9 reviews for Courtyard by Marriott
I stayed here for my last three nights in San Francisco until i come back for a while.
My family and I (5 of us, all together) managed to fit comfortably in the room. They had 2 queen size beds and a pull out single bed (it was a lounge chair by day). So yes, it was quite comfy, considering we had 10 baggages stuck in there. IT still was roomy enough to move around in.
The service is okay there. if you ask for something (we asked for a microwave), they give it to you, so no problem there.
So why only three stars? Welllll. quite frankly the elevators are so slow and they also smell jank. Ew. Oh, thye didnt offer a complimentary breakfast (BOO) so yeah... kinda lame, but the place was spacious, so I'll say its okay.
The motto for this Courtyard is "You get what you pay for"! It's cheap and there are no frills whatsoever.
Some reviews might say the location is great since it's right off the highway, but in reality you are in a wasteland of office parks and warehouses. There are no decent restaurants within a mile, so you'll be stuck eating at the bar which is well... not good. Basic fare, but it's the type of food thats thawed and heated, not made. Order the steak and you'll end up with a plate full of cream sauce as they try to hide the poor excuse for meat. Mmmm... instant mash potatoes. I was half offended by the meal and half sad for the cook.
When you get to your room you'll find all the amenities of 1995. A CRT TV that won't accept and input from your computer or Xbox (yes, I travel with one). You'll also be delighted to free internet! Again, you get what you pay for. Over the wireless the speed went up to 10k (slower than dial-up on AOL.. flashback!). Over ethernet you will max out around 100k.
To round out, you'll find a staff that really doesn't care about what you want. You reserved a King and got two Queens? Tough. You don't like somehting with your room? Tough. After all, you saved $100/night by not staying downtown, so who are you to complain?
Courtyard was the first Marriott property in this location.
For the price and location I felt it was fair. Having stayed at some of S.F.'s boutique hotels for the same price, I'll take to sterile starkness of this chain.
There is an indoor pool, whirlpool and exercise room. There is a jogging trail accessible. Free high speed Internet access in all the rooms. There is the Courtyard Cafe if you get hungry.

I travel quite a bit on business and often rely on Marriotts for predictable quality. My experience here was actually pretty darn good until the morning. Let me explain...
I arrived at the Courtyard around 10:30pm and was issued a very nice room on an upper floor. Unfortunately, after hauling my luggage upstairs, neither key worked. I went down to the front desk and the attendant happily gave me new keys. The service was definitely friendly and pleasant.
The view from my room, even though dark was very nice. The room seemed to be pretty darn clean. The bed was like any other Courtyard...Kind of foamy texture and just average...Not too comfortable but not unbearable.
Upon waking in the morning, I took a shower, packed up my things and left my hotel room. Lo and behold, when I opened my door, there was a giant (and I mean GIANT - even by a New Yorker's standards) roach scurrying out my door and into the hallway. I was not pleased and was quite happy that I was on my way to check out.
I know this is a courtyard, and I know what to expect BUT the beds smell bad. They are the foam mattress kind, which absorbs smell I guess, but it is very, well, it smells like lots and lots of people and body smell.
My husband says my nose is WAY sharper than the average, so you might not think the same, but he could smell it.
Also, we did change our room and the second was more smelly than the first.
Um, two stars cause it was convenient otherwise.
I've stayed here 4 or 5 times now, so I've got some basis for this review.
First off, remember, this is a Courtyard. No, they're not going to have monogramed bathrobes, mints on your pillow, or even heated toilet seats.
However, as far as Courtyards go, this is a good one. It is right off the Oyster Point exit at the 101 and very convenient to get on or off the freeway. There's a gym, a small pool, and decent views of the water. Again, some caveats; this is South San Francisco, not to be confused with South Beach. Your water view will not include J-Lo. Set your expectations accordingly and you'll have no surprises.
The front desk staff were always friendly and professional. The rooms were clean and well taken care of. Even the maid staff were friendly. No complaints at all.
What I like most about this place is not so much that it's a well-run Courtyard, but moreso for it's convenient location. It is literally 7-10 minutes from the parking lot to the Van Ness/101 exit. I like staying here, paying the non-city rates, and best of all...free parking! I find it more relaxing and civil than fighting the traffic in the city.

Very helpful once you keep bugging them enough...
Beware... if you call them every 5 minutes... they'll start ignoring your call after the fourth time... so wait 15 minutes... and call again...
There is a 24 hour gym, a small pool, and a hot tub... which i can't review because the 5 frat boys who got in on my key card ran in before we got there... =P
umm if this is a good courtyard then omg what is a bad one like?
right off the freeway - the drunk drivers, police and whatever else are the sounds that will carry you to sleep. hard mattress. no soaps, shampoo etc. and i swear there had been a pet in my room. really bad allergies. staff seems like they have better things to do than care if you can sleep or not.
they messed up on my billing as well but took care of it the same day. that was a plus.
i will never come back here again, ive stayed at nicer no tell mo'tell's.
seriously.

This Courtyard only gets three stars because they were in rough shape during some construction in the lobby. The staff at the front desk was not especially friendly, or helpful trying to locate one of our bags that had been lost by the airline.
But the room itself was clean, and the view from the patio off of the room was very nice.
