    Positives- great walking path
    Very quiet
    Decent restaurant
Very nice shuttle driver and all staff
    Clean room.
    Decent bed
Made to order omeletes (13.95 breakfast buffet)

    Downside
If you don't have a car there are no restaurants and nothing to do other than walking path
Gym- very small and stuffy- do like tvs on treadmill
Old fashioned heating/ cooling. Loud when on but i didn't need it on.
    No gratis water in room
Is last shuttle stop so it seemed to take 45 minutes but maybe shorter- i was tired & grumpy

The pool is SOOOOO COLD!! must be cutting cost by not heating it up, but dude, I just walked across the parking lot from Residence Inn and freezing my balls off walking back to my hotel!

With that said, the cucmber water at front was nice touch, and building is in good condition.

Clean, fairly quiet. Located right on the water with walkpaths. Is that a word? It is now. There isn't much nearby but there is plenty to eat on Grand street just 1.5 miles away. You know you need to lose weight so do the walk there and back, fatso.

***This Courtyard Marriott is located south of Downtown San Francisco and near SFO and offers comfortable rooms and free Internet/parking; the room rates are reasonable too; this is an okay hotel, but the Courtyard Marriott in Richmond is better***

This Courtyard Marriott (located in South San Francisco--10 miles or so from Downtown San Francisco) is a decent location if you are planning to spend time in the South Bay as well as San Francisco.  This hotel has other perks too--free internet (though it was a tad slow when first getting online) and free parking.

The hotel is a pretty standard hotel, but it is comfortable.  Comfortable room temperature.  Comfortable bed.  Good linens.  You can also see the water as you step outside or even from the fitness center (which is 24 hours).

The prices are good here (especially when you consider the free parking).

I did think the Courtyard Marriott in Richmond was better though.  The shower faucet was a little loose here and some of the hotel was in need of a renovation (the hallways, the elevator).  The walls are a little thin as well (but then again, so are the ones in Richmond).

This Courtyard Marriott is still a decent hotel if you are planning to spend most of your trip outside of the hotel.  This is also a good option if you have an agenda that will lead you all around the Bay Area and not just in Downtown SF.  If you are planning to spend most of your time in Downtown San Francisco, you should consider a hotel there so that you don't have to deal with the traffic or the difficult parking situation.

As noted earlier, parking at this hotel is free (and it is easy to find a space).

This hotel provided just what we needed. A hotel that was close to the city but far enough from the action where we could enjoy some peace and quiet.  I requested a room with a view of the bay and luckily there was 1 left (or so they say).

The room was nice and pretty much up to marriott standard, but there was some weird looking wall paper up.

A couple drawbacks of this hotel was that there was no fridge in there.  Not huge, but could be a dealbreaker for some.

Again,we wanted a hotel that was not too close to noise and this was great since it's in an area right off the freeway with nothing around it, look elsewhere if you want action.

I like the laid back location, and it's a pretty one, too, given the "waterfront" location. While visiting my brother who lives in the Excelsior,  this place is a perfect location to commute to his house. It's also a straight shot on the 101 into the city. Parking is FREE here, too.

It would be nice to have a fridge in the room and a complimentary continental breakfast. Holiday Inn Express provides these amenities at a comparable price. Also, I wish I had not been fooled into drinking the "convenient" (not complimentary, note the very fine print!) $3.50 bottle of water placed in my room.

You know what to expect with a Courtyard, and this one met the minimum standard.  BUT ... if you don't upgrade to a 'view' room, you're stuck facing the freaking railroad tracks with 101 in the background, the parking lot is a postage stamp, and there is ABSOLUTELY FREAKING NOTHING IN EASY WALKING DISTANCE.  This hotel is located out on a point in area containing nothing but office buildings .. except a residence inn.

And why Courtyards charge you upwards of $10 for breakfast when other hotels in this class include it in the base rate is beyond me.

I guess if you're here on bidness and you don't mind getting in the rental car to do everything, this gets another star or two ... but if you're a vacationer on a weekend trip, find something located closer to the rest of humanity ... or the part of it you want to associate with, anyway.

The rooms were clean although not super star amenities by any means.  I was a tad put out by the parking situation which was merciless to say the least.  Be prepared to hunt for a parking space in a somewhat darkly lit parking lot.

The front desk service was stellar and really made it an ok place.  Upon checking in I grabbed a sandwich from the front cooler and the cool check-in person let me have it for free.  Nice touch and I sure would not complain about that!

    Worth a return trip.

Nice staff, checked-in late on a Friday night. Our room did have a refrigerator, not sure why a reviewer didn't have one, different room style? I wouldn't know. Rooms are nice and clean. There was one con though, that's why for the 3 stars - there were some teens hanging out at the back side of the hotel parking lot. What are you doing there after 10-11pm smoking in the dark? They didn't even check into a hotel either, because I later came out to find them crossing the street and they were staring me down. I dno... I hope they weren't trying to rob someone's car or steal something -- my car was okay. Note: parking is FREE, extra star!

It's what you can expect from a Courtyard hotel. Decent amenities for the price - as they say, you get what you pay for. I use this hotel when I travel for work as its close to the South SF office and close enough to downtown SF without having to pay the premium for SF. Free parking is a plus, especially considering that the downtown SF hotels can charge up to $50 a night to park a car. This hotel is conveniently located - close to the city, peninsula and SFO airport.

I love me a Marriott brand hotel. Actually, I think i start all my Marriott reviews with that. Anyway, well, it's true, I do!

Courtyards these days are stepping it up in the Marriott world. But this one still has your classic Courtyard feel.

Free WiFi (in guest rooms) is a HUGE deal. All CYs offer it unlike full service Marriott's. This CY also offers room service.

Since it's in the vicinity of SFO there is a free shuttle (4am to 12am daily) to and from the airport. It runs about every 30 minutes give or take on the traffic. It also makes other stops to about 4 other hotels so depending on what stop you are (the CY was the last stop on my ride) you get to go along for the ride.

Check in was a breeze and Phil at the front was super friendly. Thanks for the water (:

Small indoor pool (not sure if there is an outdoor one as well). Ample fitness center. Free business center access. Plenty of free parking.

Could be noisy as it is right off the freeway and it looked like an Amtrak train ran by. My room was facing this way and I did not hear anything at night but then again I am a professional deep sleeper. If you are a light sleeper or noise sensitive just make a rec for a room on the opposite side.
Check out was also a breeze thanks to Chris and Cheryl at the front desk.

Courtyard was the first Marriott property in this location.
For the price and location I felt it was fair. Having stayed at some of S.F.'s boutique hotels for the same price, I'll take to sterile starkness of this chain.

There is an indoor pool, whirlpool and exercise room. There is a jogging trail accessible. Free high speed Internet access in all the rooms.  There is the Courtyard Cafe if you get hungry.

I've stayed here 4 or 5 times now, so I've got some basis for this review.

First off, remember, this is a Courtyard.  No, they're not going to have monogramed bathrobes, mints on your pillow, or even heated toilet seats.

However, as far as Courtyards go, this is a good one.  It is right off the Oyster Point exit at the 101 and very convenient to get on or off the freeway.  There's a gym, a small pool, and decent views of the water.  Again, some caveats; this is South San Francisco, not to be confused with South Beach.  Your water view will not include J-Lo.  Set your expectations accordingly and you'll have no surprises.

The front desk staff were always friendly and professional.  The rooms were clean and well taken care of.  Even the maid staff were friendly.  No complaints at all.

What I like most about this place is not so much that it's a well-run Courtyard, but moreso for it's convenient location.  It is literally 7-10 minutes from the parking lot to the Van Ness/101 exit.  I like staying here, paying the non-city rates, and best of all...free parking!  I find it more relaxing and civil than fighting the traffic in the city.

I have become a Courtyard user, recently. During the month of January I relied upon these properties on three different trips.

This particular Courtyard (north of SFO airport, adjacent (if not on top of US-101 North) in-advance seemed very nice.....I booked through the Marriott web site.

This may/may not be one of their newer properties. The king-bedded room was of ample size but the furnishings and TV are non-truly-updated (no flat screen).

This property does not offer a complimentary breakfast but does have ample, free parking surrounding the main building.

I tried the pool and jacuzzi but there were several teen/college age guys there when I swam so it was not as quiet and relaxing as I had hoped. Nonetheless, an indoor pool is much appreciated, no matter what time of year.

The evening desk staff was attentive but not terribly courteous. It took over 15 minutes to do paperwork.....and the room assigned faced directly onto the freeway....not exactly the quietest scenario AND the CALTRAIN commuters run parallel to the freeway so, again, you better be a hard sleeper! Ask for a room facing AWAY from the traffic.

I will continue to depend upon Courtyard....just need to remind my self of basics in the future.

My boyfriend and I were there because he was taking a written test as part of his application process for SFPD. At midnight, the fire alarm went off. After about a minute, it shut off. Finally got ahold of the front desk and they said it was a false alarm. Then at 12:30, the alarm goes off again and turns off after 10 seconds.
Then, at 1 am the alarm goes off again and doesn't turn off. We saw 5 firetrucks outside and knew that we had to evacuate. We stood outside in the freezing cold until about 2:00 when the firefighters told us we could go back inside. Unfortunately for my boyfriend, he was only able to get 4 hours of sleep before his test due to this whole ordeal.
When we checked out the next morning we asked if we could get comped for the night before or if there was something that marriott could do for us (free breakfast or a voucher for a free night) and they said there was nothing they could do and walked away from the desk.

    NEVER STAYING THERE AGAIN.

The motto for this Courtyard is "You get what you pay for"! It's cheap and there are no frills whatsoever.

Some reviews might say the location is great since it's right off the highway, but in reality you are in a wasteland of office parks and warehouses. There are no decent restaurants within a mile, so you'll be stuck eating at the bar which is well... not good. Basic fare, but it's the type of food thats thawed and heated, not made. Order the steak and you'll end up with a plate full of cream sauce as they try to hide the poor excuse for meat. Mmmm... instant mash potatoes. I was half offended by the meal and half sad for the cook.

When you get to your room you'll find all the amenities of 1995. A CRT TV that won't accept and input from your computer or Xbox (yes, I travel with one). You'll also be delighted to free internet! Again, you get what you pay for. Over the wireless the speed went up to 10k (slower than dial-up on AOL.. flashback!). Over ethernet you will max out around 100k.

To round out, you'll find a staff that really doesn't care about what you want. You reserved a King and got two Queens? Tough. You don't like somehting with your room? Tough. After all, you saved $100/night by not staying downtown, so who are you to complain?

Very helpful once you keep bugging them enough...

Beware... if you call them every 5 minutes... they'll start ignoring your call after the fourth time... so wait 15 minutes... and call again...

There is a 24 hour gym, a small pool, and a hot tub... which i can't review because the 5 frat boys who got in on my key card ran in before we got there... =P

This Courtyard only gets three stars because they were in rough shape during some construction in the lobby.  The staff at the front desk was not especially friendly, or helpful trying to locate one of our bags that had been lost by the airline.

But the room itself was clean, and the view from the patio off of the room was very nice.

I know this is a courtyard, and I know what to expect BUT the beds smell bad. They are the foam mattress kind, which absorbs smell I guess, but it is very, well, it smells like lots and lots of people and body smell.

My husband says my nose is WAY sharper than the average, so you might not think the same, but he could smell it.

Also, we did change our room and the second was more smelly than the first.

Um, two stars cause it was convenient otherwise.

I stayed here for my last three nights in San Francisco until i come back for a while.

My family and I (5 of us, all together) managed to fit comfortably in the room. They had 2 queen size beds and a pull out single bed (it was a lounge chair by day). So yes, it was quite comfy, considering we had 10 baggages stuck in there. IT still was roomy enough to move around in.

The service is okay there. if you ask for something (we asked for a microwave), they give it to you, so no problem there.

So why only three stars? Welllll. quite frankly the elevators are so slow and they also smell jank. Ew. Oh, thye didnt offer a complimentary breakfast (BOO) so yeah... kinda lame, but the place was spacious, so I'll say its okay.

Pretty standard for a Marriott as other reviewers have stated. My wife and I stayed one night here Easter weekend. It is really close to the City but far away enough to not have to deal with parking issues. The hotel was quiet and did not seem very full. No issues with the room at all. The only negative I could think of is the proximity to the San Francisco International Airport. You can hear the airplanes taking off and coming in. We weren't in the room long enough for the noise to become a problem. Decent price for the Saturday night stay.

As with all Courtyards pretty standard and you know what you're getting.  I'm happy with my stays, I've been here 3 times.  The place was updated in the last year or so the courtyard area outside is nice and it looks onto an inlet of the bay and there is a 3.5mi running path right outside.  The pool/jacuzzi is inside but clean.  The staff at least at night is not friendly at all so I worry that if someone had a problem they wouldn't help!

I travel quite a bit on business and often rely on Marriotts for predictable quality.  My experience here was actually pretty darn good until the morning.  Let me explain...
I arrived at the Courtyard around 10:30pm and was issued a very nice room on an upper floor.  Unfortunately, after hauling my luggage upstairs, neither key worked.  I went down to the front desk and the attendant happily gave me new keys.  The service was definitely friendly and pleasant.
The view from my room, even though dark was very nice.  The room seemed to be pretty darn clean.  The bed was like any other Courtyard...Kind of foamy texture and just average...Not too comfortable but not unbearable.
Upon waking in the morning, I took a shower, packed up my things and left my hotel room.  Lo and behold, when I opened my door, there was a giant (and I mean GIANT - even by a New Yorker's standards) roach scurrying out my door and into the hallway.  I was not pleased and was quite happy that I was on my way to check out.

$190 for a executive suite that's not even worth calling it that. the room was small the bed was not even king, it was a queen. our bathroom looked retarded. the shower area just had a curtain to go around it. you close the bathroom door and you can still see inside through the cracks if you're gonna take a dump. our sink is outside that bathroom. the room just plain look retarded. whoever designed it should get fired.

Don't use a Debt card, or better yet don't stay there. I stayed there for three days. My debt card was charged 440.00 which was 48.00 more than the room . No big deal. When I got home, they charged 392.00 which was the cost of the room, and still have a hold of 440.00. After talking to the hotel asst mgr, who assured me that when the 392. was charged, the hold on the 440. would be released. Not true. I checked out on Sunday, and as of today, not only was the hold not realeased, but there is another charge for 92.00. I called again today and was told the manager was in a meeting and would call me back in 2 hours or tomorrow. I called the 800 # for complaints to get a home office #, and was told all they can do is document the complaint, there is no home office, and I would have to wait for the hotel mgr to call me back. I am a traveler in the medical field and stay in hotels/motels often. I have never had this happen before. The room was okay, nothing great. there are to many places just as nice or nicer to have to go through this. They now have over $800.00 of my checking acct tied up and don't seem to care. I will never stay in a Mariott again. Shame on them for doing this, and worse yet, for not caring. Beware! There are way too many really nice hotels that are fair and interested in making the customer happy to go through this.
