Despite the fact that i pride myself as someone who is pretty knowledgeable with the hotel scene, i have to admit i was fooled into thinking the Courtyard Marriott was nicer than what a "courtyard" - branded should normally be. Let me explain...

Everyone knows the courtyard marriott brand is a line of hotels that are basically in the three star range. They are renovated, comfortable, moderately-priced hotels that lack the extra service, amenities, and facilities that nicer 4-5 star hotels offer. For some reason, all the pictures shown on the website give the customer an impression that the hotel is very chiche and modern. The exterior of the hotel is certainly nice and the pics of the rooms are pretty impressive as well. I guess i'm providing you with the expectations i had going into this hotel...so here is my review:

The service:

I was greeted by the valet service man and he was cordial and polite. He asked if we needed help with our bags, etc. Great start. The reception desk had plenty of employees available and we did not have to wait in line. They even fulfilled my request for a high floor room and gave us a nice room on the second to highest floor (16) with a decent city view (considering we did not pay extra for a view). Everytime we called the valet to get our car, it was ready for us by the time we got downstairs. The checkout process was fast and easy with no discrepancies between the bill and what i expected to pay. I would give the service at this hotel 4/5 - very good for this price bracket of hotels.

The room:

This is where i was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, this room was clean and well-kept. It even provided a flat screen tv and a couch. The pictures, however, gave me an impression that the room would be chiche, modern, and well-designed. It was just plain to me. The configuration of the bed relative to the TV was also awkward. Instead of having the tv directly facing the foot of the bed (as most hotels do), the TV stand was to left of the bed...meaning i could not watch tv lying normally in bed unless i turned my heat or laid my body to the left...annoying. Secondly, the bathroom was very blah. It was clean, yes, but the sink was outside and super small (barely any room to put toiletries on the surface). I was just expecting more from a recently-built hotel. I was also disapointed that the pay per view movies were not provided in HD..if i'm going to pay 13 bucks or so for a movie i want to at least see it in high def...

The facilities:

i did not use the facilities on this trip.

Overall i was slightly disappointed with the hotel b/c i felt that a modern, newly-built establishment like this should offer a few extra luxuries, especially in the room category. There was nothing impressive about this hotel. I supposed this hotel would be fine for the 1-night business traveler, but few others. I would probably not stay here again if i had other more luxurious options that were priced in the same range (150s).

Nice rooms and really good location.

We came through from Thomson M's birthday this past weekend.

Check-In was super smooth, we got there around 10am and the staff was more than happy to get us a room.

The room was on the 15th floor. It was spacious, with 2 queen beds and a one-seater. The only downfall was that the room didn't come with a refrigerator. Also, they offer free internet to their guests but the rooms don't have wi-fi, the connection is through an ethernet cable, which is usually found in a bag in the closet.

The fitness center was nice. It had a few treadmills, elipticals and other workout machines. Each cardio machine had a TV, I was able to watch the Lakers beat the Rockets in Game 2 of the 2004 Playoffs on ESPN Classic. The pool and jacuzzi was nice and clean too.

The concierge wasn't very helpful. He was only versed with the area around the hotel. In past experiences, I've seeked the help of the concierge to guide me to the cities hidden gems, that wasn't the case this time around.

Other than that, they only offer valet parking and it was about $40/day, which is comparable to other overnight lots in the city that are safe.

Tips:
-Closest BART Station is Montgomery, not Powell
-The beds come with 4 pillows. The SMALL 2 are for resting your head and the BIG 2 are for decoration. That mistake cost me a good nights sleep.

We stayed here one night for a bachelorette party.  The hotel is in what I was told the Financial District.  It was a short cab ride from Roy's where we had our dinner party.  Check in was smooth, and the bellman (also the concierge) was very helpful and informative.  We were able to get a fridge delivered to our room as well.  Clean and spacious room.  Comfy beds, nice tv!  Would stay here again.

Unfortunately its 40/night parking as is the norm in San Francisco.  It took a while to get the car but there were a lot of people checking out that sunday morning.

Great price for a great room! We booked last minute, and got a great room!

Front desk people were nice and helpful, and the room was clean. They also have a bar/restaurant and a Starbucks attached to hotel as well.

Although it's a little far from main attractions, the Muni (SF bus system) offers a 3 day bus pass for 18 bucks and it's for unlimited rides on the bus and trolly.

First time stay here was very excellent.   Extremely clean.   Very professional staff.   My bed and pillows were uber-comfortable.    Even though I slept for about 5 hrs, I felt completely rested.    One plus is that its located right next door to my corp headquarters which adds a major convenience factor for me.

The breakfast at the hotel restaurant was by far one of the best hotel breakfast meals I ever had.    The omelet guy was quick to make me a very tasty Denver omelet and I had super fresh strawberries and other fruit.

The staff in the hotel bar was VERY cool and friendly.   Had some great conversations and laughs with them.

I deducted one star because of price where you have to pay some ridiculous Health Insurance and bid fees but then again its San Fran...what do you expect.

For the price of this place, you cannot go wrong by staying here! We booked the Courtyard for $99/night and what a steal it was! They have free wireless and wired Internet and a couple kiosks in the lobby to print your boarding passes before heading to the airport.

The rooms were really nice and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. While the courtyard is a few blocks further from everything than the Marriott San Fran, it's worth saving a few bucks to stay here. The only con I had, was there is no safe in the room, but this seems like a Courtyard standard though.

Having the Starbucks right in the lobby was also very convenient for having breakfast in the mornings!

After a wicked night @ Temple I was forced to rest here upon Googling the nearest hotel from 540 Howard st.

Only 2-3 blocks away was this wonderful little hotel.  The front desk was friendly to my drunkard habits and also informed me that Domino's delivers until 3-4am!

After getting a killer $99 Friday night deal here I ordered pizza and had some fun in the complimentary Jacuzzi in my room!

Forget the $43 parking rate park on the street or pay $10 to park in the gated parking lots down the street!

CONS:
The in-room Jacuzzi drained SLOW!  I dare to wonder what is clogging it (probably some cuzzi LOL)

There was no ice-machine on my floor.  It's only on the 1st floor according to the front desk.

But for $99/night in the thick of SF that isn't too bad!

I wish for San Francisco to be a smaller city with this hotel right in the heart of the busy-ness.  I absolutely loved this hotel.  It's quite beautiful but is located downtown.  Although it's not too far from the shopping streets on Market (about 0.4mi), it is far away from the main attractions of San Fran, such as China Town, Fisherman's Wharf, etc.

We basically took a cab to the closest place we can start to feel the tourism vibe and started walking from there.  The hotel was definitely worth staying at, despite the location.

We got the standard guest room with one king bed and sofa bed with a wonderful view of 2nd street and all that's behind it.  The staff was nice and the concierge was extremely helpful (he even hooked it up for a cheap limo ride to a night in the town!).

Business trip + downtown SF = right in the middle of action. Got a nice room up on the 21st floor overlooking the thick of the city (and the backside of an building).

Cordial service and retrieving the car took a bit longer than anticipated (we called to give them a heads-up before checking out).

Our arrangement hooked us up with a free breakfast. It consisted of buffet with decent options: meat (sausage, bacon), fruit (watermelon, honeydew, oranges, apples, cantaloupe), pancakes, eggs, and toast (white and wheat). Out of all those options, I stacked up a bowl of sausages and bacon. Heart attack waiting to happen, right? But DAYUM it's good!

Final Call:
Mariott's service and location is worth a return trip(s)!

This is a recently redone Marriott, usually reasonable rates. The rooms are modern and I've never had an issue here. They have day passes to the health club/full gym across the street for $10. There's a starbucks in the hotel if you need your naked juice fix in the AM.

I'd stay here again.

Average location in proximity to places you'd actually want to visit, Courteous & Professional Staff, Clean & Comfy Room, Free Wi-Fi, Hotel bar with happy hour with not so happy prices but an awesome bartender, Starbucks that is NEVER open plus the locals told us Peets is where it's at. Three stars not because anything was bad but it wasn't 5 stars plus I asked for extra pillows and a high floor. I had two pillows and the room was on the 4th floor!!

Stayed overnight this past weekend because we were attending a company Holiday party at the ballpark and wanted to stay it safe and not have to drive back home after, as most of my coworkers were doing. Can you say hotel party circa high school days??

Walking in - very clean front desk area and there's a little starbucks when you walk in.

Rooms are nice - comfy double beds with still a good amount of walking space in the room. Closet is a little hard to get to since the bathroom door blocks half of it. Bathroom is simple - nothing fancy: shower/tub and a toilet. Had a view of the rest of the windows of the hotel (it's in a U-shape) but that was fine.

Overall, great experience - staff was very nice and friendly. No one called security on us when a group of 15 drunks stumbled into the lobby and commenced the party upstairs..so that is definitely a plus.

Got a killer rate for $129 per night for the weekend and it was a good buy. Room was nice, clean and quiet and the central location made things very easy and close. Valet parking was high at $43 a night, but that seems like a bargain compared to hotels in Chicago and NYC. The front desk was friendly and nice and placed us in a high floor room with a very nice view of the city. And there's a wine / liquor / convenience store right across the street so you don't have to pay the exorbitant prices at the hotel for sodas, water and light snacks. All in all, a good stay. Highly recommended.

P.S. - I didn't give it a 5 because although there was a 37-40 inch LCD television in the room, it had only analog TV signals, no HD. Seems like a waste of a good monitor.

A friend and I stayed here for one night in February.
It was okay/nice. Nothing spectacular, but a step up from the Best Western.
We booked it for the location. Really close to great restaurants and clubs.
We had reservations at Local Kitchen and Wine Merchants and plans for Temple nightclub, the walk was very short to both!

The only complaint I have is the 43 dollar parking. That's pretty standard every where in SF though I guess.

After all was said and done, it cost us about 200 dollars for a pretty spacious room with two queen beds and parking in SF. Not bad.

I'm so glad I was only here for one night. Flew in for work - I had to wake up Thursday morning at 3:30am to make my flight. By the time I arrived at the hotel at around 5:30pm, I was ready to fall into bed and die.

Check in was smooth enough. They had me up to my room in no time at all, but when I got to my room, the problems started. There was a weird odor in my first room. At first I tried to ignore it, but when I lay down in bed it got worse and finally it got to a point where I couldn't take it anymore and I went in search of the odor's source. It turned out to be a wet spot (ewwwwww!!!!) on the carpet. Poor tired me called the front desk and requested another room.

They were nice enough about it, but in my exhausted state I was kind of annoyed that they didn't offer to bring up the new room keys. So the second room was on the same floor - no smell, or at least less smell than the first. I go to turn on the TV and nothing. I try again, and again, and still nothing.

I call the front desk and this time I tell them that they need to bring up new keys for yet another new room. I press the power button one more time while I'm on the phone with them, and presto! The TV freaking turns on....

So I finally have a smell free room and a functioning TV and I'm ready for room service. The lady who took my order over the phone was so sweet. She could tell how tired I was, and made me smile, which was much needed by that point. My food arrived about a half hour later.

I ordered a steak and they did remember the Horseradish on the side that I requested, but the food just wasn't that good. The steak was not good quality and of course, it was overdone. Oh well.

This Courtyard earns two stars for its service - and one more for a bed that I fell asleep in at 7pm and stayed asleep for a full 12 hours. If I go back to San Francisco they're putting me up somewhere much less smelly dammit!

This hotel is quite nice for a Marriott Courtyard.  I stayed here for three nights while in town on business.  We got an awesome deal midweek for $149/night.  If I had a car, I probably wouldn't have been as happy with the price since the parking does cost $43 and there aren't any nearby alternatives that were easy to find.
The check in experience was okay.  My only  complaint is that my key, on several occasions, stopped working (and, no, I did not keep it near my cell phone or credit cards).  The hotel bar is quite nice (and not necessarily standard for a Courtyard so that was a pleasant surprise) and the drink prices were actually somewhat reasonable for a hotel in the middle of a city.  There's also a Starbucks just off the lobby which was a pretty darn nice convenience when heading out for early in the AM for a long day.
There are some very good restaurants in the area (Lulu's, Salt House, 21st Ammendment) and I definitely enjoyed the neighborhood where the hotel is located.

If I'm going to stay overnight in San Francisco, this is where I want to be. Decent strategic location and great value.

Never thought I could get a king-size bed, a living room with a flat screen and a bar, and a view for 120 bucks. (off-season price I'm assuming) I'll go here any time.

2nd and Folsom isn't Union Square, but it's convenient. It's walking distance from Mongomery Bart station, the N, and Cal Train. You can also walk to the ballpark from here. Not like I really want to hang out in Soma that bad, but there are some great restaurants and cool bars around.

Totally reasonable weekend-in-the-city hotel. The restaurant here is not good at all, so don't bother. If you're large vertically, like myself, it's nice to be able to get a king bed in a cool spot for such a good price.

I LOVED this place.  My girlfriends and I arrived on a Saturday afternoon.  The small woman behind the check-in counter couldn't have been nicer.  As I was handing her my credit card and ID, one of my friends shrieked and pointed at my hand.  It was bleeding, pretty badly.  Great.  The small woman says, "how many keys would you like?"  She surveys my friends and says, "six?"  We let her know 4 probably was enough.  A few seconds later a band aid surfaced on the counter.  :) Nice, observant AND efficient. Sweet.

The rooms were awesome.  All my friends kept commenting on how comfortable the beds were.

The bellhop dropped what he was doing and got us two cabs instantly.

We were really loud, we just are.  My friends kept flashing the guy across the street with a telescope, we made a total mess of the rooms and we stumbled in at 3:00 a.m.   We never got a "shush" or weird looks, they were just fantastic.   I'll be back.

Stayed here last February and keep saying we have to go back... only because it's SUCH a value for an SF hotel and is in a great location.  I even enjoyed the appetizers at the little bar/lounge.

Definitely recommended for someone needing a room in the city who is on a budget.  It's definitely not the W, but it's definitely 1/3 the cost of that for a suite.  I also was able to find street parking super easily and there are great restaurants in the area.

This place was nice and clean.  My room smelled fresh as soon as I opened the door.  I had a great view of the Bay Bridge and I love that there is a Starbuck's on-site.  I also took advantage of the free internet connection.

Maybe I liked it so much because the room was company-paid and (shhhh) I was able to sneak my husband in for one night away from the rugrats.

By far one of the best Courtyards we have ever stayed out. We checked in on Tuesday and was immediately upgraded to a king suite on the 9th floor. The housekeeping staff was friendly and prompt. Starbucks is in the lobby so if you are the type to get your morning java daily this is the place for you. The internet however isn't wireless but it is complimentary so that is great. The hotel is in a freat location right at the intersection of Folsom and 2nd street. If you are looking for good accomodations at a reasonable price this is the place in san francisco.

Can I give 3 1/2 stars?

I have stayed here several times.  It is probably one of the nicer Courtyards in Marriott's stable.  The rooms aren't anything special (though clean and some offer wonderful views of the Bay Bridge) but the lobby and bar areas are inviting.

And it's located in the heart of the SOMA district.  You can easily walk to the Metreon, the nearby museums, and shopping at Union Square.  And it's very close (about three blocks) to the Montgomery Street BART station.

During baseball season (and if there's a conference in town), it is somewhat difficult to get a room.

This is a pleasant place to stay on the edge of the financial district.  The room smelled fresh, the bathroom was spotless and the bed was too soft.. Linens and towels were not luxury quality, but prices were more reasonable than the W nearby. For breakfasts, the restaurant was average, but be aware it is open limited hours.. The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful. Plus, the prices can run high at tourist/convention season, so do comparative shopping. If you are  too busy to make use of extensive hotel amenities beyond room service, this hotel is perfect for you;.   Thin walls, but excellent showerheads make it a good compromise.. Recently, a Starbuck's located there.  Currently, the main lounge is undergoing renovation.

I would definitely stay here again just on price alone.  As nice and clean as it was I would have thought it would be more.  Room was clean and comfortable, couldn't ask for much more.  I think 40 bucks a night for valet is a little steep though.  It's in a great location too, there's a lot within walking distance.

I don't have very strong opinions on hotels, but I pricelined myself a cheap night here so we could attend a late show at Sketchfest and hang out a little the next day. The room was clean and comfortable. Nothing remarkable, but it was nice. The only bad thing about this neighborhood is that it is d-e-a-d on the weekends (for obvious reasons), so some places I found on Yelp and wanted to try weren't open at all! Drat.

There should be a separate yelp section just for the bar in this Courtyard Marriott - ironically named Whispers.  Or perhaps, it is supposed to be quiet, for the shady out-of-town conventioners who are trying to stay low-profile.  Whatever the case, it is right across the street from where I work - and so, it is a nice convenient place for happy hour .  This is a very small bar and as you can imagine not hugely popular - so it's easy to get a bunch of chairs and tables for your group.  If you talk above a certain level, however, be warned that you will be reprimanded.  Yet, it has many things to recommend including very strong sangria and pretty good snacks.  I also saw someone eating a full meal at the bar, so you could probably also order dinner here if you didn't fill up on shots first.  Whispers is the http://bomb.com.  And it's not just for out-of-towners anymore.

Very clean rooms and nice lobby/lounge area. Market street is just a short walk north to catch the muni and the location of the hotel is central and accessible by cab. The 280 and Bay Bridge is really closeby too! Quite a distance to Union Square but it is walkable (I was quoted about 10 blocks). Concierge was quick to give directions and hail a cab and the front desk staff was pleasing. The only issues were that my friends were looking for late night eats and unfortunately EVERYTHING in the area was closed. And that there was no mirror anywhere else in the room besides the closet and vanity. So four girls getting ready for the night sharing one outlet and small space was a little hectic. Other than that, it was all good. The beds and pillows were so comfy that we didn't want to wake up, it was heaven. We stayed here for only 2 eventful nights so weren't able to enjoy all the amenities but I will definitely come back!
