The Courtyard in Monrovia was ok - the price we got it for on Priceline was unbeatable. However, our room smelled a little bit like mildew, and they denied our request fo a late checkout. If you can stay at the Doubletree next door for about 5 dollars more (which we did the next night), I highly recommend it.
I've been staying at Courtyard Marriotts for years. Generally, I like them, although I'd be hard pressed to tell you the difference between it and similar offerings, such as Embassy Suites. This particular one is either brand new or just remodeled, and *very* nice. The rooms seem very cozy, but I think they're standard sized hotel rooms, but the bed is nice and huge, there's plenty of work space, the woods are nice and deep, and there's plenty of storage space, so it fills up the space nicely.
Like I said, there's plenty of work space, and free Internet (which brings you this review). Nice, accessible power built into the desk, along with a range of connectors for Ethernet, phone, audio, and video including VGA and HDMI, which I believe feed into the nice flat screen display in the room. Nicely decorated, and a decent view, even if it is of a huge strip mall and I-210. My room has a balcony, but the door doesn't open, so I'm inclined to think this is a remodel.
Great location: easy to hop on 210, and a big strip mall with restaurants and a Trader Joes literally next door.
Overall, it's no Four Seasons (that's my Five Star standard), but this is about as nice as it gets at the Government rate. I'll be happy to return, and next time I'm bringing some cables to play with these A/V ports.
I booked this room through one of them discount travel websites. When I purchased it originally, it came up as a 3-star hotel but let me tell you folks, this is closer to 4-star than 3. The rooms look nice and renovated, flatscreen TV, nice desk with connection ports from your laptop to PC, and in a good area... I've stayed at other Courtyards before and I must say, this is my favorite one so far.
Really nice new rooms and elegant lobby. All the amenities and all in style.
