Dear Dude in Room 430,
Either that's your wife and you're really good.
Or, that's your wife and she's full of shit.
Or, that's a very talented hooker you got yourself there.
Sincerely, Guest in Room 428.

Dear Marriott,

I'll start with the cons.
Cons: Not close to the metro (about $15 cab ride)
Not as soundproof as some hotels
The pros far outweigh the cons!
Pros: Area surrounding has shopping, restaurants, and entertainment
Plenty of parking
Nice pond with a paved path of walking/jogging
Fitness center and pool (though they are small)
Free Internet
Friendly, helpful staff
I've stayed at this hotel several times and while there have been some minor inconveniences (boiler broke down but was fixed within the hour), it is a very nice hotel. I don't recommend it if you are planning on traveling into DC each day but if you are content to stay in Gaithersburg/Rockville, it is a convenient hotel with plenty of food and shopping options. It is also fairly inexpensive especially compared to hotels in DC. Our most recent rate was $79/night+tax but it is normally around $99/night. I've met my parents here several times so they don't have to come into the city and we always have a nice stay.
Disclaimer: I have not actually stayed at this hotel but some family members have. This location is perfect for our out-of-town friends/family. Since it is situated in Washingtonian Center, visitors have everything they need in the surrounding area. Plenty of restaurants and shopping. You walk outside and the California Pizza Kitchen is right next to you, the Maggie Moo's and Starbucks are across the street, and the movie theater is down the block (to name a few). Our visitors have always been impressed with all the choices available that are in walking distance.
The Shady Grove Metro is a few minutes away (about an hour ride into DC depending upon where you're going) and Baltimore takes an hour to drive. Of course if you're visiting DC or Baltimore, specifically, you may want to stay closer to that area!
The rooms are also really nice and well-kept. Nothing ever looks worn or needing to be replaced. I would highly recommend for anyone visiting the DC area but wanting to stay a bit further out in the suburbs.

Two separate but critical factors can ruin a business trip: having to pay for Internet access at your hotel and having your hotel be in the middle of a residential area without access to restaurants, bars and other entertainment that helps people survive away from home. By that measure, the Courtyard Marriott Washingtonian Center is top notch. The only thing missing is proximity to an airport and access to the Metro line, although $10 and a taxi cab can solve the Metro access problem (Shady Grove Red Line Station).
The rooms are very nice and offer both wired and wireless Internet as complimentary services. I had a desk and couch, and a king size bed. That's better than my house. There's a 12 screen movie theater nearby, and a bazillion restaurant options within walking distance, including Tara Thai, which I highly recommend. If you must stay this far out of DC for business, this place is great.
