Be sure to take your time on the appetizer and wait a little before ordering the main dish, or you'll have too much food on the table when the main dish arrives.

Most people who go here dress up a little (that is, no jeans and t-shirts, as it will look a little tacky).

As for parking, your best bet is to try the Target parking lot which is adjacent from the pier.

you can sit near the windows where you can see the view of nyc but the hudson river is the hudson river...you can also walk around the outside near the river which is nice.

i would return for the oyster rockefeller

I mostly want to write this review to point out that the happy hour of Crab House is from 4-7pm now, not noon to 7pm. I recently tried to catch it at 3pm (cause who doesn't like some mid-afternoon drinking?) and was sadly disappointed. That said, if you can make it here during the correct hours half price appetizers and drinks is mighty fine.

I think I prefer to sit in the bar of Crab House, even though it means missing out on the view, because the full entrees and ambiance of the dining room are just a little too retirement for me. I mean seriously, a salad bar? If I'm paying for a classy meal, is it so much to ask that someone brings my salad to my table for me? It's also a bit loud and the food is just so-so. I say yes to raw bar, crab cakes, and drinks and I'll visit the dining room when my parents are in town.

Definitely a step up from Red Lobster, but not by much.  The food is okay, I enjoyed the crabcakes.  The crabstuffed shrimp were rather small and nothing incredible.

The dining room and deck, of course, are fabulous.  Great views from the pier as the restaurant is about 100 feet into the Hudson River, offering great views of the GWB and lower Manhattan.  The dining room decor could be improved, however.  The lights seem to be from the 80s.

    The service was okay.

Service is awful!  Friday night in Edgewater and I guess not that many places to go to...because the place was filled.  We put our name on the list and were told it would be about 20-30 minutes.  No problem!  We'll wait at the bar, right?  Got a seat with a beautiful view of the Hudson.  Told the hostess that we'd eat dinner at the bar.  Mistake #1.  Apparently a newbie bartender because we had to wait 15 minutes for a Newacstle and a pinot grigio.  Then when we said we wanted to order, she informed us that she was new and couldn't ring us up so she went to get someone else.  Ok...we're patient people.  15 minutes later no one had even so much looked in our direction.  No "I'll be right with you!" No "sorry we're really busy, hang on a sec."  Nothing.  Like we were invisible.  We took 5 more minutes, paid our tab and left...to go to someplace where they're not too busy to acknowledge their customers!

    Avoid.

The food and view were great but the service wasn't.  Happy hr, on Sunday, is from 1pm to 10pm. I didn't care for the fact that we were paying double for drinks in the dining area and the same drinks were half price at the bar.  We weren't allowed to buy the drinks from the bar to bring over to the table.  Another thing was that the restaurant is hard to find. Only one sign on the street and its located on a billboard practically covered by a tree. You can't see the restaurant from the street and the GPS tells you its located on your left when its actually located on the right in the plaza by the Outback Restaurant. Anyway, I will definitely go back. The food was very good and the desserts were out of this world. YUMMY.

Amazing view of the city skyline for NJ...but the food taste like seafood you buy in a box frozen.  Service is mediocre at best.  Weird thing was....they actually brought a large party to the table ours was connected to before we even got up. I thought that was just blah. Lobster Bisque was good, but if you mess that  up then you should go out of business.

If you're not in a hurry, maybe so you can enjoy the view and just talk all night without worrying about the food, this is the place to go. My first ever review which came from a 5 to 2 stars. Things have changed, I was there yesterday and saw that they need help, 4 tables were not cleared till it was almost time for us to leave, got the pics to prove it too. Waited out front for 15 minutes even when there were tables free, the lady in the peach blouse and pin stripped pants told us to wait a few minutes on the side and didn't tell us that they take down names till we saw couples being seated even though they came later than us. What was sad was the couple next to us once we were seated, stood up after they were done with drinks and left because the food didn't come out and I think they went to complain, no bread was given to us before our meal, we though it would eventually come, but it didn't. There's a clear issue with personnel and management, and this place needs a makeover. The only upside was the food was OK, had the lobster bisque as always even though it's pricey, but the Market Street platter had dry fish. We weren't full and to spend more than 80 bucks to me was a sin. I don't know what happened but sadly, it's about time to make a change.

My wife and I venture into Edgewater quite often, mostly for shopping and to go to the movies but we haven't been to many restaurants in the area.  One of the few spots that we have been to is The Crab House.  The Crab House is a moderately priced seafood restaurant that reminds me of a place my parents used to bring me when I was a kid.  It's nice family friendly atmosphere with amazing views of the Hudson and the Manhattan skyline.  For that reason alone, it's worth a visit.

CH offers a nice variety of seafood appetizers, and they portions are very large so I suggest you share an order.  I recommend the crab spring rolls which were very good.  I also hear good things about their crab cake, which is considered a house specialty.

The entrees at the CH include a medley of crab dishes, including crab stuffed with shrimp which I was very tempted to order but I ordered the red snapper with crab, avocado and picco de gallo which I was very pleased with.  They also offer steak, lobster and other common dishes you would find at a large seafood restaurant.

Come for the view, and linger for the food.

Absolute shit. Do not ever eat here. Allot seafood is microwaved and inedible unless you like chewing on rubber bands. The service is hellaciously slow. This place should be shut down immediately.

Despite all the poor reviews, we tried this place out.  We love cracking crabs and good seafood.  Although it is a great location with a great view, the seafood is done poorly.  We had Alaskan King crab legs and we were very disappointed with them.  I see why this place wasn't that crowded, NO repeat customers.  We will never go back.   If only North Jersey/New York had a good spot to crack crabs!!!
