I'm only giving this place 4 stars because I've only tried it as delivery. When I actually sit in the restaurant and try the food, I'll re-evaluate my review.

Greg and I decided we wanted to try and have something healthy for dinner and I've heard good things about this place. So, since they deliver, we decided to try it. Greg ordered the grilled chicken salad and it was beautiful AND delicious! Tons of fresh veggies, bright greens and yummy grilled chicken. My salad was amazing!! I had the grilled chicken CHOPPED salad. Came with bacon, avocado, apples, and tons of other veggies. It was SO good!! I stuffed myself silly on it!

Now, I can't wait to go to the restaurant and actually try some other things.

We had dinner elsewhere, but ended up here for drinks in the "living room" space in the back.  It literally felt like we were sitting in someone's basement den, by the fireplace (saddly it didn't work).  Unfortunately, it was someone who had pretty bad taste in decor.  It was like a lodge-gone-bad.

Oh Cowgirls - why did you have to ruin the W. Village for me?

Good food, must try their Frito-Pie! Probably the best chicken fried steak I've had in NYC.

Casual and fun atmosphere.

We made reservations here on a Saturday night because I was looking for a place to entertain my visiting relative and her 7-year-old daughter.  I was looking for somewhere fun and kid-appropriate, but also with good food where everyone could find something they enjoyed.  Cowgirl fit the bill on all of these things - they were great with kids and the food hit the spot -- we recommend the chicken & portobello fajitas!  We didn't try the Frito Pie but it looked white-trash-tastic!

If fried foods are your weakness and you're craving a Fritos pie, look no further than this festive, cheesy, trailer park-chic bar and restaurant. Fill up on margs served in mason jars, chips and hearty black-eyed-pea salsa which is a great start to any meal.

Definitely a go-to place for happy hour and indulging in creative and yummy artery-clogging food.

Tiempo divertido y delicioso, siempre! I love the cowgirl/southern wall decor that some may find overwhelming. Margaritas do their job in taste and buzzing effect. Black-eyed pea salsa - holy cow-girl! Favorites: chopped salad with chicken and bacon (and assortment of avocado, apple, pecans and more) dressed with a slightly sweet lemon poppy mix; roasted garlic head with cheese; and cajun fried shrimp poppers. Otherwise, I personally can only handle so much fried food. Great for groups.

Cowgirl has a fun and festive atmosphere that keeps me coming back. The food? It's good. Not great. The cornbread is disappointing -- definitely skip it. I've had the pulled pork and bbq beef sandwiches and both are decent but not particularly memorable. On my most recent trip, I tried the blackened catfish salad which was very good. I have a hard time coming to terms with paying $14 for a salad, but that's NY for you. The service is spotty. The waitstaff is really friendly but it took way too long to get our check the last time I was there.

I would recommend Cowgirl if you're looking for a fun place to go for happy hour drinks, but I think I'd wander over to one of the other neighborhood restaurants when you're ready for dinner.

So I did go back, after being semi stranded, the first choices not seeming at all appealing. Plus others who have gone here and had good times, wanted a repeat.

I had the BBQ brisket sandwich, and though it claimed to be smothered in BBQ sauce (which was thin and vinegary), it was on the side in a shot sized cup. Which is ok because I got to add what I wanted and the bun survived the trip (the trip to my mouth, repeatedly that is). The fries were yummy/crispy also. The food was so much that I ate myself sick that night and  the next day when I had the remains for lunch. So really, it should have been 3 human sized meals.

I turned down the chips and beans originally, because I am an idiot.  Well ok I turned them down because they came 10 minutes after sitting, and I thought they were another table's appetizer.

The waiter though...well hence  the 3 stars. A little (ok a lot) too hyper for my tastes. Not even that "hey we're best buddies" or "holy crap I am so happy you complete strangers are my customers tonight!" attitude you get at TGIF. Not even a purposeful mockery of that, which people like me who point that out, like I just did, do. I told him I would "let him know" about a drink, he goes on about it, even tells the story out loud to a fellow waiter, who didn't give much of a fcuk. Haha, ok, sure yeah that was me.

The same schtick did not go over well with other tables, especially two over where one girl was giggling over every one of his crazy antics and answers, while the other one was clearly offended, and frowned the entire time.

By the end we are waiting for the check and notice him running- hopping-skipping down the block, beyond the borders of the store. He continued to skip around and finally got us our check.

Good food, but the entertainment at jeckyll and hyde is less annoying.

I'll give it that one extra star to 4, because we went here a while back and manager scratched out the name ahead of us, because the crowds waiting outside and way off to the side of the restaurant were ignoring his hostesses' 'table ready' calls, and sat us down to spite them.

Oh wait I mentioned that already! hahah! It was THAT good a moment.

Fine, I'll continue.

Chips with bean dip salsa...need I say more?
whatever, I'll continue.

Chilidogs and tatertots, Holy Explosion in my mouth!!! The dog was delicious but the chili was unbelievable!!  HUGE pieces of meat in the chili.  Plus, I love cowgirls!

Pretty attentive waitstaff, although he screwed up on the bill.

One star off for "just okay" guacamole.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this place. As a Texas native, there was something very charming and accurate about the way that this place presented itself (because believe it or not, the 'state fair' aesthetic cowgirl's has going on is MUCH more authentic and accurate than the illusion that we all grew up on a ranch and ride horses to school...) There was something charming and nostalgic about the presentation; margaritas served in jars, with a rifle plastic swirly stick and a little miniature red cow... the menu certainly reminded me of my childhood, between chili and friend corn-dogs...

But in the end, all of this decorative effort may have built up my expectations too far. The food was mediocre; an impersonator's attempt at home-cooked chili. It made me miss home, but for all the wrong reasons.

I'd say in the end perhaps this is a better place to drink than to dine in.

This place has never dropped in quality since opening.  Frozen margaritas are the best in town and chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak are perfect.

The bean salsa is a fantastic start to any meal.

I don't care for the Mex part of their Tex-Mex with so many great Mexican restaurants around, so I stick to the North of the border dishes.

Great bartenders. Great place for brunch. Go!

Although the food is decent enough, the online menu and menupages menu pricing has finally gotten to me.

Please don't make me think I'm ordering something to be delivered that is going to cost me $10.00 to have the delivery boy standing at the door, and for the cost of the item to have went up to $14.00....Cowgirl!!!!!  That's a 40% price increase!  Shame, shame, shame!  If your too lazy to update your very own site with new pricing (after 6 months, mind you...), when a complaining customer calls, you should honor the website pricing!

I had a boss who only ate at three establishments in the area. Cowgirl was in said rotation. To protect the innocent, I won't reveal the other two. Unfortunately, he has since been laid off. Fortunately, that lets me off the hook for any future ventures here.

New York may be a lot of things, but it's not tacky deep-fried dining. Hogs and Heifers is more respectable as a Southern establishment than Cowgirl. And they have used bras hanging over the bar.

Their Chicken Fried Chicken seems to be the popular recommendation, but it's no better than any breaded cutlet I've cooked in my kitchen skillet. Cost is what it is - just because this is Southern fare, this is still the West Village, so don't expect Southern prices. The servers are as lifeless as the mannequins in the front window. Frankly, hearty portions and their margaritas are the only bright spots to save this review. Giddy up elsewhere.

Good place in the neighborhood to get a filling meal and friendly service. (So many trendy restaurants around this area.) The food's pretty good too! I love the marguarita's and also the chips and black-eyed peas salsa. We have started coming to Cowgirl instead of the nearby Benny's Burrito.

Food was a bit greasy but creative (liked the chili in the frito bag). Overall, kind of a cool kitchy place to stumble into in the later hours of the night.  Good, cheap beer. Probably not a place I would actively seek out to eat, but a nice fall back option.

I have a niece.  She's 15.  She's visiting me for the weekend.  Where oh where do I take a 15 year old that isn't a tourist trap, has food she will enjoy, and an environment that doesn't spell sex or bar scene?  Hhmm....oh I know...Cowgirl!

This is the first time I've been to this joint.  First off, I enjoyed the black-eyed pea "dip" (or is it a salsa?) that came with the chips.  It was not the usual boring salsa, so that was a nice change.  I ordered a mango margarita and it was quite tasty.

We ordered chicken quesadillas as an appetizer.  Delicious!  Spot on.  We both thought the slight touch of tomato sauce added full flavor to the quesadilla (her father is a chef so she has a bit of an "eye" for taste and flavor combinations/creations).

Onto the entrees...or so we thought.  Other diners seated after us were getting their main courses before us.  Hhhmm...here comes the waiter.  "How much longer until our entrees arrive?"  He runs away to check only to hustle back with a sincere apology...the order got lost.  The next drinks are on the house.  Ok, fair deal.  It's not like we had anywhere to run to after the meal anyway.

When our food finally comes, holy cow batman, talk about gigantized portions!  My niece ordered the pork chops...they were deliciously seasoned and not overcooked to an unchewable texture.  Very good.  I ordered the ribs.  They were ok.  The pork chops were hands down the most delicious of all the foods.  If you are a veggie person like me, go for the collard greens...fantastic flavoring.

Overall, if you have nieces and nephews, this is the perfect place to take family.  Large portions, food that everyone will enjoy and a lively atmosphere.

Three stars because of the lost order and the less than average ribs.

Large Yummy Bloody Marys that are worth going back for.
Amazing margaritas.  Different flavors (i had mango) are an option and all are little jars of foamy deliciousness.
My dorky side loved the little bulls, rifle, and barbed wire additions added to the drinks to keep the theme going.
The side o beans with the chips were even better than the guac.

The service was fine ... but I'd go back for the drinks and the nice street tables with decent people watching.

I came here on an extremely sunny Sunday few weeks back during a time where Sun and no-rain actually existed... with a few girlfriends and even better conversations.

Cute spot for brunch and I especially liked the woodsey tall booths.  The food as I had remembered was decent, nothing to complain about OR be considered memorable I would say.  When you sit infront of your macbook 3 weeks late of writing this review and can't remember even ONE thing that was ordered... it can be classified as memorable.

My review isn't doing this restaurant justice, so I will return here before Labor Day and review again.

Oh! I did remember getting the steak and eggs, which were EHH.  Should have went with gumbo.

I can only review CHF for their weekend brunch because I've been there only for brunch...

...three or four times

...a month

...for the better part of ten years.

Since I don't live in the area anymore, I make sure I go every chance I get to visit. It's a tradition with some of my friends that I am more than happy to perpetuate.

Their food is reliable and very tasty. Their biscuits with sausage gravy are great....with two over medium eggs on top, they are even better. Of course it's not very pleasant for the people who watch me eating this yellow and white and brown, chunky gruel (you have to cut the eggs up and swirl everything together as you eat it) but who cares? They can look elsewhere. O course, my moaning and groaning eating sounds keep them looking in my direction. Fools!

I believe I've had everything breakfast-like in their menu and it's all good and very reasonably priced. I've never had their sandwiches or salads, but I have had their chicken fried steak/chicken and its' great and their Frito® Pie which is not so great. But don't take my word for that because I discovered I simply don't like Frito®s.

I usually don't have dessert with brunch, but I do have frozen margaritas in the summer and bloody marys in the winter and both are good here. Once, I had their self-proclaimed famous baked potato ice cream sundae and while it looked very cute and clever, the ice cream was not very good. Live and learn.

I am a fan of this place because it's reliable, convenient, a good value and the atmosphere and service are friendly.

Let me preface this by saying I'm going to have to come back and update my review once I actually eat here...

Today I walked by around 1pm and saw the Brunch menu posted outside which said it was from 10-4pm and it didn't specify that it was weekends only so I decided to give it a try. I was given a seat and a lunch menu but no brunch menu. I sat waiting to inquire about this for about 15 minutes without as much as the waiter taking my order, giving me water, or even looking at me. After about 15-20min I just got up and left...horrible service!

I will give them the benefit of the doubt and try one more time but they'll never get 5 stars after this incident!

I was eating here with a party of nine when the helicopter and plane crashed in the Hudson River.  Everyone said they liked their food.  The grits were thick like mashed potatoes and the biscuits were a big hit.  My pulled pork sandwich was good, but the bbq sauce was more sweet than vinegary.  Service was prompt and friendly, even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon.

BTW, Frito Pie should never cost more than a few dollars.

I like the theme of this pace, hokey, somewhat comfortable when not too crowded. The food is good but nothing to gush over but I'll give special props to their chipotle mayo.  Do NOT have the gumbo, especially if like me you're from the deep south and know what real gumbo is. What promised to be a chicken and andouille gumbo was, well was NOT. I still have no ides what that cup of mess was but it tasted like something you'd get down in the Caribbean .

The waitress was really a sweetheart but not so attentive; As with my first visit here, we had to wait and wait........and wait for refills and the check.  Reading many of the reviews here, the service at this place seems to suffer on a daily basis.

A good stop if you're in the mood for something different and with a down home taste. If you're used to better service and have a pallet for genuine Texas cuisine, not so much.

The nachos were really good. But, you can't really judge a place on nachos, can you? I think not. The mini cheeseburger sliders on the other hand, were exceptionally amazing, thus warranting the alloted three stars. The sliders were the largest sliders I've never seen, a few millimeters larger and they would've been regular burger size. The potato buns were soft, fluffy with a nice layer of molten American cheese. We opted for a medium rare cook and that's exactly what we received, yum. Sliced dill pickles were on the side, to add at your discretion as was the ketchup and mustard. Every bite was juicy and contained the perfect percentage of cheese, meat, ketchup and bun. Wow, I wish I could teleport back to the moment of my first bite and eat the whole slider again.

The only thing missing here is a life sized replica of Jessie the Cowgirl from Toy Story. Cowgirl Hall of Fame is an interesting cowgirl themed restaurant/bar out of place in Greenwich Village. It's over the top western but seems to be confused between being a family friendly joint and bar.

I've always walked by but never walked in. The place always peaked my curiosity though. It looked fun and lively. As far as the menu goes, they've got every type of comfort food you could possibly want. I went for brunch and while their pancakes are no Clinton Street Bakery, they are pretty good. Fluffy and buttery, nonetheless. My dish was actually the chicken fried steak. I have no complaints but I don't think it was the best chicken fried steak I have ever had. The batter was amazing. Light and crispy. The chicken fried steak was accompanied by mashed potatoes, white gravy, and grilled asparagus. It was a well rounded meal. My friend who has been there before said their mac n cheese is just okay and we noticed that his sausage patties were a bit tough. I don't know why that was. Perhaps it was old or microwaved? I have no idea.

I was diggin the antler chandelier because I have a thing for light fixtures and the chips and black eyed peas salsa was amazing. The whole place had me jonesing for Claim Jumpers and Chevy's. What can I say? Sometimes those chain restaurants are really better.

Casual, laid back, fun and comfort is what you are going to find at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. Just don't expect gourmet fare. Service is good though!

PROS: Fun ambiance, really friendly staff, good 'southern-style' food.

CONS: Food labeled as 'salsa' or 'cajun' should be spicier. To be more 'southern' they should serve cornbread or rolls with the meal and they should add fried okra to the menu.

OVERALL: Great food, lotsa fun. Although you can get similar food in the south, the restaurants there don't have the same attitude.  I definitely recommend it.

although i don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times i've been to cowgirl, a group of us went here yesterday to celebrate one of my (new) favorite times of the year - pride! never mind that their all-chopped-up salad once gave me food poisoning...

i've never been here when it's been filled to the brim with gorgeous gay men ... we literally waited an hour for a table outside and totally took advantage of it by staying for four more. we had the best people-watching table in the house that faced the street - too bad my lovely boys relegated me to the seat with my back facing all the action since i had zero game.

i can tell that there was some food (with a special, yet streamlined pride menu) but, most importantly, there were margaritas. glasses and glasses of 'em on the rocks that kept on coming in yummy flavors like mango and pear. and when things turned a bit fuzzy, there were still many, many more. man, i wish i could go through life feeling like that ... things would be all the more happier.

such a lovely day - our adorable waitress was decked-out in her rainbow fairy garb and glitter, everyone was in such great spirits and there was a great breeze that cooled our table just like god and the gays intended. i honestly didn't want it to end, but i'm happy to re-live the memory by writing about it to this fine yelp community.

i seriously think pride's better than christmas ... ya know, i've walked by it and seen it from afar but i can't believe i've been missing out all these years by not actually celebrating it.

yay, we're queer and we're here!

I went looking for Mexican and like often happens in the west village I got lost.  I had read about a "cowgirl" annex opening up so I was excited about trying the original.  One of my favorite things in the summer is outdoor seating wine. Lucky for me this place had both. I started with a mason jar full of sangria and we got the smoked garlic for an app. It was as delicious as it sounds and later we did not reek of garlic. How? Not sure but I give the credit to the Sangria.   The Food comes in large portions and the menu has a fantastic southern flair. I cant wait to go back again.

The name says it all - Cowgirl Hall of Fame. This place is a celebration of the Western woman accompanied by Tex-Mex/Southern food. The general decor is worth a peek. I don't think I've ever seen so many doodads and knickknacks.

Dieters should forget about it. There will be no eatin' like a lady in this joint. I recommend the nachos and the fried chicken.

Came here for the thanksgiving meal for $42 I got:

appetizer- deviled jalapeno eggs (yum!) and toasty bread with cheese (ok)
soup- portabello onion soup with toasty bread (ok)
salad with goat cheese and beets
main entree turkey breast with mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and kale
dessert- applesauce carrot cake

In the end I was WAAAAY full. The food was good but nothing memorable I would say. The dutch apple pie was actually served cold which I didnt like. The applesauce carrot cake was different but good. The turkey was like any other turkey i have had homemade or not.

I had red and white wine and both were great. The selection of wine was mostly from California.

The place was very interestingly decorated and had several rooms. The diner area, the bar area and a back room that looked cozy. The wall was decorated with western things and signed photographs of country stars.

This place was pretty awesome!

One the place is so cute a bar on one side and restaurant on the other, with a large outside seating area. Food wise there even better, this place had the best sweet potato fries, out side of street fairs.

I got the pulled pork, it was so good, and a huge size, more enough to take home. My friend had the Cowgirl cheeseburger, and she loved it. Even there collard greens were good, like soul food good. The mac and cheese wasn't the best, i would pass on it. But everything else was great.

Def try the dessert (if ya have room) the Cowboy baked potato was so cute, and yummy, the root beer float can be a little messy, but my friend like it.

The was really good also, out waitress, Jenika,(short, with a short blond haircut) was a sweetheart, if you go there tip her well!

Now will the real Cowgirl stand up!....

I am reviewing this rootin' tootin' place for their brunch/breakfast. I have personally never ate Lunch or Dinner here but I have heard semi good reviews!

I gave it 3 stars (A- Ok) because I feel exactly that. I'm not a FAN of this place, but I do think it was A-Ok and I did enjoy my meal. I came here for Brunch with about 8 girlfriends and they were pretty packed but seated us as soon as all my party arrived. Out waiter was a Cowgirl diva, and I love him! (lol)

They have pretty good breakfast skillets here and I did enjoy the yummy cheese grits that came with my Brunch. Wasn't a huge fan of the biscuits for they were a bit dry & hard. Over-all honestly.. I did enjoy my meal and time with the girls at Brunch here, it's just not my favorite breakfast spot.
;o)

Just glancing at the photo of the margarita, I had a tiny flashback to my cow-shaped plastic stirrer 'galloping' across the checkered tablecloth while I hooted aloud.

Clearly, plastered.

It started in the adjoining bar, where we were waiting for a table to open up. Round one of drinks began. They were mighty tasty - and after a couple more rounds, I "gracefully" sashayed over to the bartender to say so. Unforch for her, I was intercepted by the waitress who let us know that our table was finally ready.

Point is: it took a wee bit to get a table.

We plopped down to eat and chatter - and overall I liked the place. The restaurant/bar was cute - loved the theme and the coziness of it. I definitely enjoyed the drinks (and obviously the aforementioned plastic stirrers which accompanied them). The dinner (chicken for me, pulled pork for some friends) was alright. The servings were HUGE though, and whatever room was left over allowed for the relocation of more of the fabulous beverages - which as I vaguely remember, were pretty darn cheap and therefore, awesome.

Some of the worst food in the city.  An overpriced, overblown cafeteria with enormous prices and cafeteria food.  A catfish sandwich is MERELY JUST THE CORNMEAL CRUST! There wasn't even any fish in my sandwich.  For $10, it's a bargain!  I'm sure there are better places to go for this type of BBQ food, but they're not on the level of even a Heartland Brewery in Union Sq.  No manners, no quality, no taste...no thanks.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Hell to the yes on the chicken fried chicken!

For folks seeking comfort food (hell mashed potatoes and gravy!) in the West Village, look no further.
