Good hole-in-the-wall for blues (loud system), good selection of beer on tap. Nothing spectacular, it is what it is.
Let's take a look in the bathroom.
Well, it has a door that you can lock. But the patrons will bang on the door if they gotta go. If you don't lock it, you'll be standing in a room, next to some drunk guy, hoping not to get pissed on.
Go during a song. It's loud and most likely you'll have enough time to start the flow.
Pretty much a 50/50 case.
I came here expecting good blues music and that's what i got. It is a total hole in the wall place. Although, the cover charge was not $5 it was $15 which i thought was a bit much considering it was a tiny place. The food was terrible (GREASY!), it's definitely not a place to eat but just for casual drinks. I saw a glimpse of their KITCHEN and it was DISGUSTING. I give it 3 stars only because the music was great otherwise it gets a 1 star.

Sorry to all you Hollywood poseurs, but the best blues bar that is not located across from that "Southwestern"-style shit hole in Santa Monica called Border Grill, is Cozy's in Sherman Oaks. Always great blues, always.
We go rarely, but when we do, we're never disappointed. In fact, we should go a lot more. Tip: Go early and have dinner. Stake out a great seat near the stage, chow down on some pretty damn good bar food, and then watch the show. The waitresses are friendly, the urinals all work (last time I checked), and the music is loud and brooding and uniformly awesome.
We saw Jake LaBotz there once (raise your hand if you've ever heard of him). I highly recommend his CD. He's got a great Mississippi blues sound with a Robert Cray-type hook. What a fantastic show, and a very reasonable cover. A must-go.

I'm sure it's in the dictionary under "hole-in-the-wall".
I love live music! I went on a Monday night (10pm). $5 "cover" = a drink ticket for the bar which will get you as far as a bottled beer. The musicians varied since it was an open jam session after the house band played. Hit-or-miss performances, but overall enjoyable.
Good times. I'd go again.

I've never been here except to hear Eric Sardinas play. That said, this is the only club he seems to come to semi-regularly. And I've yet to see Eric play a show that failed to become one of those lose-yourself-in-the-sheer-ecstasy experiences that make all music-lovers fall in love with music. Because I can count on seeing that once or twice a year here, I give it 5 stars.
And yes, in reference to other reviews, there's nothing in Hollywood that holds a candle to Cozy's, at least where live blues is concerned.

I had the pleasure of going to Cozy's with a few ladies from work on a Tuesday evening and plan on going back next week. The music was great, there was a "Nu Jazz/R&B" singer who covered many popular songs on the radio and mixed in a few originals. Guest singers came up and blew everyone away.
The drinks were ok and reasonable. I thought the food was decent for a bar scene, but maybe that's just because we were starving! Not too much of a deal with the $5 cover, but if you have drink minimums, I don't see the need for a cover.
After 10PM, the place was packed, there were tons of cool people enjoying the music. Nice vibe at Cozy's, would definitely visit again.
Like an old shoe, Cozy's is comfy and unpretentious; it delivers, providing you and yours with a dependable, enjoyable evening out. It's got great live blues, a nice easy-street vibe, and the staff, low-key and friendly.
The food is what you'd expect, lots of fuel if you're looking for calories to burn, but the burgers are juicy and fries crispy. The pizza is not thick, not thin, but goes down fine with a cold pitcher of beer.
Bring plenty of quarters for one of the two pool tables in the back room. That's my favorite place to be, the music pours through and I always have a great time shootin' the shit with my Scottish bud and any just-in-town guests who could never imagine an evening like this in L.A.
Sometimes when you go out you don't want to remember the special effects or mind-blowing ride, you just want to have had a great time... that's what Cozy delivers, time and again.
The music is always memorable. In fact, I've been bunches of times and the bands always take me back to the mind-blowing ,real-deal blues bars back in New Orleans, the great ones that were nowhere near the French Quarter. Cozy's has been around for awhile and is a beacon for the better blues players from all over the country. I've been transported by some really inspired jams, where the vocalist rips it up and puts his heart out there, only to be picked up by the guitarist, then the bass, and brought back around by drums and a harmonica or sax. Sometimes these guys are so on, they're like Stevie Ray good.
I won't get into names of bands since you don't know the difference either. If you did you wouldn't be reading this review; you'd already know and better than me, right? Go any night. Shoot a little pool, have a burger and get juiced up enough to settle into the blues zone. That's the one for loaded passengers only.

Man I love Cozy's.....total hole in the wall but easily the best place for a blues show in Los Angeles. Cozy's was the one thing I missed after moving out of Sherman Oaks...ok, wait that and Carnival, and I guess the Studio City street fair/farmers market. Anyway, back to Cozy's! I seriously love this place. They never let me down. The waitstaff is always friendly, the clientele is always chill, friendly, and they all have one thing in common.....they all LOVE blues....so, how can you go wrong???? The open mic blues jam night has a house band that rocks my world, for real. I can't stress enough what a good time Cozy's is.
It is loud so I am not sure if it is the right place to go for good conversation...although there is a room in the back that has pool tables and has places to sit. They have some solid bar food type appetizers and your normal range of drinks. Parking is either in the alley behind the place (if you can find a spot) or street parking. Hint....you can park at the 24 hour Ralph's across the street but don't blame me if you get towed!!!!!!!! I love this place..........I miss being down the road from there. Check it out, you wont be disappointed. I wish LA had more blues clubs.
Hot sweaty blues in LA. Who the hell knew?
I first saw B.J. Sharp play here and couldn't believe that a little SFV hole in the wall could transform so effectively into the heart of Blues-ville. They seem to draw some great acts from all over and the small room makes for a great up close and personal experience. I had no idea geezer sitting next to me was Buddy Guy, that was until he decided to join in for a jam of his "I Got a Problem" Damn coolest thing that has ever happened to me while living in LA!
The bartender is cool, big giant man with a mean five count!
I can't recommend the food because I was too busy drinking.
A must stop for a real blues fix.

I went here with a friend because I wanted to hear some good blues.... and that's what I got. I attended Monday night's Pro Blues Jam, no cover, in which you get to check out t a great house band just playing away and then... get this... it's like an open mic night for anyone that just wants to play and jam with others. They got this one guy that jumped on the drums, a bassist, and singer/guitarist that just started playing. It was freaking awesome. It didn't looked like they knew each other but it's amazing when music just brings people together. I couldn't quite recommend the food because my friend ordered the potato skins and they were drenched in oil. You could literally squeeze it and the oil just dripped out. I asked the waitress to take it back and they were cool about it. They didn't charge us for it and comped us a drink. The crowd is above the 30 year old mark but I wish more younger people caught on to the Blues. Parking might be a tad difficult cause it's on Ventura and the neighborhood streets have restrictions but you can take your chance and try parking across the street at Ralph's. I parked right in the front spaces at Ralph's, walked in the store, and then walked out of the other exit. I figure they think that those that park far away from the store entrance are there for other reasons... good luck and enjoy. Oh... get there early because the place might get packed. I can't stress myself enough. This was on a Monday. I can't imagine what a Friday or a Saturday looks like. We got there around start time and there were barely a couple tables left and choose the tables toward the middle of the room. If you choose sitting at the tables, your left, stage right... it might start rubbing shoulders because of the barstools lined up along the walls just in case it gets packed.
