I die for the All Chopped Up Salad. Delightful bowl of goodness with chicken, avocado, BACON, Granny Smith apples, some cheese and some kind of poppyseed PINK dressing. I truly love it and it's basically all I ever order. I'm not crazy about the black eyed pea salsa, but they didn't always offer it for free, so it's nice that they do now. I wish they'd just hit me up with some nice tomato salsa...or queso. :)

I've been known to do a bit of day drinking at Cowgirl when the winter and snow are terrible and I'm wishing that I was back home in my native Texas where folks think that 60 degrees is a cold day. So I saunter over to my Cowgirl for a prickly pear mason jar margarita with a little longhorn perched on the straw. Very cute and sneakily intoxicating. I sit in a window seat and pity the poor schmucks who are slippin' around in the snow...sippin' on my marg. Sigh...

Brunch on New Years Day is so important.  Its 1pm, you need a cure for your massive hangover.  And whatever restaurant you choose, you hope and pray it hits the spot and cures your ailments.  Cowgirl heard me hollerin' and came a runnin' with grits, steak, eggs, orange juice, chips, and bean salsa.

I have to say that the food is really good here for breakfast/brunch.  I had the steak and eggs, and can't tell you how amazing the grits are.  Some of us took our buttermilk biscuits (which are also awesome) and spread the cheesy grits over them like a spread... yum.  A friend next to me had the Chicken fried Chicken with gravy... also looked so good and cured him as well.

The wait staff was really nice.  I kept giving hell (sarcastically) to my waitress for allowing my friends to order grapefruit and vodka drinks at 1pm after New Years... they make poor choices haha so I said its the waitresses duty to protect the customers from ourselves.

I'll definitely be coming back here.  If not for the food, for the amazing decor, which includes lots of pictures of cowgirls and a chandelier of deer antlers, and also a cool little store with rock candy and other collectibles that seemed to have come right out of any western convenience store.

I have passed by here dozens of times and always said "Oh my gosh, I would love to try this place!"  Well, I finally broke through the inertia and went.

The word "cowgirl" automatically gets props with me because of the reputation of Cowgirl Creamery in my old stomping grounds, San Francisco.  Sadly, the Hall of Fame, while kitschy and cute, is relying far too much on strong drinks to make its patrons happy and doesn't do much to help the cowgirl name.  I'm a native North Dakotan and have learned that you don't make a cowgirl look bad - she'll come find you!

After two very strong, and very tasty, margaritas from a friendly bartender, it was time to get our table.  Apparently the host staff forgot that I checked in with them, and seated two tables who were much farther down the list then we were.  They were thoroughly embarrassed and apologetic (except for the a-hole who actually made the mistake - he didn't care) when we pointed out the issue to them, and made up for it by getting us to a table fairly quickly.

Our server was rushed, and while she indulged us in polite conversation, she was ready to be somewhere else, and didn't have the patience for me to try to remember what kind of tequila I'd been having in my margarita so that I could have another - she gave me her recommended one.  And while I appreciated the recommendation, it just wasn't as good. 'Twas kind of a bummer.

I had the All Chopped Up salad with chicken and bacon (and I *never* eat bacon), and it is the reason there are 2 stars here instead of one.  It was very good (if overdressed).  My friend had the chicken chamayo salad (also overdressed), which tasted pretty good to me, too.

However, the highlight of the meal - and of being here in general - was the other people around us.  The best part was meeting the couple who was sitting at the table next to us; D and R have been together 42 years, and were finally able to get married this year (thank you, New York).

And that's what makes this cowgirl proud.  Ha.

I used to go to the other location in New Mexico (in my old days of travelling).  And it was a treat to learn there was a 2nd location in NY.  I call this my escape from the hustle and bustle of the city - as the shabby chic decor and comfy interior, cozy spots, and country music are a nice relief during busy NY trips.

The staff is always friendly, as well as their regular customers.   I'd be giddy if Cowgirl also put a location in Minneapolis, but alas it'll have to be NY for the time being.  (I'm totally okay with that) :)

This would have been a total bust if not for the really adorable waiters and the decent margaritas.

I had macaroni and cheese and some special of brussels sprouts. The sprouts weren't cooked well and lime and brussels sprouts were never meant to go together. The macaroni and cheese was pretty flavorless, as well. I probably should have gotten something un-screw-up-able like a quesadilla, but they billed themselves as a southern resturant, so I thought they might have good mac and cheese. I was wrong, OK!

4 Stars for the Sangria and Margaritas
3 Stars for the service (it's not great but it's not awful)
    1 Star for food
So score is 2.6 stars but I rounded up to 3!

The food is uninspired and lacks in any real kick, food ordered for delivery is even more 'blah'.

Popular lunch spot in the area.

Pretty lackluster experience all around. Slow service, dry as chalk turkey burger, poor plating (side salad 4 inches high on a tiny flat dessert plate?)... just very "blah". I could have understood if it were just that I tried to order something healthier when the place is known for good ol' Texan recipes like chicken fried steak - but plenty of others in our party of 8 ordered the traditional deep fried fare, and I didn't hear a single one rave about their food. Oh, and they charge you $2.50 to substitute a salad for your fries - come on!

The only thing I'll give them is their Southern style white gravy. THAT was delicious! I get the idea that lunch just isn't their specialty, so you're probably better off coming here for some comfort brunch food after a night of drinking than for a workweek lunch hour.

This is my fav restaurant in NYC. Excellent food, drinks, and great atmosphere. I highly recommend the buffalo chicken burger. Weekend brunch is also tasty - and the candy store? Why what more does a girl need? I've been there twice with a big group and they were more than accommodating.

The only negative point is the waitstaff which can sometimes be slow and forgetful. It's happened more than once here. I think they're just really busy.

Love this place.  Been here like 5 times in the last month.  To be honest though it is best to come bw 3&6 during happy hour if you want to drink. Margs are $10 and up normally and they are 1/2  price during happy hour. The prickly pear is amazing.  The chips and salsa are great...instead of the traditional they do a black eyed pea formulation.  The corndogs are great.  Its really all about the Kitsch.  I also love the rattlesnake poppers which are grilled shrimp in a jalapeño wrapped in bacon.  How can u get anymore Texas than that?  They also have s'mores.  The main courses are great and you get a  LOT of FOOD!
I would defiantly recommend a stop by esp. if you are from Texas.

I've been to Cowgirl's many, many times (though, not lately) to have brunch with two girlfriends that live in the area. It's one of those places that appeals to the same folks that clamor to stand around for Magnolia's cupcakes. This isn't a bad thing and I'm not being judgmental... I don't think that I am cooler or hipper than anyone else. :)

But, I guess, going to a restaurant with too many gimmicks is like eating too much candy. You enjoy it for a while and then you realize you're kind of over it and you don't feel too good and want to throw up. Okay, Cowgirls doesn't make me want to throw up--but it is still an overload of cuteness with the rowdy birthday songs and the decor and the overly perky waitresses, etc.

Now as for the food-- it's good, standard brunch food. Very tasty but very heavy and cooked with lots of butter. One major standout-- the GRITS!

I recently went to another restaurant for breakfast and I ordered grits. When it arrived, I took one bite and wondered what on Earth made me think that I liked grits! I've remembered that I had them at Cowgirl's where the grits are somehow luxurious and full of flavor and so yummy. The strawberry lemonade is also delicious. And those biscuits... heaven.

So maybe this is a cute place with good food and I am just kind of being stingy with the stars? But, nah. Three stars is accurate.

The next time I'm in need of a cure-all for Texan homesickness, I'm heading to Cowgirl. It's the first time since I moved to NYC that I saw chicken fried steak on a menu. Sure, my non-Texan friends laugh and ask me what kind of meat it is and how exactly one "chicken fries" something. But it's a deliciously sinful and sinfully delicious throw-back to my more carefree (and admittedly fatter) days in the South.

That said, when I visited Cowgirl last week, I was feeling plump from back-to-back birthday celebrations and decided to try to be "good" by getting the grilled chicken with pineapple. It was delicious! But I kept kicking myself for not splurging on something deep-fried.

We got a pitcher of margaritas for the table. They were good and packed a solid punch, but were nothing to write home about. We left drunk, if that means anything to you.

Our waitress was fantastic and for that I give this place 4 stars instead of 3. I'm sure I'll be back!

My good friend Lubna is a vegetarian. I, on the other hand, consider myself very carnivorous. And we stumbled across this spot while aimlessly walking through West Village with hungry stomachs.

From a distance we spotted their outdoor seating, Sierra Nevada umbrellas over the tables, and people; at least enough of them in attendance to let you know that this place is A-OK!  So we ran over to check it out.

I also have puppy-dog fever right now and there were lots of those sitting at the feet of their owners..............or if you were the lady next to me, I guess they can even sit ON the table if they are tiny. Odd.

The bar inside is big, long, western themed (not Texas themed though.....I'm from there. This was more like a tribute to Oklahoma), and they have some intriguing drink selections.

I'm typically not a fan of Bloody Marys, but Bess convinced me to try it. Delicious! So good, in fact, it may have swayed me into considereing one next time I brunch. Not to mention they were SO big that it lasted at the bar, until we got seated outside, and about 20 minutes AFTER they took our meals away.

They make about 10 different dishes, 10 different ways very well with some additional specialty items like chicken fried steak or fried catfish fingers.

What I mean by the "10 dishes, 10 ways" bit is that you might notice the menu listing vegetable-enchiladas, vegetable-quesadillas, vegetable-nachos, vegetable-fajitas, etc. I mean, it's all the same stuff prepared and presented diversely. But I stress, it's all really good! And you might have noticed by now, they have some substantial vegetarian options.

My friend ordered the shrimp quesadilla and I ordered the shrimp nachos. Delicious, more than enough to share, and they put huge, plump JALAPENOS all over them! Finally. I didn't have to ask!

I just wish I had known that they give out free chips and black-eyed-pea salsa before I'd ordered. What a surprise in NYC to get a teaser for free! FREE! That IS the southern way, I suppose.

Returned to Cowgirl today and discovered a secret: you can order at the bar and sit at one of a few small tables in the front of the restaurant.  For the first time here, the service was EXCELLENT (probably because I was able to approach the bartender whenever I needed, rather than wait for the super-slow waiters to come to me).  My food arrived fast & hot, I got frequent coffee refills, and left completely satisfied.

Bonus tip: at brunch, ask for a Bloody Maria instead of a regular Bloody Mary.  The charming bartender, Fernando, makes it thick, spicy and delicious with Sauza Silver Tequila -- ridiculously good.

I came here with colleagues for our manager's dinner after the Book Expo. Having spent all day at Javits, I was looking forward to a meal that didn't come from the ever-so-disgusting Mendy's.

I was really happy with the volume of vegetarian options on the menu here. I had a cup of veggie chili to start, and then vegetable enchiladas. I loved that they used fresh veggies, including zucchini and peppers. To drink, I had a frozen margarita, which was perfectly strong and smooth.

I also loved the black-eyed pea salsa. I am a fan of lentil salsa, and this had a similar taste and texture. Great flavor.

My only complaint is that our waitress was really inappropriate and poorly mannered. She yelled at one of my colleagues and wagged her finger in his face, because he asked if there was a fresh vegetable that he could get instead of creamed spinach with his steak. I was appalled, and surprised that he didn't ask to see the manager.

I grabbed some margaritas on Saturday just before happy hour ended (6pm) and had the best time relaxing at an outside table.

Cowgirl has such a fun summer vibe -- the interior is filled with fun tex-mex memorabilia.  They also have a cute candy counter filled with nostalgic options.

I was impressed with the friendly staff. They let us order drinks at the bar just before happy hour ended while we waited for a table to open up outside. We double fisted and carried them out to the patio after a short wait with no hassle. We were immediately served waters and chips with a yummy black-eyed-pea based salsa.

The frozen mango margaritas are amazing - made with real mango puree. I could taste little bits of fruit. At $5 during happy hour, they are a great deal. They're also really strong...I felt a major buzz on just one. I was done after two :)

We split chicken nachos which were made with tender pulled chicken, chips, shredded melted cheese, jalapenos, pico, black beans, sour cream. It was a huge portion, enough for two to stuff their faces.

Went at least 1 year ago.
Sat indoors as it seemed to rain soon--and did. I remember nothing on the menu appeased me but the blueberry peach cobbler. Was over $6 if i remember correctly! I also remember expressing my dislike of it just as the couple beside me expressed their dislike of their meal. I also remember that I waited over 15 mins for the check before I said "F---k it!" and went over to the bar to pay--sans tip, of course. Shoud've just walked through the door. The chatty waitress would've been none the wiser.

Not a Cowgirl fan, folks.   Their decor is cute & the staff is friendly, but their food is some of the worst that I've ever had - it was just very flavorless and dry.   I ordered the Tito's Chicken and it sounded really appealing (fried chicken stuffed with mushrooms, spinach and mozzarella cheese), but all the different ingredients did absolutely nada for the dish itself and it was a $15 plate.   My friend ordered fried chicken and it was suoer-dry, he kept throwing it together with condiments, but he said that nothing helped the bland flavor.

Their way of singing happy birthday is very .. Different.  They will come out with a cake slice (loaded potato) banging on a triangle and disrupt every table asking "is it YOUR birthday?!" before thy erupt into the loudest and most energy-packed birthday song.   This was definitely a comical highlight of the evening, but isnt enough to draw my return.

Great happy hour, decent food, interesting decor, and an excellent outdoor patio when the weather is right. Sometimes you can even score a box of girl scout cookies for $5.  A couple drinks and a box of thin mints later and you got yourself a one way ticket on the nostalgia train.  Yee haw.

For some reason I always call this place the Cowgirl Cafe.  Then I check in on Yelp and remember it's actually the "Hall of Fame".  At the point I usually ask myself why cute waitresses aren't dressed in cowgirl outfits and using embellished Texas outfits.  Then I remember it's the West Village and not Times Square, so I order a margarita and try to stop thinking so hard about these sort of things.

Kitschy little place.  I got the chopped salad, which was good, but I was expecting more based on the other reviews.  I was disappointed that it wasn't really chopped - huge chunks of everything sitting in the bowl!

Our server seemed really inattentive and he never came back to check on us during our meal.  And then something weird happened when we went to pay the bill.  We had a Diner's Deck card and the server came back with our change and said something like "We honored it, but where did you get it?  No one has ever seen it before and we aren't sure if it's legit."  What are you saying?  Are you accusing me of printing up my own coupons?  Obviously your owner or manager signed up for this and I've been using them for the past 8 months without any problems.  I find it hard to believe I'm the first person to walk through the door with one.

I love this place, and I just can't get enough of it. In fact, I'd go here every week if I could b/c it's literally one of my favorite places for comfort food in NYC! Now don't come to Cowgirl expecting to eat a healthy meal (I mean, sure they got some salads)... but, this is the place you should go if you're ready to eat a big boy meal... like a Frito Pie! Yep, you heard right! And, nom nom nom, you won't be sorry you ordered it b/c it's that tasty! I do, however, recommend that you order it as an appetizer or to share with someone so that you can order some of their other delicious food as an entrée! Oh, and in case you're wondering just what the hell a Frito Pie is... well, it's actually a fairly simple thing-- just fritos doused w/ chili and cheese! As a kid growing up in the south, it was one of my favorite things!

What about their other menu items? Quesadillas, Texas Onion Loaf, Sweet Potato Fries-- it's all good!!  Also, I've visited The Cowgirl Hall of Fame for brunch, and I'd say you can't go wrong with anything on the brunch menu!

The atmosphere at Cowgirl is very casual--one side features a long bar with some additional bar table seating, and they have a separate dining room with booths and additional tables. There's wood everywhere, and the place is decorated with a Western theme... but it works because, after all, it's the Cowgirl Hall of Fame!

Hands down, my favorite eatery in New York City.

Whoa, whoa, you say.... a kitschy comfort food joint that's often full of loud kids and sometimes surly waitstaff is your favorite in all of New York City??

Yep. First of all, I happen to enjoy a surly bartender, especially when I've only ever seen them be as such with patrons who deserve it (the customer is not always right, people). I've had exemplary service here and great experiences with accommodating hosts.

As for the hooch, the beer selection is great, they've got a nice collection of whiskeys and tequila and as for the margaritas? I've probably downed a swimming pool full of 'em. Even the fruit-flavored ones use real fruit instead of simply flavored liqueurs added to the mix.

The food is indeed comfort food, but it's well-done comfort food. Their black-eyed pea salsa and chips are a fantastic appetizer (the first round is free). Sandwiches are all big and meaty. The All-Chopped Up salad (with chicken, bacon and a tangy citrus vinaigrette) is completely addictive. The wings (not buffalo) are tender and well-seasoned. Their monthly specials are always interesting and often include something incredible.

Cowgirl may not boast a bunch of Michelin Stars, but any time I'm with a group of friends and we're not sure where we're going to go, nine times out of ten, we end up happily sitting at Cowgirl.

Cowgirl is a great place to go relax with a few friends and have some great drinks and food. Their brunch is a highlight but its their happy hour that shines - it's actually happy!  Great staff and bartenders, even if you are not a local they make you feel like you are right at home.  There can be a bit of a wait sometimes but they always do their best to get you seated as soon as possible.  But if you don't want to wait, I suggest you saddle up to the bar and order your Frito Pie and Chicken Fried Steak from there!

This place is fun.  Its decorated with random cowgirl-related crap and even has antler chandeliers complete with paper coffee cups hanging from them.  Its comfort food with good margaritas.  I'm not a tequila fan but enjoyed them.  I had the Cowgirl burger which was decent but the fries were soggy.  I hear their chicken fried steak is good (which my date inhaled).  Dessert was cute- the baked potato ice cream.  The waitress did forget to bring us our appetizer but made up for it with a drink on the house.

This is a hopping place with a cheesy atmosphere but has a fun, happy vibe.

I can't really talk about the food here. I came here with a date just for the drinks. They make a really tasty frozen margarita in a variety of fruit flavors. Maybe I'm a cheap date or maybe it was because they serve them in 16 oz mason jars, but one was enough to get me quite buzzed.

    I had two. Wheeeeeeeeeeee!

    Yee Haw!
Haven't been to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in a dog's age. But stopped in today for lunch with a friend. What a great call.

It's still a really cool, comfortable neighborhood place with a Western theme that feels right, not forced. But let's be honest, you're coming here to chow down. And they've got some great chow here like Southern classics Chicken Fried Steak, Po Boys and BBQ chicken.

At lunch, try the All Chopped Up salad. Man, it rocks with chunks of chicken, bacon, avocado, walnuts and a vinegarette that you'll want to take home. And you can't forget the Chicken Fried Chicken Fingers. You've never had fingers like these before.

So, if you're in the West Village and you want to chow down on some down home goodness, check out the Cowgirl.

    Giddy Up Kiddie!

Beh stumbled on this place and was kind of disappointed. I had the chicken fried chicken with mash and to be honest it wasn't very good and everything on the plate had no flavor especially the chicken. The atmosphere is what I am guessing people come for and their drinks. I probably won't be going back.

This definitely makes for a nice change of pace in NY. When i looking for something awesome to eat, one of my supervisors told me i should try Cow Girl.
I took my best friend with me and later my ex (he was my bof at the time). We had no idea how far this place was from our chinatown office, but we got a nice 45 min walk before our late lunch which left us pretty ravenous for this awesome and kitschy little joint.
They serve Lone Star beer which I was introduced to when I went to Texas. I was so happy with it. I ordered a burger with sweet potato fries and was in hog heaven. Its pretty poppin at night... so i, being the old lady that I am, like to go earlier in the day- when people are still sane (for the mos part).

    Yeeee hawww!!!!!!!

I am the only person in the world that DOES NOT drink EVER! People who know me are dumbfounded when I take a sip of wine!

Well boy did I get drunk at Cowgirl Hall of Fame! I had 2 cherry margaritas and it was a blast! I had a barbeque chicken plate that was bland and not so great. The service was awesome, our waiter was SO cool I loved him (he was this weird older dude with a long braided pony tail.) When I first ordered a margarita I asked him if they could put a very very small amount of tequila in it, he said "Yea OK!! No way darling your going to drink it and your going to like it!!" Haha! So I shut up and drank it and I liked it!! I didn't taste any tequila but I sure saw it chilling at the bottom of my glass before I mixed it up!

I had a lot of fun here, but food wasn't good enough for 4 stars. I would definitely come back here if I ever have an urge to get drunk again (probably not going to happen! lol)

    FRITO-PIE !!! A new food group!

Fun, kitschy western themed bar with a general store area to also buy knick knacks and candies. Think high caloric comfort food goodnees - chicken wings, fried chicken, ribs, nachos, sweet potato fries, cornbread desserts. If you are on a diet make this your cheat day!

Dropped in recently just for a drink but ended up getting a large order Frito Pie with the veggie chili and I almost ate the bag it came in! Mr Piggy had to also get the sweet potato fries as a side. Washed it down with frozen cherry margarita in a mason jar and a Blue Point Toasted lager.

Bartender was cool and place had a fun casual vibe. I little hokey, but fun with a good menu.

I figured no big deal - just an extra two hours on the treadmill the next day!

YEE HAW!  May my love affair with this place never die. They had me at Frito Pie (my standard order), but keep me because of the staff.  Love each and every one of them.  One time we went in on Christmas Eve Day for lunch.  They were closing up soon so they could host thier employee Christmas party so they just invited us to stay and eat and drink with them.  We felt like family.

so now i go back.  sometimes with just a friend, sometimes with a group. and whenever anyone asks "Where should I take my [insert friend or family member's title here] who's in town for something fun and good in the Village?".   I say " Cowgirl, and I'll see you there!"

On the pricey side, but the kitsch atmosphere and large portions make up for it. Fun room for groups in the back with a fake fire and simulated night sky. My roommate and I shared margaritas (VERY potent) and had some burgers. We couldn't finish our plates and made a tipsy trip down to some funky bathrooms.

One significant downside is that we had to wait over an hour for a table for two, which seemed excessive.

Be prepare to wait if you go on a Friday night like I did. I went with a party of 4 and we waited 45 mins. We were not bothered by it because we ordered two pitchers of Margaritas!

To their benefit, once we finished eating, we started to scheme what was our next stop, and they did not rush us out. Service was good.

Now the food, I ordered some Frito lays chilli, that was Yummie. Then I ordered chicken enchiladas and that was a little too salty for my taste, and I definitely make way better black beans than the ones I had there :)

Overall it was filling, big servings.
