My company paid for the hotel, so I didn't have to worry about the cost.  From the freeway you can see the sign, but once you turn on Esplanade it's hard to find the hotel.  The hotel is in the back of all the businesses.

The staff was very friendly, but I only saw them when I chcked in and out.  The first time I stayed there I was on the 2nd floor in a room with two queen sized beds.   The second time I had a king sized bed with a couch.  There is ample space, and I believe every room has a balcony.  They have LG flat screen t.v.s, and I had a microwave, and fridge in my room.

On Wednesdays they have light snacks by the bar for free.  There is a business center where you can use the computers and printers for free.  Hit okay and the computer gives you 20 minutes.  If nobody is there you can hit it again and keep using it.  There is free wi-fi and internet access from your room for free.

A nice extra benefit is that they have a connection with Bally's which is down the road.  Show them your room key and you can use their facilities for free.  The gym at the hotel has two treadmills, and one weight machine (it's tiny) with mirrors on one side of the wall to make it look bigger.   Go after 8 p.m. people are usually not there.

The bed was nice and soft, I'm not sure about the pillows because I never use hotel pillows.   Be careful of how loud you are because the walls are pretty thin.

Across the street is a Target, Food-4-Less, various clothing stores and eateries.  Everything you need is not too far away, and you're right by the freeway.

I forgot my watch the first time I was there.  I came back the following week and asked about my watch and they had it.  I wish they would have mailed it back to me, but they kept it so I was happy.

The only thing they did not do for me is put my bill under the door, and they didn't have the option to check out through the t.v.

Can be confusing to get to, located in the so called "financial district" part of the city.  Look for a Shell station and turn into the street next to it.  If you hit a dead end, just turn around, and its to your left.  Easy freeway access, although the main street can get busy during rush hours times, but it's nothing compared to valley surface streets.  Plenty of good eats and shopping on the other side of the main street, with a Borders, BJ's, and a Nordstrom Rack.  No flaws to be said about the room, it had a flatscreen which is becoming a standard nowadays in most Marriotts.

I like this location for a quick affordable getaway from LA without the Santa Barbara crowds and prices.  The hotel's location is close to almost everything for a restful weekend or summer vacation.

Get off the 101 at Vineyard, make left at Esplanade and you're home.    After you pass several buildings that houses almost every reputable bank you've ever heard of, you'll see the hotel with ample parking at the end of the cul de sac.

You can also see the hotel from the 101.  Of course, by then it'll be too late to exit.

If you like shopping, there's the Esplanade Shopping Center across the street & the Camarillo Factory Outlets a little further south on the Ventura Freeway.  For antique browsing/shopping, don't forget to check out the Ventura downtown business district.

For recreational activities and water sports, you've got the River Ridge Golf Club, the Buenaventura GC, the McGrath state beaches, Mandalay beach parks, Piedmont Bay, and of course, the Channel Islands harbor area close by.

The hotel's main building has six floors and there are two-story courtyard style rooms surrounding the pool area.

The right wing and the back of the hotel are where all the rooms are located. We particularly liked our higher floor room in the back because it overlooked the pool without the noise.  Our pool view was framed by some pine trees which I thought gave us added privacy and a picturesque view of the blue water below.

The left wing of the lobby houses the restaurant/bar area which serves pretty decent food.  Directly behind is the convention area where seminars & conferences are held.  There was an art auction going on when we last stayed there.  Comfortable couches surround a fireplace facing the front desk area.  No frills, nothing fancy.  Everything was just comfortable and essential.

The hotel staff we met were all nice, friendly and helpful.

Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean.  So spacious that it almost seemed sparse, even with the work desk & chair.  So spacious that it was enough for a relaxing 7 ft couch in the middle for watching TV.  The room had enough space left for a separate little table for the coffee machine which freed up valuable vanity counter real estate.  The furniture reminded me of my parent's home when I was growing up.  That's pretty vintage.

I liked the Wifi hotspot in the room which meant our internet connection was free, but the TV was still an outdated CRT.  No LCD/Plasma flat screens in rooms at this location. At least not yet.

I give credit to housekeeping because they don't have much to work with in this hotel.  The bathroom seemed bare & spacious, but at least there was a gleaming granite counter top in ours.  I thought the sconce on both sides of the mirror were quite unique compared to the off-the-shelf artworks hanging on the walls.

I don't know where they bought their beds, but we slept like babies every night.  Thanks for a pleasantly comfortable stay.

History

Established in 1999

Opened originally in 1976 under a different hotel chain, converted in 1999 to a Courtyard by Marriott.  Don't let the name fool you, because it is actually more of a full service hotel than most Courtyards.  Full service bar and lounge open nightly for cocktails, appetizers or dinner.  Room Service available, excellent fitness room, along with very friendly staff.
