Lots of great things about this hotel:

1.  WiFi is free.
2.  Gym use is free/24 hours
3.  Parking is free.
4.  Even a bottle of water placed in the room is free.
5.  Service is great - except for the crazy/weird security guard walking around on the night shift...not going into details here, but avoid that guy.
6.  Great location - right w/in walking distance to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Starbucks, lots of shopping across the street.

We got this on http://Priceline.com's "Name Your Own Price" application for $77/night...a GREAT deal, given that everything is complimentary.

Definitely recommended.  4 stars vs. 5 because of the extremely rude security guard employee.

Your view of this hotel depends a lot on what you're looking for.  It's right in the middle of a massive shopping center (Starbucks, Jamba Juice, movie theaters, Safeway), which is awesome if you're looking for a film and a smoothie, but not so much if you're looking for scenery.  It's right by LAX (a $17 cab ride), but not terribly close to the beach.  There IS a running trail nearby (plus) but to get to it you have to avoid getting hit by cars as you illegally cross Lincoln Ave, and then wander back into an alleyway between a condo complex and a Ralph's (minus).

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful (plus) but the rooms were a bit dingy and outdated (minus).  There's a fitness room (plus) but it's pretty small - two treadmills and a few ellipticals leaves more or less no floor space (minus).

Overall, fine for an overnight business trip, but not a place I'd go for a vacation anytime soon.

This is the second Courtyard by Marriott I have stayed in this spring and it was pretty okay.  The last one was a little bit cooler and modern in terms of the room but this one was especially awesome because when I booked my room on Priceline and switched to a king size bed, they initially put me in a room that wasn't cleaned.   That would be a bummer but the Manager decided to give us free vouchers for the buffet in the morning for the inconvenience.

It was excellent.  There was an omelette chef who was skilled and had a spread of hot sauces, which my bf liked.  Also there was a nice buffet of fruit and such.  It was a nice stay.  And I got a pretty good price.

It must be mentioned that it's one of the few places with free parking, so I lucked out.

Free parking, free wifi, friendly staff, in the middle of a convenient shopping area, right next to the Marina Freeway.

The building wasn't the newest in the world but all of the other components more than made up for that.  Stayed here for half of my one-week stay this time but I surely wouldn't hesitate to spend my entire stay in LA at this hotel next time...

Hmmmm... I was not quite happy when our HQ booked us in this location.  I expected a Marriott's by Venice Beach.

From a hood perspective it's a one star as this old structure rests in a corner by some industrial shopping mall area.

From the inside, good service, fluffly pillows, nice upgraded bathroom fixtures with shower heads that have similar mounted structure as a moveable flat screen video or monitor.

But... it's 2 miles away from Venice Beach ... very inconvenient from a runner's standpoint.

I'm staying for business, is it convenient for customer onsites?  Hmm, not really.

But a three-deserving-star for Room Dining service and shower head feature.

For being centrally located (literally) in the Marina marketplace, this is a great deal. Rooms were well kept and parking is ample. 100 foot walk to Panini for some coffee or the movie theaters. I stay here when my friends place is packed in Santa Monica or when Im just too tired to drive back to Palm Desert. Great deal @ $179 in compared to hotels charging $120+ and its in a great neighborhood. Highly recommended. Theres also a market, and lots of good eats all within the courtyard so theres really no need to order room service unless you just want to be pampered.
Good security and the lobby is small, but the rooms are nice and fairly decent in size.

Great place to park visiting relatives.  They're always happy that it's clean, comfortable and has so much to walk to.  The only bummer is that there's no room service, but with a multitude of restaurants in the plaza, that's easily forgiven.  The location is good, but it is like being in a gigantic parking lot, but that's most of LA.

Wow, where the hell is my room?  After getting off the elevator, I kept walking and walking and walking.  Man, there are a lot of rooms here.  No wonder the parking lot is so big. Finally!

Huh.  There's some ugly paisley pseudo-bedspread on the beds.  We threw them off immediately.

Oh, we have a balcony!  I had the great view of the...parking lot.  But look at those lovely hibiscus bushes below.  Ahhh.

The beds were comfy.  The shower head was weird but not troublesome.  I appreciated the fact we had a message from the front desk wishing us a good stay.

Not a bad price for the area.  And bonus points that I could do some shopping at DSW next door and stores across the street.  Plus, there are lots of movie theatres in case you get bored.

I've stayed here all but one time I've visited the LA area.  It's close to all of the places I frequent when I come down from SF.

The rooms are good, the beds are very comfy as are the pillows and they've got free internet!  What's not to love about that?  At the Marriott Hotel in Marina del Rey, internet is not free (at least it wasn't the last time I stayed there).

For a mid-range property, this suits me fine.  Only downside, no room service and a very limited selection from the bar/lounge area.

My family had some very unpleasant business in Santa Monica; this was not a vacation.  Throughout our 3-night stay, the front desk staff, as well as the restaurant employees, were very friendly, helpful, and attentive.  Over-the-top nice.   We checked out Monday morning and left our bags at the front desk.  We returned at 12:30 p.m. to get our luggage; by the time we got there, my daughter had developed a severe migraine headache.  A front desk employee checked with housecleaning and determined that one of our rooms had not yet been cleaned.  They allowed my daughter to take a nap in that room until her migraine subsided even though we had already checked out hours earlier.   I would stay here again even though  it's a little out of the way because I believe such wonderful customer service should be rewarded with customer loyalty.
