4 reviews for Courtyard by Marriott
Three other frugal fellas and I decided that forking over $600 a night to stay at the Mohegan Sun hotel was just not in the budget if we planned to have any money leftover to have fun at the casino itself. So, we opted to stay down the street at a Courtyard Marriott and were very pleased with our decision. The room was a large size with two queen beds, plenty of space for our baggage without tripping over it. Our room was on the first floor just outside the lobby area, so I was a little concerned about what the noise level was going to be like. You can imagine that a lot of late night casino goers may be a little on the loud/intoxicated side upon return to their hotel. Well, the door must have been sound proof or something, because I didn't hear a thing all night, or even in the morning when the breakfast area filled in with guests.
I've stayed at Mohegan before, and seriously, unless you're planning to take advantage of the hotel services, save your money and come here--our room for four came to about $220 for the night including all taxes, fees, etc. They have free shuttle service to and from Mohegan that runs pretty late, and even if you miss the last shuttle, we were told that a cab ride back to the hotel would only be about $20. A justifiable expense when considering the savings over staying at the casino hotel. Unless I come across an incredible deal on a room at Mohegan, I will probably try to stay here again next time I head down there.

I highly recommend staying here rather than at Mohegan Sun. The rooms are big, spotless, and they have free internet. Oh, and if you reserve them off of their website they are quite cheap. That combined with a free shuttle that runs to and from Mohegan Sun is totally a reason to stay there!
I think I was charged twice for one of the rooms though so that is why I gave them three stars for now. I prepaid for a room (or at least I thought that I did) and then they charged me for it. Hmm, I haven't had time yet to go through old credit card statements to figure it out so for now, three stars but I plan to edit/update it after I figure it out. Also, the staff at this Courtyard wasn't super friendly but they were fine. We also couldn't find any places to eat near the hotel which was a bummer. But, again...the rooms were spotless and they were more than happy to accommodate our request that one of the rooms we reserved was handicapped accessible.

This hotel is a gem when compared to the financial disaster that staying at Mohegan Sun could be. I was headed to the area for a bachelor party at Mohegan Sun and being a hotel whore, I wanted desperately to stay at the casino itself. Considering that I didn't have the $599 per night they wanted just laying around, I settled for the Courtyard which Google Maps swore was 8 miles away. I don't think Google Maps was right. I think the hotel was actually less than 8 miles away. The ride was nothing. I was very pleased with the proximity and wonder why people actually spend the money to stay at Mohegan when this place is so close, so nice and they provide ample shuttle service to and from the casino.
It's very easy to find, being right off of route 395, and upon entering, we were given our room quickly and we made a reservation for the shuttle that night. The shuttle seems to run 20 minutes after the hour only slowing down between the hours of 1:20 A.M. and 7 or 8 A.M. The desk staff was very helpful explaining how this worked and where to find the shuttle once we got to the casino.
The room we were given was the first room right off the lobby and it was of a very high quality. It was huge with high ceilings and ample room to move about. The beds were comfortable and the linens were very, very nice. The TV got a decent number of channels and the bathroom was clean and modern, with a good shower head and good water pressure. The only odd thing was that there was a good-sized deck off of the room and yet, there were no chairs on it. I would have liked to have sat out there. This was however, the 3rd week of April and perhaps they don't put out the deck furniture until it gets warmer, but I think if this is the practice, then the furniture should be out there by 4/1.
Overall, we had a quality stay and unless Mohegan greatly reduces their room prices, this is where I will stay when I visit the area.

This was the second time I've stayed at this hotel. I checked in and had an envelope waiting for me stating I was the "Guest of the Day." This entitled me to two complimentary breakfasts in the hotel restaurant. The two ladies at the front desk were extremely warm and friendly.
My room was exceedingly warm and humid when I got in. I cranked the AC on but it did not seem to be working very well. It took a very long time for the room to cool off.
The room smelled a little funky - like the smell of cigarette smoke had been masked by something. The shower smelled a little funky and the caulking in the shower was stained with mold and mildew.
I also hate their pillows - they have no substance. You can stack five of them up and they flatten down to nothing.
Breakfast was the only decent part of the hotel. I was supposed to stay for two days - but I finished up early - I checked out at 2:00 pm - they could have charged me for the second day if they wanted to - but they did not.
