great place to stay while visiting NY.  if you don't want to pay the astronomical prices of staying in DownTown Manhatten, but want the easy access to NY, great alternative.

the standard marriott, nothing fancy.  its literally right across the street from a nice mall, and more importantly next door to the Pavonia Path station, which is your bridge to manhatten.  one train strip (which cost 1.75) will take you into 34th street where you can hop another train to time square or just walk 10 blocks to time square.  but just a hint when buying a Path ticket should you decide to stay here. there are 2 ticket purchasing booths located outside the station...DO NOT BUY PATH TICKETS FROM HERE.  they are for the light rail system, not PATH.  i learned the hard way, and after buying $8 worth to tickets was told i couldn't use them on PATH and were non refundable.  buy PATH tickets inside the terminal.

theres no parking lot, but valet cost $16/day, which i found very user friendly.  they park your car, and when you want it just call the front desk and they have your care waiting out front within 10 minutes, i just left them a tip.

overall, i'd come back, and actually would prefer this place over many manhatten places.  its nice to get out of the chaos that is NYC and come back to a room thats more relaxed.

Good price, and convenient access to PATH train to get into NYC.  There's not a whole lot to do around this hotel though.  The rooms are a bit on the small side here, but it's a decent alternative to staying in Manhattan.

For the price, the location is incredible and it's a heck of a value.  If you're a Marriott Rewards member, it requires a MINIMAL number of points (we used 60,000 for five nights, a TOTAL bargain) - it's the cheapest in the NYC area.

If you use points (or if you don't) and you're a Rewards member, ask if they will upgrade you to a suite.  They have nine - a suite is a bedroom with a kingsize bed, a full bath, and living room w/ bar sink, microwave and small fridge.  It's terrific if you have kids with you, as there's a sofabed and you can request a rollaway bed.  The sofabeds are not the best.

The public transit is easy and takes very little time to get into Manhattan.  Bonus: fly into Newark and take PATH, the public transit, which goes straight from the airport to the hotel.  One drawback:  you can't use the same day pass or week pass on both the PATH (gets you into NYC) and on the Metro (the NYC subway).  We've spent a lot on transportation (probably $10/day each), but the savings on the hotel has outstripped anything we paid on the subways.

There's a supermarket within walking distance and a mall across the street (food court).  This place is a great way to see NYC without going broke.

We had breakfast in their restaurant this morning.  We took the Light Rail and got off the Newport station.  It's not a bad walk from there.

Both of us had the buffet.  The omlet/egg station wasn't that bad.  The cook was courteous and my sunny side up eggs were done just right.  My wife enjoyed the everything-omelet.  The bacon was extra greasy and the sausage patties on the dry side.

The fruits (fresh, cut-up oranges, watermelon, cantaloupe, and red seedless grapes) were surprisingly fresh!  I did not expect good fruit in their buffet.

The reason why 2 stars are given is because of the service.  After we were seated, not once did anybody ask us if we wanted coffee.  One waiter removed one plate throughout the entire meal.

Instead of our $1 tip, we should have charged the meal to Room 1509.

I stayed here one night.  The hotel is literally right next door to the Pavonia PATH station, very convenient.  They also have a car service, but it only takes cash so be aware.  They offer free wireless internet access and provide breakfast in the am.  There is always hot, brewed coffee in the lobby.  Decor is the same as others, modern furniture with granma linens.  But it's definitely clean.  A weird thing is that every room on my floor was recently visited by a chinese food place that dropped off a menu at each door, never seen that before.  All and all this place is a-ok.

WONDERFUL.  When my wife booked this hotel I was skeptical at first being that it was in Jersey City...boy was I wrong.  First of all, this hotel is in Newport/Pavonia area right in the middle of the financial area and smack dab next to the PATH station to go into NYC.  The hotel had just recently had new bedding and furnishing installed and they were in the process of repainting the exterior.  The front desk staff was great, the rooms were spotless and the cleaning ladies were very courteous as well.  We got this room for $189 before tax and we feel like we ripped them off....they easily could have been charging $300+ a night.  If you are looking for something close to NYC then this is the hotel for you.  Easy of getting into the city via the PATH, clean, new furnishing, etc.!!
