Our specialty is freshly made Cornish Pasties. We offer the traditional steak pastie (ground sirloin, rutabaga, onions & potatoes) along with 6 other varieties to appeal to any palate. We also serve a specialty breakfast pastie called a Breakfast Bobby. This is our unique creation and is very similar to a hand-held omelet in a crust. Our pastie and soup selection changes daily, so please give us a call to make sure that we have what you are looking for.…

So, today was my first visit to their new location on State Street. Located next to my other fave place, Playa Bowl's, across the street from the mediocre thirst fish and down the road (west?) of the Park Place Hotel.

My sense of direction is based on landmarks, I struggle w/ right, left, and North, South, East and West.

I know my Dad loves a good pasty, his four years of college on the keweenaw peninsula cemented and fostered that love. So, for him, I picked up a steak pasty with gravy. Gravy or ketchup or nothing, it's a whole debate. I'd order chicken or veg, but I have a fridge full of leftovers.

We go to Jenny's every time we visit TC. The new location is super cute and easier to access. Our favorite pasty is the beef with brown gravy but we have liked all the ones we have tried. The women inside are very helpful when making choices, especially when we were new to the delicacy. We love to come pick up a few, have them packed up and go for a walk along the beach and have a picnic. Makes for a great fall day and a nice warm belly.

Prices were a bit high...$10 for one large pastie?!? It was just ok.
There are probably better pasties outside of town.

Just so you're in the know, these are British style Cornish pasties which quite honestly aren't a distant departure from the UP's design on said pastry with savory filling.
These reminded me of a pot pie in that they were taller than the traditional hand-pie shape but with a completely dry filling. I ordered the French Potato and it was pretty delightful. Perhaps a little dry but I suppose there is gravy you could add, although on Jenny's recommendation the French Potato ought not be gravied. The crust was flaky and light and the filling had a really nice texture and flavor profile.
I'd absolutely try this spot again.
I took away a Lemon Bar too, which was a nice rendition on the sweeter side with a more shortbread style crust.

Stay away from this place! I've spent time in the Southwest of England, where pasties originated; and what Cousin Jennie handed me failed the test pretty miserably.

OK, it was big enough, and the crust was acceptable. The filling claimed to be "Steak 'n Cheddar." I don't think so. The "steak" was an inadequate portion of ground meat - fail. The cheddar may or may not have actually been present. What it was was undetectable. The bulk of the filling was finely diced potato with accents of rutabaga (which, if they claimed Cornish authenticity, should have been called "Swede") and the faintest hint of onion.

For the price and the reputation this place has, the flavor shouldn't have had to rely on generous shakes from a bottle of Tabasco to provide any character at all.

This small place tucked into a main street, sitting on the corner could be overlooked easily. In fact, I did, a few times because of the tree's in front.
Truth be told- I have never eaten a Pastie, being a native Michigan girl- i had to check it off the list.

I stopped into the humble but beautifully put together shop on a Tuesday before heading back to Detroit. They have white linen cloths coverend their tables, which was a nice touch. Nice local decor too.
They have some pasties available everyday, and some that are daily specials. The daily ones are in a hot heating tray available for immediate serving.

When I ordered to go, they asked how long would it be until i ate it, well, driving back to Detroit the way i road trip, it would be at least 5-6 hours.
So they suggested i purchased the half baked refrigerated/frozen ones. Good for me, because they have ALL the varieties available frozen.

The service and variety was so great that i ended up buying 4 of them!
A French Potato- Ham, potato, Monterey cheese, cheddar cheese, green onion, and sour cream.

Chicken-Chicken, peas, carrots, potatoes, corn, cream of chicken soup, onion, cheddar cheese, and celery salt.

A Steak and Cheddar- Cheddar cheese, flank steak, potato, onion, rutabaga, salt and pepper

and a German- Swiss cheese, ham, and sauerkraut in a rye pastie crust.

I brought them home, too tired to cook, They stored beautifully until the next day- The directions for heating are on the pastie itself, easy oven bake for 30 minutes or so, THEY WERE ALL DELICIOUS!
and Extremely filling. All tasted very different, fresh, and full of flavor.
The chicken or french potato were probably my favorite, but im determined to go try the others I didnt get. The top crust is so thin yet strong that you could pick up the entire thing with your hand and eat it, which i did , just to prove i could, before i decided to lay it on the plate, and cover it with the gravy that they gave me as condiment.

Please go! and at only $8.95 a piece, buy a few!

Found this place just driving by.. took a flyer before even looking at Yelp - which I never do. But didn't regret it one bit.

Had the half Asian wrap and it was full of flavor. Wife had the half club and enjoyed it. Half wraps are $5.50.

The Wisconsin cheddar w bacon soup was excellent. I could eat a lot more than a cup and it would suffice as a meal.

The pasties are good size and the place is clean. They offer sour cream and gravy to-go which was a nice unexpected surprise. If you're looking for something that's good and hunger satisfying drop in.

Never had a pastie before. It reminded much like a chicken pot pie.

Came during a late weekday lunch. Barely anybody there and no wait. Not many pasties left.

They have 2 sizes: small (10 oz, $8) and large (16 oz), $9. Judging by the size through the window, they looked the same to me.... Also grabbed some 8 oz small soup, a chowder ($3).

Got the steak and potatoes and Italian. Both in small sizes, which was filling enough. I wasn't starving by any means though.

I liked the steak and potatoes, But disappointed there wasn't much meat. The potatoes fill you up though.

My family enjoyed the Italian one and the chowder soup.

They also added $0.70 for non cash.... did not realize that until after seeing my receipt.

Overall I recommend since it's a unique northern Michigan staple. I think it's a good value.
