21 reviews for Courtyard by Marriott Pasadena Old Town
This review is complicated. First off, I only have two complaints (well.. okay, 3) If these don't bother you, or you get a room facing away from the main street, this Hotel would get 5 stars.
Complaint 1. Expensive Parking. $15.00 Self Park. Be warned.
Complaint 2. Room facing Street. Even on the 4th floor, the street was a bit loud. The fire engines were often during evening, not so much at late night, and common during the morning and day. If you get a room away from the street, you should be okay. I didn't find the walls to be very thin. Maybe I had quiet neighbors. The hotel was sold out.
Complaint 3. The bar tenders was unbelievably slow..... She did not take customers in the order in which they came. Hannah needs to focus a bit. Maybe she needs glasses.
So, if you don't get a room that faces the street, you don't drive or don't care about paying for parking, and you don't need a drink at the end of your day, go ahead and stay here.
Good Things:
1. Free Internet!! I had to connect my computer to a cord but it was supplied and worked well. This is a big plus.
2. Location, location, location. A 1.6 mile walk to the Rose Bowl. Sure beats driving into the place and fighting traffic.
3. Room: Comfortable bed. Not the Marriott bed but nearly as nice. The room was clean. I used the tip $$ that I didn't give to the bartender and left it in the room for the cleaning staff. Sorry Hannah. You missed out. I tip well.
This Courtyard is in a great location if you are visiting Pasadena. Just a few blocks from all the happening joints on Colorado, an easy walk. Close to the freeway. It turned out to be a great launching point for visiting movie studios in Burbank and Universal Studios.
The rooms are kind of tiny. By the time they squeezed in the bed, the night stands, the desk, the dresser, the fridge and microwave, the coffee table, the sofa and the A/C unit, there wasn't a lot of space left to move around. The TV is small and CRT, but it does swivel so you can watch from the bed the desk or the sofa.
The hallways smell of some air freshener or something that is kind of sickening. We didn't eat here, breakfast is not included. We didn't even see the much of the hotel after we checked in. There is hotel access from every level of the garage so you can park and get right in with your room key which was convenient.
I checked in today and got a cool king one bedroom suite and a reserved parking space outside the front door. I don't normally stay at Courtyard Hotels, but I have to stay at a hotel in Old Pasadena for work purposes. The Courtyard is at a great location, only two blocks away from Colorado Street and in the heart of Old Pasadena.
This hotel is very clean with updated furnishings and a great friendly staff. The service that I received here is as good as I have received at the Ritz.
I may have to consider staying at more Courtyards in the future.

This courtyard is like a Motel 6. it has crappy rooms, crappy service and inexperienced concierge service. I stayed there for two nights and in the morning when i left my room the carpet was soaking wet. it took the management 2 days to fix the leak where ever it was. The concierge service recommended me Italian restaurant twice when i had asked them for French cuisine.Augh.
I must say there breakfast is good as it is full service with made to order omelet but still doesn't give me enough reasons to stay there again. Trust me, it is so not worth it
Staff were very courteous, classy hotel, situated a block away from the main strip of Colorado Blvd. The hotel is surrounded by many shops, bars, and restaurants!! Parking can be really tight though.
This review covers their conference facilities and food. Had a company event there and thought I'd share my thoughts on this facility in case you are thinking about it for your conference needs.
Coffee service was awful. They basically kept running out of things. At any given point, you were either waiting on them to bring coffee or if they had coffee, you were waiting on cups, if they had cups, you were waiting on cream.
We had a conference of about 100 people crammed into two adjoining rooms. Audio visuals were poor because the rooms are designed in a way which makes it tough to see things from all the way in the back.
Quality of the food at lunch and food at dinner, along with cocktails were good. Specially the jumbo shrimp in the evening during cocktail reception was awesome.
Overall, there are better conference facilities around with better service. Unless $$ is an issue, you might want to skip this one.
Oh and they only have valet parking (or at least that is what they said, but then I heard some people talking about self parking). It cost us $7 per car because we were with the conference. Not sure what it costs normally.
Just stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Old Town for my sister's wedding. She had her rehearsal dinner here, and it was rather large group since many were from out of town. We had a nice room with two double beds. Pool and hot tub were nice, and the fitness room was typical. Aside from the nice room, the other major attraction is the location - walking distance (3 blocks) to great shops and boutiques along Colorado Blvd, and also the Pacific Asian Museum (8 blocks or so). Self parking is $15/day, and valet is $17/day. We had a decent discount on the room because we were with the rehearsal dinner party.
Good enough place to stay. Ask me why we stayed here since I live just 40 miles east? Well, we had a reunion, and vs. sitting in traffic four days in a row, decided to stay where the group stayed.
So we really made use of the pool! It was nice sized, lots of shaded areas and good for the 6 year old girls to play in. Husband used the gym a couple of times, he said it's pretty standard, he gets bored running on a treadmill like a guinea pig- so he suggests running outside.
Parking was okay, it's a bitch to get into if you are coming south on Fair Oaks, you have to make a U-ie off of Holly or come around. They have a one way in parking facility, I thought they charged for self parking- $14.00/day, but we weren't charged after, so that was a PLUS!
The parking attendants are all very nice- but I've gotta say this one guy at the front desk was sort of... a jerk?!! We bought and pre-paid our room via Expedia and when we got there and checked in in the MORNING of our stay- were told that they didn't have any king size beds. I told him that is what we reserved 2 months ago and it's paid for, but he didn't really want to hear it or care- so he said that our room was larger w/ 2 beds. Was it really? I think not... Whatever. I didn't have time or patience to argue.
A plus is that if you park yourself, you can walk directly onto the floor that your room is on from the parking lot. And it's close to Old Town Pasadena.
Was in Pasadena for a party and a friend and I thought we would spend a couple of days and have some fun. This hotel was highly recommend to us and we thought we would give it a try.
Arrival: Friendly and fast at the front desk...went up to my room on the 6th floor and it was clean and neat with a nice view of the pool area and mountains. King size bed, fridge, microwave, Internet access, and all the bells and whistles...not bad at all.
Bar area: Large, comfortable and inviting. The bartender, Hannah, was a complete delight, spent most of my evenings at this bar. Met alot of interesting and fun people. I might add, that quite a few locals stop by here for drinks.
Food: Not great, but OK...I had the usual bar appetizers, shrimp, chicken sticks, salad, and a few other munchies. They also have an endless supply of popcorn...ice tea, water, and the like.
The breakfast is complimentary and made to order buffet style...and better than the stuff I had at the bar!
Valet: Fast and expensive
Pool area: Enclosed and yet it felt like a garden...I liked it.
This is a no smoking hotel except for outside around the pool. For you smokers, keep this in mind.
I think, if I ever go back to Pasadena again, that I would stay here...close to restaurants and entertainment and you can actually walk to where you want to go...if you desire to do so.
To sum this all up, I give it a solid 4 stars...mostly because of all the fun I had at the bar and the people that I met while there.

Clean and close to much entertainment. Definitely a Marriott.
Great location; within walking distance to most of the restaurants, bars, and shopping in the area.
The hotel staff is friendly and very helpful. The pool is clean and large.
Prices will vary between $170-$279 depending on time of the year. Valet parking is $15.
Nice room, clean, warm pool, good selection of coffee and tea in the a.m. Good location for anyone who likes to walk. Old Town Pasadena is lovely. A manageable walk to the Norton Simon Museum (recommended).
I did not pay for the hotel so I cannot say anything about the price.
The rooms are clean and the internet is ACTUALLY FREE in the room.
The staff was friendly as well.
Decent room, although very small. For two people, it was a bit cramped. I would have rather have not had the couch and had a bit more wiggle room. The world's smallest bathroom counter.
Very clean. Service staff was excellent, concierge helpful. My partner's backscratcher (I know, its weird) disappeared the second day. I can't imagine where *that* went. The maid disavowed any knowledge.
Within walking distance of Old Town, restaurants. The breakfast was NOT free, but they did have a decent breakfast buffet. Parking was $13.00 per night for self-park, I think it should have been included w/ the room. County tax was a bit exorbitant, so watch for that.
Got the government rate, it was a good deal, I slept well. End.

If you are looking for a place to stay that is clean, in a decent neighborhood, without breaking the bank - this place will do fine. The folks at the front desk were always helpful and courteous. The rooms are quiet. I never heard a peep from any of my neighbors, no-one walking down the hall or heel walking loudly in the room above me. They have a decent gym with up to date cardiovascular machines (2 cross trainers, 2 treadmills and 2 bikes) and free weights. I had some trouble with the high speed internet and a tech came to my room straight away to replace the modem and solve the problem. You will pay an extra $15 per day to park.

It's true. The walls are thin. It gets worst if your room is next to an elevator since you hear the beep from time to time. There's a church nearby which chimes from time to time. Plus it's located on a street which is pretty busy. You can hear the noise from traffic. I'm a light sleeper so take that into consideration. No free continental breakfast. I called the front desk about it.
Good news is that you don't have to go very far to find restaurants, shops, etc. It's a block or two away at most.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, and I like the parking structure that lets you park on your floor, rather than making you bring your luggage up the elevator.
Service is friendly and courteous, and I feel kinda bad because we were partying the night before, and somehow about 50 of those hotel notepads ended up scattered on the floor of the room... I don't know what happened but it must've been interesting.

This is a typical Courtyard by Marriott property, which is my corporate lodging of choice. This particular property is where I stay at least once a year whenever I am in town for a UCLA football game/friends wedding/or business in the Northern LA vicinity.
Nothing special, just totally predictable Marriott cleanliness, good service, friendly staff, everything a chain hotel should be. Rooms come with a continental breakfast that is standard self-serve hotel fare (make your own waffles, fruit, cereal, bagels, pastries, juice, tea and coffee), served in what is probably one of the cleanest and nicely done breakfast rooms.
Minus one star because its 2 blocks away from the nearest coffee shop.

Actually, I'd give this a 2.5.
The location is good, and within walking distance to Colorado Boulevard and many restaurants and all that the historical district has to offer.
But:
The bedding is just OK. Nothing special or especially cozy. The room decor is pleasant enough, and clean. I like the toiletries, too.
But: This hotel has a weird layout - it took me three days to get my bearings inside - I don't know why, exactly, but I just couldn't get it straight.
Free internet, but somewhat slow. Pay for parking - why is that?
Ask for a room facing the pool - usually the kiss of death because of little kids playing and being kids, but here, there didn't seem to be any. Alternately, if you get a room facing the street, it will be somewhat noisy. and those walls... oooh, paper thin! Embarassingly thin.
No free breakfast, but coffee pot in the room ( I walked to the Coffee Bean down the street instead)
I've stayed here quite a few times. I mainly like it for it's location. The rooms are okay, nothing special. There is a coffee maker in the room and the wireless internet is free. You can check in and then drive your car (self-park) to the floor you're on.

Typical typical. Thin walls (I could hear my neighbors TV). Clean rooms. Best part is that it's well within walking distance of Old Town so you have many options for eating and entertainment without having to worry about driving back.
