I could not adore this place more.
My boyfriend booked a weekend away as a surprise a few years back, and ever since then we've been back regularly. The cabins are cool during the summer, cozy during the winter, and relaxing and romantic. There's nothing better than returning from dinner, stoking up the fire or even jumping into the fireside hot tub (if you've pushed the boat out and gone for a 'spa' cabin).
Reasonably priced, near every dinner and breakfast hot spot and equipped with your very own outdoor porch - it's a perfect romantic getaway. We'll be back!
Very cute! The owner gentleman is so awesome. He loaned us his BBQ tools and wine glasses for the little romantic dinner we made in our room and on the grill (in the courtyard of the place). We were in Big Bear for a first time mountain biking weekend. He knew all about the trails and the lift. He was so friendly and informative. We loved our cute little porch and the cabin was so cute and cozy with cute little rustic furnishings and fabrics. I also thoroughly enjoyed the swing!
Great location. Close to everything.
Only semi-bad aspect was that it is directly on the main road through big bear and the noise is not very conducive to romance or rural living. Ask for a cabin that is furthest from the road or one that has a porch facing away from the road.
Highly recommended!!
After searching for an authentic campsite, I decided on Cozy Hollow Lodge. Owner Richard and his wife were very friendly, they even suggested a great place for breakfast. The room was spacious and "cozy." The privacy of having a single standing cabin was wonderful. I never consider watching TV while camping, but being that the 08 Olympics are on, the cable television was a plus. Oh, the outdoor porch equipped with chairs and a table was really enjoyable.
The reason I placed 4 stars and not 5 was because the rooms are close to the highway, and there wasn't any outdoor fire-pit, although that is common with most places in Big Bear.
After reading a review on Trip Advisor, I was hesitant to book my stay here. But seeing as I was booking last minute and the rest of the mountain was already full on account of the film festival -- the reason for my trip -- I decided to take a chance. Expedia got me a decent rate (I believe it was $111 for a Saturday night), and away I went.
Before I even saw the place, I noticed the playground as I drove by and thought, man, I want to play on that! When I checked in and realized it was my hotel, I was bummed to find that the playground was for 12 and under. Isn't that discrimination?
The staff was exceptionally friendly, giving me alternate travel directions over the phone when the main route was closed due to fires, and offering several breakfast suggestions for the following day. I nearly cracked up at the pattern on my bedspread -- very '60s den upholstery, complete with deer -- but the rest of the room was more than sufficient for the price. Having my very own cabin seemed luxurious compared to being in a hotel, and the place was clean -- a huge plus. You're only a quarter mile from town, so you can walk, if you like, and in the other direction, the alpine slide is just a trot down the hill.
Minus a star for not allowing me on the playground and for the lack of shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom. Who doesn't offer those? Oh, and the driveway near cabin 12 needs repaving. My car bottomed out with an awful scraping sound that made me cringe.
