tara t., you are "spot" on!!!
i really liked the room and my overall stay at this marriott. but i also had some "mysterious white-ish stain on the headboard" as well! maybe this will get the attention of the cleaning staff?
otherwise, the room was nice and very quiet. and the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies upon check-in were quite tasty.

I stayed here with some friends recently on our way to the XFest downtown, let me say - the hotel room was the best part of this trip. The room was a welcome climate-controlled 72 degrees, away from the 102 heat outside. The beds were firm, but fairly comfortable, and the plethora of pillows was quite appreciable. It's too bad this place is in Modesto, because I will never be going back there.
Also, I lost my phone in the room and house keeping found it, called me, and shipped it back at their own expense! This alone earns them a star in my book.
One star subtracted for the mysterious whitish stains on the walls and headboard. o_o

Friendly front desk staff. Comfortable but simple room. Standard tv not flat screen. The new modernized look that is advertised on tv has happened yet. Road noise from Hwy 99 can be bothersome, depending on the location of the room.
It really seems that I monku (complain) too often, but I think I am allowed to do it when I have an extremely poor experience. One such occasion took place a couple weeks ago when I needed to stay at a hotel for the night after a day of work and then 5 hours of driving. I chose this Marriott because it wasn't expensive, I like their Courtyard brand, and I knew that I'd be getting something worthwhile. Guess that I was wrong.
First off, the public restrooms were closed, and they used two rooms as public restrooms. When I checked in at around 11pm, I found that the room I was assigned to was in between these two public restrooms. I was disappointed to know that the gentleman at the front put me in between two rooms used as restrooms, where people would be slamming the door at all hours of the night. Since I had been traveling all day and did not want to be faced with the extra noise, I went back to the front counter to ask the gentleman if our rooms could be switched.
He argued with me about changing a room, which I was shocked about, since the hotel was not very crowded. After a few minutes of politely attempting to explain why I wanted a room away from extra noise, he relented. But, instead of offering a room on another side of the facility, he only offered a room that was directly across from the rooms used as public restrooms. I explained that I did not think this room was much better and if there was any way I could get another room, pay extra, get a room with a smaller bed, etc., then I would do it. He finally did offer another room on the other side of the facility.
Upon entering the room at the other side of the facility, it was very fragrant of mildew. Although I wanted to change to another room, I figured that at least this room was quiet, and to avoid asking for another room, decided to rough it out. I must note that the bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet, so I was very thankful for that. But unfortunately, there was no working ice machine in the hotel and the night manager had to get ice from the restaurant portion.
All in all, I am very disappointed with Marriott, because usually I have had great experiences for both business and vacation. But based on this experience I do not believe I will be staying at another Marriott facility for some time.
