Nice rooms, very comfortable beds, friendly staff, great outdoor pool area, more than decent workout room, cool view of the valley if you're on the top floors. Walking distance to the Galleria Mall and some Ventura Blvd shops. Nice decor and the business set up in the lobby is more than sufficient. The bar is a bit small, but friendly people make it quite nice.
I'm on a work trip, so this place might not be where I would go if I were on vacation just because it's not that close to the beach or attractions. You can however hop right on the 405 or the 101 and get almost anywhere you need to, which you will unless you love going to the mall over and over.
A few things I don't really like. Parking is VERY tight and it is expensive in my opinion. $15 a day adds up quick when you're here over a week . Parking can be had on the street, but not sure how safe it is. Pay for parking if it's just a few days. Someone mentioned the air conditioning going on all the time and that is very annoying and loud. I found that you can turn it off by upping the temp setting on the thermostat, but it does get warm in the room, especially when you're in the penthouse level. I personally think that my $189 a night rate was a bit high for what I'm getting, but this is LA, so I'm still getting over that fact when there are $400+ rooms down the street.
Not sure if I would stay on the top floor again, but I would stay here again if work was paying for it.
Pretty decent hotel. The rooms are adequate and clean, free parking, and friendly staff.
One particularly sad note: The hotel bar closes at 11pm. Generally I prefer something a little more deluxe, but this seems to be one of the better options if you absolutely have to stay in Sherman Oaks.
The 1st time I visited this hotel was for a Christmas work related party.
I remember having a pleasant time.
What brought me here again was another work related event. This time a Bat Mitzvah, part 2. I found parking, that is NONMETERED parking on the neighborhood street which contrasted with a prior reviewer.
The receptionist was courteous. In addition she directed us to the 4th floor ballroom location quickly.
The Bat Mitzvah girl, who was all of twelve years old, looked like Snow White, simply radiant. Dressed in a strapless, purple dress, she appeared to have just been dusted with gold glitter by her fairy godmother.
She got what she wanted, hors d' oeuvres to be served first, on the patio off the ballroom. For vegetarians, there were deep fried zucchini and vegetable quesadillas, the taste of which I could have passed on.
From a facility standpoint, the restrooms were in tip top shape. However as far as the patio, the constant roar from the 405 and 101 was a distraction, though not deafening. My recommendation, do NOT use that patio space, unless the majority of your guest list is hard of hearing and you have access to plenty of plants. It was bare concrete with a few tables, umbrellas and not many chairs.
The ballroom itself was in all decked out with balloons and fancy shopping bag centerpieces. The waitstaff were attentive and helpful. My vegetarian luncheon plate consisted of pasta and vegetables with some shredded cheese, nothing out of the ordinary. What I got a kick out of, was seeing the biggest loaf of challah bread ever. It had to have been almost 4 feet.
The memory of this festive occasion shall remain Snow White surrounded not by the 7 dwarfs, but by 12 boys, 1 of whom was taller than her. The remainder of the girls preferred to congregate outside the ballroom. The DJ lured them back in with their favorite hip hop songs.
He also coaxed them inside in a clever way. He offered the kids from her swim team, a limited number of gift certificates if they would ask adults to dance with them on the dance floor. The DJ and waitstaff were cool with the fifty kids, that in itself was quite a feat.
Parking can be really tight for this particular Courtyard, with only garage parking. The floor setup can be confusing with the garage parking levels above the hotel lobby. Room on the smaller side but the gym was descent with a good number of treadmills and machines. It's located right on the corner where the 101 and the 405 meet so a lot of freeway noise. Walking underneath the 405 will take you across to the Sherman Oaks galleria. With all that said, I had to give this particular Courtyard 4 stars for its roof top pool, gave it a retro hollywood feel, especially at night.
Nice sleeping quarters. plenty of parking-free if you have reservations there. Nice mod decor in the lobby with a nice spacious bar downstairs. Liquor store across the street, and it was too late when we arrived to do much exploring.
Breakfast was okay too...you're standard spread. Free internet!
I stayed at this hotel over the weekend for work. I wanted to kill myself because the damn air conditioner was turning on and off every half hour. It was incredibly loud. I tried to make it stop, but there was no way. Luckily, i was real tired and sick, so i drifted off to sleep despite the noise disturbance. What a disaster... why won't the thing at least just turn off?

Great non-smoking hotel in the area--I'm not aware of anything close to this quality at a similar price. We switched from a quite lousy hotel to this one for a Thanksgiving week stay, and had an excellent experience with a family of four.
What to expect:
This is much nicer than your standard Courtyard hotel. It's closer to a business Westin: a high rise with very nice furnishings, comfortable beds, down comforters (too hot though!), etc.
Very good exercise room with weights, machines, elliptical, treadmill, etc. All in excellent condition.
Heated outdoor pool and hot tub, with very nice sitting areas--though you'll hear noise from the 405 freeway. That's going to be true anywhere in the area, though.
Quiet rooms on the middle floors (avoid the wings--ask for a quiet room). We stayed on the 6th floor, weren't overlooking the freeway, and had a very quiet accommodation.
Nice, upscale lobby, convenient parking garage with no trouble finding a spot. Good room service at a reasonable price (not low, but reasonable compared against similar hotels).
Very accommodating and responsive staff.
Plenty of restaurants and the Galleria within walking distance.
Minor cons:
- loud a/c-heat that doesn't have an option to stay 'always on' (fan + a/c mode), so it tends to turn on and off at night. I just use a bit of tissue in my ears at night anyway, and it didn't bother my kids.
- expensive parking, but no more so than any other high-rise hotel. Get the pass from the hotel and it'll give you a bit of a discount as well as in/out privileges.

Great hotel and great staff. I know a majority of the front desk and restaurant staff there. All great great people.
The rooms are gorgeous. Very contemporary and comfortable. You just melt into the beds as well.
The restaurant/bar downstairs serves up some great food and drinks. If you see a very tall bearded guy working the bar, tell him Chris sent you.

This place is pretty decent for a courtyard. The staff are great, they even remember me when I check in! The decor in the hotel itself is actually pretty nice and it seems like this place was recently renovated. The reason I won't give this place a 5-star super star is because they charge $14 a night to park in their parking structure! Even hotel guest!
p.s. the amenities are decent, but the melon lotion is super!
Decent value, recently renovated, nice pool and exercise facilities, but there is a nagging sense of insecurity.
Not sure if there has been an incident at this hotel before, but at every turn there were extra security measures: key card needed for the elevators, TV and printed reminders (more than at other hotels) never to open the door for anyone.
There are several restaurants and shopping areas within walking distance, if you don't mind walking under an overpass. Once you actually get OUT of the hotel, you feel safe as can be. Not sure why they make you feel like you are leaving Baghdad while you are IN the hotel.
A totally solid hotel if you enjoy highway views from your room. This place is all about convenience - if business/pleasure brings you to the valley, there are few more accessible options. At the intersection of the 101 and 405, you're within stones throw of tons of restaurants and shopping (and a personal fave while traveling for work - the Whole Foods salad bar.) Nice spacious lobby, friendly staff and easy self-parking, though the lot does tend to get very full.

This is an OK hotel off the 405 and 101. They have a nice lobby even with free individually wrapped Otis Spunkmayer cookies (cause you never know what germs you get from cookies?) and three computers to surf the web in case you don't have your own laptop on you. Cafe is basic. Mainly for the breakfest buffet crowd. With the Galleria and so many other dining choices within walking distance, you'd be better off dining elsewhere. Biggest ripoff is the parking. $2.50 for a half hour and 24 bucks a day??? In Sherman F'N Oaks? No wonder I parked on the street. Factor that in if you know anyone who plans to stay there.

This is another place I stay when I head to Los Angeles. Completely renovated in the past 2-3 years the Courtyard by Marriott - San Fernando Valley is an excellent hotel. Fabulous beds, great location, clean and sophisticated decor. You do have to pay for parking - about $9/night - and it is located right at the apex of 405 freeway and Venturn Blvd which can be noisy. I recommend taking a high floor facing Ventura Blvd - that should keep the noise to a minimum, afford you a nice view off the Santa Monica Mountains and allow you to keep track of the traffic conditions on the 405.

I thought the hotel was okay, not spectacular. A few things irked me during my stay--but to be fair, I will admit upfront I did not complain to staff. First, they gave me a room on a low floor right next to the elevator and right off the pool patio. Not ideal in terms of safety for a woman traveling alone. However, since it was right across from the fithess center, I stayed, hoping it would give me impetus to work out (it didn't). The housekeepers kept pulling back the curtains, which meant anyone on the pool patio could see into my room. They did not replace the complimentary toiletries (one day they even put the empty bottle back on the tray). And someone had a little yipyip dog that barked and bothered me. Parking was $14 a day, I thought that was a little high. Also, they had complimentary computer access, but it was in an alcove in the lobby across from the front desk, so didn't afford much privacy. On the plus side, the rooms were well kept otherwise, the pool area was kept clean, the fitness center was pretty good for a hotel, they had coin operated laundry, and it is right near the 405 and 101, easy to get to everywhere. Not sure I would stay there again.
