Hilton Garden Inn is basically a copy of Courtyard by Marriotts.
Courtyard's were long ago adviertised as hotels designed by and for business travellers. And they did start to change the hotel business by offering something more practical for business travelers, such as a large desk/work area, lower room rates, less service, self-parking, easy in and out access, but still offer a stripped down restaurant. It really was one of the first to offer this efficient style accomodations.
But that was then, about 30 years ago. Now, there are a plethora of highly segmented and nuanced variations of a business person's hotel.
I stayed at this Courtyard because I came early for a local trade show, and the Hilton Garden Inn was sold out that the event was taking place. So, since HGI and CBM are similar, I stayed here.
It is a basic Courtyard. Same typical layout, with 4 stories, an outdoor pool, small excersize room, snack kiosk for those late night munchies, etc.
There are a few good things though. Free Internet wired or wireless, is useful. It is also only about 5 miles from John Wayne Airport (SNA).
If you are not here just for business, It is also near South Coast Plaza, one of the OCs most popular Malls for shopping. Your also a short drive to Huntington Beach, where you can enjoy the sand and surf, and good seafood. Or if you like Asian food, Little Saigon and K-Town OC are only about 5 mintues drive away. And Disneyland isn't that far either.
It's not a bad no-frills choice for this part of the OC. I got a good $129/nt rate in the middle of July. You'll pay $100 more in Huntington Beach.

I stayed here for one night for a business trip. It was definitely a no-frills place. My room was a decent size and definitely clean. The bed was comfortable and I slept like a baby. The hotel offers free wireless Internet. I skimmed their room service menu and it looked pretty standard although there are plenty of restaurants in the general area (Little Saigon) that I would check out first.
For the price I paid (about $90/night) I think I would look for something a bit cheaper next time I stay in the area (or at least a place with free breakfast). One plus is that the parking is free.
We were in Costa Mesa for a wedding, and stayed in Santa Ana for just one night. For passing through, this room had everything we needed. Pretty nice sized room for two, and I feel like we would have been able to accomodate some drunk friends after the wedding on the pull-out couch if we needed to. We didn't, and after my BF face-planted into the pillows, I admired the kind of cool, kind of tacky decor that I've grown to love about medium-priced hotels.
There was a note from the management to let us know that they have made all of the rooms in the hotel smoke-free, which is great, because in a smokers' room, I have lungs like a fish out of water. *gasp*
Anyways, the room was clean-smelling and they gave us way too many little towels. So I used all six, drying myself off piece by piece. I also brewed the regular coffee, and "borrowed" the decaf for drinking with cake or something. I would definitely stay here again.

Outside the not so great location and looking a little dingy from the outside, the room itself is not bad. They redid the courtyard here to have a nice decore and bed in each room. Very modern. The best Courtyard Interior I've been to so far.
Like most courtyards, the gym was no good.

Leave it to me to stay in a business hotel during a family trip. After having limited luck with http://disneyvacationg... , and needing a suite-oriented hotel, we decided on Marriot's Courtyard. Despite having a complimentary local shuttle to locations within 4 miles, Disneyland is 7 miles away, so we ended up driving there anyway.
We had expected a more fully equipped room than what we got, which was a fairly standard two queen-size bed room with an additional roll-away added. There was no fridge, mini-bar, nor microwave (though the lobby had a clean, public-use microwave oven). Ours was also one of the few rooms in the hotel that didn't have a balcony, so I suspect I will request that next time I book a room there.
The grounds are very well kept, and the pool and jacuzzi are very clean. The lobby is an open, comfortable space with a lovely fireplace and a view of the inner grounds' garden and pool.
The breakfast buffet was passable, with good fresh-made waffles and a ready selection of meats, fruits, breads, and scrambled eggs and oatmeal. For a hotel breakfast, it was both tasty and reasonably priced, which is good since there is nothing else within easy walking distance of this address.
The staff on hand during our two nights were surprisingly young, and what they lacked in cool professionalism, they made up for with enthusiasm and effort.
