This place is pricey and touristy but I found it to be delicious. I ordered the crab legs and a bowl of crab chowder. The crab meat was definately fresh but the sauce they coat the legs in is what makes it money.

A lot of people don't give this place a chance because it's touristy, but this is really a great seafood restaurant if you into crab. I would rate this as high as the family operated viet crab house (crustation? spelling?)
Here is my recommendation throughout the years in Crab house.
Appetizers:
Garlic fries with extra Garlic!
Crab cakes (they really filled up the inside)
Entrees:
Sizzling platter combination (shrimp/mussels/Crab)
Dungeons whole crab
It's funny that everytime the sizzling platter comes out I always get a lot of wohs woos from the people around us.
Give this restaurant a try!

I read all the review before coming here and I believe this place is overrated. Sizzling platters are a good show, but not that impressive for the price.
If you want better seafood, just go to the outside stands at fishermans wharf. Although a bit touristy, it gets the job done
Everytime I travel to the bay area, I make it a point to visit the Crab House.
Talk about finger-licking good crab ...
The Dungeness Killer Crab is extraordinary. I agree with Jonathan K. - $100 of crab legs never tasted so good. We went with 4 other family members, we devoured two orders of the Crab Feast!
I was with a friend wandering around Fisherman's Wharf with a friend and we were hungry for seafood. We saw Crab House and thought it was some sort of tourist trap but we went in anyway. Then how surprised we were when we found out it was super delicious! It's a bit pricey, but worth it for the best crab on the pier.
Our seat had a great view and we ordered a large portion of dungeness crab and the crab chowder (so awesome!!) for an appetizer. It was so delicious, eating the crab in our fancy Crab House bibs! The people next to us ordered the mussels which were sizzling as it passed us. If I ever get a chance to come here again I am definitely ordering that. Highly recommended if you love crab and are in the area!
$100 of crab legs never tasted so good. This place was absolutely great for crab (as it damn well should be), and without doubt my favorite place on the pier.
This is about the only restaurant I will eat at if I ever happen to be dragged to the Wharf. The view is pretty excellent; you can see the Bridge and watch the sunset (if there is one). The sourdough is tasty and I always get the crab enchiladas.
It's more like the Crap house then Crab House. as we come in we waited forever for the hostess, I been to enough restuarant to know that hostess are suppose to stand in the front lobby and greet customer. We would told that it would be 15minutes before our table is ready, we end up waited for over 30minutes.
now to the food and service.... if you like semi-warm and i mean semi-warm food this is the placed for you. we order our crab cake and 2 minutes later it come out. I always have a bad feeling when food come out fast, cuz two things will happen. (1) it's gonna be suck or/ (2) you gonna get food poison. I didn't get food poison, but my gf did, i just feel ycuky after we left this place. Hot tea's will help!!! the food was awful. It's seem like they prepare all the dishs in advance and microwave them. And now the services, man... that waitress is such a B%@^&#. She is not friendly at all, we waited and waited, so i finally call her over to have her take our order. She did not give us our bread, we have to ask. all the thing that she was suppose to do she let order all the bust-boy to do it for her. meanwhile, the waitress in the next section is so nice and friendly to her partron. we wish we were at her section, but we have to stick it out with this B*&@^.
IF YOU GONNA ORDER ANYTHING FROM THE MENU.... JUST ORDER ANYTHING THAT HAVE "SIZZLING" ON IT. THAT WAY AT LEAST YOUR FOOD WOULD BE HOT (NOT WARM). THE CRAB IS GOOD, BUT ITS NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN COOK AT HOME. JUST A LITTLE SCALLION, GINGER, BASIL, SALT AND PEPPER YOUr DATE, GF OR WIFE WILL BE impress AND MAYBE YOU GET SOMETHING, SOMETHING AFTER DINNER.... ^_^
GO TO NEPTUNE PALACE... THAT'S PLACE IS A LOT BETTER AND THE VIEW IS AMAZING TOO. OH!, AND THEIRS VALIDATION MACHINE WORKS. CRAP HOUSE VALIDATION MACHINE DID NOT WORK. YOU HAVE TO PAY AND THEN GO TO THE CASHIER AND GET A REFUND.
The Crab House rocked my SF trip. This place was ridiculously delicious. I made reservations not knowing if this place would be worth the trip, but it really made our second evening in San Francisco. When I called up a week earlier they were super friendly and said that they had a table for two right by the window and WOW.
The line for the restaurant looped around the pier and we sauntered in dressed to the nines and were quickly escorted to our table. Seriously this made our night. Watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean while sipping drinks and eating amazing shrimp, salad, and crab. It was amazing.
My girl had issues working the crab cracker doodad, so I did most the work, and in that I had the garliciest fingers this side of the Mississippi.
The service was great and the everyone seemed to be genuinely having a great time working there. The walls were decorated with crabs painted in all different colors.

Nice friendly restaurant with a wide choice. Obviously there's a lot of crab on the menu but they also have some chicken, beef and vegetarian options. The prices are a little on the high side, but it is in the tourist area so that's sort of to be expected.
On this visit I had the crab cakes to start, followed by the fish and chips (what a Brit I am). I have to say though that this was all put to shame by the huge crab salad that my girlfriend ordered. Next time I'll be ordering just the crab salad.
I love this place, it is a crab lovers dream. The crabs here are amazing, but that is the only good food there. Everything else is very simple, like burgers and fries. The crabs though are amazing.

Too bad this place is in Pier 39. I hate eating at a local touristy area. BUT... occassionally, I would put on a disguise and pray that no one I know would see me, and head up to the Crab House for The Killer Crab.
The Killer Crab is the house specialty. Cooked in some sort of garlic butter concoction, pieces of crab are served on a hot plate. Put a bib on and prepare to get absolutely messy. The crab is fresh, tender and after one bite, you will dig and dig to get every last piece out of the shells. It would be sinful to let any of the crab meat go to waste.
I love crab. I have ordered crab from everywhere. And this place, this place wins hands down for the tastiest crab on this planet.

What a great venue! My boyfriend got reservations here for our first anniversary dinner together, and we are both thankful he did. The walk-in wait time was over an hour when we arrived. We both love the buttery-garlic-y goodness of the crab. Their signature mojitos have left us craving them, and none have measured up to the crab house! This
Like Yuan said...the Killer Crab is excellent...finger licking good. I don't know how they do it but the crab shell is almost crispy. It's tastefully done with a garlic butter sauce that makes you want to nibble your fingertips. Seriously, it's the best crab I've ever had.

Without a doubt my favorite place to go and pig out whenever I'm in the Embarcadero area. This restaurant was featured on the Food Network, and for good reason. Any die-hard crab lover will die and go to crab heaven in this restaurant. I always have my own crab, and while it seems like a lot, it is never enough! The special garlic butter rub and sauce they use to cook these crabs is the BEST thing I've ever tasted. I highly recommend ordering a personal crab as well as an appetizer like the calamari or for a winter day, a great cup of crab chowder. Without a doubt, this place has been the host of a good majority of my family dinners and I will continue to come to this great find!
