Have again: the traditional apple pie, apple crisp and apple cookies are all excellent. The pie did not last even one sitting, it was so good. Plus, they have a great play area for children and a train that runs about once an hour on the hour (we were too early). Check their online train coupon offer for a discount. Surprisingly, there were not a lot of apples for sale.

Wow! We had a wonderful time here. Went on a guided group tour of the ranch. Saw the animals, rode the train, walked the maze, saw cider and pies being made... Apple cookies and cider were tasty, but the apple pie... Oh dear. I haven't had such a delicious apple pie in years. Not too sweet and not too tart. It was perfect.

I've lived near and passed it twice a day for years - it never gets old! The apple crisp is a must-have when family comes to visit & the kiddos always love to see the animals.

My mom and I went here in May for the first time to eat lunch. At first it was confusing because we were waiting to be seated and no one told us to go order at the counter and then you pick a table. Well once this was cleared up and we got our lunch I must say it was amazing! I got the Hot Pastrami Sandwhich and i couldn't stop eating it.

This place is great to visit if you AREN'T counting calories. Talk about desserts galore.
PROS:
The food is good.
Staff is very friendly.
Animals for kids to watch and feed.
Larger playground for kids.
Mini Train rides, though they are seasonal.
CONS:
The animals quarters don't look very well upkept.
The turkeys are in a covered cage with hardly any room to move.
You'd think with the size of the property they could expand the animal pen for the poor animals to breath.Comment from Laura F. of Cover's Apple Ranch 12/11/2010

I feel a little guilty about my desire to say, "Holy Shit! What great pie!" on account of the fact that the nice Anabaptist/Brethren/Mennonite/I dunno, bonnet and plain clothes ladies probably wouldn't appreciate it. But holy shit! That is some damn fine pie. We got Dutch Apple and Mile High. Also hot-damn good are the apple cider cookies, and also the apple cider.
The kids loved the animals and the playground and hay maze. A nice barn cat made friends with the kiddos. I ate pie. -

I'm not a big fan of chicken pot pie, but clearly I didn't have any that tasted very good. Cover's chicken pot pies are SO GOOD. We also got a beef pot pie recently, and it's hard to say which is better. They are both amazing in their own way. This time we stayed for lunch and it was a wholesome lunch. We also got an apple pie (YUM) and stocked up on their corn nuts and apple cider. We wish there was a place closer to us that sold their products.
It's a good stopping place with kids for the train ride and to see the animals on your way to/from the Sierras. -

The best peach pie I have ever had! We just bought a house in Twain Harte and someone recommended Cover's to us. I pre-ordered my Thanksgiving pies (pumpkin, dutch apple, peach) and picked them up a few days before Thanksgiving. They were so fresh and the best pies we've ever had! Everyone made their request for the pies they want us to bring back with us the next time we visit Cover's. Thank you!

I stop here on the way home and get heirloom tomatoes, fresh corn, and other vegetables. Their quiche is good and the pies are great. A good place to take kids. They are closed on Sunday though, so plan on a Saturday visit if you are from out of town.

When we first moved back to CA we were up in the Sonora area and discovered Csonka's Mile High Apple Pies - the kids enjoyed the place with the train and the animals - and we all drooled over the pies.......many years went by and we went back to have some pie and discovered they were closed, sob. Today we were on our way to Sacramento for the Gold Rush Days and decided to go east into the foothills instead. Stopped by a Tourist Info place to ask a question and the person there told us that the original owners had bought back the property and it was open again!
So of course we had to stop. Doesnt look the same as what we remembered - but they still have the train and animals.
But more importantly - they have the pies!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of which is in my oven right now and smelling so good.....we also tried some of their cookies today and walked out with some dried apricots.
Can I just say - we will definitely be going there again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Great baked goods, excellent take-out or eat in menu. Amazing breakfasts, and even better pies. Their family dinners are great!! This is a good place to bring the kids and make a day trip. The animals and mini steam train are sure to delight!!

I love this place. This is a great place for children and adults to visit. I was surprised how good and simple the lunch menu was. They carry the best apple pies known to man and also offer some great, fresh apple juice too. The secret though, isn't the apples, it's the garlic bread you can buy. The ranch is very quite and serene. There is a great train ride on saturday's and petting zoo open all week. Children will love to play here, while we adults can just enjoy the food and beauty of the Cover's Apple Ranch.
